Hiten was raised by their former-Hindu mother and their white-Baptist step-father in a small town in the United States. They pretended for years to be the good religious boy their mother wanted them to be, hating all of it and doing their worst behind their backs. Instead of their drinking, smoking, stealing, and what not, getting the best of them, it was their interest in Hinduism that ensure their break from the family. They fought for years to get back in with their step-brother so they could see their little niece again. And then Cassie disappeared, and the first suspect anyone could think of was her delinquent pibling, who lived in the town’s trailer park and never went to church. For weeks they were harassed and followed, until living in the town almost became impossible, which is when they fled to Vancouver, hoping their past wouldn’t follow them there. 

PERSONALITY;

Hiten is unpredictable, they can be the kindest soul in existence, or be cold and heartless. All they really want is to be loved and valued, but they are constantly fighting for a place for themselves in the world. They’re needy for reason and goals, eager to create their own value by the amount of people they sleep with and the amount of people they can get to laugh at parties. They have moments of rage and hatred, when things haven’t been going their way for a long time, but all-in-all they have accepted the conclusion that most people won’t like them and that they’ll always be an outsider.

Takes all of five minutes if you really take your time.” Shrugging, Will offered a hand up to help them up from the curb. “Oh…thought you were fucking with me. Amnesia isn’t a half bad way to get out of telling the story that way, though. I’m off duty and my car’s just parked in that lot if you need a ride somewhere.”

Hiten grinned, forceful care was something they found rather... appreciated. After all, doctors who just gave you things and suggested you follow them weren't what they needed. Someone who called them a masochist if they didn't, that was the language they spoke in. "Five minutes?" they couldn't help it though, the nagging. Though in this case it was attention span. 

They accepted the hand, letting this very handsome person lift them up. "Oh, I am definitely fucking with you," they said with a wink. "And I will never say no to a ride." They wanted to make another joke about it, but worried they might go a bit too far.

The party in Eden never quite left her. She became a party girl in college and stayed that way after. So it was no surprise that she found herself at the club on a weekend night. Just the very act of getting tipsy, letting loose, and simply dancing was enough for Eden. It was exhilarating and a way to escape her day to day.

Eden was outside when she was approached, taking a breather from the inside. She wore the worst heels possible.

“You’re lucky,” Eden pulled a cigarette out from under dress strap. “I always carry two, just in case.” Eden handed them the cigarette, soon frowning. “No lighter though.”

Hiten laughed in amusement. "Well... it's a start, and very nice of you, but I feel like we should probably have all our bases covered before we appreciate a good smoke." They placed the cig in their mouth, looking around. Then moving about in their pockets trying to find one themselves, they usually had a few lighters on them, but those escaped them too often and too quickly. "They should have like... burners in the wall, that create a lil fire to light your cig, that would save us like... trash."

Tyler had seen so much over the years with his jobs. That he knew people had their own drama and feelings about the things around them.  He was always one to do all he could to help someone out. He maybe the one taking a call but when he passed it to another department he wasn’t one to let he go. He check in on it and help any way he could. 

It was weird, and Hiten didn’t seem to want to talk about anything. But Tyler was the type of person to still say hello and ask how the other was doing. “I like to shop small, family run places and stuff” he smiled as he looked around the cashier gave him a wave and Ty looked back at Hiten. “I hope you are doing well. I know it’s a bit weird but I had to say hello” he was going to give up and just move on since they didn’t seem to be into wanting to talk at all.

Hiten thought, forcing a smile. They should just say it, come out for it, admit that seeing Tyler was not... great. Though that would mean explaining everything else, or it could put them on the map. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer. It wasn't as if they hadn't lied their way into groups of people before, surely they could keep up the act with 'friends' or maybe if they continued to act like this, Tyler might think they weren't worth the effort. Though really, they worried that anything they said would have Tyler getting more interested, not less.

They shrugged. "They're usually more expensive too, so... I don't mind grabbing coffee there, but if you have to watch your money." Hiten attempted to drown their surprise in their coffee. The evening they met Hiten had found Tyler's straight-forward nature amusing, now they weren't sure how to handle it. "It's alright," they said, awkwardly. "I just wasn't expecting it."

Alice didn’t think she would have made their kid believe Santa was a real thing and she would have been honest about the gifts and advised them not to tell another child that Santa was fake because it was a story. She simply didn’t understand the entire point of the story and why it was meant to be something that was magical. But he did have a point and children were smarter than people gave them credit for. “I wonder how many children figure out that Santa is fake on their own and then pretend because they don’t want to break the news to their parents.” She laughed now because that seemed plausible and something she would have pulled had she grown up with the tale. 

