“And I scream ‘for whatever it’s worth, I love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?”
— Cruel Summer, Taylor Swift
———
You and Jeon Jungkook have known each other for years.
You know him like the back of your hand, not because you wanted to, but because you were obliged to, with the god-awful amount of time that you spent together.
Everything started back in art class. You had been fifteen at the time and had enrolled in the Visual Arts IGCSE course, as did he. There were only five students in the class, which was the main reason as to how you got to know your classmates that well, considering that these were the sorts of people that you wouldn’t normally hang out with on a daily basis.
You’d taken a seat next to Jungkook on that very first day of class, your colored markers in one hand and your sketchbook in the other, when he’d first decided to pick on the state of your shirt.
“Your shirt is crumpled,” he’d stated matter-of-factly, as though he didn’t have any filter, as though he didn’t care that it might affect your feelings. Good for him that you weren’t the type of person to take things to heart.
You merely straightened and looked at him, “thanks for the observation.”
“Don’t you iron your shirts?”
“Uhm no, I forgot,” you eyed his very organized desk, noticed the straight angles of his own sketchbook perpendicularly placed with his ruler. His pens stacked at its side, parallel to the paper, and his hands poised onto the fresh page.
Your gaze then traveled up to his clean, crisp shirt, hair parted to the side and glasses perched on his nose.
Your eyebrows raised in curiosity as he said, “coming to school with a crumpled up shirt just shows how disorganized you are. Or maybe you didn’t have enough time. Then that’s time-management skills that you lack.”
“Thanks, I’ll take that into consideration,” you’d replied sarcastically.
And from there, you had learnt to know who Jeon Jungkook really was.
Undeniably, he had an amazing gift for art which no one could argue with, so all his backhanded comments were, over time, either ignored or playfully used as insults to tease him back. He was a funny guy — in the sense that he barely had any filter or sense of what was socially accepted to talk about — but you couldn’t say he hadn’t grown on you over the past years and funnily enough, you both ended up in the same university course as Visual Arts major.
“You again?” You’d groaned on the first day of lecture upon noticing his tall, dark frame behind round spectacles. Even out of high school, he still wore a shirt -- this one pale blue -- tucked into sable pants, hair combed back into that side part that now sportrd a few bangs, and his glasses.
He grinned at you from his seat, “hello, Y/N.”
“Why are you here?” You dramatically fell into your seat, swiveled towards him with an exasperated sigh as your chin fell into your hand.
“Because I applied for Visual Arts and got in.”
“Well yeah I knew that much,” you rolled your eyes, “but I thought you wanted to be an architect. Isn’t that what you said before graduation?”
“You remember?” His grin widened, “that’s nice of you—“
“Not on purpose, you dweeb. Now tell me why you’re here instead of bugging someone else in architecture 101.”
“I am in architecture,” he lifted his shoulder in a shrug, “but my course asks for an art prerequisite. They said I couldn’t use my high school grades to give me my transfer credits because art wasn’t my main subject.”
“That’s bullshit. Your art was the best out of all of us.”
“Apparently it wasn’t good enough for them.”
You tilted your head at him, “so you’re telling me I have to suffer through this with you, again? Didn’t I do enough of that in high school?”
“Technically, you’re the one who came to sit next to me.”
“You got a point. Maybe I should move.”
But you didn’t. Not wanting to admit it, you were actually grateful knowing that Jungkook was a familiar element amidst all this new environment. Not that you’d ever tell him that though, knowing he’d take full advantage of it.
That didn’t stop you from complaining about it with your mother every time you saw her appear on your phone screen. She would only laugh and tease you about it, saying that out of all universities, Jeon Jungkook had chosen the one you had applied to. Surely, according to her, she thought it was fate.
“It’s not fate,” you’d grumbled into your pillow, “how can it be fate? He just likes to torture me.”
“He’s not that bad Y/N,” your mother chided, “and you know how he is. His mother said so at the exhibition, remember?”
Yes, you had remembered how his mother had apologized following Jungkook’s harsh criticism of your projects. How could you forget? It had been on the final exhibition evening where all students were decked in black and white to follow the theme of the night, and as part of your final exhibition, you’d had to criticize and analyze your classmates’ pieces with your teacher as mediator. And when Jungkook had been asked to voice his thoughts about your work, he had been void of kindness:
“It doesn’t seem genuine.”
“It lacks of technique.”
“You could’ve used more depth.”
“I don’t see the connection between the artist and the audience.”
Not wanting to cry in front of the entire class had you running to the bathroom as tears streamed down your face, which caused his mother to follow you while trying to explain her son’s horrible behaviour.
“I’m so sorry Y/N. You know he doesn’t mean it that way, not really—“
“Oh then, in what way does he mean it then?” You’d sniffled into your tissue, hating how red your eyes looked in the mirror, “because to me that sounded downright condescending and honestly, I thought better of him—“
“He’s different, Y/N.”
“Different?” You pause, “what do you mean…different?”
That was when she explained about Social Cues Disorder, also known as SCD, which was placed on the Asperger’s spectrum despite being slightly different from the said diagnostic. And as she spoke, it became clear why Jungkook didn’t have any social barriers into speaking his mind even when it might hurt people or be taken the wrong way. The thing was, he didn’t know.
Nevertheless, it took you a few days to recover from his personal attack. You were surprised when Jungkook came up to you a few days after the exhibition to offer you an apology.
“My mother said she told you about SCD,” he spoke as though they were talking about the weather when to you, it was slightly difficult to handle such a topic when you had no idea whether he’d take it right or wrong, “she also said I need to apologize because I was very harsh on you during the exhibition.”
You swallowed thickly, the sting of tears building in your eyes as the memory resurfaced, “yes. You were.”
“I’m sorry,” he replied without missing a beat, “I didn’t know it would hurt your feelings. According to the doctors, I don’t know how to understand people’s emotions or react to people, or say the right thing. So I’m sorry, because I’m sure I might do it again.”
You looked at him for a long moment, judging the weight of his words. Then, you sighed, “that’s fine, Jungkook. Thanks.”
If you removed his lack of total empathy, Jungkook was admittedly kind of fun to be around. He had the most hilariou responses to everything, which you learnt the more you sat next to him in class.
"Color blindness is an eyesight problem," he said one day when you told him that you believed color blindness to be some sort of supernatural gift.
"Well how do you know that the colors you see are the real ones?" You lean over your desk, pen in hand as the soft scratches of pencil to paper filled the room, "maybe we're the ones who are colour blind."
"That is scientifically incorrect."
"Who said so?"
He looked at you as if you were an idiot, "it was scientifically proven, Y/N. I don't think your argument is valid."
"Okay, so let's take schizophrenia for example," you quickly fired back, "people say that those with this disorder hallucinate and see things that aren't there. But maybe, wait--hear me out," you added when Jungkook started shaking his head, "maybe these people actually see things that we don't."
Jungkook's eyebrow rose in what looked to be half-amusement, "I'm not sure that's a valid point. Also, it's medically incorrect to be sharing false information about psychological disorders."
"Not everything is quantifiable, you know."
"Still, what you're saying is that these people have superpowers that don't exist."
"Exactly."
"Sounds like some kind of marvel action movie to me."
Of course he would say something like that. What were you expecting more? With time, you came to understand the phenomenon that was Jeon Jungkook, with his weird quirks and curious way of thinking. You secretly wondered whether he knew how easily people got triggered by his responses, or whether he just went through life with his own kind of colorblindness.
You got rewarded with a first-hand situation between him and another classmate of yours a few days later, going by the name of Kim Changbin.
It was in the middle of mid-term and since deadlines were comig up soon, the printmaking studio was crammed with students trying to finish up their portfolio projects in time. You would normally give Jungkook a hand with the technical materials and tools needed and after having set up his screen, was busy arranging your own set of colours when a voice pierced through the room in anger.
"What the fuck, Jeon?!" Your head swivelled to see Changbin at the station that Jungkook had been standing at seconds prior, looking quite murderous with his damaged screen in hand. Facing him was Jungkook, a palette knife held in mid-air, "what's wrong with you, flaunting that thing around when we all have screens?!"
"I'm sorry," the words came out straight away from Jungkook's mouth, "It wasn't my intention. I'll make sure to work on it--"
"Work on it?" Changbin's nostrils flared. He stepped towards the taller man, "this took me fucking weeks to perfect. And what? You're going to work on it?" He took another step closer, causing Jungkook to lean back, " How the fuck am I supposed to get my artwork back huh?"
"I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention," Jungkook parroted again with eyes glassy as though he didn't know what to say, "I'll make sure to wo--"
"Yeah I heard you the first time!" Changbin hollered, index stabbing at his chest, "this artwork is my scholarship ticket and you fucking ruined it!"
"Hey hey," you quickly stepped in-between the two men, hand latching onto Changbin's shoulder, "he said he was sorry okay? Let's just calm down and--"
"Move out, Y/N, this is none of your fucking business," Changbin pushed you away and you stumbled. He took this chance to lunge for Jungkook's chest and the latter whimpered, yelping and handa scrabbling to push Changbin away, "you gonna take responsibility, dumbass?--"
"I'm sorry it wasn't my intention--"
"You fucking retard you can't even --"
"--make sure to work on--"
"Shut up!" And before he knew it, Jungkook yelped and pushed Changbin away.
"Changbin!"
"Jungkook!"
Changbin fell, crashed straight into a table with such force it split down the middle. For a minute, he lay there motionless, the entire class rendered silent.
And in the middle of it all, a panicked Jungkook holding his hands over his ears.
He crouched down as people moved towards Changbin concern and you took this chance to go to your friend, hearing him mutter the exact same phrase over and over again with a blank look in his eyes.
"Jungkook," your words were quiet as your hand wrapped around his shoulder tentatively, "hey, you alright bud? Let's get you out of here, okay?"
But as if he just realized you were his only safe anchor, the young man was quick to wrap his arms around your middle before he buried his head into your chest.
Your cheeks flamed, but you went to caress the back of his head, knowing that this was not a normal situation. He needed you.
"Jungkook?" You whispered and tried ignoring the way your heart skipped a beat, "you okay?"
"Just--please. Don't move."
Few words with so much power. You couldn't help but crumble and hold him closer if that was possible, hoping that the consequences that would follow would hopefully be called an accident.
This was the first time you'd seen Jungkook, as who he really was. You could have walked away , you had that choice, if you wanted to.
But you didn't.
---
"Hey."
Changbin's angry eyes fluttered up to yours from the nurse's bed. He'd been admitted to the campus clinic for an overnight watch in case something went wrong with his back. Due to the force of his fall, he now sported bruises all along his spine and you knew without doubt he'd use it as blackmail against Jungkook even if the wounds were superficial.
"What do you want?" He growled.
From his narrow-eyed stare, it was clear that he was not enjoying his current predicament; that being pinned down to a bed.
"How are you feeling?" You moved a little closer and tried not to flinch under his hard gaze, "I just wanted to see if you were alright."
"Well you got your answer," he snapped, "now if you don't have anytbing else to say, get lost."
"I'm sorry. Jungkook--he's a bit socially awkward and I know you took a lot of time to finish this--"
"That's not your job, is it?" He chuckled emptily, "why are you apologizing on his behalf?"
"Because I know that's what he wants to say, but he's not in a state to say it right now," you took another step closer until you were at his bedside, "so before you go and think that he's just a loser, I wanted to clarify it with you."
"What are you, his mom or something?"
"We're friends, Changbin."
He shook his head, looking amused and you were glad he didn't seem to be so angry now that you exchanged more than two words with him, "and how exactly, did you become friends?"
"Why?"
"You don't seem the type to be friends with that kind of geek, apologies for the insult," he said with a raised brow, "so tell me. How are you friends? Is it by duty?"
"No. He's...it just happened," you tried to stammer through an explanation, though he had a point. How had you become friends? "In any case, does that even matter?"
That was when Changbin grinned at you, "wanna be my friend?"
You stared blankly at him, "what?"
"You wanna be my friend and help me out with my artwork?"
Considering that he would probably combust and drag you along with him if you failed to agree, you were quick to abide by his suggestion, setting up a meeting at the studio a few days later when he'd be safe and sound from the nurse.
You even prepared the materials in advance, setting up all the colours and preparing the screen so that Changbin wouldn't have to wait for it to dry to expose his design.
Your phone vibrated and you quickly pulled it out, frowning when Jungkook's name flashed across the screen.
"Hello?"
"Hello Y/N. Where are you?"
"Uh, at school. Why?"
"I bought chocolate donuts."
Your heart melted slightly, "I'm in the art lab."
Which was where Jungkook found you a few minutes later as he walked through the door, donuts in hand and looking as geeky as ever with a crisp white shirt tucked into light jeans.
"Why are you here?" He frowned, "You're already done with your artwork."
Changbin walked in from the exposure room right at that very instant, his face turning sour as soon as he caught sight of the dark-haired man, "what the fuck are you doing here?" He growled.
"I'm here to give some donuts to--"
"To you!" You grabbed the donut box from Jungkook before thrusting it in Changbin's face, "hos way of saying sorry about your broken screen."
"Actually, these donuts were for yo--"
"He just feels so bad about you having to do your artwork all over again, right Jungkook?" You throw him a pointed look, which caused Jungkook's brows to furrow in even more confusion as Changbin's dark eyes flickered between the two of you, not quite sure what to make of the situation.
It took a moment for Jungkook to mutter out a, "sure."
"I'd feel a whole lot better if you got out of my face," Changbin scowled at him then, and you quickly scurried in front of your friend with hands held up in a defensive manner.
Jungkook turned to you, "do you have to help him, Y/N? He doesn't seem to be very friendly to me--"
"You little shi--"
"Alright alright boys!” You flailed your arms around wildly in hopes that would deter any kind of fight, “I told you, Jungkook doesn’t know how to show his affection and gratefulness to other people. Don’t take it badly, Changbin, let’s just— “
“Statistically speaking, you shouldn’t hang out with people with violent tendencies. It’s dangerous,” Jungkook stated bluntly.
You threw him the angriest glare you could muster, causing the said man’s eyes to dart away. He couldn’t recognize social cues, but he did know for a fact what your angry face looked like. So he didn't fight when you pushed him out of the door while excusing yourself with Changbin and it was only when you were safely away from prying ears that you tried talking some sense into your friend.
"Don't mess with this, okay? I got it." You said in what you hoped was a convincing tone, "just go home and finish your homework. We have that art history essay due tomorrow."
Jungkook stared you down behind his glasses, "but Changbin is--"
"No it's fine, just go home. Everything will be fine if you go home."
"What if he hits you?"
"He won't."
"You will call me if he does?"
"Yes. I promise I will."
That seemed to satisfy Jungkook and you quickly propelled him out of the building before ushering back inside the lab just in time to catch Changbin doing his screenprint.
"Got rid of that loser yet?" His smirk was infuriating. It made you want to slap it off his face.
"Shut up and let me help you," you responded, rolling your eyes as you went to assist him. In truth, you were just secretly glad they didn't tear each other's throats out.
Not everyone understood Jungkook, and while that was fine, you just felt as though you were responsible for protecting him.
It was almost midnight when you finished cleaning up the studio and packed up all the tools and materials, that was when Changbin suggested you get something to eat. Deciding that your stomach was a priority, you agreed and settled at one of the small cheap restaurants that sold hot noodle soup, one of the rare finds open 24/7.
"Why're you friends with that guy?"
You glanced up from your soup, "you asked me that before, Changbin."
He took a sip of his, other hand fumbling with his chopsticks to gather some noodles, “and I’m asking you again. Why are you friends?” He took a bite of his noodles and grumbled appreciatively, “you like him or something?”
“That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard coming out of your mouth,” you snorted as you slurped your noodles and chewed on the warmth that seeped into your chest. Noodles always tasted better in cold weather.
“Well he likes you.”
You almost choked on your noodles, “wha— where are you getting all this false information.”
“It’s written all over his face, Y/N,” Changbin rolled his eyes, “he wouldn’t be bringing you donuts if that were the case.”
“You’re wrong. He’s just kind. He always was,” the thought of you and Jungkook being together suddenly flashed before your eyes and heat flushed through your cheeks at the thought. He was your friend, he was the closest thing to home that you had now that you were in university, so it was just natural for you to gravitate towards the familiar.
“Bullshit. You don’t see the way he looks at you.”
“He doesn’t look at me like anything.”
Changbin merely chuckled, shaking his head before finishing his soup in silence. You were glad that he dropped it, knowing full well that you wouldn’t have been able to take it if he’d continuously found arguments to support his hypothesis. Jungkook couldn’t like you…could he? He was…odd and not the kind of man to look for things like relationships.
Then again, you’d never actually asked Jungkook how he felt about girls. Or relationships for that matter.
Which was why you had planned to corner him after your English lecture, rushing to the end of the corridor where you knew Jungkook had his design class with your bag barely closed and books clutched to your chest, only to find the said man wrapped up in an animated conversation with a stranger you’d never seen before.
The girl was beautiful. That was a given, with long glossy curls that fell to her waist and dyed light blonde, giving her the appearance of a fairy. She was wearing a pastel blue coat decked with white pants and boots to match, the perfect fashion icon for many, slightly smaller than you were so that her head had to tilt back every time she spoke to him.
You were about to swivel around — since they seemed to be in deep discussion — when Jungkook spotted you. His brown eyes lit up from behind his spectacles (it was kinda cute) and he grinned, dimple showing.
“Y/N,” he called your name and you had no other choice than to walk over, flashing him a weak smile, “this is Lee Sara. She’s in my design class. She’s also going to be an architect.”
“Hi,” Sara smiled. She was beautiful, “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Hi, nice to meet you,” you smiled back, eyes darting between the two before settling on Jungkook’s, “you ready to go?”
“Actually, Sara and I are going to get some boba,” Jungkook said.
“Oh,” you tried to hide the surprise on your face, “right. Uhm… I’ll see you later then.”
“Do you want to join us?” Sara asked kindly.
Jungkook was already turning away by then, probably too excited to get his drink to think about your feelings. He stopped mid-way, looked back at you, only to see you shake your head.
“I’m okay,” you smiled slightly, “see you two later. I gotta head to the library to study.”
Maybe it was the fact that Jungkook never used to socialize with girls before or that you never noticed, but you couldn’t help but feel slightly disoriented at the sudden switch in the situation, causing Changbin’s earlier words to resonate through your brain. Did Jungkook actually have romantic intentions towards girls.
