giving simon wormhole-opening powers so grace can send an instant probe once they're on erid and inflict more psychic damage on the og petrova task force
straight up don't remember what post this was on my bad i just found it in my screenshots folder and became flabbergasted again. Getting word that i'm an unprecedented temporal anomaly
Person who grew up in a conservative bubble and only began glimpsing the real world in 2015 but thinks that's reflective of a change in everyone except themselves voice:
i think i don't really vibe with most other fans of my favorite male characters is because they usually depict them too much of a man, and i am not interested in men, i am interested in The Character. and i am not saying that they should depict them as women, or nonbinary, or should depict them as feminine, no, not at all. but there's like, you know, you can depict a male character as The Character, and you can depict them as The Man. do you get me? like, i go to the fandom looking for art and fics, and it's just, regardless of his actual characterization, it's all just fantasizing about some kind of an abstract dominant patriarch, wearing my favorite character's face. it may be the most totally-wouldnt-have-normal-relationships (and sometimes even would-literally-abuse-you) kind of guy, and you join a dedicated space for his fans, and all they talk about is how they want to marry and start a tradcore 50s style nuclear family with him. it can be a guy who's arrogance and attempts of domination are explicitly shown to be a facade that hide the fact that he's actually kind of a massive pathetic wet loser, and you go to his fics, and they're all depicting him as a caricaturish daddy dom. at this point it's like, do you even like the character at all, or do you just like The Man, and project this man onto whatever character you find visually attractive? and these people kind of, really really poison actual discussion of the character, who is kind of a fucked up evil person (i only like *those* types, so im talking about them) because they see analysis of the actual character as an attack on their fantasized daddy dom husband, who is actually isn't The Character at all, and is simply a face of the day for The Man
ok I know everyone’s considered Ryland grace wearing an “I put the ace in space” t shirt but. have we considered the infinitely funnier option of putting this shirt on eva stratt
I had to draw this
You know when you open a hot oven, and the billow of heated air brushes through your hair and leaves your face feeling a little crisp?
Anyway, it was a little breezy outside,
Rereading As They Learn to See (as one does when ur in an Encanto mood and it's ur fav Bruno fic) and I wonder about how it went with Rats leading Julieta to the pit. Did she understand that they were leading her? Did she see the crumbs, pressed insistently against Bruno's lips, and realize the intelligence and care these rats had, all at use for her years lost brother???
Like. I get that it's a magic house but how quickly would one think "time to follow rats" yknow
💖💖💖 Fav Bruno fic :D Thank you!!!
When the crumbs didn't work, I think some of the rats went to find more food, so there were a few running around Casita and searching through the kitchen.
On Julieta's end, the instant she was close to Casita, Casita did the house equivalent of frantically waving and beckoning her over. Concerning. The children were all supposed to be at school, so she thought maybe Agustín was hurt.
Then she got inside and
Casita pretty much flung her upstairs
There was a hole in the wall?? The space behind it was, like the bedrooms, much larger than it should have been
There were extremely upset rats both inside and outside the wall. (I think Julieta would have seen them a few times over the years and wondered if they were Bruno's pets, left behind with the rest of his family, or those rats' descendants. She sometimes left food out for them to find, and only mentioned them to Agustín. She didn't want to bring up painful memories for anyone else, or risk someone treating them like pests)
The rats recognized her, and Julieta smelled like the food she'd been cooking and giving out all morning. She had one climbing her skirt and investigating her pockets the moment she was in jumping distance
Casita continued to Fully Freak Out and urge her to climb through the hole in the wall. She did, expecting Casita to continue dragging her to where she was needed. Instead, the space within the walls was still and silent, except for the rats, who were very much neither
This would have happened in the span of maybe two minutes, so Julieta's day went from completely normal to horror movie scene real fast. I don't think she realized that the rats climbing her were searching for food, because that was alarming, but the rest of the situation was so ominous that she didn't have space to think or worry about it as long as they weren't biting her. (Later, I think she might have guessed they were seeking comfort, especially after seeing them clinging to Bruno). She did understand that the rats running between her and further down the hall were trying to lead her somewhere.
She didn't see the crumbs they had tried to feed him, and only picked up on some of their thought processes, but she saw the love

Last song listened to: Not My Idea by Garbage
Favorite color: Gray :3
Currently watching: I just started Witch Hat Atelier (literally just the first episode), and it is as pretty as I was promised. Before that was Spy x Family, which is delightful
Currently reading: This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. It's a novella and should be a short read, but so far the writing is more aesthetic than plot, so I keep getting distracted by other things and walking away
Current obsession: Native wildlife gardening, somehow. I don't know how I got here. I laugh at jokes about solidago now. I pointed out a plant a friend and I were walking past and said, "See that spiky moss? That's actually a fern :)" which I only knew bc of hours of trawling through plant databases. Truly we cannot pick our hyperfixations
Currently working on: I wish I could say a fic 😭 Working my way up Maslow's Hierarchy
Last web search: "I saw the tv glow." Someone mentioned it being really impactful on trans people. I read the Wikipedia synopsis. I determined that I am not at this time prepared to watch it, haha

When you meet Edward Elric he gives off the impression that he's the short-tempered hot-headed "violence is the answer to all life's questions" kind of protagonist, and it's in fact incredible character craft that he's actually the character who ends the series with a negative-3 kill count.
people killed: 0
direct orders of "you really really need to kill this guy" ignored: 1
ongoing murders being committed by Ed's own friends/colleagues that Ed got in the way of to specifically stop that murder from happening: 2
God's worst soldier Edward Elric. Showed up as the youngest member of the Amestrian army, took millions of dollars from them, never followed a single order, helped dismantle their fascist regime, left with a lower kill count than he arrived with, then fucked off to go be a house-husband. Character of all time.

See the thing about Stratt putting all media ever in the Hail Mary is that it isn’t just for lolz or to keep the crew entertained, it always struck me as something deeply sad. Because even if all the crew survived, there was no way they could consume all possible media ever, language barriers alone would present a problem. And even then, they had a job to do and focus on first (which could have theoretically taken decades of work to figure out) so they wouldn’t have much use for The Great Gatsby or a week’s worth of poorly written amateur Guatemalan experimental opera. Let us remember that Stratt is practical and true utilitarian Instead, I think it was another part of the Hail Mary. If the scientists failed, if the Earth died, then what? Everything would have been completely lost. Art, music, film, history. Destroyed. Without a single living soul to remember it by. It would be as if all of humanity had never existed.
But if it survived? If other alien civilizations discovered traces of humanity? Then the memory of mankind could live on and be remembered. What better way to do that than to send everything (literally everything, the art, the music, the science, the history) out as far as humanly possible so that it might connect with someone else in the universe? It would be a long shot, a Hail Mary, but it was the best chance that humanity had to be remembered
He started writing in blue, remembered Carl, wrote Carl's name in red and IMMEDIATELY returned to "Single" to add a question mark lmao.
He's so fucking valid for that, if I lost my memory and remembered Carl I too would hope he's my man.
it's usually closer, on your chest