“I believe we all have the anger and desire to hurt someone when we get emotional but you would’t want to figure out what makes them do it as opposed to others who refrain?” Maybe it was just her career and how she’d travelled the world speaking to people that she was fascinated by their mind and experiences too much to really find the same interest in the deceased.

“Lots of them, probably,” Hiten said in return, laughing as well. “I mean... if I were in that position, I would be very worried about my parents quitting on giving me gifts just because I figured it out.” Even though Christmas had been the worst time of the year in their opinion, especially growing up in a family where their mother never wanted them, and their step-father was slowly figuring out that there was little to save. They wondered if they ever had Christmas presents, or believed in Santa... they couldn’t remember. “It was easier pre-globalisation, that’s for sure.” 

Hiten shook their head. “Nope, I think they’re sick, that’s why they don’t get held back by morals,” they said. Their chest hurting for a moment at the thought of Cassie. Someone had taken their niece without second thought, not restricted by the idea of taking a child away from their family. People who could take a life were sick, people who were forced to usually ended up scarred. Hiten had spend too much of their life being seen as someone who would end up doing horrible things, they didn’t want to learn the recipe to it.

Harlow rolled his eyes at the other’s wiggle of the eyebrows. “’Course you were” He said, but his tone was light and his lips were still turned upwards. He waved the other off “Better to underestimate myself then overestimate; no? Means less chance of things blowing up in my face and all” He shrugged. “Anyway!” Harlow clapped his hands together and turned slightly to view the crowd “Where should we plant ourselves?”

Hiten grinned. “What? And miss out on all the disappointment you can cause? That’s boring, overestimating myself has led to some rather interesting things,” they said, wiggling their eyebrows once more, enjoying how Harlow seemed to not enjoy that. Sure, there were far too many moments where they had been overestimating themselves and got into a lot of trouble, and perhaps most of it could be directly linked to their over-confidence. But it was hard not to. Hiten adjusted their gaze back to the movie screen. Ah yes, that’s what they were here for. They grinned. “Follow me,” they said, starting to head into the crowd to find a good spot.

Hiten thought for a moment. “Yeah, no, that tracks, that definitely goes through my mind as well,” they concluded. If they saw a hot person, regardless of gender, being worshipped by other hot people, they had to have them. It didn’t even matter if someone was actually attractive, just the idea that other people WANTED them, was enough for Hiten to want them too. “Hmmmm, sounds like you need new ones,” Hiten concluded. They tried to not even think about their former friends anymore, if they’d ever been that. “Oh, easy.” Because while they had enough problems to go on, confidence wasn’t one. They struck a pose, making sure to turn to the camera with their best side. “Ready to help us get laid.”

It was a bit weird and awkward at the moment but Tyler was trying his best to get past it. That he didn’t know what would come of the two of them. Tyler didn’t really expect much of it. That they met and had fun and that was it, it happened people moved on. But he was good guy and was going check in on the other now that they ran into each other. Tyler had no idea of their issues with a cop, and what caused them. What happens when you get with someone you really didn’t know.

“How are you doing” he asked with a friendly smile as he looked around. “I like to come here too…” he liked to shop small. Even if he didnt have the job he did he would he liked to show that he cared for the people.  He didn’t want to make it all worse so he stood near by ready to go if the other wasn’t wanting to really talk.

Hiten was aware that nobody could see from a distance the trauma someone had experienced, so they didn’t think anyone would look at them and see how their trust in the system had been lost. The only person who knew was Sosh, she had been privy to what had happened before in the States, and she would remain, most likely, the only person to know the full story. Because while the information was out there on the internet, Hiten never thought they owed anyone an explanation. 

Hiten shrugged. They hated how Tyler attempted to be nice, he as a person didn’t deserve Hiten’s wrath and convulsion. But they didn’t have the ability to turn it off, it was powerful, constricting. “It’s an okay place, good coffee,” they said in return, quickly taking a sip.