Did he feel attracted to them? It had never crossed your mind before, but now that Changbin had it labeled as an option, it was as if you couldn’t get the thought out of your head.
And it wasn’t just a one-time occurrence. A few days later you found him cooped up in the library with Sara at his side as they studied the mathematical equations of buildings and helped each other out with their projects. You had joined for a bit, only to feel a bit left out by the conversation and thus opted out early in favour of escaping the rising awkwardness. Not that Jungkook noticed, he never noticed anything.
“Maybe you’re right.” You’d grumbled to Changbin during your art lab a few days later. You had arrived early to class, coffee still steaming in hand, to find the said young man already sitting inside with his final artwork labeled and ready to be submitted on the table.
He looked at you, an eyebrow raising in curiosity, “I’m right about many things,” a smirk graced his face, “do tell.”
“About Jungkook liking girls.”
“No. I said he liked you, that’s a different—“
“It doesn’t matter,” you cut him off, “he doesn’t like me. But he’s—I just realized that maybe he does want a girlfriend. Maybe.”
“What made you say that?”
“He’s been hanging out a lot with a classmate lately,” you shrugged, “it’s just—it feels weird. He never used to be so…social.”
“Good riddance,” Changbin’s smirk grew, which made you throw your pen at his head. It hit him straight on the forehead, “ow! Watch it, woman.”
It was for the best. Really, truly, that Jungkook was expanding his horizons and talking to new people. He couldn’t be in your shadow forever, after all. That was what you kept on repeating yourself as the thoughts replayed through your brain again and again and again. The realization was tough, but change was good. Right?
Change was needed.
And maybe you should change too.
———
"Pigs aren't cute. They bathe in mud and carry numerous bacteria and and these bacteria are transferred to humans."
"Pigs are cute!" You gasped, shoving your phone in Jungkook's face to show him an image of said animal, "look at their babies! They're so fluffy and like tiny and small--"
He pushed your hand away in disgust, "you have weird taste in cutness."
"They're this ugly pink but overall they're quite charming, don't you think?" You giggled as you keptbswiping for photo after photo, "oh gosh, look at this one! He has a bow on his head."
“Y/N you have a weird definition of cute.”
You chuckled, “and you are weird, full stop.”
A few days had passed ever since your encounter with Sara and you hadn’t mentioned anything about the said girl since, thinking that it was probably for the best. And plus, Jungkook had the complete right to do whatever he wanted with his life. Yup. You weren’t there to stop him from talking to a pretty girl.
Maybe you should worry about yourself instead, and try not to focus too much on how it was getting harder and harder to get Jungkook’s attention these days.
Not that anything had changed. You still went on your library study sessions and bought boba together after every art history lecture. You still ate friend chicken and pizza while streaming your favorite movie — the same one that Jungkook asked for every week — and you still hung out with each other as though everything was normal.
But you knew it was far from it, something that your social circle of friends also pointed out during one particular lunchtime.
“He’s so peculiar. How do you hang out with him?” asked your good friend Yoona. You had met her during orientation and the two of you had hung out together quite often ever since. She’d even tagged along to some of your famous movie night Fridays, “I mean, not to sound rude but he’s like the kind of guy you’d find in Internet cafes.”
“He’s not all that bad. You just don’t know him well,” you argued as you took a sip of your iced tea.
“Don’t you think he has a crush on you, Y/N?” Another friend, Jimin, asked. He was busy unwrapping his sandwich and flicked his fringe out of his eyes, cocking his head in a way that made you feel a little self-conscious.
Yoona chortled, “no way. I don’t see it. Although…when you think about it, it would make sense why they would end up together.”
“Right?” Jimin added, “it’s clear as day that you guys have feelings for each oth—“
“Bullshit,” you laughed, “I don’t know why you keep mentioning that. And plus, he’s hanging out with this new girl these days.”
“New girl? Who?” Yoona frowned.
“Her name’s Sara Lee. Heard of her before?”
“Oh,” Jimin straightens, “the pretty girl from architecture right? I think everyone’s heard of her. She’s like an influencer or something.”
“Well you know, if you dress up Jungkook nicely…” Yoona trailed off in thought, “I think he has potential.”
“You think? Girl, the ladies in my course have been eyeing him since the start of the new semester. That’s old news,” Jimin rolled his eyes as you stared them down, eyes darting from one face to another as the new information sunk in.
“Wait—“ you interrupted their flow of conversation, “are you—are you actually serious? Jungkook? Potential? What—“
“I’m surprised you haven’t seen it yet, Y/N,” Yoona said as she slurped down her drink, “I mean— this boy just has wardrobe issues. Nothing that a little bit of fixing can’t solve.”
Contrary to your friends, you had never actually thought of Jungkook— seen of him in this light. Which was why you decided to stare him down in your art history lecture right after lunch, cocking your head this way and that as you examined the angles of his face.
In truth, they were right. Jungkook did have potential to be handsome. Because even with those round glasses and that horrible side part of his, you could still catch a glimpse of his jaw line. His build was hidden, but yet still there underneath the curve of his shoulders. His back was broad, that you were sure of and you couldn’t help imagining how he would look like in a v-neck shirt—
Stop. Your slammed down on your thoughts like car brakes. This was Jungkook, for god’s sake. You’d known him as the annoying classmate in high school, the quirky friend who never wore sweaters or casual wear and was always decked in formal attire. This wasn’t about to change now.
“Y/N, you’ve been staring me down since the start of class and it’s starting to creep me out.”
Jungkook’s voice dragged you back to reality. You blinked, catching his eyes as warmth suddenly flushed through the back of your neck.
“Uh—yeah sorry. Was just lost in thought.” Lies. You were definitely checking him out. You wondered whether he actually knew what that word meant. You were just glad he wasn’t the best at reading physical body language or expressions for that matter.
“Can I ask you a question?” You asked suddenly.
He looked hesitant, but nodded.
“What do you think of Sara?”
“What do I think of Sara?” You watched his eyebrows pull into a frown, “I don’t think I understand this question, Y/N.”
“I mean—do you find Sara attractive? Like as a girl?”
Jungkook was silent for a long moment and though you were usually the best at reading him, the expression on his face was one that you couldn’t decipher.
It made your stomach curl with unease.
And when he finally spoke, you swore your stomach twisted in on itself.
“Sara is pretty.”
Your throat suddenly felt dry. You swallowed thickly, bit down onto your lower lip and tried to wonder what the fuck was wrong with you. It wasn’t like you liked Jungkook…right? Right?
“Would you date her?” You asked.
“I have not thought of it. But yes, she is, by every man’s standards, a very good candidate for a girlfriend.”
Ah. So he did know what it meant after all.
“But would you date her?”
“Probably. Yes.” He looked at you then, tilting his head to the side as though trying to decode what was going on inside that head of yours, “why do you ask?”
“Oh, nothing. No reason.” You tried to smile, lips lifting slightly at the corners in hopes that it would fool him.
It did. Without him knowing that somewhere along the seam of your heart was a small hole that ripped apart its seams.

Cold. Cold. Cold. Just like Cage the Elephant said but in the most literal sense of the phrase. Fucking freezing to be exact and it was all thanks to stupid Jeon Jungkook.
You pushed through the water surface gasping as a puff of cloud appeared in the cold air. You hissed at the cold water, teeth chattering as you swam to the shore all while shouting, “This is the worst fucking idea you’ve ever had!”
“I know!” He has the nerve to laugh as he followed close behind, “But you’re the dumbass who did it with me.”
Fair enough. You ignored him trembling with shivers down your spine as you dragged yourself onto the grassy shore, one hand to your chest and the other concealing your lower privates. Hopefully Jungkook was more occupied by his own slippery run through the grass to check out your completely exposed butt. One can only hope. He sprinted past you covering his own junk as he reached the piles of clothes first.
With your back turned toward him you picked up your undergarments shimmying them on looking for your shorts. You walked further down the grassy lawn in search for your t-shirt still shivering when cold water droplets fell onto your bare back and bra from your hair. Your teeth once again shattering hugging yourself. Jungkook came by next to you, “Where’d you throw it?”
You looked up, more toward the block of trees as something black ran past you. Your jaw dropped as he followed your gaze mimicking you now. A fucking raccoon… it just ran away with your t-shirt. Without another word a shirt was flung at your frozen state and you whipped your head around to your friend.
He was picking up his shoes and socks not bothering to put them on—nor bothering to zip up his jeans that hung loosely on his hipbone exposing the fine hem of Calvin Klein briefs. Alright Mark Wahlburg pack it up.
Still, you slipped his oversized t-shirt on pulling your wet hair through the hole and trying to wring water out as you both began walking back to the deck filled with party goers cheering you both on.
“You guys are fucking crazy!” Jimin laughed loudly pulling you both in for a hug, “It was cold, wasn’t it?”
“Freezing,” you trembled walking past him toward the table of alcohol hoping to find something that’ll burn your throat enough to warm you up.
“Holy shit it’s Dumb and Dumber with you two. I didn’t think you’d actually do it,” Taehyung came to you pouring the drink for you himself, “How’d he even convince you?”
“Homemade dinner every night for a week,” you told him simply making him laugh. “You drive a hard bargain.”
It really was that easy. You had already been slightly drunk and Jungkook was too. So when he started standing on a table claiming he had the best idea in the entire world that’d be so damn fun and exciting. He really did manage to have everyone’s attention until the words skinny dipping left his stupid lips. Everyone told him off saying the water was too cold but no, apparently a hoe never gets cold so he wouldn’t feel shit. Then everyone was yelling at him to do it by himself then but in pure stage fright he immediately looked to you begging you to do it with him even as you shielded your face away acting like you didn’t know him.
But he made the ultimate offer, making you dinner for a week straight, home cooked meals, and well you simply couldn’t refuse. Living off ramen had certainly been exhausting and who were you to turn down your friend’s offer to make you something worthwhile? So for obvious reasons, you succumbed to it and followed him across the lawn shredding articles of clothing running straight toward the freezing lake.
“Hey, you can crash here if you want just don’t tell everyone. I don’t want randoms asking to sleep here,” Jimin said to you later on once the buzz died down a bit. You only nodded continuing your one man game or jenga hidden away in the living room while everyone else was outside. You’re currently ending your wonderful spring break at Jimin’s lake house—or well his parent’s lake house. They let him use it this weekend and in pure college boy fashion, he threw a rager. Thankfully for you, you were close enough friends with Jimin that you wouldn’t be one of the ones kicked out at the end of the night back to the forty minute drive to Seoul. You’d just go home tomorrow morning with one of the guys or girls you knew.
Jimin let you have one of the guest bedrooms, it also gave you a good escape when the party was still going but you were tired. The plunge into cold lake water really tires a bitch out. So, you did what a sensible person would do, and immediately plopped down on the Queen sized bed going on your phone to start your pre-bedtime routine.
Of course you just had to fall asleep like that, completely slumped, phone still in hand and definitely not connected to your charger. But the constant replay of some tiktok wasn’t enough to wake up, the constant smacking on your shoulder and whisper of your name was by far enough. It even jolted your ‘fight or flight’ instincts, a hand immediately sticking out to swipe at the monster your mind conjured up.
“Ow, you bitch!” Jungkook hissed hand on his thigh feeling the burn of the smack that almost knocked him down. Your eyes propped open, no monster, just Jungkook. You groaned pulling the blanket off your face, “What the fuck is wrong with you? You don’t sneak on a bitch while she’s sleeping.”
“You left the door unlocked dumbass,” Jungkook huffed still leaning over you in the dark, “And I’m trying to sleep here so scoot over.”
You didn’t budge, refusing to move for him, hell if anything you just spread yourself out even more. You buried your face back into your pillow proving your point even further but it went over his head. He didn’t care, if not just felt challenged. So, he did what any sensible person would do, and pushed your leg over to your other one and rolled you onto one side so he could shimmy himself under the covers. “What the fuck! Go sleep on the couch or something, you move too much in your sleep!” You whined, half asleep and definitely delirious as you began to shove him but the boy did not budge.
“Fuck no, I got stuck with the couch and hoes won’t leave. Now go to sleep before I puke on you.”
“What?”
“I don’t know I’m drunk, go to sleep.”
Jeon Jungkook, your dear old friend.
It was your third bowl of food, Jungkook really did serve up some good ass food. Take it from you and Jimin who were both currently eating it all up while Jungkook glared at you two. Jimin just smiled between mouthfuls, “I’m gonna come over all week.”
That made Jungkook grumble, “No you’re not. I didn’t agree to make you any food.”
You rolled your eyes deciding to poke the bear some more as you turned to Jimin, “Ignore my chef, you can come over.”
Jungkook opened his mouth to argue when his phone buzzed. You reached for it as he rounded the kitchen to where you sat at the counter, “New message from peach emoji, original.”
He snagged his phone back, “I forgot her name, let me see.” His brows lifted, ooo an ass pic with a simple ‘come over’ attached to well. Well shucks, don’t mind if he does. He smirked looking around for his hoodie and keys, “Gotta go, business calls.”
“More like ass calls,” Jimin said more to you making you laugh as Jungkook picked up his things looking back to you, “You know how to clean, right?”
With a roll of your eyes you shook your head, “No. Why don’t you show me how to wash the dishes?” You pointed to the filled sink and he pursed his lips rolling his own eyes in clear lack of amusement before throwing up a piece sign, “Deuces.”
“Speaking of dicks…” Jimin trailed off completely ignoring your confused face, what the fuck? He went on, “When’s the last time you caught some?”
“I’ve sworn celibacy,” you told him lifting a hand in tribute, “I will wait until a worthy opponent comes along.”
“Right…” he side eyed you, “So you’re in a dry spell? That’s no good, we gotta fix that
“When you introduce me to a guy who can last more than three minutes and actually makes me cum then we can talk about lifting it, till then I’m not having sex,” you told him.
“Don’t challenge me because I will take the bait,” he teased, “But okay, so you’ve had some lousy fucks and you’ve sworn off sex?”
“Not really, just put a pause on it. It’s been like two weeks now,” you shrugged finishing up the last of your food carrying your plate over to the sink pile, still ignoring it. “These college dudes aren’t anything but shit in bed and I’m tired of it.”
“I can introduce you to someone,” Jimin shrugged, “Now I wouldn’t know personally, but from what I’ve heard he’s pretty great in bed.”
“Right…” it was your turn to side eye him with narrowed eyes, “I don’t judge your tastes but I also don’t pass around between friends.”
“Bitch! I said it’s what I’ve heard,” Jimin rolled his eyes, “He’s a coworker of mine, hopeless romantic, but if what my friend Mina says, he’s good in bed too. Want me to introduce him to you?”
“Eh,” you shrugged, “I’m not really stressed on finding someone to hook up with but thanks for the offer.”
The conversation drifted away to some other shit as Jimin hung around your places scrolling to Netflix movie choices. You see, you met Jimin first from the group. You met at a party when he accidentally tripped over you when you were bent down petting the host’s dog and he apologized for it a gajillion times. He also took you under his wing introducing you to other people and refusing to let you go back to the Husky you’d been petting after finding out your friends ditched you.
Through him you met Taehyung and Hoseok too, even Jungkook. And funny enough, you ended up closest with Jungkook. Of course there’s still some things you’d feel more comfortable telling Jimin something or vise versa where you’d prefer talking to Jungkook instead, but they were up there on your friends list. Considering they both had obnoxious roommates they spent most of their time at your place when they weren’t busy with something else. You didn’t mind though, except for the times you had to quite literally send them home.
With neither of them could you say you were just friends. Jimin was a die hard flirt and Jungkook a fuckboy so there’s definitely been a round of drunk make outs here and there, hell, sometimes with Taehyung too. What can you say? You’re a drunk kisser. You all met in college and considering you were all from out of town with no friends in the city it was pretty easy to gang up. You wouldn’t change that for the world. You trusted the boys and a few girls with all your heart and they kept their word as true friends no matter how annoying they were.
So on Monday when spring break was over and class started again you could only hope someone you knew was hanging around in one of your classes—unlikely since you had different majors—but hopeful.
“Scoot over,” Jungkook told you once in the lecture hall. You looked up at him with relief but shook your head no, “I want the end seat. Easy escape.” You pointed down the clear path to the door and he grumbled. He lifted the end of your chair picking it up to push you in as he walked behind you to the empty seat next to you.
“I didn’t know you needed this extra credit too,” he referred to your psych class you were currently in, an extra credit indeed. You just shrugged in response scrolling away on Instagram mindlessly filling in with conversation, “How was Princess Peach?”
“Peachy,” this time he shrugged, “How’s the whole ‘nun’ thing working out for you?”
You smiled bitterly. Of course all the horn dog friends of yours would think it’s weird you’re purposely not having sex, “Going great but Jimin keeps trying to get me to hook up with his coworker.”
“Why?” He chuckled taking out his notebook smirking briefly to the girls who filled his other side in their seats.
“Something about his amazing bedroom skills, might just take up the offer,” once again you brushed it off like it was a casual conversation. Jungkook just nodded clearing his throat a little, “Already thinking about giving in?”
“Yeah,” you said shamelessly, “He comes with good recommendations, I simply cannot refuse.”
The class went on like usual, just a brief introduction to the term and then boom, onto the first learning unit. You ignored Jungkook throughout the hour and a half jotting down notes even as he poked your side with the end of his pencil.
He looked back to you, eraser pushing into the soft flesh of your thigh repeatedly and when you didn’t look at him. When that didn’t work he moved in to digging around in your pencil pouch arranging your things out on the table. He looked to you to see if you’d finally given him attention but nope. So, he moved his hand to the back of your neck, a few strands of hair in hold and tugging on it.
Finally, you brought your hand back over his pinching the skin of his knuckles until he winced in pain and withdrew his hand, holding it in his other glaring down at you, “Ow.”
By the end of class you were gathering your things up already ready to head out when you looked over to Jungkook. He was currently flirting with the two girls who sat next to him, asking if they could go to him with any questions in class. As if he could help, it made you laugh, literally.
He turned back to you, “What’s so funny?”
“Your face,” you stick your tongue out at him swinging your bag onto your shoulders and walking away. Jungkook waved goodbye to the two girls as he ran out of the classroom after you, a hand on your waist tugging you back into him, “You’ve got attitude today.”
