Naoki's comment on DEATHGAZE's Hiatus

I’ve been playing drums for DEATHGAZE for over 10 years, and I thought this would be the thing I continued to do for my whole life.

However, this might be a selfish thing to say, but until now we’ve released many albums, and played gigs, but I can’t see a future past ENIGMA. So, that’s why I decided on a hiatus. 

I like DEATHGAZE, and of course the feeling that I want to continue with music will not change.

And it’s exactly because of that, when faced with that feeling (of wanting to continue music), I thought that there was no choice other than the decision of a hiatus. And that was agreed by all members.

But I’m just really very sorry that it’s a sad announcement for all of the fans that have always supported us. 

But I believe that this decision is something that has a future, for DEATHGAZE, for me and for the other members too. So I’d like you to come to terms with our decision.

It’s a sudden announcement, and there aren’t too many lives left, but just like I have done up until now, I’m going to drum with all of my power, so please support me!

Kousuke's comment on DEATHGAZE's Hiatus

Out of all of the announcements we’ve made up until now, this is the most unpleasant.

And I’m really very sorry that in terms of our schedule, it’s quite a sudden announcement. 

It’s a decision we’ve come to after each of the members thinking and worrying about it quite a long time.

Since we decided the hiatus, our concerts have been really good, and if I’m frank I honestly think it’s a bit of a waste (to go on hiatus). 

I wanted to see more places with everyone, it’s really a shame…

However, it really is a decision that we all made together, having considered lots of things, so I’d like you to take the news onboard. 

Having to give this sort of announcement to everyone who supports us is really difficult, but until the very last live we have arranged, I’m going to perform with all of my energy so please support us with all of your might, until the very last.

DEATHGAZE HIATUS

Thank you for your constant support.

It’s quite sudden, but after the live on 23rd of December, DEATHGAZE will pause activities. The hiatus is indefinite. 

Last year we greeted the 10th anniversary of the formation of DEATHGAZE, and will have been active for 11 years as of this year. But with 「ENIGMA」we feel that we exhausted all that we can do as these 4 members.

In the thought that from now on we won’t make any new work, and a DEATHGAZE beyond our current form will not be born…

...We are very sorry to all of the fans, others bands and staff who have supported us for all of this being so sudden. 

But, after many talks since producing ENIGMA, it’s a positive judgement we have made and we feel that this decision is the best.

We’re going to perform the remaining lives of this year with all of our heart and soul, so we hope that you will support us.

Rough translation of Ai's hiatus statement

In the 11 years that we have been active as DEATHGAZE, lots has happened. 

We’ve had many member changes, and the fact that each time we’ve started again and been able to continue until now is down to all of those that supported us. I am really grateful. Thank you so much.

About one third of my life has been spent with this band, and I constantly gave it my all. We pursued music that only this band was able to produce. And while feeling many times that we were already at our limit, we really tried desperately to overcome those boundaries.

This time, regarding the decision of indefinite hiatus, each member respectively had things to consider, and I think it’s a necessary choice that we reached with a positive/forward looking attitude. 

Right up until the hiatus starts we’re going to seek an even more deathgaze-like height, as our selves, DEATHGAZE.

And from now it’s just a case of holding all of the things we’ve produced/done over these 11 years very dear, risking our lives and trying our best, just as we have always done the past, still do now and will continue to do in the future. 

To me, that has come to exist as DEATHGAZE, that is everything. 

2014 is ending pretty soon, but I’m still trying my best so that 2014 will become the most amazing year, and so that I can be contented both next year and the year after next.