         “   hi, wow,  you are very attractive.   a very appealing being, congrats.    i have a favor to ask from,    you know,     one hottie to another.  ”OF COURSE IN THE MIDST OF HER RAMBLING she had to build herself up a little too.     her phone in hand,  a pink furry case snuggled between fingers,   much to her mother’s dismay:    adiya had never been shy or filtered.      “  my  tinder’s been dryer than a nun’s fandango lately and i have theorized that it’s because i need pics with more hot people.  ”         surprisingly,   this isn’t a pick up line.  she’s being genuine.       “  i’ve run data on my shit and     evidently    taking photos with other    (   super hot people  )   shows  two things.   one,   i have friends.      two,   i have,  you know,  somewhat done a little bed boogying myself.  ”         and both are as true as she wants to make them.      “  so whaddya say ?      gonna help a girl get her end wet ?     bury the weasel  ?    stir the upskirt yogurt ?”     the euphemisms may not stop until she gets a yes.

Hiten had to agree. Though very attractive was perhaps pushing it. Still, they did enjoy some good compliments, and those usually tended to work. “Really, that’s a thing? If you get on pictures with hot people. I will have to try that then, we’ll take a picture, then send it through to me, so I can use it as well, eh? That way both of us may get some some action.” They grinned, because while their tinder could use some more hits, they certainly weren’t bothered with it that often. In general getting shit-faced at a club worked out for them. “I do have one worry though: are your other friends just not hot, or are you looking for friends too?”

Surprisingly with all of the anger Will had held onto for many years, it never manifested itself in a fight. Except for that one bar fight he had apparently gotten into right when he moved out to Vancouver, but if he couldn’t remember it, it didn’t found in his eyes. “Alright…all cleaned up…just don’t touch it and make sure you change the dressing twice a day. I’ll send you home with some stuff.” Moving to stand, Will glanced up at the stranger. “You mean the guy who just walked away good as new? How’d you get into it anyway?”

“Twice a day?” Hiten sighed. That was far too much self-care for someone like them. They couldn’t even be bothered to brush their teeth twice a day, once was already a task. They smirked at the question. “No, I literally mean the side-walk.” Bad joke. “I will fake amnesia for the occasion,” they added, really wanting to touch their knee right now. Instead they hovered a hand over it. “Probably a dumb argument.”

Alice was already laughing because it brought up a video someone had shown her on tik tok where a child was asking their alexa whether santa was real and the machine had confirmed that the entire tale was made up. “You’re right. Somehow I’ve failed to consider that there’s so much technology and all it takes is a wrong google search for someone to find the truth.” and children were savvy when it came to the internet. She’d seen too many children that could barely formulate full songs learn how to find youtube and pull it up. “On a boat. I’ve got to admit that’s a little more believable than the whole flying across the world in one night. My mom never told me about Santa and we didn’t really celebrate christmas.” A lot of the modern day traditions and holidays that weren’t from their culture weren’t something she was raised with because her mother never felt the need to participate.

“I will let you know what I come up with.” She smiles and then looks around, peering back at them when they confirm that they are in fact ghost tours. “I like the idea of serial killers more than hauntings. The whole trauma and inner workings to a killer is pretty fascinating.”

Hiten grinned, thinking she was laughing because she might’ve been thinking bout the same thing that they were. “Honestly, kids are far more clever than we think they are,” they said. They chuckled. “Ah yeah, or maybe this one is smart and only brings the gifts to the kids in that country, saves on time. I always wondered how America got it covered that Santa really goes all over the world. Really, if those Europeans have their own version… well, clearly Santa doesn’t go everywhere, so a kid would just have to talk with a kid from… France, and they would be like: nah, Santa doesn’t exist.” 

Hiten raised an eyebrow, leaving their reaction at that because there was this sudden fear that pressed through them at the idea of a serial killer. They believed both existed, ghosts and serial killers, and if they had to pick, they would rather interact with a ghost. “Eh, really? Nah, I think serial killers are fucked up, and I’d like to never find out what they’re thinking,” they said.

“Oh, good point” Harlow nodded, it was true. Sosh and Sawyer had basically become roommates at this point, so Harlow wouldn’t be surprised if the entire plan was to stick together for most of the night. “Oh, I am like the furthest thing from a dancer” He shook his head. “But I’ll sway next to you, how does that sound?” Harlow joked as he shifted his weight from one foot to another. 

“Y-Yeah, I mean, I am not exactly the smoothest person around” He ran a hand through his hair. “So, when it happens, it means that, obviously, the universe thinks that it is the right moment”

Hiten nodded, they knew it was a good point. At some point it was going to feel like they were some awkward family, with Sawyer bringing Harlow along, and Sosh them. “Hey, pretty funny though, we all have the same initials,” they said. Hiten laughed, watching Harlow sway. “Alright, you can start with the swaying, and I’ll get you to do more than that eventually, I’m very inspirational on the dancefloor.” 