You just shrugged your shoulders, you didn’t think you did. If anything Jungkook is just annoyed you didn’t give him any attention in class right now. He smiled, “You’re jealous, aren’t you?”
“Huh?” You whipped around to face him, brows scrunched together, “Of what?”
“Of all the chicks around me. You’re jealous, just say it,” Jungkook smirked hitting his arm against yours, “It’s okay honey bunny. You already know you’re first in my heart.”
“Jungkook I don’t care who is around you,” you rolled your eyes. He smiled, “Sure you don’t. Look, say the word and I drop them all.”
“What word?” You asked walking through the court yard to your next class, Jungkook hot on your trail. He smirked knowing he would soon be getting on your nerves, “Fuck. That you wanna fuck me.”
Your jaw dropped as you stopped for a second to stare at him in disbelief, “You’re disgusting. Now leave me alone I gotta get to class.”
He huffed pulling you back into him wrapping his arms around you so you couldn’t escape. He lifted you off the ground making your cheeks flush red in embarrassment as other began to stare at you two. He didn’t care though, hoisting you up over a trash bin, “Say that I’m disgusting again, I dare you.”
“You’re disg-ahh!” You clawed at his neck curling yourself into him as he moved you closer to the bin filled with god know’s what. He laughed at the way you cling to him like a koala, “Say that I’m the hottest, bestest friend you’ve ever had.”
“I have to get to class!” You groaned tightening your legs around him. He smirked mischievously, one arm wrapping around your waist keeping you in place instead of prying you off as he took a step away from the trash bin. You were definitely getting weird stares now but he simply did not care, “You’re cute when you’re mad honey bunny.”
“Uh… is this a bad time?” Hoseok’s brows furrowed as he slowly came to a stop. Jungkook set you down and you sprinted toward Hoseok, “Thank God you’re here. Something is seriously wrong with Jungkook.”
“I bet, what’s your next class?”
You showed him your schedule and he nodded. Jungkook retreated, “I’ve got a tattoo appointment later and then I’ll come over for dinner. Unless you wanna come.”
“I’ll go with you,” you shrugged letting Hoseok’s arm wrap around your shoulders, “I don’t have bus fare anyway.”
“Alright meet me at the gate after your last class.”
So you did, you met up with him again at 3:30 and he walked with you to the parking lot. His appointment was at 4:00 and you two barely made it in time. When you did finally get in he led you over to a couple chairs in the front tucked away from the actual tattooing, “Wait here. It shouldn’t take long he’s just coloring some in.”
You didn’t answer back sitting in the chair he directed you to and immediately slipped on your AirPods tuning him out. He headed over to where his tattoo artist was settled and left you alone. Throughout the time of his tattoos being colored in. Namjoon attempted at small conversation, “That your girl? She’s cute.”
Jungkook had been aimlessly typing away on his phone with his one free hand to even notice Namjoon was talking to him. Obviously he had no girl so he knew for a damn fact that Namjoon wasn’t talking to him. Still, being the nosy type he looked up and around in search for whoever Namjoon was talking, “What? Who?”
Namjoon nodded toward you, “Her. Pretty girl sitting over there. She’s been waiting for a while.” Jungkook finally got a good look at you again, shaking his head, “Nah she’s a friend. Best friend. My dear friend.”
“Alright I get it, she’s a friend,” Namjoon smirked as he went on again.
By the time he got done the Sun had set. He was wrapped up in plastic and sent off after paying to get you. Somehow, you managed to fall asleep, head fallen forward slumped down between your shoulders. Rolling his eyes he flicked your forehead, a jolt shooting through you as your body jumped up. He smiled in triumph in scaring you and motioning toward the door with his head, “Let’s go Stink. I’m hungry.”
“I’m starving,” you yawned stretching your arms out as you stood following him out the door that he held open for you. Once in his car you immediately knocked the seat back not bothering with a seatbelt. Jungkook reached over you tying you in himself letting you flip onto your side and fold your arm under your head as a pillow. He kept the music off, tapping away at the steering wheel to block off the silence. All that was hear was the tapping and light snores. He smiled a little getting his phone out and going to camera. He snapped a picture letting the light adjust switching his gaze from the road to his phone.
Then, Jungkook moved to video pushing the small red circle keeping it up in your face to capture the sound of your snores. He was so gonna make fun of you for this later. When he pulled up to your house he woke you and made dinner, Jimin coming over to feast.
The first week flew past in a rush, and with the first week of second term complete you were in need of a drink. Luckily for you, college kids all share one brain cell when it comes to plans for the weekend so multiple parties were always on tow. Hence why you were currently riding with Taehyung and Jimin to one.
You were already a little tipsy from the pregame at Taehyung’s but you planned on getting more than just buzzed tonight. You don’t know if it’s because of the lack of sex but lately you’ve just felt drained. Or tense, a little moody too? You’re not sure ask Jimin he’s the one who’s been complaining.
So, the second you did finally arrive at the rando’s apartment you went straight for the liquor counter. You checked cups and bottles, smelling some of the sodas and making some concoction for yourself. Jimin and Taehyung were already off doing their own thing but to be fair you practically ran away to the kitchen. A hand came down softly on your back, close enough to whisper in your ear, “Thank God you’re here.”
You looked to your classmate, Soomin, recognizing a face in the crowd of strangers from campus. She sighed, “My friends ditched me, mind if I hang with you for a few?”
You shrugged it off smiling as you shower your drink, “Want some?” “Sure.” Now, you’ve only just met Soomin this week in your Psych class. She was nice and kinda funny so you didn’t mind hanging with her a bit. Sometime you felt like you needed more girl friends anyway, you can’t just rely on the guys.
You mostly sat on one of the only couches around talking about anything that came to mind, the conversation changing every couple minutes when something new catches your interests. You had practically forgotten about the two dudes who brought you knowing they’d be off somewhere flirting or playing some drinking game. That’s what you thought, but loud slamming erupted from outside that hinted at maybe their attention being out there. You and Soomin shared a look, a mutual understanding as you both stood too nosy not go check it out and went out.
Outside you weren’t surprised in the slightest to find Jungkook there, some guy yelling in his face and a beer pong table knocked on its side. Great, Jungkook is going to get in another fight. When did he get here anyway?
“Listen man I didn’t know she had a boyfriend, and it was like a month ago,” Jungkook said holding his hands up in surrender. Jimin and Taehyung were behind him assessing the situation, probably trying to figure out if they needed to step in or not. You stood to the side with Soomin trying to hear their argument.
Their talking was muffled but you can tell Jungkook was trying not to blow off. He probably really didn’t know that whatever girl he slept with had a boyfriend. Jungkook had a tendency to get hot heated when drunk and usually he wouldn’t back down from a fight when someone accused him of something—but tonight he looked genuine. He really was trying to restrain himself for letting his voice raise and his anger deep through. You couldn’t see the clearly, just the motion of the guy’s hand coming toward Jungkook.
Then, a splashing sound followed by some gasps. The guy shoved Jungkook in the pool. This time the crowd did press forward, closer to the scene and you were able to cut through. Taehyung was reaching out his hand to a now drenched Jungkook as he ignored it hauling himself over the ledge. The spring night was chilly and with wet clothes he was shivering, instantly tugging the soaked shirt off so he wouldn’t freeze. You turned to Soomin, “I’m gonna see if he’s okay.”
She just nodded letting you go off toward him. You approached just as he was standing to his feet shaking some water out of his hair as he crumpled his dripping shirt in his hand, ignoring everyone’s concerns. Mmm, maybe you should just give him some space in case he’s mad.
Nah. “Went night swimming without me?” You teased knowing it’d annoy him, which it did. He glared over at you but came to a stop waiting for you to catch up to him, “I didn’t know you were here.”
You ignored him walking with him toward the sliding doors to inside, “You gonna go beat that guy up?”
“Nah, he’s drunk and mad his girl cheated on him,” he shrugged it off cutting through the crowd straight for the front door, “But I for real did not know she was taken. You know I’m not a home wrecker.”
This time you shrugged, not fully believing him but not questioning it either. You looked at the front door, “So you leaving?”
He shook his head, “I’m gonna go change and then come get drunk. Wanna come with?” So you followed him down to the parking lot waiting in his car as he rummaged through his gym bag pulling out a fresh set of clothes and changing outside, not caring if he was hot or not. Your curiousity was eating at you so you couldn’t help but ask, “Was it Peach?”
“No, some chick named Jia,” he said switching his socks now in the backseat and slipping on his work out shoes, some worn out converse. He wore sweats now with a black crew neck sweater.
“Let’s go,” he took your hand dragging you upstairs again, and unlike Taehyung and Jimin, he didn’t let you run off on him. You looked around for Soomin unable to find her as Jungkook poured some drinks for you, “Wanna dance?”
She must’ve left or something so you nodded already walking off expecting him to follow. And no, you did not do any grinding or twerking—not at first anyway, if anything it was just fun. Jungkook pretended to be a mime trying to embarrass you as he broke free from a box or the robot, Krumping around you, anything really.
“Stop!” You whined pushing at his chest as he tried to keep a serious face doing vogue hands around your face as he circled around you. He laughed now ignoring the weird states he received, he was Jeon Jungkook after all. One of the most popular guys on campus without a single fuck to give. And a lot of people got bored of it pretty soon and he was able to act stupid with you more freely.
As the upbeat song ended and a slower one came on you actually started to move a little instead of just laughing at Jungkook. It was one of your favorites, the kind that makes you dance in front of your mirror at midnight just to see how you’d look doing it. Jungkook smiled finally getting you moving a little bit and he copied your rhythm reaching for your wrist and pulling you into him. You both stood face to face still laughing a little singing along to the lyrics as the hand that held your wrist lifted turning you around.
With his arm now around you he used it to push you back into his chest and you being lost in the moment melted against him, hips finding position and fitting together like a puzzle. His other hand found purchase on your hip, finding rhythm with you as you practically grinded back against him. Your head leaned back on his shoulder singing along as he closed you in with his arms tracing your sides pushing his face into the curve of your neck singing.
It was getting hot, his warm body practically molding into your backside and his hands caressing you, fingers tugging on the end of your shorts and shirt every now and then making them rise. You didn’t even question it when he dragged you away when the song ended, pulling you into one of the rooms sitting down on the couch by the window instead of the bed.
“Your hair’s still wet,” you slumped back into the couch letting your hand run through his damp hair. He leaned into your touch smiling a little, “Got what I deserved I guess.”
You laughed swinging your legs onto the couch, Jungkook reached for them setting them down on his lap, fingers tapping on your shins like a drum. You looked at the window behind you, city lights illuminating your view and for a second you were able to blur out the music from the party just outside the room. You sighed, “You gotta be more careful.”
“Hm,” he threw his head back and to the side looking over at you, a hand sliding toward your knee, holding your legs on him, “I swear I didn’t know she had a man. She wasn’t acting like she did.”
“Still,” you shrugged. He sighed, “I don’t purposely go for chicks with boyfriends. If they’re flirting with me and throwing themselves at me I just assume they’re single… or easy.”
“You always have liked your easy ones,” you teased a little but it fell short when he shook his head. “Easy is boring.”
“I mean you’re easy too,” you told him playing with the black ring on his pinky. He nodded, not bothering to argue sliding his hand up your thigh and lifting his finger for you to pull the ring off. It was big, you swirled it around on the tip of your index finger. He leaned closer sliding the ring down until it sat at the hilt, a small gap from the size of it. His hand stayed on yours for a second looking up at you.
Your legs were still over his lap, his other hand on your thigh now as he held your hand. His eyes went down to your lips for a second, a blur of thoughts racing through his head all about how soft you were. So, he did what he did best, and went for it.
You watched Jungkook leaning over you, jaw protruding stretching his neck as he brushed his lips against yours. You flinched back for a second making him halt, but one look at his parted lips and you were leaning back into him. His lips parted against yours, a slight huff of breath escaping as he used the hand holding yours inside it to pull you forward applying more pressure to the kiss.
His head tilted to the side, hand sliding to the back of your neck knotted in your head as he deepened the kiss. Hot breath pushing against yours his tongue trailing your bottom lip, coaxing you as he twirled his finger with the hair on your nape.
Tongues meet, his circles around twice before retreating to allow him to close his lips on your bottom pouty lip. A soft suction followed by graze of teeth causes you to pull back a little. With his other hand still on your thigh he slid it under you until you got the hint and scooted over his lap.The arm now around your waist anchors you against his lap, your slow-rolling hips the only movement allowed. A sharp nip at your bottom lip and you gasp. He seizes the chance to roll his tongue along with yours. The sealed lips holding his groan in when your hips push down particularly hard against his growing member. Your hair falling down around you two blocking you from the outside world as you cupped his cheek.
He shifts his head to the side, noses rubbing against one another. The cold metal of his piercing hitting your lip but it was easy to ignore. Jungkook’s sole focus was on your lips, fingers digging into your waist at his growing desire. He pushes air out his nose before swiping his tongue along your mouth once more, capturing your lips over and over in frenzy trying to turn you on his lap so you straddled him instead but you didn’t budge.
You pull away desperate for breath and a moment to catch your bearings at his unrelenting attention. His lips twitch seeing the soft pink on your lips and around your mouth, lip piercing rubbing your skin. Dipping his head down, he trails kisses along your jaw down your neck sucking flesh, the need to mark you primal. A beep sounded behind your back causing something in the deep recesses of your mind telling you to pay attention. Jungkook ignored it, hand sliding under your chin trying to turn your attention back on him so his lips could kiss yours again. You almost ignored your phone, until it buzzed in your butt pocket drawing you away once again.
You slid off his lap taking the phone and answering, “Hey.”
“Where you at? Jimin’s gone off with some chick and I’m trying to go home,” Taehyung yelled over the loud music, “Am I still dropping you off?”
You were panting slightly looking over to Jungkook as he leaned over you trying to pull you back to him when you lifted a hand to stop him. What were you even doing right now?
“Helloooooooo, you there?” You stood up, clearing your throat letting Jungkook stumble into your side of the couch looking over to you as you pushed your hair behind your ear, “Yes, I’m going. I’ll be right out. Just give me a second.” With that he hung up.
“You’re leaving?” Jungkook asked, confusion evident on his face as he went to stand up, “I’ll take you home.”
“N-no, no that’s okay. I’m riding with Taehyung,” you told him looking around to see if you left anything behind. He looked at you with furrowed brows reaching out for you but moved away, “See you later?”
“Y/n wai—“
He couldn’t even argue with it when you were already out the door, practically flying out. He sat there for a couple minutes, trying to process what just happened. Sure, you and him would kiss every now and then when you were both super drunk and it was always just a tiny peck here or there. It was never anything like the make out you both just had, and to say neither of you were even that drunk is the crazy part.
He’s not even sure what came over him when he leaned in the first time but after having you up close like that leaning back into him he almost melted at the touch. The last thing on his mind was that it was you, his dear friend that he couldn’t get enough of. And if Taehyung hadn’t called he’s not even sure how far you two would’ve taken it considering how turned on he was getting from just a make out. So turned on that he needed release now.
He came out of the room a little after you ran out on him, the party still in full swing completely unaware of how he just made out with his best friend and liked it. Unaware of how you literally ran away from him when you realized what was going on and it made him need a drink. He wasn’t leaving yet, he had too much on his mind and sitting in the car letting his thoughts take over wouldn’t be good for anyone.
“Jungkook!” A hand reached out to the sleeve of his hoodie capturing his attention, “Hi I’m Soomin, we have class together. I was wondering if you knew where Y/n went? I had to get more alcohol and I can’t find her.”
“She left,” he muttered giving her a once over. Cute, he thought. His eyes went to her lips, thin slightly chapped but not too bad. Definitely didn’t look as soft as yours and he doubted they’d feel as plump biting into them the way yours did. Her hair wasn’t the right length either, nothing for him to run his fingers through like yours bu—Jungkook stop. Forget the kiss, Y/n’s your friend. He chugged the rest of his drink down looking over to her, “Wanna dance?”
You spent the weekend at home, trying not to go out with your friends to give yourself some ‘you’ time. Unfortunately, that meant you were spending a lot of time thinking. Thinking wasn’t too bad until you thought about Jungkook and the text he sent you that you ignored because what in the actual fuck?
Wow, you need to set a reminder to never get drunk with Jungkook and sneak off to a room together ever again. Nothing against the guy but whew, that was definitely something. It was good, really fucking good but he was your friend and you knew him too well to even imagine him thinking about it ever again. That’s just how Jungkook is. He likes to have fun, he likes to experiment and doesn’t really care with who. If he can get his hands on a willing participant he will and this time around it just so happened to be you. And you being just a little tipsy allowed it to happen because he’s your friend and neither one of you ever really take anything serious.
You refuse to catch feelings for your friend—even if he takes care of you and makes you feel special when he carries you out of his car because you’re too tired to walk.
Monday afternoon you got to class a little early, listening to music acting busy for when Jungkook came in. You wanted to see how he’d act. If he’d act like it was no big deal or if he was going to ignore you or what. Soomin came in with a smile when she saw you, taking the seat behind you, “You won’t believe what happened Friday.”
“What happened?” You asked turning around to face her. She sighed happily, “Well, after you had gone off with Jungkook my friends dragged me with to get more alcohol and when I came back I was looking everywhere for you.”
You nodded waiting for her to continue her story telling as she smiled, “Well I found Jungkook later on and he told me you had left so I was super bummed out because I didn’t even get your number. Anyway, Jungkook asked me to dance one thing led to another and we hooked up in one of the bedrooms.”
Freeze. Rewind. Pause. They did what now? You you didn’t say anything for a second. Hold on, the same night you and Jungkook had been making out grinding on each other he decided to go fuck Soomin the second you left? You felt stupid for being surprised, as if he wasn’t the type to pull that sort of Shit. Like come on, you’re his friend, you know what kind of guy he was.
Oh God. He just made out with you until someone else came along. Oh God. You fell for it, you were one of the ‘easy’ ones to him. You’re so stupid.
Soomin noted your silence, “You’re not mad are you?” It snapped you out of your thoughts, laughing a little as you shook your head, “God no. I was just trying to remember what happened on Friday.”
“Okay good, I’m not gonna lie I didn’t even think I was his type,” she chuckled nervously brushing her hair back, “You know, I always figured his type was girls like you. The pretty type, the kind that will do fun things with him even if they’re stupid.
