" Wait,...you didn't know Ryosuke and I were dating?", Tiffany was puzzled with the other's shock. ( Takaki )
"Huh? No no I knew, actually probably knew before the others did. No I'm confused as to how I'm here?"
The everyday experiences of Dr. Ronald Takaki(which reveal he is viewed by many as not American) versus those of my spouse's Italian family members expose that in the twenty-first century USA. being seen as white continues to impact whether or not one is viewed and treated as American.
Dr. Takaki and others of Japanese descent remain outside of the current construct of white, while Italians in the USA have been folded into it. Because immigration and naturalization law and policy have worked to create a "white equals American" equation, those who are viewed as white are likely to be likewise viewed as American. This history reveals that being seen as American has had little to do with how long one's family has been in the USA or how much one's family has contributed to the educational, business, military or any other success the USA can claim.
WIP Aston and Takaki :)
I just watched 5 centimeters per second and I feel so utterly betrayed that Makoto didn’t make Akari and Takaki end up together.
