“Hopefully its actual aid and not forced labor or tribute” he remarked rather sternly.
She fought the impulsion to bite back at the comment, bu instead plastered a smile on her face, one that always ignited the bright blues. “We wouldn’t dream of it, the civilians don’t actually have to do any work unless they want to. It’s all about communication and doing everything we can to help them on their terms. For example, being a doctor, I can assist in any medical needs anyone may have, or help them learn a bit about making chems that can help them and how to treat wounds. So we leave them in a better position they were in before we came. If they don’t wish for our help, we simple trade with them and move on, nothing is forced in any way.” She made damn sure of it, it was frustrating of course, when they didn’t want their help but she would not make them take it, that was not the impression she wished to impose with this mission.
ravenouswastelander:
“B-But you fellas have food in here; Sugar Bombs, Nuka Cola — Even Cram! Cram for pete’s sake!” Ignoring any sort of repercussion this would yield he tried to at most begging. “Pleease?” Emphasizing. “I’ll do anything just for some mere scraps of food!”
They did, however they were not in any position to give them out. She would if she could, hell she would throw the whole damn lot at everyone she saw that was in need but she wasn’t the quartermaster. “Please, keep your voice down.” She cast a wary look over her shoulder. “Look I have a few of my own rations on me, you can have them but you must keep your voice down.”
Completely fell in love with Jaal, he’s so freaking adorable! And then I met Reyes! <3 now I know I need a second play through (which was going to happen anyway) just so I can romance the fuck outta him!
I’ve finally done all my replies now! I’m so sorry they took so long, I will be keeping on top of them all now :) I’m happy to write some new starters if you think our thread got lost or you just want to start a new one :)

a smirk makes it’s way onto her face when she’s told how known she was. even though it was something as simple as waking, p r i d e was taken nonetheless. but that pride quickly fades to cation when she offers to help, && she looks her over.
this cation is a fear that the young scribe were betray her, no. it was one of distrust towards herself && if she could make sure she doesn’t die if this promise turned out to be a lie. if this girl died because she made the wrong choice, she sure as hell couldn’t live with it.
but alessandra decided to give the girl the benefit of the doubt; she was in the brother hood of steel after all. there was little doubt this faction would accept just anyone.
❝ is that right ??? —WELL, if you’re not busy right now i’ll invite you to help right now. ❞
Haylen simply smiled in reply, she was always willing to help no matter what, even if she would struggle she would help. If the cause was true and right she’d right there fighting and powering on, just to make the world a little better. She amied high, too high sometimes and had to knock herself firmly back to the ground and out of the clouds, one woman could only do so much and she had the restrictions of the Brotherhood and their ideals she felt bound by. So she helped in small doses here and there, this was one of them.
“Before I became a Scribe I was training to be a Knight, but my medical knowledge and my love of tinkering with tech made me a better candidate for a Field Scribe. So I’m brains and brawn all in one.” She shrugged, she wasn’t showing off, she didn’t know how to, it was a simple statement to help the other understand her abilities and what assistance she could be. “Alright then,” She beamed at the other, bouncing on her heels slightly. “Lead the way, you can fill me in along the way.”
thewanderingtrenchcoat:
“I sure hope so” he mumbled. “If you don’t mind I wouldn’t mind helping. If what you say is true” he crossed his arms skeptically.
“It is,” The short remark was firm, but said with care. She was here to prove that her section of the Brotherhood was taking on the world with good cause. “We need all the help we can at the moment. It’s basic stuff, setting up camp and rationing out supplies. Tomorrow we contact the settlement and offer any aid we can.”
undcrboss:
“ Could have used that offer, some twenty years back. It weren’t a doctor that treated me, then. We didn’t have one of those in the place I was livin’ at the time. ”
It was a raider fortress, after all. While they had the time and the resources to care for him, it wasn’t as though they had knowledge beyond basic first aid. He’d suffered persistent infection, fever and delirium, for months on end. By the time he was well enough to walk, by the time his boss carved away the rot around the wound, half his face looked like mincemeat.