“Shut up,” you rolled your eyes, “You’re the pretty type too. I think you’re his type if that’s what you want.” You excused yourself turning back around in your seat just in time to watch Jungkook walk in, he gave you a shy smile coming over to his seat, “Hey.”
“Hey,” you got your laptop and notebook out watching the professor walk in. He looked back to you, not once glancing back to Soomin. He stalled a bit, getting himself situated looking over to you. You didn’t glance at him, he bit his lip nervously clearing his throat, “So the other night.”
“Shh, lesson is about to start.” You didn’t even look at him. You couldn’t. You were embarrassed, not because of Soomin but because of the kiss. Because of how stupid you were for overthinking it and wondering if it meant something to Jungkook. If he actually had a reason for it or if he was just doing it because it’s what he did. Clearly it meant nothing to him so you followed along, acting like nothing ever happened out of the ordinary.
He tried talking to you throughout but you would just ignore him. So when it ended and you sped out the door he was right there behind you trying to get you to talk to him, “So uh I’ve got another appointment later if you wanna come with. Maybe we can catch a movie after?”
“No thanks I was thinking of calling up Yoongi, haven’t see him in a while.” Okay…
“We’re good, right?” He asked bluntly stopping his pace forcing you to stop too. You chuckled turning back to look at him, “What? Why wouldn’t we be? Because you slept with Soomin?”
His mouth parted in surprise and he took a step forward, “Okay look I can explain—“
“No worries, I’m not mad at all Soomin told me,” you said walking away again, “But she’s a great girl so if you don’t want anything serious just let her down easy.”
“Y/n, please just give me a second—“ he followed after you, a sense of ‘been here done that’ except this time around he didn’t threaten to throw you into a trash. “I’ve gotta go, I’m meeting Hobi in the library.”
Fuck. He knew he was a fucking idiot. The biggest fucking doofus to ever exist. He swears he wasn’t thinking when he hooked up with Soomin. He was just trying to blow off some tension that making out with you did to him. It was shit anyway. He couldn’t even get it fully hard because he kept thinking about you. Okay and you do turn him on but considering the person he had sex with wasn’t actually you he just couldn’t enjoy it.
He let you run off on him shaking his head in regret. You were friends, he knew that, it was probably for the best he didn’t bring up the other night, right?
you | so tell me more about this freak in the sheet
jimin | me or my friend??
jimin | finallyyyyyy
jimin | nun y/n is gone and I’ve been waiting to set y’all up
jimin | his names Jin
Maybe you just needed to get under someone else so you wouldn’t think about Jungkook and how he’d the last guy you almost fucked. And no, you weren’t mad at Jungkook. If anything you were mad at yourself for overthinking the kiss. It’s not surprising at all that he hooked up with someone else at the party, you were just surprised by how surprised you were by it. As if it’s not typical Jungkook behavior. You were the one overthinking the kiss so it’s your job to try and forget it like he had by sleeping with Soomin.
So you didn’t ignore him or anything, you still hung out in groups and it was fine. You both went to Jimin’s the next day acting normal and like the hickey on your neck wasn’t done by Jungkook. You sat across from him during a round of cards and there was a little bit of tension but nothing too awkward.
“Should I invite more people?” Jimin asked you Jungkook and Hobi. Hoseok was all for it, the more the merrier and you didn’t have anything against it either so it was no big deal. He ended up inviting Taehyung, some girls and even Jin. He managed to send you a wink when he invited him hoping to finally introduce you two. You still didn’t understand Jimin’s obsession with trying to get you two to meet but you weren’t going to fret about it either.
“Jin hyung, so good to see you man,” Jimin smiled widely opening the door up to the guy. Immediately you stiffened with nerves acting busy looking over your group of cards trying not to look at Jungkook either. It’s not awkward in a group but when it’s just you two it did feel a little funky. You just wish it’d go back to the way it was before.
“Come sit,” Jimin dragged him over, some people had already gotten here but you didn’t know them enough to greet so you stayed with the ones you knew. Hoseok was the loudest greeting Jin but he didn’t stick around when Taehyung came long and he rather hang out with him instead.
“Jin this is Y/n and that’s Jungkook,” Jimin finished off pointing toward you. You smiled trying to hide how shy you felt, “You’re all Jimin ever talks about. I think he’s got a crush on you.”
“I could say the same for you,” Jin chuckled liking your forwardness, “I thought you two were dating at first.”
Jungkook didn’t look up from his cards but the grip he held them was enough to dent the cards a little. His jaw clenched but he didn’t react strangely, “Well don’t leave me left out.”
He laughed dryly, “What has he said about me?” He looked to Jin waiting for an answer that he knew would be a lie. He knows what Jimin has been trying to do. He’s heard him try and push you to meet his friend Jin.
The first time he was around when it happened he just brushed it off as Jimin talking too much. That maybe he was just excited to make a friend from work and was just trying to introduce him. The second time it happened he only heard about it from you. You told him how you thought Jimin was trying to set you up with his friend. That time he did actually get a little annoyed. Or no, not annoyed, anxious maybe?
This time around that anxiety was even higher than before. At first he thought maybe he was just worried as being pushed aside as a close friend of yours. This time he can’t say if that’s the reason or if it was just the thought of you going out with someone.
Thankfully for him, Jin didn’t stay long. He says he only wanted to swing by and meet his friends [though when he said it he’d only been looking at you] but Jungkook was happy he left. He scooted over to the space next to you on the floor close enough for your shoulders to brush against each other’s. Could things just stop being awkward?
He looked at you waiting to see if you’d stay or go, and when you didn’t move he leaned down resting his head on your shoulder. You didn’t push him off, looking down at him with an expression he couldn’t read, he hated that. He liked being able to tell your mood but lately he’s been struggling. He let out a snore, eyes closed, “I’m tired.”
“Mmm, you should go home then,” you said lightly giving him a response at least. He took his phone out checking the time, “Maybe I should. Need a ride?”
You shrugged leaning your head down over his, “If you can.”
“I will, but hey, wanna see something funny?” He asked suddenly scrolling over to his camera roll looking up to you to make sure you were watching. He had to scroll a little but he found the picture pretty quickly showing it to him. You gasped, “Ew what the fuck. I look disgusting.”
“It’s cute,” he chuckled swiping left and pulling up the video. He pushed the play making sure the volume was up and letting you hear yourself snore. This time, your jaw dropped turning to him, hand smacking his shoulder, “Delete it you fucking weirdo.” He pretended to think about it shaking his head.
“When did you take that?” You asked giving up quick as fuck knowing he won’t delete it even if you begged. He bit back a smile liking how you two were just talking right now like normal, like friends.
“The night you made me carry you to your apartment.”
“I didn’t make you, you offered,” your eyes rolled tilting your head away from him, he was still leaning on your shoulders, knees drawn up to his chest practically cuddling. He decided to keep teasing, “I didn’t offer, you made grabby hands at me and said you couldn’t get up so I picked you up.”
You didn’t say anything to that, remembering it perfectly even when he accidentally smacked your head against the door. He looked at you, waiting for anything, any sign on where you stood. He couldn’t stop himself, “I’m sorry for the other night. The Soomin part.”
He didn’t get a verbal response from you. He’s not sure how to take it but you just leaned your head against his shoulder, hand coming up and showing him the black ring you’d been playing with all night. He smiled planting a kiss on your forehead sticking his hand up and letting you slide it onto his pinky again. He’d been wondering where it went.
Jungkook did end up driving you home and you were both able to forget what happened for at least a while. Jungkook struggled a little more than you did mostly because of the guilt over sleeping with Soomin. If he would’ve just kept his dick in his pants for one night he probably could’ve gone to see you instead. He was clear with Soomin that he wasn’t looking for anything serious and that he’s sorry if he led her on.
He’s even decided to take your route of celibacy for the time being. The last girl he slept with he made the mistake of calling her by your name and obviously that didn’t end well. Aside from being kicked out of her place naked he also had to stop and think what the fuck was going on with him and why he kept thinking about his friend. So, he’s chilling out a bit and trying to ignore what ever growing feelings he might be experiencing. He was coming to realize that he kind of likes you, or maybe that he’s always kind of liked you. It would explain why you’re one of the only girls he was close to that he didn’t ever sleep with.
And listen, you swear this was unintentional and that it just happened. It really did just happen and though you didn’t do anything wrong part of you felt guilty. For reasons unknown to you because once again, you did nothing wrong. But you kept thinking about what Jungkook would think? What he think about you hooking up with Jin a few days after you two officially went back to normal and you returned his ring?
Look, it was gonna happen. Everyone knew it was gonna happen. You had too much tension built up from lack of sex and then the whole Jungkook fiasco. And yes, he was good in bed, incredibly good in bed but both of you kind of knew it wasn’t going to become anything. It was fun and you got along well enough to trade numbers but maybe it’d just be a hook up kind of relationship or maybe friends.
It went like this, you and him had exchanged number the night you met him and he messaged you later on when you were in bed. All he said was that he understood why Jimin hyped you up all the time and you began texting. It was obviously flirty and well by the third day of texting you invited him over and you fucked. Long story short.
But to be Frank, you just couldn’t stop thinking about Jungkook. Honestly fuck Jungkook for making you think of him. If he wasn’t so touchy and warm the other night at Jimin’s then you wouldn’t be feeling like this. If he hadn’t been so close that Friedan you didn’t would have never kissed. If you would’ve never kissed then you never would’ve thought about how easy you probably were to him and it wouldn’t have bothered you that he fucked Soomin the second you left. You were better off as friends too apparently. And everything seemed to go back to normal between you so it was never that big of a deal in the first place.
jungkook | wanna ride with me tomorrow?
Okay, maybe he’s been a little extra clingy with you lately. He’s not pushing any boundaries but he also doesn’t want you mad at him. Not that you were, but he still feels like shit for sleeping with Soomin when he did. He knows that bothered you even if you said it didn’t. Hell, if you went and fucked someone else after making out with him the way you did, he’d be pissed. He’d probably try and fight the guy honestly.
He just wasn’t thinking then. The only thing that had been on his mind was you and how turned on he’d been and he took your running off as signs that you regretted—which you obviously did—so he did what he knew best and had sex to forget about it. But it didn’t fucking work. He couldn’t just fuck his feelings for you away, he tried. He tried to but every girl he was with he just struggled—hence why he’s chilled out on hooking up. They weren’t you and then he hated himself for wishing they were. Like why did he have to get these weird feelings toward his friend?
A friend that he was so comfortable around, who didn’t agree with his one night stands but never made him feel small for it. Who else would sit three hours at a tattoo parlor half asleep just waiting for him? Who else would be the type of friend to skinny dip with him in the middle of the night? Not Jimin or Taehyung that’s for sure.
And while on the topic of discussion, yes, he did in fact check you out the time you went skinny dipping and it fucking sucked having to hide his growing boner from you because he liked everything he saw that night. He’s seen you a handful of times in bathing suits and revealing clothing but that night was a fucking struggle. Not even just you being naked part. But it was the whole thing. The jumping in the cold lake hand in hand laughing and drunk out of your minds.
It was an experience that he went through with you, a core memory that possibly had been the change in the way he looked at you.
Then the night at the party after being beyond fucking embarrassed for being shoved in a pool you found a way to comfort him and make a joke. He had been so pissed off he really had been in search for the guy to beat his ass but when he asked you about it he realized he didn’t even want to. He knew you’d disagree and so he lied, saying he was just gonna get changed—which of course he invited you to go with him. He thought maybe he just wasn’t in the mood to go outside by himself but he thinks now that he really just wanted to spend time with you. He knew you’d be the only one to make the most of his night and you did. He’s the one who fucked up, once again.
you | tae already asked :/
jungkook | but :(
you | :P
you | come over if you’re not busy
jungkook | goingggggg
He was there in a jiffy, smile on his face the whole way over all the way to your doorstep. He knocked before entering, still not waiting for you to answer. He kicked off his shoes waving over to you from where you sat in the living room, “Movie choice?”
“Something scary,” he said going over to your kitchen, “Ice cream or popcorn?”
“Ice cream,” you both said at the same time.
You see, back to normal.
Him sitting next to you on the couch [always a fucking couch], hands on your face, eyes closed [this is not how you watch a movie], lips pressed against each other. His hands slid down to your neck, then to your spine wrapping around your sides lifting your shirt only a little. He was then picking you up, placing you on his lap this time making sure you were straddling him. He exhaled roughly through his nose trying not to pull away as you tongue slipped into his mouth massaging against his.
His eyes were glazed over licking his dry lips panting when you pulled away kissing the corner of his mouth, fingers against his neck as you kissed lower toward his jaw. He bit his lip letting his hands come around to your butt, groping softly, squeezing on accident when you nipped at the skin of his earlobe before sucking love bites into the underside of his jaw. He was turned on, so fucking turned on.
And when you arched your back, chest pushing against his and butt pushing out into his hands he knew it had to stop. He had to stop. He was not going to do this again. “Wait,” he mumbled through the brush of your lips against his own, head slightly following yours when you leaned back. He licked his lips, “I just… what are we?”
Oh. Ohhhhh. You looked down at where your bodies touched. You shook your head mostly to yourself than at him finally snapping out of your ‘Kookland’ trance and realizing what the fuck you were doing again. Kissing your best friend, again. Again proving to him that you were easy. Again probably going to go through him sleeping with someone else right after—or would it be you doing that this time? Maybe call up Jin?
He didn’t fight you when you slid yourself off him tucking your hair behind your ears looking forward. Holy fuck he blew it, again. “I don’t know,” you said truthfully.
“Okay,” he nodded, answer enough, right? He felt the same, so that’s why he felt so fuck stupid for asking, but he had to. He didn’t want to sleep with you. No, no! He did. He really did, but not like this. Not without knowing how you felt, how he felt. He didn’t want you thinking you’d be another one of his hook ups. He wanted you for more than that. He looked over at you taking your hand in his, this time, instead of taking his ring and handing it to you he took his leather bracelet off, sliding it onto your much tighter wrist.
You smiled, not fully understanding what he was doing but it didn’t matter. You let him kiss your wrist and snuggle into your side, driving off to the state of in between. Not yet lovers. Not just friends.
“Jin! You’re here!” You wrapped your arms around the guy surprised to see him here. Once again, you were at Jimin’s lake house. He was throwing a party there again and like last time, you were going to be sleeping over.
“Yeah, only cause Jimin’s letting me crash here,” he smiled, “What about you?”
“Same, I rode with Taehyung and he’s probably staying so I’ll be staying too,” you told him eyes looking around for Jungkook. He stood across the large space with a drink in hand glancing over to you. Shyly, you turned back to Jin, “So what are you drinking?”
He lifted his cup to your lips tilting it enough for you to take a small sip, humming at the taste. He spoke, “Want me to get you some?” You nodded him off, unaware of the presence looming behind you.
A hand came to your hip, “Hey,” the voice whispered into your ear causing you to turn. Jungkook stood there leaning down to be eye level with you, “When did you get here?”
You shied away from him a little, “Just now actually.”
“And the first person you greet is Jin?” He was smiling but it didn’t reach his eyes. Obviously he wasn’t happy that you chose to say hi to Jin first instead of him but maybe he was just being greedy. In your bubble together it was easy to forget you were friends, but outside of it that’s the only way people saw you two. Friends. Good ole’ friends who definitely aren’t making out every chance they get when alone because they just can’t help it.
“He’s the first one I saw,” you tried shrugging it off but it was hard. You haven’t spoken all day and the last time you did talk it was with his lips on yours and a very intimate cuddle seat afterwards. Just friends though.
“Hey Jungkook,” Jin smiled greeting him as he handed you a drink that you immediately began to chug. Jungkook forced a smile, “Hey, what’s up man?”
He didn’t like the guy. Okay, nothing against him and it’s just Jungkook being a sourpuss but nope, he didn’t like the guy. He was too eager to get close to you.
“Nothing much, we were just talking about where we’d be staying tonight.”
“You’re staying here too?” Jungkook asked looking down at you. Jin nodded, “Maybe Y/n and I can share a room.”
He meant it as a joke. You can tell he meant it as a joke. He had a mischievous smile and everything but it obviously hinted at something. Maybe he could sense something was between you and Jungkook and wanted to rile him up. Or maybe he thought it really wasn’t a big deal since you both got over with it and assumed you would’ve told your friends? Whatever it was, it didn’t sit well with Jungkook. He laughed dryly looking down at you, but you didn’t say anything, hiding behind your cup, “Cozy.”
He didn’t say anything, glaring down at you walking away. Awkward. Jin shrugged, “What’s his deal?”
“No clue.”
He was annoyed. Annoyed. Annoyed. Annoyed. He squeeze his red cup feeling it crumple under his hold. Alright Jungkook, relax, it’s whatever. Actually, it’s karma for the whole Soomin thing, right?
He didn’t approach you at all from then on. He let you chat it up with Seokjin, watching you lean into him when you laughed or partner with him in some drinking game. He watched you two dance and didn’t care who saw him staring.
“What’s up with you?” Jimin nudged him hard after a round of King’s Cup. Jungkook had been boring holes into the back of Jin’s neck. He pointed with his finger toward you two, still holding a cup in that hand, “Is there something going on there?”
Jimin followed his finger, a smile spreading across his face, “Probably some sexual tension. They’re probably dying to get out of here to fuck again.”
Hold on. Freeze. What?
“Again?” Jungkook looked over to him, “When?”
“Like a week ago?” Jimin shrugged it off, “Hey, you crashing here?”
“I don’t know,” he mumbled looking back over to you. It made sense now why you and Jin seemed close, or why you were hanging out with him so much right now. At first Jungkook thought you might’ve been avoiding him since the kiss last night but now he doubts that. It was jealousy that he felt. Big fearful jealousy and matched with his sexual frustration he was ready to pop. He stormed off in your direction, chugging back what little was left in his drink and went to separate you from Jin.
“Kook!” You pulled on his arm just as he cut in between of you and Jin in the middle of your conversation, “Hey?“
“Is there something going on between you and Jin?” He didn’t bother easing into it. He needed to know now. He needed to know if he really never had a chance with you, that he’d always just be a friend and nothing more.
“What?” Your brows furrowed. You had no clue what was up with him. You and Jin shared a look but Jungkook didn’t look at him once, acting like he wasn’t there.
You looked around, his voice was too high someone might hear and bring unnecessary attention, “How much did you drink?”
