Chickenraptorbaby came home two weeks ago. So so far every minute of my days that I'm not tending to her endless amount of needs I am sleeping. So far what we learned about her is shes a very smart baby who loves baby hair metal.

Yo. For real. Rollins isnât cool. I sat through a talk where he essentially said if a 16 year old sends a guy naked pictures she is going to end up raped and in garbage bags along the highway. He said when she tried to send him pictures that his response was ârespect yourself more than that. If you donât these awful things will happenâ and he used rape and murder as examples of the awful things.
I wrote him and said rape isnât a punishment women get doled onto them by men for not respecting themselves. I told him I sat in a room full of boys and listened to him take the active participation of men out of the equation for why rape happens. I told him he basically absolved all those men of responsibility for rape IF that woman had made a critical error like sending naked pictures. I explained that I was raped in my own bed, by someone I trusted, while I was asleep no less, and that it surely wasnât because I have texted a picture of my breasts to someone in my lifetime. It was because the man in my bed decided to have sex with me, and didnât feel it was important to ask me if I was interested in itâŠ
I pointed out that my rapist is a huge fan of Henry.
My brother came home after that talk and threw every Rollins book and poster he had in the garbage. I put mine outside marked âfree.â
When Henry responded, I thought it was a joke. His first word was âno.â He then told me that I was wrong, that I didnât know what I was talking about. He hadnât said anything incorrect and that I should check myself. He said that I was too angry. He told me to try being calm and polite if I wanted people to listen to what I had to say. He told me my letter was painfully long to read.
Rollins. MR ANGRY himself, told me to be less angry about being raped. He told me as a rape survivor and a woman that I didnât know what I was talking about, but he did. The man who has talked AT ME and a crowd of people for 3 hours straight on 6 different occasions told me to say less.
We exchanged 12 emails. I got to RE READ my emails when he regurgitated them in his widely shared statement about stubenville, which he sent me personally, 3 months after he had sent me the last email in our exchange. Like âsee, I stand up for rape victims.â But all he learned was the language to seem like he cared, and he learned it from me.
So yeah, when I see him on my dash yelling about how his frozen yoghurt isnât frozen, so intensively that the veins in his throat stand out, I remember that he told me if I wanted to tell him to not blame victims I needed to be sweeter. I remember that he told me I was too angry.
Whenever I disappear for an excessively long time it's almost always for some health bs. This is chickenraptorbaby. She came super fucking early -about two weeks ago- when she wasn't supposed to be here until July. My body decided to randomly develop something called preeclampsia so she had to come out immediately. Then I had to stay at the hospital for a week because my health is still wonky. I'm finally home but since chickenraptorbaby was so early shes still in the NICU for now and we go to visit her every day. So it's been pretty hectic lately.

Does giving up a baby for adoption erase all the extra personal expenses shelled out over the course of a pregnancy? Does it magically restore any pay or chance at advancement that you might have lost? Does the act of adoption fully return your body to its pre-pregnancy, uninjured state, such that you donât need time off work to recover afterward? Most girls are relentlessly told that we will be treated how we demand to be treated. If we want respect, we must respect ourselves. This does three things. Firstly, it gets men off the hook for being held accountable for how they treat women. And secondly, it makes women feel that the mistreatment and sometimes outright violence they face due to their gender is primarily their fault. And thirdly, it positions women to be unable to speak out against sexism because we are made to believe any sexism we experience would not have happened if we had done something differently. I cannot demand a man to respect me. No more than I can demand that anybody do anything. I can ask men to be nice to me. But chances are if I even have to ask he does not care to be nice. I can express displeasure when Iâm not being respected. But that doesnât solve the issue that I was disrespected in the first place. I can choose to not deal with a man once he proves to be disrespectful and/or sexist. But even that does not solve the initial problem of the fact that I had to experience being disrespected in the first place. As a young girl, I wish that instead of being told that I needed to demand respect from men that I had been told that when I am not respected by men that itâs his fault and not mine. But that would require that we quit having numerous arbitrary standards for what it means to be a ârespectableâ woman. It would mean that I am not judged as deserving violence based on how I speak, what I wear, what I do, and who I am.
