"A Trapped World"
“A Trapped World” Written by Tendo Beatz
As an avid hip hop listener and music producer, I think its only right that I lay down some of the game that Ive learned in the past year and a half in this industry. Some of you may or may not know but Ive been playing the piano for 8 or 9 years now and have been making beats for about 2. My music have been featured with XXL Magazine, HOT 97 Dj Enuff & Fake Shore Drive among many other notable publications. In my journey I have met almost every type of personality that you can imagine. I now finally understand the dynamical clash that occurs when you mix art and money. I mean even Chappelle doesn’t seem that crazy for dissing all that money away now when I see what type of luggage comes along with it. There is and will always be a battle when money is on the line because now you have investors who are essentially fronting or letting you borrow money in hopes of advertisement and brand recognition. In this day in age I understand that its tough to compete with a record deal when your living a broken down home with no electricity. I can not and will not ever knock the hustle but as black man living in America I have to ask, where does it end? So you were slinging dope and moving weight, ok I get it smh. No I’m not hear to preach and NO I am definitely not considered a saint by an means, but I do understand that the future of America lies in the music and also with the lyrics that are being spread up among the youth. Anyone who disagrees is incompetent or is just so money hungry to the point where they don’t care.😒 First lets break down what trap music is according to wiki: ➡️Trap music is also defined by its bleak, gritty and belligerent lyrical content, ominous characteristics which vary widely with the hip hop artist but typical lyrical themes include observations of street life, poverty, violence, and hardship in the “trap” and harsh experiences urban surroundings that the rapper is trying to lyrically portray to the listener. The most irritating notion about it all is that many of trap music listeners have never seen or stepped foot in the actual trap or hood. Lets be honest, most of the kids buying music and going to hip hop shows are white kids between the ages of 18-25. Just turn on the radio and the majority of the music you hear is trap music and the lyrics are either degrading someone or stereotyping ourselves. Clear channel, which runs the majority of the radio stations across the country is run by a board of advertisers which you guessed it, are all a bunch of older white men. These are the gatekeepers who are pushing this agenda on our youth. Killing, multiple children with different girls, all some dumb shit if you really think about it. Once you realize this you understand that capital runs the world and that its in these radio stations best interest to play whatever keeps the white kids happy because they are spending most of the money. Some argue that this is just what these white kids want to hear, they want to hear the stories vicariously through the rappers lens. They like to hear about someone cooking up dope in their mommas basement before they go to school and then has to carry a gun in order to have protection. This type of shit is funny for white kids but reality for a lot of black kids. Furthermore, brings up one of my other major concerns with the future of music. These people have no idea of the struggle that is involved with living in these communities, let alone just being a person of african decent in this country. From birth, most black men are born into negative preconceived notions that they are forced to carry through life’s eternity. Why is this? Well its easy, if you really dig down and think about it. Its the media, and the worst part about it is that its so systematically indirect that we don’t even realized were still being finessed, 200 years later. Everything from fashion magazines to a Ted Talks let us know how demonized and dismissed we have become. People want to say Obama has changed the country but has he really? Ive seen more hate crimes in the last 8 years then Ive seen in my entire existence on this planet. Why am I going into this? Well, as history has taught us, the music has always reflected the current era and vice versa. “Trap” music has taken over as the most popular form of hip hop deriving from haunting strings and 808 basses loud enough to shale the wheel. I don’t think may can argue about the beats, they bangin! lol The real concern is the lyrics and the stories that are told along these types of compositions. It seems to always be negative or condescending, and in the end it usually further assist in bringing the negative stereotype of us to reality through visuals and live performances. The emergence of trap queen has now lead every rapper to believe that they can sell dope, write a catchy hook and then they’re on. Not realizing that A. Fetty Wap actually had a couple of other mixtapes out before he popped off, its wasn’t overnight. B. A lot of artist don’t realize that these types of songs and artist usually don’t last. Sorry to spoil but the real music that resonates with the fans is that late night OVO type track. I mean lets look at the facts, Drake has literally sold the most number one singles of any rap artist, and he did it almost in the beginning stages of the pirating software and digital streaming era. Just listen to the music and you can quickly note that a lot his music is meant to be listened to late at night in your headphones. These are the types of compositions that really bring connect and bring out the nostalgia. This is why he has sold the most number ones. People call him soft but the same nigga that talks shit to his boys in the club will then go home and listen to thank me later on a low-key tip. These are facts! So if you are an artist reading this I hope you can take something positive away from this post. I love and respect all trap music, I just cant get down with the message tho, especially considering what has been happening in the news. I think music is the only tool that can be used to bring people together, its the one common denominator that everyone can relate to.

DGM Exclusive Artist Profile (Saturday Edition): Dru B(@Dru_B1)
The Saturday edition of our profile series goes to Dru B, a producer out of my hometown Chicago. The goal of this series is for my viewers to get acquainted with artists from around the United States, so it was only right to add Dru.
Just looking at Dru’s production discography is impressive on it’s own, having produced for the likes of Taylor Bennett, Murph Watkins and The Boy Illinois. Want to hear these tracks along with some deconstruction of the beats that go along with them? Stay tuned.
Here at the DGM blog we feel a producer is an artist in their own right, and just as important and vital to hip hop as a genre. Dru has been gridin’ for awhile now, and it’s time to take his career to the next level. My only wish is to get his music to a wider audience.
The above picture is an exclusive photo that no one of the public has seen yet. You will see this picture in the near future, as it is a cover of a particular album. Keep it locked here on DGM to learn more about Dru and his story.
If your unfamiliar with the Artist Profile series, check out the previous two with Henny L Dot and Gone Wallace. As of right now the series is full so I can’t add anymore artists but as always, interviews are possible along with exclusive posts. If interested get at me on Twitter: @DGM_blog