“Just answer my question ” He said pointing to Jin, “Are you seeing him?
“What do you mean?” You furrowed your brows opening trying to pull him away to hopefully somewhere more private. He followed like a puppy as you excused yourself from Jin and led him toward the room you slept in the last time you were here.
“Did you sleep with him?”
You didn’t say anything but your silence was so loud. He scoffed, “You like him?”
“What? No, no.” You shook your head, “Not like that. We’re friends.”
“Is it so wrong?” This time he did look over at you, eyes narrowed, jaw tight. How does he even respond to that? Yes he’s mad, because he’s jealous. So fucking jealous of Jin. He huffed, “You don’t get it.”
“What don’t I get?” You rolled your eyes, “It happened once and that was it. We’re just friends.”
“Like us?” he questioned you. He wanted to know but yes, you say you’re friends but you both know you and Jungkook have never been just friends.
“Are you actually mad about that?” You asked watching him slump down on the guest bed, the lights still off and the party music blurred into the background, “Yes, Jin and I had sex. Yes, we’re friends, I didn’t know it was a crime.”
He scoffed, “So what are we then? Friends too?“
“What? I—I don’t know, “ “Think!” He pressed, “Huh? How do you explain what we are?”
“We’re friends,” you said shaking your head, looking up at him as he groaned. He ran his fingers through his hair, letting his voice rasp when he laughed, “Friends…”
He m threw himself back, hand coming over his face to hide the look of hurt he carried falling onto the bed, “Friends. Best fucking friends, right?”
“Please, you know I didn’t mean it like that,” you reached for him making him turn to face you again, now in the darkness of his room.
He let out another scoff, “Tell me then. Tell me we aren’t just friends.”
You were quiet. What were you two anyway? What were you doing together? What were you actually doing?
“What the hell are we?” His voice rose a little, “Why have you been avoiding me all night?”
Your brows furrowed pushing your knees into the edge of the bed, “Jungkook, I haven’t been… I’m sorry.”
“You have,” he looked at you, “All night you’ve spent attached to Jin like I haven’t been here. Why? Was it because of last night? Do you regret it?
“No Jungkook, it’s not that. I’m just confused,” you sighed leaning into the bed sitting on the edge, “You keep asking me what are we and I want to give you an answer and I don’t know. We kiss, you go sleep with Soomin. We kiss again, you tell me to wait and basically don’t want to have sex with me.”
His jaw dropped. That’s what you thought. You thought that because he asked you to wait last night it meant he didn’t want to have sex with you. You couldn’t be more wrong. “You seriously think that?”
You shrugged looking away from him making him sigh, “Y/n, I didn’t want to have sex with you because I didn’t want you to think that’s all I wanted from you.”
“Isn’t it?”
“No!” He sat on his elbows, “No, no. I don’t just want to hook up and drop it. I want to…” he took a deep breath, “I want to be so much more than friends.”
“Then why couldn’t you say that?” You asked scooting you the bed a little, the bracelet catching his eye. He shook his head, “Because let’s face it Y/n. I’m not good enough for you and that pisses me off.”
“What do you mean by that?” You pressed and you swear you could almost see Jungkook’s walls visibly cracking. He looked away toward the window, “I think part of me has always liked you but I wouldn’t let myself see you that way because, well, I just think you deserve someone better than me, yknow?”
“Like, someone who doesn’t force you to go skinny dipping or get into fights because he slept with girls who had boyfriends,” he shrugged trying to brush off his self deprecation, “And I can’t fucking stand Jin because he’s exactly who I always pictured you with and it pisses me off because it’s not me.”
“You’re stupid,” you mumbled shaking your head, “Jungkook, I don’t care about him like that. I like doing things with you even if they’re fucking crazy, you’re the main reason why I have fun anyway. Obviously there’s things you need to work on but that’s everyone.”
He didn’t say anything but his hand reached out to yours playing with the bracelet he put on you last night. It even said his name and everything that’s why he switched it with the ring. You smiled a little moving closer till your knees touched his hip, “And who else is gonna carry me all the way to my apartment when I’m super tired?”
He smiled, he really did feel special hauling your cute ass out of the car up the stairs to your door. He liked having you with your arms and legs wrapped around him like a baby bear snoring lightly into his neck. He may or may not have snapped a picture with you clinging off him in your mirror.
“Just so we’re clear Kook,” you sat straighter looking down at him. He was still sprawled on the bed leaning on his elbows for support making his collarbone dip even more and his abdomen tense. “I’m crazy into you.”
His eyes fell to yours, breathing getting heavier. You smile, breathless, heart thudding dully in your chest, he sits up fully now, eyes wide and adoring, stroking a hand on the duvet feeling it wrinkle under his hold. Out of the corner of your eye, you catch the large mirror in the guest room reflecting you, and reflecting his hands easing up the backs of your thighs and coming to rest right beneath where the skirt you wore tonight. His hands are hot, damp, and rough when they cup and hold your bottom playing with the thin fabric of your underwear, his eyes locked on yours, “You mean it?”
When you nod he smiles releasing a tight breath as his free hand comes to your chin tilting your face toward him, lips brushing against yours with need, “I like you Y/n, so fucking much.” He leans in, mouth against mouth letting himself fall back against the sheets forcing you to fall over him. He grabbed your thigh swinging it over his lap to straddle him as he held your face in his hands keeping your from pulling away.
You caught him by surprise when you used force to push him back sitting up and holding the ends of your shirt. He watched in a trance the way you tugged the shirt over your head stretching your back a little and flinging it onto the floor sitting over him in the skirt and bra. His hands on your thighs squeezing a little when you pulled on the collar of his shirt. He quickly yanked it off struggling for a moment before throwing it down next to yours. You didn’t lean down to kiss him again and it made him impatient. You kept looking away from him and he felt greedy. He wanted your eyes on him and just him, but when he found the source of your curiosity he practically melted underneath you.
There, just a few feet away was the full body mirror at a perfect angle to face the bed. He could see his long body in nothing but jeans with you over him in your cute skirt sitting on top. You looked at each other through the mirror, one of your hands raising over the ridges of his muscles and pecs. His muscular, tatted, arm holding you in place looking huge against you.
Finally, you pulled away from the mirror looking over at each other. Jungkook’s eyes were darker, gazed over with built up sexual tension and yours looked the same. His hand was back on your thigh feeling the curve of skin from where you sat. Before he was even able to say anything, you leaned in on his collarbone, leaving pepper kisses and soft touches drawing his eyes closed as he squirmed. It felt good. You nipped under his jaw again at the spot that had made him weak last time whispering in his ear, “Watch.”
So he did. He turned toward the mirror again watching the way you moved onto his neck, nibbling on it here and there, earning a soft whimper in return. His hips were bucking slightly seeking friction from this small act but he couldn’t help it. He’d been holding off on sex after he realized he only wanted to sleep with you. And here he was half naked in a guest room with the door locked and a party happening right outside. That made him feel even more on edge knowing anyone could go around asking where you were and they’d find you in bed with him. You began to shimmy down, kissing between his pecs, nails grazing over his nipples and he had to pull his lip between his teeth to bite back a moan.
In the mirror he watched the way your back arched making your butt stick out from under your skirt and he liked it. He liked seeing you like this over him, hands finding the button to his jeans yanking the zipper down. And he lifted his hips enough for you to pull them off, taking his briefs off too. He was fully naked while you still had on everything but a shirt. He’s never been in this situation before.
You had fallen to sit between his patted legs once his jeans were on the floor and he looked away from the mirror to look at you. Your hands went behind your back, as if reading his mind, and shedding off another article of clothing, your bra. He groaned quietly licking his lips at the sight of your exposed chest, hands reaching out to sit up and touch but you shook your head. He watched your hands cup your own breasts, holding the weight teasing him almost to go ahead and touch but when he tried you stopped. He can see what game you’re playing at but he didn’t mind, he’d keep his hands to himself if you wanted him to. He fell back into the sheets when you leaned down, eyes wandering over his growing member that gave a little twitch under your stare.
His breath hitched at the sight in the mirror again, ass up and face so close to his pelvis that he could just imagine what would come next. You turned to his left thigh, kissing on the inner part close to where his aching member waited pointing up to his trimmed happy trail. His chest caving a little when your teeth sank into the sensitive flesh giving his cock another twitch. He felt the slight sucking feeling of your mouth on his thigh and it made him squirm, “Fuck, Y/n,” his head fell into the pillows unsure if he should look in the mirror or down below, “Do something.”
You never expected him to react this way in bed, full of need and want. His muffled sounds, his twitches, and the way he would lean in on the touch it made you jealous to think of the other girls seeing him like this—but they never did. Jungkook never gave up control to anyone and right now that he’s being the pillow princess for once and all because of you, he really fucking liked it.
Jungkook’s hips quivered as you kissed closer toward his member, just at the base and his hand came up to your hair, your eyes shooting him a glare that had him shrinking back. You closed your eyes maneuvering his dick between your plump, soft lips. A palpable, slow throbbing began to envelop his penis as you slid your puffy lips back and forth. His breath hitches looking back to the mirror at the side profile of your head bobbing over him drawing out small gasps for air from him. Then he’d look down again at the sight of his hardened, thick, cock sinking down your throat watching drool and pre-cum dribble down the side.
The veins on his dick feel as hard as stone as you work whatever didn’t fit in your mouth with a hand each stroke making blood rush to his dick increasing the pleasure. You focused on the tip, licking around the thick head licking up what ever slick leaked from the slit and kissing it like it was his lips on yours. It was a sight, his eyes fluttering closed only to snap open scared he’d wake up from a dream and you’d be out there grinding on Jin. When your hand snuck below his erect member toward his aching balls his mouth drew open releasing a gasp, massaging them in your warm hands kissing where they hung before trailing up his length again. He felt heavy and thick but god you could just imagine all the things he’d do to you when you were done with him. “I’m gonna…fuck,” he panted letting his eyes screw shut when you finally decided to let his tip hit the back of your throat feeling it tighten around him. His warning only made you speed up, forcing more inside ignoring the squelching sound of his dick in your throat, one hand jerking whatever didn’t fit and the other fondling his balls. It took him less than a minute to tighten, grip the bed sheets tightly and release a large load into your mouth that you eagerly licked up.
“Fuck!” He whined staring down at the amount, holding himself back lately really put a strain on him if he went by how much he released and how much you swallowed back.
This time he doesn’t stop and wait for you to tell him not to touch you, sitting up and pressing his lips against yours. His hand under your chin and another moving up to cup an exposed breast. His large hand covering more flesh than your own, kneading teasingly as you moved over his thigh again. You looked toward the mirror when he trailed down toward your neck sucking hickies into your skin while his hands groped at your chest making you melt into him. Your skirt was up so high now but he didn’t seem to mind until he was shaking his hands under trying to pull your soaked panties off.
You squealed in surprised at the sudden jerk of movement, freezing in place as the tearing sound continued. He didn’t stop his assault on your neck throwing the now town panties onto the floor. You glared down at him, “Hey! Why’d you do th—ngh.”
His middle finger was sliding over your heat, gathering your wetness as he touched your folds and circled your clit still hidden under the hood. You looked to the mirror, his hand hidden under your skirt as his lips trailed toward your tits catching a taut nipple in his mouth as a distraction for when his middle finger began to push into your entrance, your lips parting in pleasure feeling his palm press against your clit. His finger pushed in deep, hooking at the end as he slid it in and out of your pussy all while his palm massaged into your clit, a second finger joining the first, his ring finger.
A hiss slipped from your lips feeling a light nibble on the softness of your breast, a suckling feeling on the skin looking down and finding his eyes locked on your as he left love bites on your boobs.
It didn’t take long for him to have you on the brink of release, the tightness of your walls around his fingers making his eyes roll in anticipation over what they’d feel against his cock. He brought you to the edge, on hand on your thigh keeping your legs spread for him, the other in your wet pussy, mouth on your tits. The mirror captured perfectly the animalistic curve of his back as he hunched over toward your body, the muscles protruding with every flick of his wrist up his arm. Your eyes rolled, nails sinking into his shoulders for support, his name on the tip of you tongue. “Cum for me bunny,” he whispered groggily against your skin and you immediately folded.
In the urgency of post orgasm he held onto you leaning over to pick up his jeans off the floor finding his wallet. He pulled out a condom looking over to you trying to tear it open quickly. He snipped his finger in the process, “Ow.”
“Slow your roll eager beaver,” you laughed taking it from him tearing into easily. You pulled it out looking over to him as he watched you closely, but the second your eyes met he couldn’t contain his smile. The smile then led to a giggle from you both, your current situation and all the seriousness draining from you both. You’d never been the serious type when together so this whole thing made you laugh. He brushed your hair out of your face, “You sure you want to do this?”
“I already opened it,” you said lightly, pointing to the wrapper ignoring the way his eyes rolled, “Jungkook.”
“Hm,” he sighed feeling your hands begin to ease the condom over his member slowly bringing it to its full hardness. “Do you want to do this?” You asked, his eyes finding yours again lip pulled between his teeth nodding his head, “So fucking bad. But I don’t want it to be a one time thing.”
You planted a soft kiss against his lips hovering over him. He grinds his cock against your coated pussy, shaft swollen out of desperation. Everything has led up to the point, and now he finally has it: the full permission to truly have sex with you, and if it were up to him this wouldn’t be the only time he gets to do it. He puts his hand over yours, grabbing his member with his own. Now teasing his head against your entrance, heat burns inside of his chest, body and mind stimulated and ready to pleasure you. Moaning out your name, he finally slides himself inside of you, embracing your tight cunt.
“Oh fuck,” you sighed out taking him all in, hands flat on his chest even as he sat up sitting you on his cock. Letting out a grunt, he adjusts himself to kiss your sweet lips. Your walls tighten around him in response to his thickness. His hands travel down to yours, holding them both tightly, “That’s right baby, I want to be the only one making you feel good.”
He looked over to the mirror, where your eyes had been glued and it made his hips buck arms tightening around your waist at the sight. There was the proof of it, what he’d always known. The way your bodies fit together like a finished puzzle. Your legs wrapped around him, your ass sitting so pretty on his cock, hips bouncing, chest pressed against chest, his head in the crook of your neck. His large hands sliding down the expanse of his back. It made him growl against your soft skin quickening his pace.
The wet sounds of your sopping cunt are audible with each harsh press of his cock, bliss to Jungkook’s ears. He groaned, “..T-Tight…” he uttered, plunging his cock in and out, picking up his pace hearing the bed squeak. Neither one of you cared, with the loud music from the party you doubted anyone could hear anyway.
Motivated by your noises, the tempo in his thrusts quickens, as well as the power of each pound. The slapping of his hips and thighs against your own echoes in the room. You could feel his weight on you growing heavy, leaning into you and brushing against your cervix. Your hands in his hair, pulling his head back looking at his parted lips and round eyes, “Kiss me.”
Jungkook felt himself getting closer, your cunt practically milking his cock, as his hand slid up your back to the back of your neck forcing your head down for his lips to meet yours in a heated kiss that left you both panting. He couldn’t take it. He felt restricted under you despite the pleasure coursing through his bodies so without wasting another second he was flipping you over, falling over you onto the bed, knees pressing into the mattress keeping you trapped under him. In the mirror you could see the harsh thrusts of his hips, the muscles in his ass and thighs flexing with each buck.
Your legs cross around his waist, holding him in place as if it were a plea for him to not leave. He thrusts desperately into you, grip on your hands tightening and panting heavily. “Please bunny, tell me you’re close!” He was loud falling into the expanse of your neck, his hand still holding you now trapped under the bed. He felt your nails dig into his scalp drawing out a hiss and you whimpered, “I—I’m cu—“
With one final thrust, he allows himself to cum into the condom when your walls squeeze the soul out of his dick with your release. All that was hear was heavy panting, your skirt now on sideways with the zipper all fucked and his knees pressing bruisingly my into the bed.
It took a moment to come down from your highs but he was careful sliding out of you, the spent condom filled with cum that felt warm and sticky against his softening member. He bit back a hiss in sensitivity as he tugged it off, tying the end of it and throwing it on the wooden floor—a mess he’ll clean tomorrow. He looked down at you, chest heaving in pants as you let your high come down. He looked down at your skirt, all twisted in the wrong places and with gentle hands he tugged the zipper down lifting your hips and sliding it off you. He went toward the closet opening the door finding a towel and he emptied a water bottle onto it wetting it before bringing it to you.
Softly, he pressed it into the space between your legs wiping away your release as you smiled lazily at him. He leaned down placing his lips on yours with a smile, “Was that okay?”
“Mmm,” you hummed letting him spoil you with aftercare as he finished cleaning himself off. He didn’t bother putting clothes back on lifting the ruined bed sheets and tucking you underneath with him next to you. Neither one of you cared about the party outside, you snuggled into his chest, his arms wrapping around you as he looked to his phone.
jimin | oh u little shits
jimin | where r u guys
jungkook | sleeping
jimin | my ass
jungkook | :P
The next morning you woke up a little sore, Jungkook was still asleep but with the sun blaring in your face like that you couldn’t stay asleep. You assessed the damage in the mirror, lovebites on your chest, and neck. You looked around the floor all your stuff scattered everywhere and you sighed looking at your ruined underwear. Thanks a lot Kook.
Not wanting to wake him up you dig into your overnight bag for the clothes you had planned to wear today, Jimin had given you the heads up to spend the day at the lake after the party. You slipped on your bathing suit and a t-shirt and shorts over it and left the room letting him sleep in.
“You little freaks!” Was the first thing Jimin had said when he saw you coming to the glass sliding door where everyone who had slept over was having breakfast. You just smiled in greeting as Jin passed you a plate. Jimin kept going, “So what? You’re seeing each other now? You know as the third musketeer I am so fucking offended.”
Taehyung laughed, “Three musketeers? More like three blind rats.”
“It’s mice.”
“Yeah but you’re more of a rat.” You ignored him taking a seat next to Jimin thanking Jin for serving you breakfast, “I thought we were quiet.”
“No, not at all,” Jimin shook his head, “That bed squeaks like a motherfucker.”
Shrugging you ate with one hand as the other blocked the Sun out of your eyes. Shortly after two hands came over your head, a warm presence behind you as they leaned down planting a kiss in your hair, “You should’ve woken me up.”
“Pussy put his ass to sle—“ “It did,” Jungkook didn’t even argue stretching his arms out shooing Jimin over so he could sit next to you, “Best sleep I’ve had in a while.”