“ Not like I’m complaining: I lived, ” he continued in that slow, casual drawl - which perhaps clashed with the solemnity of the topic at hand, “ Can’t tell you how many folks I’ve seen die from stupid shit like steppin’ on a nail or bumpin’ their heads. Seems to me like doctors are never around when you need them. …Or maybe I’m just unlucky. ”
She smirked at the statement, “I don’t think my plastic toy medical kit would have done much good really, but I would have tried my damned hardest.” Being a Doctor had been her sole goal in life, she’d spent many hour making sure her Teddys breathing and heart rate were spot on and if there was a sudden problem she was ready and waiting to help. Granted, Teddy lost of few limbs from overzealous CPR but all in all she was born to be a Doctor. “Teddy certainly survive every medical procedure so I’m sure you’d have pulled through.” She mused on her thoughts, trying to make sure her earlier gripe at the other was shown to have been forgotten and not normally like her.
“Well that is the main thing and it doesn’t look like it’s giving too much bother really. They must have done a fair number on you, you’re very lucky but I’m sure you know that.” Not many, even with the best medical equipment, would have gotten through a wound like that. “Oh we’re in short supplies, I know that, I don’t think I sleep most days when I’m back at base, making sure everyone is alright. Worried that if I sleep I’m not going to be there for someone.” She huffs at the thought. “But at least there is some of us around.”
ammisum-victoriam:
Ben disliked raiders as much as the next person, but she seemed to harbor… an even stronger hatred. But he didn’t question the reason, seeing as raider tended to deserve the hatred they received. They were hardly popular amongst anyone with a brain in their head. “You won’t find me disagreeing with that statement, that is for sure.” Just as the case was with anyone, they had never been anything less than a thorn in his side, and at worst, a real pain in the ass to deal with.
“I’m sure you’d be surprised. I have met some people with a real death wish in my time. You would almost think they actually wanted to die.” He gives a small shrug of his shoulders, no doubt there had been a time in his life when the same could be said of himself.
“I like the sound of that. People are often too far removed from each other. To a point that it becomes nearly impossible to act if some sort of issue was to arise.” Settlers tended to rely on mercenaries in order to get things moved around, or moreover, to keep the settlements safe. While that definitely gave Ben a steady stream of work, even he saw they had to become more self reliant, and the sooner, the better.
There’s a soft chuckle from Ben at the statement. “I wouldn’t complain if it was easy. Of course, with sorts like those, the whole situation could go either way.” Mismatched gaze moves to her. “I am Benjamin, but you may call me whatever you’d like.” There is a small nod at her name. “Haylen. It’s good to make your acquaintance.“
It was a horrible thought, but there were many around that weren’t meant for this world, that couldn’t settle into it. Survival wasn’t ingrained into their genes and they found it a constant struggle to try and basically live every day to day life. Perhaps everyone went through it, the moment of clarity, but if you could fight through it, life wasn’t all that bad and there was enough good moment if you found your purpose to keep fighting and changing the world. They would make a small dent in the right direction today.
“Well, more trade routes open up more for everyone, if they are well guarded enough then it’ll drive the raider further out.” That was her hope anyway, she couldn’t say that she would solve world problems in the blink of an eye, but a step in the right direction was always helpful for everyone. Including the Brotherhood, they needed their name to ring positively on peoples lips, every good deed would open up more opportunities. It wasn’t the reason why she was doing this, far from it, it was just a nice bonus in the long run.
She smiled at the remark, she liked to place little nicknames to people and they often stuck fairly readily from then on as long as the other didn’t take offence to it. “And you, well then Benjamin, lets kick some Raider butt. Hopefully, this drop on them will be just the surprise we need to get in and out as quick as we can.”
outlcwradio:
She seemed… Legitimately nice. It was rare for Eddie to meet humans that actually seemed to care about other people. Maybe she could help him. He wasn’t giving away much in terms of details, but he might be able to get some information in order to learn about these people. The memories he had may be biased. “I actually work for a radio station here. I was hoping to get a look at you guys… I mean, most people here haven’t even heard of you.”
