I hate how stupid rich people believe they're better than everyone else just because they've been to a fancy university.
One of my classmates got her bachelor degree from a fancy university and can't even realise the differences between two major themes in two different creative works.
She said that the same theme in the play "Romeo and Juliet" is in the poem " Luceafărul ".
Now let's fucking see...
Romeo and Juliet : shared love between Romeo and Juliet but the families are at war ; the main tragedy comes from the fact that Romeo wasn't able to receive the message regarding the fact that Juliet wasn't truly dead and Romeo and Juliet committed suicide -> at least they could be together in the afterlife since the love they shared was so profound and mutual they couldn't see themselves be with anyone else and the pain was unbearable ; their families realise the consequences their actions had so we also have a moral for characters outside the main characters and we have multiple characters and perspectives.
Luceafărul: Luceafărul has a profound love for Cătălina but Cătălina is only fascinated by him ; Luceafărul is immortal while Cătălina is mortal ; Cătălina is asked by Luceafărul to join him but she refuses and also admits that despite she can understand the way he speaks she can't understand what's his saying therefore we see the simplicity of being human; Cătălina is a dreamer but because of the lack of her depth ( we have the antithesis intelligent vs simple . She's not stupid but she's naive and young) and naïve nature she easily believes Cătălin's words and doesn't know if she should trust Luceafărul anymore during the time he's away from her.Meanwhile Luceafărul wants to give up his immortal powers for at least "an hour of love" with her...until he finds out how easily she calls for him but while she's in "the arms of another (Cătălin)" then he decides to dismiss her request and remain cold and immortal in his world.
Juliet is not naive
Romeo and Juliet are both very young and mortal
No sacrifice to be together in the current life or in the afterlife (Luceafărul and Cătalina) because in the end Luceafărul gave up on trying to sacrifice his immortal powers
No crazy cosmic theme between Romeo and Juliet
No antitheses between Romeo and Juliet ( on the vast difference level like immortal and mortal)
No incredibile deep mutual love between Luceafărul and Cătălina like in Romeo and Juliet
My professor was so embarrassed when she heard her that she changed the subject entirely and I didn't even have the occasion to fucking correct her.
She also said that her professor used to say that "If you didn't read Ulysses then you wasted your life" but she wasn't even fucking able to tell one thing about it other than her fancy professor words and laugh.
Fucking annoying
