I didn't know that I didn't know.
this literally just reminded me to take my meds
man I am still off and on reading up on the history of amphetamine abuse and I cannot emphasize enough how small ADHD doses actually are relative to the historical doses people were slinging around for diets and runny noses, not to mention how non-habit-forming those doses are. Which is good, because they used to pass this shit out to soldiers in candy bars.
Much of the moral panic about ADHD is rooted in the belief that this is the way Big Pharma can still make a profit on fifty, sixty, seventy year old drugs and cash cows, and they're shilling it to children to keep them dependent. Personally, I have always wondered how much of the historical popularity of amphetamines comes down to people with ADHD discovering that the drug helped them in other venues of their lives.
anyway this is a great reminder to go back and read Meth Mania off my to-read list. maybe post an excerpt while I'm at it.
I’ve taken Adderall for nearly 20 years. I haven’t needed to increase the dose in all those years. I sometimes take med breaks on weekends or vacations, and when I do, I don’t experience any kind of withdrawal symptoms. All that happens is that I’m more distracted.
All this adds up to: No dependence. No addiction.
I mean yeah sure it’s possible to abuse Adderall, but it’s also possible to abuse Robitussin, and you don’t have to get drug-tested in order to buy a bottle of Robitussin.
A few weeks ago Liv and I had a nice weekend in Long Island to see Willie Nelson and go camping and we found this magnificent Duck who stole the show.
You can go inside the duck where it’s kind of a Big Duck museum and shop and I saw that I wasn’t the first New Yorker cartoonist to be beguiled by the duck.
I bought a Big duck tshirt and we just took in the Duck ambiance for 5 minutes before we headed back home.
Correct.
I wish it were as easy for me to give up on you as it was for you to give up on me.