That wasn’t a surprise, well to her it still was, back home everyone knew them and their motives. However, that differed here, their intentions were very much changed from ‘the good old days’ and their presence wasn’t as broad as it was in the Capital. Yet. So knew the drive and passion of Maxon and knew that it wouldn’t be long before the name Brotherhood of Steel was on everyone’s lips. “Oh, I didn’t know there were anymore radio stations out here, only heard the Diamond City one and that other one that comes from Good Neighbour, the one about the hero.” She knew full well what it was, but her overall love for it would explode into an jabbering mess of incoherent noise that she didn’t want to inflict on the other. “It’s not surprising, we haven’t been her all that long. We’re the Brotherhood or Steel, I’m Field Scribe Haylen, nice to meet you.”
theghoulwanderer:
Eveline’s shoulders slumped and she finally allowed the woman to lead her along, exhaustion taking over. She hugged herself, letting out a heavy sigh.
“Please,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “Please let me in. I’ll take a maintenance job. I’ll stay on the ground. Just let me back in.” She couldn’t stop the tears now. Her lower lip quivering. “I don’t want to be alone anymore. Please, Scribe. I can’t handle it. I feel like I’m going insane. At least let me see or contact Sarah. At least give me that, she’ll want to see me, I swear!” The volume of her voice was rising again.
Evie lowered her arms, shaking slightly. “Please, miss. I have caps if that’s what you want.”
Honestly, Haylen couldn’t answer the other, because there was nothing she could say, nothing at all. The situation was what it was, there was nothing in her power, which was limited, that could help the other. Words could only do so much and even then they felt hollow. A Brotherhood member telling her that she would be killed because of what she was despite her work for them, it broke her heart, it went against ever moral fiber in her body. But what could she do then tell her that some people out there didn’t feel that way.
“I’m sorry, there is nothing I can do, I don’t have the power and even if I did, I know for certain the answer would be the same.” She tried to make the statement as nice as she could, so the harsh reality wouldn’t hit her like a ton of bricks, but ease her down gently and hopefully come to a solution somehow, what ever that could be, at the moment she didn’t know. “Sarah? I don’t know a Sa...” The statement was cut short just as the realisation hit her. She meant Lyons, the older Pride, the one that didn’t exist anymore. “Oh... I’m so sorry, but Sarah... Sarah died, in the line of duty a few years ago.” Her voice trailed off at the end, Haylen didn’t do too well with circumstances like these, she could deliver medical news easily but this, she couldn’t work out how to go about this.
Right, I am back now! I’m really sorry it’s been very hectic recently at work (which is a good thing really) and I’ve been ill as well (which is not a good thing) but now I’m making sure I make time for replies and that. If I owe you one and miss it in the next few days let me know I don’t mind at all, or if our thread just ended and you’d rather start a new one again just let me know I don’t mind :D
I am still here, I have been lurking and attempting my drafts. I was going to do some tonight but I'm hella ill so I will see how I feel later on today as to whether I can concentrate enough to do them :)
mx001e:
He just stared at the woman as she continued on with the plan on how this whole thing could work. None of it sounded bad, nor did it not sound like things would fall apart the moment the team even tries to set things in motion. Suppose he was putting a fair bit of trust in Haylen to actually get the job done. She had the passion for it and sometimes that is enough to see something through. It was not as if he was against the idea of helping the people of the Commonwealth though. He grew up with the idea from Elder Lyons that to be isolated was no way to help the faction strengthen itself. There was just a plan to get one thing done before proceeding to the next objective. In this case, destroy the Institute first and then deal with everything else afterwards.
Still, he did not rain on Haylen’s parade. Instead, he agreed to it simply. She would need quite a hefty team for the plans she wishes to set forth, but that was not a concern for the Brotherhood of Steel at the moment. They could spare a couple more people to deal with a different set of operations down in the Commonwealth. Thus, he nodded. “It is quite alright,” he spoke in reply. “You sound like you have thought much about this, so I will leave this in your hands. You will have to assemble the team your own self, but try not to leave other teams missing a few key people from their original jobs, that is all I ask. As for assisting the people, I do want for more precautions than what you would do for a normal recon team. Trust goes a long way and if I am correct to assume that the people here do not hold much of a high opinion of us, it would be best to ease the team into the public sphere.”
