I’m Angela, an author and illustrator who likes to do a bit of everything, including books, comics, and editorial. I’m the creator of LU AND REN’S GUIDE TO GEOZOOLOGY, a graphic novel about a girl traveling across a landscape made of giant animals (see above) in search of her missing grandmother.

Lu and Ren's Guide to Geozoology turns one year old today!
Feast your eyes on this FULLY ANIMATED TRAILER my very dear and very talented friends Mithra and MJ banded together to create. Please share it far and wide so that everyone can see all the hard work my friends put into it!
I've lost count of how many times I've watched this. I still feel chills every time. How did I just happen to come across such mind-blowingly gifted and dedicated people in my life??
It's hard to believe my debut graphic novel's been out the world for a year. To be honest, it's kind of been a blur! I've had the great fortunes of having my friends and community turn out for my book launch; of having book clubs read and love my book; of receiving a Golden Kite honor; and of having my book recognized by libraries and schools, including most recently the the 2026-2027 South Dakota Children's Book Awards. And that's a non-exhaustive list!
Thank you to everyone who’s cheered me on, and thank you for your continued support!

I don't think I ever posted this linocut print I made a couple years ago. I was overly ambitious for my first reduction linocut, but it turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself. No big disasters, just a few misprints along the way.
Mock book cover of a nonexistent book. One of the fun things about making a fake book cover is that it neatly solves the problem of where to put my name on the illustration.
I wanted to try coloring with gradient maps with this one, so I rendered it in grayscale first. It definitely streamlines the coloring process and makes the decision-making easier when you can focus separately on the values and colors.
Equus zephyrus, more commonly known as the draft horse, frequently graces the skies above the Luvial Flats. Equus zephyrus herds are known for kicking up storms, leaving a thick blanket of nimbostratus clouds in their wake.
Though individual Equus zephyrus herds have well-defined ranges, their impulsive nature makes it nearly impossible to predict their movements. A sunny day in Equus zephyrus territory can suddenly and unexpectedly turn into an overcast one, or even a downpour.

Hello! I was wondering if you would mind telling me what yarn/other material you used for the moss on your super cute crocheted baby caviolith? I have a crochet project in mind that would involve moss and I’ve been trying to figure out what would be best to use. What you used does an amazing moss impression! If you don’t feel like sharing I totally understand. Thank you!
I use short eyelash yarn! Specifically this kind from Ice Yarns or this one, which is a little fluffier. I'm sure any other brand will do, as long as it has a similar texture. I crochet in the round, varying my stitches and increasing and decreasing at will to get an irregular shape, and the sew it onto the top of the caviolith.
Third and last of the comics about the ocean I made with NPR this summer! One of the best things about working on this series was learning about the science and the scientists studying the ocean, such as Dawn Wright and her team's work on mapping the ocean floor.
Comic #1: The Ocean Zones
Comic #2: The Ocean's Menagerie
Comic #3: Mapping the Ocean Floor (this one!)
