Xiao, as an adeptus, couldn’t really get drunk, especially not off of mortal beverages, so rather than being able to ignore the obnoxious humans, he stayed to keep an eye on you. And he was happy he did.
Influenced by Itto and Beidou, you were soon drunk off your feet and nearly incoherent. Somehow, the only sentence that was decipherable had to be that sentence. Even with your hazy and disoriented gaze, you could see the hurt that flashed across hie face.
Still, he didn’t release you from his firm, but gentle grip. You sagged against him, your steps and your thoughts starting to slur but he never said a word. In a burst of wind, the two of you disappeared.

Light burned your eyes from behind your lids, effectively cutting through the layers of sleep. Almost as if that wasn’t enough, a splitting headache throbbed sharply behind your eyes.
Groaning, you turned over, a familiar figure catching your eye. Sat in your windowsill was Xiao. His eyes were shut, but you could tell he wasn’t asleep.
“Good morning.” Despite the dry greeting, you returned the sentiment with a weak smile. “Morning, Xiao. Sorry I got a bit carried away last night…”
His piercing sunset gaze caught you by surprise. “That is not the issue. We will discuss that after you eat and take a painkiller.” Then he hopped down from his perch and stalked out of the room, leaving you to your own confusion.
It felt like a cold hand was gripping your heart. You don’t remember much from last night, which scared you all the more. Had you said something or maybe even done something wrong? All you knew was that you didn’t want the suspense.
The moment Xiao walked back in the room, you swung your legs over the edge of the bed. “Xiao, I don’t want to just sit here and pretend you aren’t upset… did something happen?”
It was quiet, too quiet, as he handed you a bowl of cereal and some medicine and that only made you more nervous. But then he was sitting down, facing you. “You must not recall, but last night you said something… you said, ‘You don’t have to help me. I can walk, I know you don’t like touch’.”
Your hands flew to cover your mouth at his-no, your words. “Xiao, I didn’t mean-“
“I understand that I am… difficult to be around sometimes,” He interrupted, choosing to ignore you protests, “but surely, surely you know that you are different, beloved? If I didn’t want to be there for you, I wouldn’t have.”
You felt your eyes sting with tears at the forced calmness in his voice. “No, I know, it’s just I’d hate to cross your boundaries and I know you didn’t exactly want to go there anyway, and I didn’t want to be any more of a burden then-“
“You are never a burden,” Xiao countered firmly. “Never. If something is ever… too much… I would let you know, but please, never think that your touch bothers me.” Taking his words to heart, you all but jumped into his arms.
“I’m sorry, Xiao, I didn’t mean to insinuate anything like that. I love you, so much.” A quiet sigh left his lips as he buried his face into your chest. You could almost feel the relief emanating from him.
“And I you, beloved, please don’t ever doubt that.”
Getting the Raiden Shogun’s gnosis had been no short or easy affair, in fact it had been long and arduous, even costing the Fatui when of their own. Because of this, the win was even more grand and hard earned. So, of course, Childe and Dottore threw a huge party. In all honesty, however, it was more of an excuse to get black out drunk than to celebrate the Tsaritsa’s victory.
Scaramouche had warned you of this and had made it very clear that he wanted no part of anything set up by Childe or Dottore, especially when they were both involved. Still, the promise of being able to let loose and finally clear your head was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.
But because Scaramouche, as much as you hated to admit it, could never be wrong, not even two hours in Childe had started a massive fight that seemed to involve everyone around you. After two hours of drinking, your senses and reaction time were delayed enough to the point of being stuck in place as chaos surrounded you.
However, a chair flying dangerously close to your head seemed to be what you needed to wake up from your daze. Stumbling and ducking, you made it out the door and away from the mess. But, now you had to walk back home.

When Scaramouche made a quip about you being home so soon, he hadn’t expected your grimace and those words. Even though he liked to tease you, the idea of you thinking that was intentionally trying to hurt you was horrifying to imagine.
It didn’t show on his face, as he deemed insecurity as an emotion meant to be hidden. He watched, stunned silent as you trudged quietly to the bathroom, waiting for you to glance back at him. You didn’t.
Scaramouche wasn’t in bed when you woke up. In fact, your whole apartment seemed all too quiet. Usually classical music coupled with annoyed muttering drifted softly throughout your home as your lover worked, but there was none of that.
Confused, you made your way to the living room, the sight that greeted you catching you off guard. Scaramouche lay on the couch, sleep underneath a blanket.
Had he felt uncomfortable due to your intoxication and decided to sleep away from you? It was it for a worse reason? Or maybe you were just overthinking it…
Deciding against waking him up, you moved to the kitchen to make breakfast. First, you grabbed some painkillers and chugged down a water bottle before opening a cabinet.
“(Y/N)?” You spun around, catching sight or Scara already up. “Morning, love. How come you slept on the couch?” The Harbinger stood, but turned from you. “No reason. I accidentally fell asleep.”
Your nose scrunched at the obvious lie. “But you brought the pillow and throw blanket from our room…” You pointed out. He sighed as he approached you and ran a hand down his face.
“Look, you said some stuff last night. It’s not a big deal so don’t make a fuss,” He demanded. Despite his words, you automatically began to get nervous. “Was it bad? I want to apologize, but I need to know what for,” You coaxed.
He stared back at you for a moment, expression unwaveringly blank. Unease stirred within you and just as you were about to plead with him again, he spoke.
“You insinuated that I would be ‘mean’ because you didn’t enjoy the party. I know that I enjoy teasing you, but… do I… take it too far?” He questioned lowly. You winced at his question. There were some days that you wished he’d take it a bit easier with his words, but you had a tough skin the majority of the time.
“I didn’t mean to make you think that you’re cruel, it’s just, I didn’t want you to be all ‘I told you so’ or something. I shouldn’t have phrased it like that,” You surmised holding your hand out to him.
Still frowning, but looking a little less hurt, he placed his hand in yours. “Well, just… tell me if it gets too much. Preferably not when drunk,” He mumbled, looking away as he squeezed your hand.
Grinning, you pressed a small kiss to the back of his hand. “Love you, Scara.” His once pale cheeks were now colored a pretty shade of pink at your words. “I guess I love you too. Or whatever.”
You couldn’t help but laughed as you wrapped your stubborn lover in a hug that, despite his grumbled protests, he returned just as eagerly.
No, but imagine the Harbingers with an isekai-d villain AU darling who just h a t e s the fatui.