“Lame,” Hoseok groaned, “While I’m throwing up in the bathroom those two are getting freaky in the sheets. I hate everyone.”
“Nobody told you to chug a bottle of Patron.”
Under the table Jungkook swung your leg over his lap reaching over you to steal some toast off your plate. He looked to Jin who was smiling down at his phone then back to you. You pursed your lips and he leaned into you giving them a soft peck ignoring all the fake gagging noises that rose around you.
Jungkook, your dear boyfriend?

song inspo: cool with you — new jeans [you know me like no other]
Jungkook was not the type to care, and that’s him putting it simply. He considered himself an average guy, he had friends and he went out and he studied well. He went to parties and stayed in to play video games, very average. The girls he hooked up with always knew he wasn’t looking for anything serious and the guys he hung out with were as carefree as he was. The point is, he does his own thing and stays out of drama, that’s how he likes it.
He does everything he can to stay out of
complicated situations, so when he overheard something he definitely shouldn't have… he tried to ignore it.
“Yes, we broke up.”
All he wanted was to enjoy his cigarette on his balcony without having to listen in on his neighbor’s phone call because they had their window open.
“No, I am not crying.”
It sounds like you are.
“I swear, I’m not.”
Jungkook swears you were. He doesn’t care… he’s just nosy and it’s not like he could ignore how loud you were. It was actually a surprise, he’s never interacted with you aside from the occasional pounding on the wall to tell him to keep it down. He finds it rare whenever you’re the one being louder than he was and on this particular night he couldn’t help but listen in on your conversation.
“I already got all my things out of Taehyung’s place, we’re done, seriously.”
A cloud of smoke covered the air above him as he released an exhale and hit the cigarette against his ashtray to get some of the excess ash off. A small smirk came to his face as he came to realize what a hypocrite he was. After going on and on about being a drama free dude, he stands here to listen to his neighbor talk about Taehyung, this mysterious ex of yours.
Funny thing actually, Jungkook used to know a guy named Taehyung. It was a somewhat common name, maybe, and it sounded similar to others so maybe he’s just hearing wrong but it was funny nonetheless—especially if Taehyung really was the right name.
“I'm just over it now, it was always the same thing with him,” your voice sounded a bit clearer now and he honestly forgot he was even eavesdropping, “Kim Taehyung doesn’t care about anybody but himself and I’m just tired of following him around.”
The cigarette dangling between his teeth as he glanced over to your balcony almost fell when his eyes met yours. You had already stopped talking but you stood at your open window now, phone in your hand, and looking right at him. Like usual, you didn’t acknowledge each other aside from a quick up and down stare and when it became clear to you that he heard it all, you slammed your window shut with a glare.
Jungkook snatched the cigarette from his lips and quickly put it out before taking a step back so he could close his window too. He immediately threw himself down on his couch reaching for his PS5 controller and scrolling through his friends, inviting random ones to log on and play him.
It was a lazy, peaceful night, for him at least.
You stared at the picture in your Snapchat memories with disgust. You were in the second stage of grief, ‘anger’, and every stupid picture of Taehyung that popped up on your phone just pissed you off.
One year. 12 months. 52 weeks. 365 days with that guy just for him to bring up a break up on your anniversary? What a fucking asshole.
“I hate men,” you said mindlessly as you swung your legs back and forth on the edge of your friend’s bed, “No offense.”
“None taken,” Jimin walked around the bed, picking up whatever mess he had on the floor, “But I still can’t believe it’s been a week already. How does it feel to officially be single again? Have you talked to him?”
You released a scoff, “Not after I got all my things.”
Here’s the thing, despite the argument you had before the break up, it felt so out of the blue. You didn’t think that a conversation over the fact that he prioritized quite literally everything else but you. His photography was more important, his friends were, his gaming was… everything and when you brought it up to him an argument ensued and boom:
“If you feel that way then maybe we should just break it off, Y/n.”
“Fine, maybe we should.”
And that’s how you found yourself single and heartbroken on the day that was supposed to be your one year anniversary.
Now you’re at your friend’s house having to recount everything that happened the other night because despite telling him everything on the phone and through texts, Jimin still needed an in-person retelling.
After a while of being bored with nothing to do at his place, you decided to move it to yours where you planned to also do nothing and be bored—but with a change of scenery. He drove you both back to your apartment with no desire to do anything but continue to shit talk just in a new environment. The drive wasn’t long at all and it didn’t take much time for the two of you to be trudging up the three flights of stairs to your floor talking about whatever came to mind.
The second you got even close to your door, you heard it. Your neighbor, like usual, was being loud. From the way he was yelling you could tell he’s playing some video game right now and he never had a sense of awareness when he’s in a match. You let out a sigh as you struggled with your key for a minute and Jimin looked to your neighbor’s door, “The walls are paper thin, aren’t they?”
“Yup,” you huffed, finally pushing your door open, “And he’s always loud like that. You should hear when he has a girl over.”
“Is that why you were always at Taehyung’s?” He asked you.
“Kind of? He hasn’t lived here for long but ever since then he’s just been driving me crazy,” you told him as you looked for your remote control to turn the tv on. Jimin couldn’t help but smirk as an idea came to mind.
“You should sleep with him,” he said as he plopped down on your couch, “Nice little rebound sex and if you hear him having sex then that’s gotta mean he’s good.”
You rolled your eyes joining him on the couch, “Shut up, why don’t you go and see, yourself then?”
“Not my type.”
“You haven’t even seen him.”
“I just know,” Jimin said.
The topic of your neighbor fell once your friend and you got bored of it and found something else to do.
That night, after Jimin had left, you found yourself in a strange predicament. Now that you’re alone with your thoughts you couldn’t help but think about your ex again and that led to where you are now:
With a tub of half eaten ice cream in front of you and large, unnecessary crocodile tears falling down your cheeks. Some sad Taylor Swift played loudly in the background and you found yourself singing along annoyingly hiccuping while crying.
“NOW IM IN EXILE SEEING YOU OUT.”
Just next door, your neighbor was busy on his own. Well, okay, he’s not busy but he was trying to nap. He worked practically all night last night and he hasn’t been able to catch up on his sleep. He would’ve been asleep already if his neighbor wasn’t blurting out the wrong lyrics to Taylor Swift on the other side of the drywall. He was beginning to understand how annoyed you would get whenever he was too loud.
He tried to ignore it for a while but when the sad songs changed to upbeat ones that have you belching the lyrics loudly, he couldn’t take it anymore. He stormed out of his apartment and right next door where he pounded on the door loudly, hearing you scream.
It took you a moment to realize someone was knocking and he could tell because you lowered the music enough to hear him knock. A few seconds later the door opened just slightly and realizing it was your neighbor you opened it a little more.
Jungkook was shocked at the sight of you, bloodshot eyes and smeared mascara as you smiled and said, “Hello?”
He blinked in disbelief at the way you looked but tried moving on past that, accidentally blurting out something he didn’t intend to, “Do you mind keeping it down? I’m trying to sleep and I would rather not hear you sing Taylor Swift extremely off key at the top of your lungs—“
“I’ve gotta listen to you all the time,” you told him with narrowed eyes, glaring at him. He released a sigh, “I know and now I get it but I’ve been listening to pretty much every single part of how your break up went down and that’s not something I’m interested in. Kim Taehyung is not worth all this moping around.”
The words slipped but he knew he messed up when your eyes widened in surprise and before he could apologize and say he didn’t mean to eavesdrop and that you were just so loud, you grabbed the front of his shirt and yanked him inside. Jungkook stumbled along, hitting the door on his way in and you shut it behind him asking, “How do you know Taehyung?”
Shit, he thought as he looked down at how close your face was to his, still holding him by his shirt and he had to move your hand before he could answer. He didn’t mean to say that but it just slipped and now he has to explain himself to his hot mess of a neighbor.
“Um,” he waited, trying to piece together how to say it, “I overheard you on the phone the other day and the name was familiar and… well, he’s an old friend of mine.”
“Then why haven’t I ever heard of you? Wait, what’s your name?” You asked.
“Jeon Jungkook, and that’s probably because him and I haven’t been on talking terms in a while,” Jungkook said vaguely, “And you were never really home until, I’m assuming, this break up.”
“It’s because you’re so loud, yourself, that it would drive me insane so I would just spend time at his place instead,” you said honestly as you finally went to turn off the song, at least that’s what he thought, but next thing he knew you were playing the beginning of an anime, Toradora, and singing along to the intro. You didn’t even seem to care he was in here.
“What happened? You guys had a fall out?” You asked, clearly not planning on kicking him out just yet and he walked over to where you sat and joined you, “Who said you could sit on my couch?”
That made him roll his eyes despite not knowing you and he sat anyway, “Uh because you dragged me in here and started asking me questions. I’m not just gonna stand, plus I can’t nap because of you so I guess I’m watching too, who’s your favorite character?”
“Ryuuji, I like his simplicity but I’m a fan of Ami’s too, she’s had the best character growth through the show and manga,” you said as you played a random episode.
“I know exactly what you mean,” Jungkook said making himself comfortable, “I like Ryuuji too, I think he’s a bit misunderstood and I know Taiga bullies him but I don’t know, I like that he’s comfortable with her and the way him and his mom took her in? Heart bursted right there.”
“Yeah, Taiga is just his neighbor but he recognized how hard it was for her to do things on her own and it was like an instant connection between the two. He didn’t mind nurturing her but also helping her see right and wrong, vise versa.” You told him turning the volume up and he nodded.
“What’s your name again?” He asked, hearing you sniffle but not bother to wipe off the mascara that ran down your cheeks. You picked up your ice cream tub and began to eat again, “Y/n.”
“Nice to formally meet you.”
The night was long and Jungkook was stuck at work. He can’t even explain how many drunk people he’s had to turn away already and the night has just begun. His friends stood at his side all doing the same thing, checking IDs, taking entrance fees, stopping bar goers from taking their drinks outside when they leave, etc.
“So your neighbor was dating Taehyung and you didn’t even know?” Namjoon asked as he flashed a light on someone’s driver’s license.
“I had never seen him in our building but to be fair she was rarely home and I didn’t have much of a reason to pay attention,” Jungkook said motioning for a group of guys to enter.
“That’s crazy,” Hoseok said as he came over with a box of donuts, “How long has it been since you and him even talked?”
Jungkook shrugged as he took a hit of his vape, “Like two years? How was I even supposed to know he was in a relationship?”
“True,” Namjoon said, letting another group in, “It doesn’t matter to you, it’s just crazy that your neighbor was the one dating him. Is she cute?”
“Hey, can I hit your vape?” Some girl asked as Jungkook checked her ID. She was cute and dressed for a night out bud he wasn’t even paying attention.
“No,” he said to her but Namjoon made a face that immediately made him backtrack, “I mean, yes she is cute—no to hitting my vape.”
“Ooo, maybe you should comfort her and see where it goes,” Hoseok joked, making Jungkook shake his head no, watching his friend eat a donut.
“Are you crazy? She seems like a lot and I would rather not get involved in any drama with him again. She’s cool though,” Jungkook said before turning to Hoseok again, “Where'd you get the donuts?”
“Some girl,” he said with a shrug, “Want one?”
Jungkook took one and bit into it, “And let me tell you, she seems like a lot to handle so I don’t even get how her and Taehyung got together.”
Namjoon chuckled, “Are you that curious? What happened to staying out of the drama?”
“I mean… that’s what I want but considering she’s loud when she cries it’s kinda hard not to get involved, Y/n sang like six heartbreak songs the other day and I basically got serenaded,” Jungkook said dramatically, “But I’m leaving it alone. I don’t want anything to do with Taehyung and whatever heartbroken girl he left this time.”
By the time they all got off work it was a little past 3:00am and he was absolutely beat. All he wanted to do was get home and make himself some of his special ramen and knock out but as he got to his door it was hard for him to ignore the sounds of pans clattering next door. He knocked on your door before he could stop himself and waited for you to open.
“It’s you again,” you said and you wore a tank top that showed a bit of your mid drift and some plaid boxer shirt with long socks, “Don’t tell me I’m being loud again, I’m so hungry I think I’ll die if I don’t eat something right now.”
You immediately went into a mini rant like he was a friend of yours and although it surprised him, he found himself saying, “I’m hungry too, I’m gonna make ramen, want some?”
Your eyes widened hopefully, “Please?”
“Come over.”
Jungkook wasn’t sure why he even bothered talking to you but he’s gotta be honest… he’s a sucker for girls crying. Listen, he’s been in relationships but he doesn’t care much for them. Of course when he’s actually in one he tends to pay attention to his partner a lot but truthfully, they’re kinda a bother. He’s not saying he wants a relationship with you but he’s been pretty closed off lately and maybe this is a sign that he should try and befriend people outside of his circle.
Anyways, now you’re over at his place and it’s nearly 4:00am but he’s in his kitchen making ramen as you looked through his manga collection.
“Wow, you’re like a weeb,” you said, “You’ve got all the popular ones too. Demon Slayer, Naruto — god awful taste — One Piece, Jesus the whole collection of Attack on Titan? You even got little figurines, yeah you’re a weeb.”
“Hey,” Jungkook glared at you, choosing to ignore your weeb comments in favor of asking, “What’s wrong with Naruto?”
“Nothing,” You said with a shrug, “I just personally don’t trust a man who loves Naruto.”
He couldn’t help but smile as he chuckled, “Okay, I don’t love Naruto but it’s nostalgic—and don’t lie, it’s not that bad.”
“I mean it’s not… but it’s not that good either,” you said, “I’m more of a shoujo girly so just ignore me.”
“Have you even watched it then?”
“Obviously,” you said, finally returning to him, “Are you almost done? I’m starving.”
“Are you always this impatient?” Jungkook asked and it’s strange that neither one of you have taken the time to note that you’re really just strangers. You’re not friends and you’ve barely started interacting but for some reason it felt like you’ve been friends for a long time. There was no awkwardness now and it kills him to know you used to date Taehyung because you’re nothing like him.
It shouldn’t matter to him, and it doesn’t but… it’s just strange. When he was friends with Taehyung it was mostly because they had a lot of history and not because they were similar. Jungkook was very different from him and oftentimes it would lead to unnecessary disagreements that friends shouldn’t have. It’s just hard to imagine your relationship with him and how you’ve landed yourself hanging out with Jungkook instead.
He’s a little uncomfortable with that because of what Taehyung has done in the past and it makes him feel a little guilty to even talk to you when he knows he has no reason to be.
“Yes,” you said, finally drawing his attention back to you, “Always.”
“Well it’s done so grab a bowl, top left cabinet,” he said.
Soon enough the two of you were eating ramen alone together in his apartment. If he explained this to his friends they would immediately make inappropriate jokes of ‘Ramen and Chill’ but it was anything but that. It was just two neighbors up late and hungry.
“So,” Jungkook cleared his throat as he swallowed a huge bite of noodles, “If you don’t care, can I ask what happened between you and your ex.”
“Um,” you hesitated, “I don’t know… if you’re still friends I don’t really want to get into i—“
“We’re not,” Jungkook quickly cut in, “We haven’t been for a while but if you still don’t want to tell me, I get it.”
“No, I’ll tell you,” you finally said and set down your bowl on the kitchen counter that you currently sat on. Jungkook just nodded his head waiting for you to start but it seemed like you were preparing to tell the greatest story of all time.
“Well, he dumped me on our one year anniversary for starters,” you said and that immediately made him cringe at his former friend’s cruel timing, “It sort of happened out of nowhere, I mean I noticed he had gone more quiet on the days leading up to it but I didn’t think it had anything to do with me. Clearly I had been wrong though because he dumped me a few days later like I had been the problem. He texted me a couple days ago asking how I’ve been but I haven’t responded. I’m still mad.”
“Rightfully so,” Jungkook said, taking your empty plate and setting it down in his sink, “Did he ever give you a real reason?”
“Maybe,” you shrugged, “Maybe not, I can’t remember.”
The two of you were quiet for a moment and before he could think of something else to talk about before you left, you asked, “What about you? What happened between you and Kim Taehyung?”
Jungkook didn’t respond right as he debated if it was worth telling you or not. It was years ago and it was never anything that serious but… at the time it had been and they’re clearly still not friends. He raised his shoulders in a shrug, “It’s a long story and not worth it.”
Instead of pushing him to go on you released a tired yawn not caring for how you looked as you hopped off his counter, “Alright well I’m fed and now tired too so I think I’m going to try and sleep a bit before work. You should catch some sleep before you have to go in.”
“I just got off,” Jungkook said as he opened the front door for you, “I’m a club bouncer, sadly.”
“Ooo, maybe you’ve kicked me out before,” you joked, “I can get messy if I’ve had one too many drinks.”
“I’m sure you can,” Jungkook said with a chuckle, “But goodnight, when do you have to wake up?”
“Mm, in like three hours? I work at a coffee shop,” You said, finally stepping out into the hall. His eyes widened before he was fully pushing you out, “Go to sleep, Y/n.”
When you were finally gone and he was alone in his home, he didn’t even make it to his bed and instead passed out on the couch.
You wouldn’t say you and Jungkook have become friends because you don’t actually know if that’s true. What you do know is that for the past week enough you’ve been talking way more to him than your other friends but only because they’re busy. Jimin has already argued with you [very dramatically, you will say] because he’s accused you of getting a new best friend which wasn’t true.
It was just extremely easy to talk to Jungkook, like you’ve been friends for years and he’s slowly helped you forget about Taehyung. He’s not doing anything out of the ordinary but for some reason Jungkook is really good at taking care of people. Take now for instance, he’s decided to come with you grocery shopping because you didn’t have a car and would have to take everything on the train.
Now you two are splitting a grocery cart and both going shopping as you asked, “Jungkook, how come I never hear girls at your place anymore?”
“Hm?” Jungkook asked absentmindedly as he stared at different types of milk, “Because you got annoyed by it.”
That made you smirk a bit as you used to shopping cart for support making it tilt slightly, “Wow, I didn’t realize you’ve grown so considerate of me, Mr. International Playboy.”
“I don’t know why you insist on calling me that, I’ve only slept with one person who wasn’t from here and she was Japan so still not too far,” he said with a sigh as he put things in the cart, “Besides, don’t get too cocky, I just don’t have the time to tell anyone that I’m not looking for anything serious.”