“I have.” She didn’t really want to admit it, she wouldn’t have done before now. She knew her job and she knew it well and was more than happy to do it for the Brotherhood. But deep inside she knew that she had so much more in her, more to give. Now that the seed had been planted she was ready to throw herself into it full steam ahead and no one would stop her now. They couldn’t if they tried. She knew who to ask, who would be the right people for her team, how ever hard she thought about it should wouldn’t ask Rhys, he lived completely by the Brotherhoods rules there was no space for anything else and this was her chance to get away, to stop living in his shadow and under his spell.
“I can do that, don’t worry I want people on my team that want to do this, I believe for this to go right we need those that are just as passionate as I am.” It would mainly be Scribes, those that could give the most for the team, the last thing she wanted was to bulldoze in and scare the civilians, a few keys knights for travelling protection would be enough the rest would be scholars and workers, those that could teach civilians how to live and grow. “I should be able to cover medical, I believe a few engineers and scholars would suffice for now, then a few knights so we have some protecting. We’ll start further out, in small communities first, see if they take to us and then work our way inwards, hopefully caravans will spread a positive rumour of our job and we can build from there.” She hoped then, by the time they got too any bigger settlements they would be looking forward to them getting there and helping out, rather than it be a sudden introduction with no reason. “I’ll have a report and list of names by the end of the week Sir, and thank you for the opportunity, I promise it’ll be a success and I won’t let you down.”
lepuscor:
“Don’t fire?!” Of course, his own weapon was drawn, and he held himself defensively. “They’re the ones who drew first!” Or so he thought, the movement had all happened way too quickly he relied on instinct. Or maybe he was mistaking it with PARANOIA…
It’s okay… it’s okay, right?
His grip on his pistol loosened, though reluctantly, the finger released the trigger, and he licked his lips, his whole body still jittery, but when he finally brought down his weapon, he did his best to straighten himself out. “I’m sorry,” he repeated, his tone hardening, or what felt like his attempt at it, there was still some shakiness behind it. “I’m sorry, it’s just with the shit that often goes down here, it’s enough to make anyone on edge, right? Also, I haven’t been sleeping well, I’m becoming somewhat of a coffee addict… also cigarette addict, had my last one a while back.” He inhaled deeply, the mood of his demeanor completely turned around; he smirked.
“So, I don’t suppose any of you fine, lovely people are carrying one right now?”
“It’s fine, it’s fine no one is going to fire.” A scolding look was cast over her shoulder as she waved a hand at them, telling them to scout the area, the could be hitting a more settled area now that they had come across someone and the last thing she wanted was to stumble in blind and scare people. They were meant to be helping.
Holstering her weapon she moved towards the other, a small but bright smile lifted up freckled cheeks as she listened to the other ramble on, not wishing to interrupt him. The smile lifted some more when he had finish, she could relate to the coffee addiction, it was the first thing she reached for in a morning and it was what kept her going right into the night. “I understand, honestly I do, we have to be very careful, a lot of people hit our group suddenly and we have to remain cautious, although I’m pretty good at judging folk I like to believe that you won’t be causing us a problem.” Her tone remained light and gentle, no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t get it to sound harsh, there was always a calming lilt to it. “Ah, I’m sure one of them should have some, I’m sure they’ll lend you one to help calm your nerves. I apologise for startling you.” She moved to the nearest Scribe that she knew would have some on them and promptly returned with a cigarette and light. “I hope this can help a little.”
icedsole:
❝ YUP, that me—- the fossil herself. ❞
a light chuckle sounded from her, amused by her own joke, before she turned to the other. she doesn’t look to her, though. no, she’s looking down at her pistol as she loaded a full clip in there.
❝ there’s a settlement being bothered by a group of raiders around here. i’m just here to c l e a r them out. ❞
Haylen had this strange admiration for anyone that was mentioned on the radio in good faith. It was like they had reached that celebrity status and to her that was something to get excited about. It pushed the world to believe that there is good within it and that they can also do something to help.
She chuckled along with the joke, understanding it from the whispers that she had been buried within a vault for some many years. “You are all anyone talks about.”
“Raiders? Scum the lot of them, if you need any help I’m more than happy to come along, an extra gun is always helpful. I may just be a Scribe but I have a wicked aim.”
