I hope that you do not mind my asking for any updates on the status of this story? I just wanted to see if it was being dropped or not I have no intention of pressuring you! Thank you so much for this wonderful story!

I suppose in many ways you can consider this story dead / on indefinite hiatus. I have no intention of giving it up forever, I honestly do want to finish Azrynne’s story one day as she, as a character, is very near and dear to my heart, and I have poured hours upon hours of thought and love and effort into her characterisation and overall story. 

Right now though, in addition to being very busy with life in general, I’ve basically been suffering from a year long bout of writer’s block and I’m unsatisfied with both the current state of the newest chapter as well as the quality of the older chapters. I’d like to tackle a brief rewrite of older chapters while also continuing the main story, but I can’t really guarantee any kind of timeline for the future of the story.

If you have enjoyed and supported River of Time for this long, I genuinely and truly thank you from the bottom of my heart! It would mean a lot to me to see your continued support, even just by remaining subscribed to the story. It will be updated and finished one day. I just can’t say when. The story is on hold, but it’s not discontinued / dropped.

I’d also like to apologise for the incredibly unfortunate cliffhanger I’ve left you all on for nearly two years. Hopefully we’ll see it through soon, though.

The World Around Us - A Fire Emblem Fates Culture Zine

Hi everyone, I’m officially launching applications for my new Fire Emblem Fates zine!

The goal of this zine is to explore the characters of Fire Emblem Fates and the countries and cultures represented within the game. This ranges from the very European inspired Nohr, to the Japanese inspired Hoshido, the French inspired Cheve, and more. Because Fire Emblem Fates also touches relatively little on some aspects of these countries (for a variety or reasons) we also accept headcanons or speculations on cultures!

Examples of the sorts of things you may find in this zine:

Scarlet helping Corrin, Elise, and Sakura make Chevois inspired trinkets

Izana introducing Keaton, Kaden, Azama, and Arthur to the Izumo hot springs

Oboro tailoring kimonos and yukatas for Soleil, Sophie, and Forrest

and a lot more - whatever you can come up with that fits the theme!

Azrynne’s casual attire! She first adopts this in Foreign Markets and Sunlit Riverside. Unless she is otherwise specified to be in a dress or some other clothing, this is her default attire throughout the story. This is not armour - this is mostly worn around the garrison/barracks or the city, thus the bare shoulders and lack of leather armour.

Currently working on her first tier leather armour that she adopts in From Sickle to Sword and onwards for battle/marches.

Will you go more indepth regarding Lucina's time line? The game doesn't really talk about it. Would love getting some love for that time line.

I will most definitely be going very in depth into Lucina’s timeline. You can expect that I will cover the ‘current’ timeline and Lucina’s timeline - the DLC timeline we see in Future Past will NOT be covered, just so everyone knows. There may also be a surprise or two along the way ;)

Chapter Notes: From Coal to Diamonds

I recommend you read the chapter before the notes as there are spoilers within the notes.

In case you missed it, the dragon statue that Kinley makes for Chrom is symbolic, as the royal family is closely associated to Naga and thus Divine Dragons.

Because of their duties, Chrom and Emmeryn hardly get to see each other alone. All their time spent together is spent also in the company of other guards, knights, noblemen, etc.

In case you forgot, I mentioned in earlier chapters that Sumia and Chrom were engaged as children, but Emmeryn dissolved her engagement to the Plegian nobleman’s son (officially – because of the war, it was pretty much accepted that it wasn’t going to happen lol) and Chrom’s engagement as well.

Duchess Vermeulen vies for Sumia’s pairing with Chrom not only because Chrom is a royal catch (snickers), but also because Chrom and Sumia have studied together and been friends together since they were children. Even if he wasn’t prince, he’d be the match that made the most sense. Unless he was a slum kid or something. It’s not just a thing of grabbing for the highest political power (though it certainly doesn’t hurt that Chrom is Prince)

‘Panacea’ is a cure-all. In game, you can find Panaceas in the Tellius games, where they heal any status ailment.

The ‘heavenly seal’ is a reference to the Heaven Seal from the Elibe games. The Heaven seal is used to promote lords. In this setting, it’s a seal used to represent Naga, so is usually worn by the religious or religious figureheads.

The talisman is, obviously, a reference to the in game talisman which increases a unit’s resistance. Shout out to Chrom’s piss poor resistance growth, because he’s consistently the one unit that eats all my talismans. (Really, Chrom? 25%? Really?)

In previous artworks/commissions you may notice that Azrynne’s skin colour is much lighter than described in this chapter and shown in the above image. The change in her skin tone was made a year ago, but due to the hiatus I took a lot of people may be unaware. I’m currently going through previous chapters to make appropriate changes whenever her skin tone is mentioned.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind readers that while Azrynne is modelled after Robin and takes Robin’s place in the story, AZRYNNE IS NOT ROBIN. She does not have the same personality as Robin (of either gender). She does not make the same choices as Robin. She has a different history and plot from Robin. Azrynne is not Robin – their similarities end at the fact that she takes on Robin’s ‘role’ in the story.

It’s been a long time, everyone. A whole damn year. But it happened. I updated! I’m so sorry to keep you all waiting. I’m diving straight into the next chapter, which will be chapter one of an exciting new arc. Thanks everyone for sticking with me and I hope you enjoy this chapter.

I swear I'm still working on this fic and haven't abandoned it...I'm just terribly slow is all and I've rewritten the current chapter about 5 times :( I also plan to rewrite/fix up the first two chapters so...there's that to consider as well. I'm so sorry to any of my eager readers who are still waiting for an update! I cannot promise a release date, only that it is coming and hopefully soon.

hullo! i read your fanfiction river of time and absolutely just fell in love with it and i noticed you wrote in that stahl was the son of an apothecary. this was a detail i was previously unaware of until i had read the drama cd translations, does that mean you'll be incorporating the events of the drama cds in river of time? you don't have to answer this if you feel like it may give away too many spoilers ||

I only just got a notification for this ask, thought my xkit tag says this was sent 22 days ago? If thats the case...I'm so sorry for the late reply!

I myself have not listened to or read the scripts for the drama CDs, so unfortunately I will not be including details from there. However you can consider River of Time to be an AU of sorts because there are many tidbits and backstories that can be considered contradictory to 'canon', for example, Cordelia having a twin brother named Alistair. 

In the end River of Time is a personal project in which I hope to share my version of the Fire Emblem lore and my own personal headcanons, so I hope you all come to enjoy what I have planned for the story :)

Character Ages

In the spirit of keeping interest alive while the next chapter is being written, I’ve decided to release a few details and tidbits about River of Time that may differ from the base game. For example, character ages. Only a few ages are detailed, but some are just vague and left to the player to decide. In River of Time, the official ages for the characters (who have appeared/been mentioned thus far) are:

And finally Azrynne, whose true age is unknown. You can pin her approximate age to the early to mid twenties, however.

Someone on FF.net mentioned character ages, so I just wanted to remind everyone that for the purposes of the story, a lot of history and ages have been reworked in order to accommodate the more realistic tone River of Time is taking compared to the game. In addition to that, here are some more ages for other characters that have since been introduced:

And for those who are interested (though it will be revealed as the story unfolds), the surnames and house names of certain families have been added. Some are unnamed though for story purposes.

Both Donnel's father and uncle served as militia in the war between Ylisse and Plegia eighteen years ago. His mother is an innkeeper at the Farfort, and he is an only child.