They chuckled. “Ah good, because I was going to say something rather obscene if you hadn’t said it was about the smoothness,” they said, wiggling their eyebrows. “And I think you’re underestimating yourself, you just need the right situation.”

“Oh nice, hopefully you’re liking it here? It can be quite nice.” Raj had grown up here since his family moved from India. He was only six years old and Vancouver was so different and so… cold. Literally. He still remembered the first time he saw the leaves change color and the first time he saw snow. It was all a bit magical for a kid that young. He couldn’t help, but laugh, “I don’t know about rich. I’m a cardiologist, but with that comes a whole lot of medical school debt that I’m still paying off. That being said, I usually carve my own pumpkins, but I just completely blanked this year.”

“It’s colder than I hoped,” Hiten offered with a grin, shrugging. Not that their hometown in the USA was that much warmer, but it had been a few degrees, and that could make a huge difference. To them at least. “Sounds rich, despite the student debt, that is, but I bet you’ll be rich once that one is paid off,” they suggested. While they knew some people who had studied, it was still a non-existing issue to them. Perhaps it would stay like that. “And you’re hoping to find inspiration here?” they asked with a grin, looking around the place with amusement. “I mean… sure, there are some good ones, but I feel like everyone currently has Pinterest open.

Tyler was one that did like to go out and try places to eat and drink. But also was a fan of supporting small shops. So no the big chain places that made enough in a hour then some shops would make in a day.  So he was always one to go in before and after his shift for a drink and snack whatever he needed to keep going for the day. 

He had not seen the other since the someone awkward morning the other day. He didn’t know if any issues it was always going be weird as random hook up as he did. Something that Diego rarely did, it only happened when he just had so much going on he had to let go. 

But before the other could cover their face he saw them. Part of him was going to just let to and move on. But he was the type to say hello to anyone he knew. So he carried his cup over to them and smiled lightly “Hey….” he said he knew it was going to be awkward but he wanted to try and make it not so bad.

This was SO AWKWARD. Though perhaps that was just Hiten over-reaching in this particular instance because they simply couldn’t imagine being friends with a cop, sleeping with a cop, or doing anything with a cop. This reality had been so ingrained in their brain that while Canada was in fact a different country and the rules were different here, they hadn’t had a good interaction with cops, so they were bound to expect the worst.

“Hey,” they said in response, taking a deep breath. The interaction stung, and they wondered if there was a way to let go, to accept, to not have to deal with everything their brain conjured up whenever they saw his face.

Hiten really wanted to pet the huge bump on their knee to see if it hurt, because right now, leaning against the wall with an icepack against their head, it didn’t. They looked up at the paramedic and grinned. “You should see the other guy,” they said, pointing at the side-walk. “Showed him.” @willteoh​

Hiten had not seen the cop since their night together - or well, the awkward morning after - and they had been smart enough to avoid bars - or at least the same bar - since that evening. And following advice to always bring a power bank for their vape pen in order to not have to borrow anything from anyone anymore. 

And yet, there he was, having no idea the feelings Hiten hid underneath a lazy smile, the fear that would probably take some therapy to grow over. Just a one-night stand, they reminded themselves. 

Still, they threw up the comic book they were reading in their hands so they could hide behind it. Of all places, why did the cop have to show up at their favourite fake-starbucks? @tyramirez​

She looked at them and knew that face. Not everyone took how she thought that well and they seemed to be that way. “I’ve had to deal with truth and the pain of it all a lot, seen it right in front of my face come and go a few times” she looked down a moment “Today is only one day there is no real tomorrow. So why lie?” she said as she looked around a moment. “People will always lie no matter what” she let out a breath “I don’t see the point of it all but people can do what they want” she nodded.  “That’s normally how it goes” she chuckled for a moment” We all mostly will be feeling it on the first”  it was going to suck for a lot of people.

Hiten shrugged. People were entitled to their own opinions, but Hiten had no idea how they would’ve made it through school - or life - if not for their great skill at lying. “How about pretending then, eh? Let’s say you gotta pretend to be something else in order to... survive. By your book, that’s still lying? Or what about white lies? If everyone was honest constantly I’d have a lot more people mad at me,” they said with a laugh. “Normally... until we’re old and all we want to do is sit at home and sleep.”
