Radio silence between them had been the standard since that day, a shell-shocked, in-denial Darcy unable to process information that was imperative to who Dante was. Inhuman. Nuhuman. Whatever - the fact that that tidbit of information had remained somehow obscured from Darcy, the fact that she’d found him (with the reluctant help of the older Dante) battered and beaten, with one brow swollen - that this was his future, on repeat, over and over and over again until
Until when? Forever?
She hadn’t known how to cope. How to deal. And so maybe she had transferred her feelings to the older man living under her roof (the man Dante would someday be), the man who, at the moment, was safe, non-threatening and non-threatened.
Darcy had meant to end the silence between them, but spotting him between the door and it’s jam had stirred something to cover the guilt and the embarrassment and the pain.
“Hey, Dante. Um…can I kiss you?”
...Well. Of all the openers Dante imagined Darcy would lead with after two weeks without contact, this definitely wasn’t in the top five. The top ten, maybe, but even that was tenuous. His eyebrow quirks, lifting a bit as if wondering if this might be some sort of prank.
“Yeah? Sure. You can do that.”
He leans against the doorframe, pushing it open fully so that she could see that the apartment was absent, at least temporarily, of new mothers and newborns.
“You might want to come inside, first, so we’re not making out in the hallway.”
//hey i hope you don't mind me asking but I'm kinda wanting to read more about the Inhumans and Dante seems like such a likable character. Any titles for him/any other inhumans you'd recommend?
Well, I’m glad your exposure to him from me has left a good impression!
So far, Dante has only really appeared in Inhuman, which is a book that began in 2014 and is written by Charles Soule(who you might recognize from his wonderful She-Hulk run) and drawn originally by Joe Madrueira. It chronicles the fallout of Black Bolt creating and detonating the Terrigen Bomb and spreading its mists across the planet, the same mists which gave Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, her powers. Inhuman has been collected into three trade paperbacks:
Inhuman Vol 1: Genesis, which collects the first six issues and introduces Dante as well as many other NuHumans
Inhuman Vol 2: Axis, which Amazon says collects 7-12 (though my copy only has 7-11) and crosses over for a few issues with the Axis event that turned a bunch of good guys good and bad guys bad and does little to affect the plot beyond making Medusa her own worst enemy and also think that wearing a leather bodysuit is a good idea
and Inhuman Vol 3: Lineage, which has 12-14 as well as the Inhuman Annual, which is great. I’ve not got that one physically but I have managed to cobble it together digitally, and it’s quite the ride.
Inhuman is a great title, it’s a large cast beyond just Dante and there’s tons of guest stars like Cap and Thor as well as a Ms. Marvel cameo in the first volume and team-up in Inhuman Annual. I definitely recommend it, especially since Marvel’s pushing the Inhumans so hard that you might as well be versed in what’s going on.
Dante also appeared in Inhuman Error, which was a three issue arc that took place across Amazing Spider Man Special #1, Inhuman Special #1, and All New Captain America Special #1. I’ve only managed to track down the middle one so far, but I’m working on it.
Moving forward, there’s rumor that Dante will be on Medusa’s team in Uncanny Inhumans, but there hasn’t been a whole lot of information about it, probably because he’s just one character in an ensemble book, as compelling as his story is.
As for notable Inhuman-based stories from the past, I’d say the person to ask is inhxmancrystal, who’s my go-to resource for Inhuman questions and is far more versed in their history than I am.
Hopefully this helps!

Maybe she should have called first.
Maybe she should have texted.
Maybe she should have called and texted two weeks ago and maybe she should have made more of an effort instead of hiding away, terrified and uncomfortable with what the future meant to them.
But now Darcy’s banging on Dante’s door, anxiety spilling acid in her gut.
It’s been... a rough couple of weeks, all told. The things the Purifiers had done to him in the brief time he’d been their captive had diminished his powers greatly, and now every time he got in a fight he had to ration his powers or else risk puffing out like a candle. His healing factor had slowed down, too, so that he was still smarting from the bruised ribs Gorgon had left him with at their last training session.
Dante limps gingerly over to the door, not sore but still tender, and undoes the lock. He pokes his head out, squinting a little at how bright the lights outside were compared to his apartment’s.
“Darcy?”
I kind of half-assed this near the end and should never be allowed to draw cars, guns, or fire, but the bodies look pretty good at least.
Inspired, obviously, by the ongoing thread I’ve got with notcaptainbritain, who is an absolute joy to write with. Hopefully it does it justice.
not feeling my threads and my replacement table pen came in today so i thought i’d draw a scene out of an ongoing thread
i think i might have messed up the costume a bit, though
I love love love this amazing variant cover!
This amazing cover is by Ryan Sook
It is another one in the Inhumans 50th Anniversary Series and will be a variant for Amazing Spider-man #1.
i think part of why i’m so down on this blog right now comes a lot from the fact that when i made it I had a conscious desire to stay away from shipping too much and just have platonic interactions and now i’ve devolved into a shipping blog and that’s not really what I want to do.
maybe i’ll roll back to like, two or three ships tops and lock it there so I can focus on the stuff that made me want to make a blog in the first place.
maybe i should just delete i’m obviously not doing anything positive with this blog’s existence
