Thought I would finally post some of the (beginner level) early medieval calligraphy I have been trying out with some of my favourite texts. (I made the classic mistake here of running out of room)
Extract from Völsunga saga 13, with my translation:
Nú rÃðr Sigurðr à brott. Hans skjoldr var marg falda ok laugadr à rauðu gulli ok skrifaðr á einn dreki.
Ok hans nafn gengr à öllum tungum fyrir norðan Grikklands naf ok svá mun vera meðan veöldin stendr.
Now Sigurðr rode away. His shield was ornamented and bathed with red gold and painted with a dragon.
And his name is known in all tongues further north than the Greek ocean, and so it must remain while the world stands.
Brown hyena sketch with Latin text from the medieval Bestiary. Inspired by catching up with David Attenborough's Kingdom. My translation:
Concerning the Hyena. The animal which is called Hyena lives in the sepulchres of the dead, feeding on the bodies. It's nature is that it is sometimes male, sometimes female, and therefore it is an unclean animal.
Solinus reports many wonders about it; firstly, that it prowls around shepherds' sheep folds, and circles houses during the night. Continually listening it learns language, so that it is able to speak in imitation of human voices, in order to attack any man enticed out at night by the guile of its summons.
Study of the Apollo of Veii, 510-500 bce. Archaic style is so fun. There is metallic paint on there but it doesn't show up properly here.

A helpful neanderthal ghost gives tips on flint working.
I used some of tom björklund's wonderful neanderthal pieces as references, especially one piece depicting a father teaching his son.
It is I who am named 'Shining Armour',
Mine is the fierceness that turned on all foes.
It is I who am the prince leading on in darkness.

Oof I've not posted art for ages - Here's a Kano!
Where has the horse gone? Where is the rider? Where is the giver of gold? Where is the feasting? Where are the joys of the hall?