“Mm,” you said, pushing the cart along while he held onto the other end of it and dragged it along, “Well, I don’t even see your friends over. Do you even have friends?”
That made him roll his eyes, “Obviously, I just… I’m antisocial, you know this.”
“Do I?” You asked, picking through boxes of cereal, “You seem pretty social to me.”
“Yeah, well you’re different.”
“Ugh,” you couldn’t help but roll your eyes, leaving him behind as you kept walking, “I hate when guys so that because they can never explain how—“
“For starters you’re the only person I’ve seen have mascara running down your face while you watch Toradora, that’s different right?” Jungkook teased a bit by bumping into your shoulder when he caught up, “And cry and 3 in the morning because you can’t cook.”
“Okay that doesn’t make me different, that just makes me a hot mess.”
He smiled, “I mean yeah, but you’re not embarrassed. You’re actually kinda fun to be around and when we talk we can just talk about anything, y’know? That’s what makes you different.”
You shrugged and looked away trying to ignore the growing flush that filled your cheeks, “Good enough explanation—Hey! What are you doing this weekend? Do you have to work?”
“Yeah.”
“Lame.”
Jungkook stopped walking as he turned to look at you, “Why?”
“You know Kim Seokjin? He’s having a little pool party and he invited me but I know Taehyung is going to be there and I didn’t want to go alone,” you told him. Jungkook knew Jin, they used to be close friends but they’re a little distant now. He was also invited to the party but he had work so he was already not planning on going.
“Have you asked Jimin?” He asked you as he caught up to where you were. You nodded, “Yeah but he’s going to Busan for the weekend and my other friend Yoongi will be busy, it’s whatever. I’ll stop by for a second and then head out.”
Jungkook didn’t say much else after that. He understood how you must have felt. You want to go for Jin’s sake but you’re wary about seeing your ex boyfriend. He felt bad he had to work and your other friends were busy but it’s not like he could just call in to work for a party.
When Friday night rolled around you had taken about two shots before even leaving your house just to give yourself the courage to go. There wasn’t a need for you to go to the party but Jin had become your friend through Taehyung and you weren’t going to let any of them think you were avoiding Taehyung because you’re still heartbroken.
So when you showed up alone with your head held high, you were greeted warmly by the host. He wrapped you in his arms, “You came! So, drinks are inside, just get whatever you want and you can chill inside or outside. Did you come alone?”
“Yeah, the others were busy,” you told him honestly, “But it’s whatever, I’m just here to get drunk.”
Jin ruffled your hair with a smile, “Alright, come find me if you get lonely.”
You gave him a thumbs up and headed toward the kitchen where all the drinks were set up. You just got here so you haven’t seen Taehyung yet but you’re sure he’s around the corner getting drunk and you didn’t want to be sober when you ran into him.
“Y/n?”
Shit.
You looked up in time to catch your ex boyfriend walking into the open kitchen with furrowed brows. You debated ignoring him but that would just make it seem like you were still caught up on him, so instead you gave a nod of your head and said a short, “Hey?”
“Uh, hey,” he scratched the back of his neck nervously, “What are you doing here?”
Your brows knitted together in confusion, “I was invited?”
“I mean, I know but…” he bit his lip nervously and you dated Taehyung long enough to know something was up. Just as you were gonna ask what was wrong with you being here, a short brunette appeared at his arm, wrapping hers around his and looking up at him not bothering to acknowledge you.
“There you are, you can’t just leave me at a party with people I don’t know when you invited me, TaeTae,” she said looking up at him with starry eyes. You tried to not look surprised as he looked down in embarrassment, suddenly looking nervous when he looked back at you. The girl finally looked at you and asked, “Who are you?”
Taehyung opened his mouth to tell her to shut up but you were smiling already, “Y/n, you two look great together—even matching clothes—but I gotta go, there’s better things I could be doing.”
He watched you leave without another word and he slid the girl’s hand off his arm. He made a mistake, he should have known you’d be here. Why did he think you would still be mourning the break up and wouldn’t bother to show? He barely knew this girl but she was hot so he invited her in hopes of making hooking up after… but he didn’t plan on his ex seeing him with another girl. He kind of missed you.
Jungkook wasn’t telling himself he came to see you.
The reason he showed up at this stupid party was because Jin kept asking him too and since his other two friends would be working and it wouldn’t be too busy, they let him leave. He debated just going home and going to bed but then he remembered about yo—Jin—and he figured it wouldn’t hurt to show up.
“Dude, it’s been so long,” Jin said with a firm hand on Jungkook’s shoulder, “Let’s get you a drink an—“
“Have you seen Y/n?”
Jin stopped walking, he looked at his old friend with confusion, “Y/n?”
Jungkook nodded his head not bothering to question why Jin made a face. Jin was a lot closer to Taehyung so it’s not that he didn't know the two dated. Jungkook bets Jin is just surprised on why Jungkook, of all people, would be looking for you. Jin cleared his throat awkwardly and said, “Um, not totally sure but check in the back. Can I ask why?”
“I’m looking for her,” Jungkook gave him a short and vague response before he was leaving to find you. On his way out he saw something he wished he hadn’t and it only made him want to find you sooner. Just as he got outside he looked over to find Taehyung extremely close to another girl and before he could look away, his former friend looked at him but didn’t acknowledge him whatsoever.
Jungkook didn’t care about that, he cares more about finding you and if you’ve seen Taehyung yet or if Jungkook still had time to distract.
“Liar!”
He whipped around at an instance when he felt a pointed finger like his bicep, “How?”
“You said you had to work!” You said slurring just slightly and clutching a half drunken drink. Jungkook just shrugged, “I didn’t lie. I did have to work but they let me go. Shouldn’t you just be happy I’m here?”
“I guess,” you grumbled, taking another sip from your cup, “Want a drink?”
“Nah,” Jungkook said, “I drove so I’m staying sober in case I need to take you home. How many drinks have you had?”
You didn’t respond right away as you looked up in thought. Jungkook will admit your attempt to focus on your thoughts made you look a bit cute. Your brows were scrunched together and your cheeks puffed up with your index finger tapping your chin, “Like since I got here? Or in general?”
His smile slowly fell, “Y/n, how much have you drank?”
“Not a lot…” you said with a high pitched voice that gave way to the fact that you were lying, “Maybe?”
With a small sigh he looked down at your drink, “Is that your last one?”
“Probably not—Hey! Did you see Taehyung?” You asked, turning your back to him, “He’s here with some girl.”
“I know,” Jungkook said reaching a hand out to drag you back to him, “Did you two talk?”
“Yeah, he came up to me first,” you said with a small scoff, missing a step and Jungkook had to grab you by the waist to keep you from tripping, “And then that girl just shows up clinging to him and she had the nerve to ask who I was? As if he’s not the one who came up to me—as if I’m not the one who dated him!?”
Jungkook can just feel the rising anger bubbling up inside you the longer you looked and he didn’t like that. You needed a distraction, he knew you were over Taehyung for the most part because anyone would get mad seeing their recent ex act chummy with another person.
“What an asshole!” You nearly yelled in your drunken state as you turned your back to the sight of your ex boyfriend flirting with a girl right in front of you. Jungkook released a huff, “I know, just don’t let it get to you. He’s not worth it.”
He tried to grab you as you stumbled a bit in your steps but you just moved farther away from him. The party was loud and he felt as if everyone was drunk but him and that wasn’t usually the case. Usually, he’s the drunkest one here but right now he’s babysitting you and he doesn’t know why. All night he’s watched you down drink after drink until all you could do was slur on your words and stumble when you walk.
It’s only been a week since the two of you started to really talk and hang out so he’s not used to this side of you and he genuinely does not know what to do. How did he ever think his neighbor was quiet and uptight when you’re such a hot mess? Maybe it’s because he didn’t see you often considering you were always at Taehyung’s but damn, he did not expect this.
And on top of that, he doesn’t get how you and Taehyung ever dated when to him you were completely different. He can’t picture Taehyung following after you as you swayed in your steps ready to walk over to your ex boyfriend and tell him off like he was currently doing.
Wait…
Jungkook seemed to trip over the pavement as he pushed through the crowds of people that led outside to the pool area, calling after you, “Y/n! What are you doing?”
“I’m gonna talk to him,” you yelled, not bothering to look at him, “It hasn’t even been a month and he’s already hitting on other girls knowing that I’m here? That’s such a dick move!”
“I know, Y/n but listen— excuse me — “ he pushed past a couple of girls to get to you, “You’re not going to gain anything. You’re drunk and there’s a lot of people here and — excuse me — you don’t make any sense right now!”
You clearly weren’t listening and Jungkook was beginning to panic. You’re in stage four of grief, ‘depression’ and he knows you’re sad and you just want to get things off your chest but he knows that if you try and confront Taehyung in the drunk state that you’re in… you’re the one who’s going to look like a fool, not him. Nobody is even going to bat an eye at him but they’ll watch you judgingly and you’ll regret even speaking to him by morning. Jungkook came to a stop as he watched you chug back the drink in your hand zoning in on Taehyung who stood on the other side of the pool with his hand on a girl’s ass and a smirk on his face. Fuck.
You’re mad at Taehyung and you want to get it out but right now isn’t the time. If you want to confront him about something you need to do it sober and somewhere private, not at a party for all to hear and laugh at you as you slur on your words. Jungkook knew you were mad and that wasn’t going to change… all he could do is change who you’re mad at…
There was so much on your mind as you made room for yourself through crowds of people so you could get to Taehyung. The pool lit up the backyard in hues of blue and purple as neon lights sunk to the bottom of it yet nobody actually swam. Everyone just stood around it and in your way when you had a mission. You were going to march right up to Taehyung and ask him what his problem was. He dumped you but played it off like it was mutual… He called you two weeks later to get that he misses you [even after you got all your shit out of his house] and has the nerve to smile at you tonight but flirt with another girl knowing you’re here? God, you were so fucking mad and all you wanted to do was confront him, not even caring who saw or heard and what they thought about you. You were too drunk to care.
He was about fifteen feet away now and you tried to call for him, “Tae—“
A loud yell replaced his name and big hands grabbed you by your thighs and pulled you up. The familiar scent of Dior cologne filled your nose and when you got thrown over a muscular back you knew right away who it was, “Jungkook! Put me down! What is your problem?”
“Honestly?” Jungkook asked as he fixed you over his shoulder, turning you around in the opposite direction of where Taehyung was, “You. You’re my problem, right now so let’s go home before you make a drunk fool of yourself in front of everyone.”
“Fuck you, I’m not gonna make a fool of myself,” you said and even then you couldn’t hide the fact that your words were coming out all wrong and your vision was blurry, “I just want to talk!”
“Well now’s not the time!” Jungkook yelled ignoring all the stares the two of you recieved, “So shut up and let’s go!”
You groaned loudly, fighting his hold with everything you said, mind still foggy from the alcohol, “No! The only place I want to go is on the other side of this pool an—“
Jungkook didn’t waste a single second in thinking about what he was going to do to make you forget about how mad you were at Taehyung right now. The only thing that could come to his mind was to direct your anger toward him instead and before he knew it he was walking toward the pool hearing your shouts in protest thinking he was going to throw you in—but he had other plans.
His point wasn’t to leave you to be the only one embarrassed [which would have been the case if he let you confront Taehyung or if he threw you in the water by yourself], his point was to make you mad at him and only him. So despite your continuous effort to fight him off, he took the single leap into the deep end, not letting you go until you were both submerged into the water with his arms around you.
You barely managed to hold your breath once you realized what he was doing and even then you couldn’t wrap your mind around it till you swam your way back to the surface. Jungkook watched you brush your wet hair out of your face in search of him and he ignored all the loud cheering around the two of you for being the first in the water, cocky smile on his face when you glared at him.
“What is wrong with you?!” You yelled as you purposely splashed water in his face out of anger—surprisingly feeling sobered up now. Jungkook didn’t say anything, he only laughed and swam the very short distance to you, arms around your waist and dragging you back into the water with him, fighting to hold his breath when he felt your hand in his hair yanking him deeper inside.
The second time you came up for air the only thing on your mind was how to murder your neighbor and make it look like an accident. Jungkook just kept smiling at you with that cocky look in his eyes as he asked, “Well?”
You almost didn’t bother answering as you swam to the edge in search of a way to pull yourself up without having to go to the ladder which was conveniently very close to where Taehyung was now watching the two of you with furrowed brows.
“Are you mad?” Jungkook asked as he lifted you up the edge with ease despite you telling him to fuck off and pulled himself up swiftly to follow you. You wrung the water out of your shirt, “Obviously!”
“Okay! But at who?” Jungkook asked, ignoring everyone looking at him and trying to talk to him. You scoffed, “You! Asshole.”
“Good,” Jungkook said triumphantly, completely unaware of the way his former friend watched you two leave the backyard party completely drenched in water.
The only thing on Taehyung’s mind was what the hell was going on? When he saw you earlier you weren’t with anyone. It was just you and he didn’t even know Jungkook was here but maybe it’s because it’s been so long since he last saw the kid and he’s very obviously grown up and changed with all the tattoos and piercings. So all he wanted to know was how the fuck did you two know each other?
When morning came and the sun beamed down on your face more than you were used to, you woke up with an annoyed groan turning in bed to hide. The scent of shampoo coated the pillow you rested your head on and it was a surprisingly deep smell that had you snuggled into the pillow further you hid from the light. In an effort to fall back asleep and ignore the pounding of your head, you rolled onto your side hitting a wall of pillows and blankets. Your eyes opened just slightly, vision still blurry as you blinked sleep away and allowed yourself to look around, a scream leaving your lips as you toppled off the bed. Tangled in a blanket you hit the floor with a loud thud that had the person that made you scream shoot you abruptly.
Jungkook looked around, leaning over the side of the bed with an annoyed huff, “Jeez, you gave me a heart attack.”
Your jaw dropped as you sat on the floor, “I gave you a heart attack? Um what are you doing in my bed?”
“Your bed?” Jungkook furrowed his brows, “Look around sweetie.”
You did just that, eyes widening even further that he swears they’ll pop out of their socket, “Where am I?”
“My room,” Jungkook laid back down with a loud yawn.
“And what am I doing here?”
He released a sigh like he couldn’t be bothered but said, “Well after your drunk fiasco at the party, I brought you back and you couldn’t find your keys so you slept over here.”
Your brows furrowed, “What happened to my clothes?”
“They were wet and you were falling all over the place so I had to change you—don’t worry I had my eyes closed,” he told you and you took it in. Jungkook was sober majority of last night and you could only imagine what happened when he brought you home.
“Where are your keys?” He asked tiredly after he held you up with one arm ignoring the fact that you were both still drenched in pool water. You hiccuped, “I forgot them.”
“What?!” Jungkook asked louder than intended and you glared at him, “Don’t yell at me.”
“You’re a mess,” Jungkook grumbled, dragging you over to his front door, “I’ve never had to take care of a grown adult this much.”
“Just leave me outside to deal with my misery,” you said dramatically as he hauled you into his apartment, letting you fall to the floor once inside. Jungkook just shook his head as he left to his bedroom in search of something you could change into. When he came back you were sprawled on the floor half asleep and he punched the space between his brows in annoyance, “Y/n, get up, you need to change.”
All you did was groan, “I tired.”
“Yeah, well me too,” Jungkook kneeled down to grab you by your ankles and drag you across the floor before making you sit up. He angrily pulled the shirt over your head asking himself why he had to deal with you because your ex is a piece of shit.
Okay, he doesn’t have to but who else will?
The shirt fit you big so when you flipped back to the floor with a whine he asked, “Take off your jeans or else the wet denim is gonna give you a rash.”
“Yesh, dad,” you raised a hand to your forehead as if saluting him and you did as told, giving up halfway and making him finish yanking them down your legs with his eyes closed.
“You’re not allowed to drink anymore when we’re together,” Jungkook said, ordering you to slide your shirt off from under the tee, “At least not as much as you did tonight.”
He took your wet clothes and went to change before hanging it all to dry outside and when he went to the living room carrying a blanket for you to sleep on the couch with, you were asleep… still on the floor. With a stomp of his foot in a mini tantrum, Jungkook knelt down, slipped an arm under your neck and the other under your knees and picked you up with a huff. He wasn’t even careful when he let you fall onto the couch.
“Oh god, did we do anything stupid?” You asked referring to the fact that you had woken up in bed with him and wearing some t-shirt of his. Jungkook rolled his eyes, “No. You were supposed to sleep in the living room but you woke me up in the middle of the night because Bam kept kicking your face. Then you got all touchy and I made this pillow fort to protect myself from you.”
It had to be close to 3:00am when Jungkook finally let himself fall asleep. He made himself comfortable in bed trying to relax after the hectic night he’s had and when he was just finally starting to fall, a loud knock on his door snapped him awake.
“Ju—koo!” A whiny voice called from the other side of the door.
“What?!”
“Cold,” you whined, head leaned against the door, “And Bam won't stop licking my face.”
Jungkook huffed, “Tell him to stop!”
“I did,” you knocked on the door. He kicked off his blankets in annoyance, “You’re so needy!”
Even as he said that, he got out of bed and opened his bedroom door, moving to the side as you pushed past him and threw yourself down on his bed with your blanket wrapped around your body tightly. He watched you with tired eyes before going to his side of the bed. He grabbed all the extra pillows, moved you to one side and set up a wall to separate himself from you.
“God, what happened last night?” You groaned as you got up only to fall back onto his bed trying to piece it all together. You only remembered a couple things, “You threw me into the pool, asshole.”
“Yeah? Well, I would’ve been a bigger asshole if I let you make a fool of yourself in front of Taehyung and everyone else,” Jungkook said. You looked at him, only turning your head on its side and he did the same, neither of you saying anything for a moment.
You should probably say thank you but the way things unfolded, it might only make things more awkward. You were already slightly embarrassed but yes definitely seen you act stupid plenty of times so instead you said, “Help me get inside my apartment.”
The two of you stood on his balcony now, both looking toward yours which was separated from his by about two feet. He shifted his gaze toward you, “I’m confused, what are you trying to do?”
“The door is unlocked, I just gotta get over there and let myself in,” you said with a gulp as you poked down at the forty foot drop. Jungkook shook his head, “Are you stupid? I’m not letting you do that.”
“What else am I supposed to do?” You asked him with your hand on your hip. He mirrored your pose with more attitude, “Call the maintenance man, genius.”
“It’s gonna take them like three days to get back to me, Einstein, are you helping me or not?” You asked and you watched him stop to think.
“I’ll do it,” Jungkook said but you just shook your head.
“No, I’ve got underwear hanging to dry by the door, it’s not happening,” you told him, already walking to the railing. Jungkook gave up on arguing with you over it and followed after you. You gripped the railing looking over to your balcony which was only two feet away. This should be easy… all you have to do is get over his to yours, he ever has a little stool that he sits on that you could use as a boost.
Jungkook thought about what he should do to help you and in the end just held you by the waist to keep you balanced as you lifted a leg over the railing and stepped onto the short side of the cement ledge, “Oh my god, you’ve gotta be the craziest girl I’ve ever met.”
“You know a lot of people say that to me,” you said and the two foot gap didn’t seem as intimidating anymore, “Okay, let me go.”
“Y/n,” Jungkook begged as his arms tightened around your waist, “This is a bad idea.”
“Too late, I’m already halfway there so let go before I fall on purpose to make you feel bad,” you nervously joked as he let go but not without calling you a bitch. With your breath held tightly, you stretched a leg out first feeling the end of your balcony touch it and with a careful leap, you held onto your railing hearing Jungkook gasp nervously. He watched you swing a leg over until the railing was between both of them and as you finally touched down on your side, you slipped, falling into the hard cement with a groan.
Jungkook shielded his eyes with his hands, “Are you good?”
“Barely,” you huffed as you forced yourself to your feet and checked to see if the glass sliding door was in fact unlocked. Your heart seemed to tighten in relief as you opened it, huge smile on your face looking back to your neighbor, “Got it! Okay, I’m gonna get cleaned up, thanks.”
Jungkook was already picking up his pack of cigarettes and bringing it to his lips, “You stress me out.”
“I’ll make up for it,” you said already halfway through your door, “Whatever you want, just tell me and I’ll do it.”
With that, you left for your apartment in search for your spare keys and he sat down on his stool with a breath of relief. He couldn’t believe you and the more he thought about it, the more confused he got on how you and Taehyung found each other…
The thought didn’t last long in his head when he looked down at his vibrating phone, eyebrows furrowed as he read the caller ID.
“KIM TAEHYUNG”
It took Jungkook a moment to even decide if he wanted to answer or not but in the end he couldn’t help himself and curiosity got the best of him, “Hello?”
Taehyung’s voice was unusually cheery, “Hey man! How have you been?”
Jungkook shrugged even though his former friend couldn’t see him, “Uh, good I guess, what’s up?”
“I was calling cause of last night…” Taehyung said dragging out his words as if it would ring a bell for Jungkook.
He didn’t say anything wondering how this would go. It’s weird that Taehyung was even calling him and if there’s any reason behind it, it’s you, “Hm…”
Taehyung wasn’t sure why he expected a bigger response but he brushed off his small hum and went on, “Well I saw you with Y/n and everyone was kinda curious, what happened?”
“Oh, Y/n did something to piss me off so I got back at her. Why?” Jungkook said playing off the events from last night until he understood why Taehyung was bothering to talk to him after their fall out.
“Hm? Oh um, well, I just… I didn’t know the two of you were friends,” Taehyung cleared his throat awkwardly as he thought about it. Last night confused the hell out of him. First, he ran into you as he’s with another girl and second, he runs into an old friend—to make matters more confusing it appears you two knew each other and he doesn’t get how.
Jungkook couldn’t help but smirk, a little annoyed but he ignored it as he went inside, “I get it, how could you know anyway? When’s the last time you and I talked? Like two years ago?”
Taehyung nervously chuckled, “Yeah, I guess. So did Y/n get home safely?”
He rolled his eyes, “Why are you so curious about her?”
“Huh?” Taehyung was genuinely surprised, “She didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?” He asked, deciding to play dumb.
“We used to date?” Taehyung said seriously, hoping Jungkook wouldn’t like the news if in fact, you’ve never told him. He wants to know what’s going on between you, he doesn’t care if he’s your ex, he deserves to know.
“Oh, no Y/n’s never even mentioned you,” Jungkook lied for your sake. He wasn’t going to give Taehyung the benefit of knowing he’s still on your mind.
“Not even at the party?” Taehyung asked with furrowed brows, suspicious if Jungkook was telling the truth or not.
“Uh, no? Why? Did something happen?” Jungkook asked as he pet his dog subconsciously as he smiled listening to the sound of music already coming from your apartment.
“No, not really. So, what are you doing? How about we get lunch and catch up?” Taehyung asked and if he could see Jungkook right now, he would see how unimpressed he was by that idea.
Jungkook leaned back in the couch and said, “I’m kinda busy, maybe another time?”
“I mean, okay… sure, yeah let’s catch up another time.”
Taehyung was suspicious, of course he was! When he broke up with you it’s because he told himself he didn’t have feelings for you anymore but clearly that’s not true because seeing you with Jungkook… it pissed him off. Sure, you and Taehyung didn’t have much in common but you worked, that’s why you were together for a year.
Jungkook is—he’s a shut-in hermit crab and you’re not. He doesn’t bother with drama or getting to know someone new so how the hell did you two even meet and have you really never even mentioned him once? Jungkook clearly didn’t know that the two of you were together and that just pisses him off even more. Why is it that you didn’t talk about him to Jungkook? It’s not like the two of you broke up long ago, it’s recent.
When the call finally came to an end he was left alone to wonder what the hell was going on with you two?
There wasn’t a shift in the air that you two have noticed but something has definitely changed. The amount of times you hang out has increased dramatically to the point where you were at least seeing each other once a day whether it be to eat ramen or go to the gas station. If you were free and Jungkook was free… chances are you’re gonna see what you can do together. Your friends swear that he’s all you talk about lately but you don’t think that’s true—until you hear that how friends think he talks a lot about you two.
It’s strange, your friendship has just grown stronger each day. Everyone keeps trying to say that there’s no way the two of you are just friends but you really are…
Seriously…
“I can’t believe you did that,” you said laying back on the couch with your feet over his lap. You wouldn’t have had your feet on him at all if he didn’t force himself down on your small couch.
“Did what?” Jungkook as he leaned over your legs so that he could sit forward and play his game better.
You pushed your heel against his thigh, “Drag your PS5 over here instead of just playing at your place.”
Jungkook just smacked his lips in annoyance toward his game, still not bothering to even look at you at all, his eyes stayed on your tv screen as he said, “You wanted to hang out.”
“But you’re not even talking to me,” You threw your head back against the armrest of the couch moving your feet off him and that finally got him to pay attention and he paused his game to look at you. He even went as far as setting his controller down on your coffee table, a little smirk on his face.
“Aw, you want me to pay attention to you?” Jungkook asked with a small laugh, “Okay, okay, how was your day?”
In reality he wanted to ask how you’ve been feeling lately—more specifically, toward him. The way the two of you became friends was a bit random and him even being here with you is strange considering the fact that he became your friend after you broke up with Taehyung. The timing wasn’t right but he does know that your friendship is strong and you don’t think about whatever happened in the past when you’re with him.
He likes that. He likes how easy it is around you.
Sure, sometimes the line in which he separates you from a friend to someone he is attracted to is beginning to blur.
No, he doesn’t find you attractive.
Well okay, yes he does. Even after seeing you with makeup down your face, drunk out of your mind, and first thing in the morning when your hair's a mess—for only being friends for a short amount of time he’s really seen a lot of sides of you.
But you’re just friends, he knows that, he doesn’t expect more… he didn’t even want more. Since the beginning all he’s ever done is talk about wanting to just be by himself and mind his business but clearly that all changed when you came along and to be honest, he liked the change.
“It was okay,” you said, making him realize that he had moved his hand onto your calf, and was softly sliding if higher then back down, “Just really boring and then I ask you to hang out and you’re just y’know… gaming.”
For a second Jungkook thought you were being serious and actually began to feel bad about possibly upsetting you by not giving you any attention. Just a moment later though he could see you smile and hold back a laugh when you watch him go serious with worry. When he realized you wanted to laugh, he rolled his eyes, “Whatever, I thought you were being serious.”
You just chuckled watching him lean against the other end of the armrest. He was sitting forward but he was looking at you sideways, one hand still on your leg and you just looked back at him. The game wasn’t even playing anymore and he was only focused on you now and the way you were looking at him.
His fingers began to tap against your leg, softly caressing every now and then, a small smirk coming to his face. Your brows furrowed, “What?”
“Nothing,” Jungkook said, running a hand over his face. You sat up a bit, “Now you have to tell me.”
“Nothing, it’s just…” he was hesitant, debating if he should be honest or not, “Don’t look at me like that.”
You released a scoff, sitting up further and moving away from him, “Like what?”
“Like you wouldn’t mind if I kissed you right now,” he was serious now as he said and you can see the change in his gaze. You were too stunned to speak, you wanted to say it was unexpected but like… things have felt different lately…
You could see the way his tongue poked against his cheek looking at you with a dazed look in his eyes. You’re not sure what made you say it but you asked, “You want to kiss me?”
Jungkook laughed softly, shifting his eyes to his lap, “Basically.”
You bit down on your lip in thought, quite literally checking him out from head to toe. He was even sitting with his tattooed arm in your view and he’s been rubbing your leg with it this entire time.
This isn’t a good idea.
Jungkook is your friend.
Sure, you’re not mad anymore about whatever happened with you ex, and sure… you haven’t been intimate with someone in a while, and yes Jungkook is attractive from the way his voice sounds to the way he walks but… but he’s your friend.
So why was it so easy for you to say, “So do it then.”
Jungkook didn’t need much else of a sign before he was going for it. He went to cross his end of the couch to yours but before he could get all the way over, you were meeting him halfway with your hands coming around his neck almost immediately. Your lips met so suddenly at first that it was a bit of surprise but neither of you shied away from initiating a kiss.
The first thing he noticed was how soft your lips were against his. They were warm too and your mouth felt so good that Jungkook brought his hand up to your hair so that you couldn’t pull away too soon but you kissed him so eagerly that he doubts that would even happen.
It was just wet and needy, soft sounds coming out whenever his tongue licked along yours. Your arms wrapped around him more and Jungkook was so quick to pull you into him until you were practically stumbling onto his lap. His hands found your waist and he slid them down toward your thighs so he could fix your legs to straddle him, not once pulling his mouth from yours.
Your hairs were in his hair, brushing it out of his face as you attempted to pull away. Jungkook just chased after your lips, feeling the line of split that connected your swollen lips together even when you backed away. He was just as out of breath as you and when your eyes met there was just a small moment of hesitation wondering if this was a good idea or not.
The moment didn’t last long when felt you the slightest hint of excitement in his sweats from the way you straddled him and you couldn’t help but grind your hips down. Jungkook swallowed back a moan with your lips as he kissed you, pulling you back against him so that you could sit directly over his growing erection. His eyes fell shut deepening the kiss with his tongue and yours relishing in your make out and the way your body felt pressed against his.
“Y/n,” his voice was hoarse as his hand slid down to the back of your cotton shorts, thankful for the thin material of them when he groped your ass. You were both in clothes ready for bed and he could still feel you through the layers. Your hair fell to one side as you kissed along the corners of his mouth, a hand flat on his shirt while you trailed down toward his jaw. He licked his dry lips when he felt the tender affections on the angle of his jaw as the hand over his t-shirt ran over his chest. He let his head fall back trying to catch his breath when you playfully nipped at skin, kissing away any pain and sucking lightly.
Both of his hands found your butt, squeezing here and there and tongue kissing you messily. It honestly felt so good and when his hands slid up to lift your shirt a little, you didn’t hesitate to sit back and behind taking it off yourself. His rough hands fell to hold your waist, holding you back as he took in the sight of you. Jungkook would be lying if he said he hasn’t checked you out before. It wasn’t entirely his fault, he had to get you out of wet clothes!—well, okay, yeah it was his fault they were drenched in the first place but his intention wasn’t to see your body.
It just happened and every day after that he had to remind himself that you were a good friend and you were going through it and him getting any feelings for you wouldn’t be good.
A pleased sigh left his lips when your hand began to touch the end of his shirt sliding underneath to run over the ridges of abs you knew he had. You could see them through pretty much every fitted shirt he wore. Even when he wore loose and oversized tees there was no way to hide his back muscles. He was so strong too, you didn’t expect anything less than the taut muscle in his torso and you just could help but want to feel all of it.
Jungkook helped you take his shirt off and it joined yours on the floor before he was leaning forward to kiss your neck. His thick fingers ran along your spine in search for the clip on your bra and swiftly unclasped it, dragging his hands under the material. While doing this, Jungkook begins trailing his kisses down your neck to your shoulder, following the straps down your arms, taking it off you and discarding it so he could touch you without barrier. A soft meowl left your lips when his big hands cupped your breasts and pressed the pad of his thumbs against your rounded nipples smoothly. It didn’t take long for his fingers circling around your nips to turn into his mouth swallowing around one.
“Jungkook,” you whined lightly when he moved his tongue around your erect nipples, you were getting so turned on your core was dripping with need.
Jungkook couldn’t find it in himself to be more patient and once he felt your covered push grinding on his dick, he just has to remove some of the layers between you two. His big hand raised your hips enough with you help so could his sweats down as far as they could and you shift to kneel beside him on the couch watching him undress.
You began taking your shorts off, a small groan leaving his lips at the sight, “You’re not wearing underwear?”
He was wondering why it was so easy for him to grope your ass and feel you so much more and it just made his dick throb with excitement at the sight before him. You nodded your head looking at him with those same eyes that started this in the first place and he felt your hand making its way to his hard cock. His lips parted with a gasp when you took it in your hands, giving one shy stroke right off the bat.
Jungkook didn’t waste a moment hesitating as he wrapped an arm around your waist pulling you closer in his side to jerk him off while his other hand began to teasingly run along your inner thighs.
You were soaked and it didn’t go unnoticed by his long fingers. His middle finger ran between your folds teasingly as you made a fist with your small hand and stroked him from his base to his tip making sure to rub against that soft spot and bulging vein. His precum was beginning to dribble out and every now and then you would coat his head with it before flicking your wrist on a downward stroke. Light moans from the both of you filled the room as his fingertips rubbed against your clit, covering it in your slick and swiping all the way to the puddle of wetness at your core. Your lips drew open in a moment when you felt his middle finger begin to tease your entrance and finally push its way in, a thick amount of slick joining him creating a light squelching sound.
You quickly dragged him into a hunger kiss as he began to fuck your with his thick finger while you fisted his cock. Jungkook licked the shell of your ear, “Wanna fuck you so bad.”
His words had you moaning and shaking when his finger became two getting but more rough, even bucking his lips into your hand. Your mouth was permanently open in pleasure as you said, “Do it then.”Jungkook just smirks as he removes his hand so he can pull you up to straddle his lap again but this time feeling your wet push right on top of his fat dick. Jungkook had to bite on his lip to stop from moaning when he felt some of your wetness coat his member as he moved to grip your hip. Your hands went to his shoulders to support yourself as you lifted your hips off his thighs enough for him to align his cock with your entrance, moaning when he ran his tip of your clit, “Fuck, I don’t have a condom, Y/n, fuck.”
“It’s okay.” You moaned as you helped guide him in, “Just pull out.”
Jungkook nodded his head as he finally held you by the waist and helped you down his throbbing dickwith a groan.
"Jungkook," you whined at the stretch and the way he dig his fingertips into your hip bone to steady himself when he pushed through your tight walls. It took you a second to get used to his size but once you had, your hands were on his shoulders and your feet on the couch, raising your hips until only the tip of his cock was inside, and slowly took him all in again. A low groan bubbled up in his throat, sliding his hands down ass, helping you fuck yourself on his hard cock, eyes on your chest which was just right in front of his face.
You were right and your pussy completely coated his dick with your slick that everytime you came up, the slide back down was easier. Your body clung against his as he began to mouth at your exposed neck and collarbone. His legs were spread apart to give you the room and he felt so good inside of you. It hasn’t been a crazy amount of time since you last had sex but it was long enough to make you appreciate Jungkook’s big dick. Your hands were curling into his hair feeling your lower back begin to hurt in this position but he helped you raise and lower your tight pussy on his length. A small gasp left your lips as you felt his tongue tease a hard nipple, licking it expertly before wrapping his lips around it. He had one hand on your other breast and the other hand guiding you to fuck yourself on him. He nipped at the bud playing with it while he twisted and pinched at the other. Your body pressed against his and each time you sank down his cock, you would grind your hips forward humping him and angling yourself where he could feel your folds parting.
Jungkook groped your ass, digging his nails in surely to leave a mark and he raised his hips off the couch enough to fuck into you, ramming his cock in and out with each pretty moan you let out, his mouth was still on your tits so he sounded muffled when he groaned, "So fucking good."
Jungkook left wet, sloppy kisses over your throat, moving his hands to grip your waist harshly. Jungkook's nail dug into your soft flesh as he lifted your hips up and down on his cock hearing you whine tiredly. You were already becoming puddy in his hands and he took it upon himself to wrap your legs around him as he turned your bodies to lay you flat on the couch. A loud moan left your lips with this new angle and now that he was on top, he didn’t ease up his thrusts, only let them get more forceful with more intent. Your nails clawed at his back, running them down toward where his back dimples should be and you practically guided his cock in and out of your wet cunt, making him fuck you more roughly than before.
“Oh my god,” you said breathlessly, throwing your head back against the armrest and looking up so you could try and calm down as he fucked you. He had a hand roughly groping your tits and the other on the back of the couch for support as he thrusted deeply into you, only moving his hips and contracting every muscle to do so, “Fuck, Jungkook, ngh.”
"Just like that," he bit into his lip looking down at how pretty you looked under him, only making his hips move more rapidly, “Take my cock, Y/n.”
You nodded but you couldn’t even look at him as you tried to keep yourself under control by staring up at the ceiling, “S—so close.”
Jungkook groaned when he felt your wet cunt tighten around him making it harder for him to drag his cock out but it made him have to fuck itright back into you with more force. He could feel your ring of nerves clenching around his member as it sucked him into your folds and each time was harder to get back out. It was wet and slippery and you were so fucking hot that he knew he wouldn’t last. He dropped his face against your neck, “You’re so good for me, so fucking right goddamn.”
He wasn't going to last much longer either.
He hasn't slept with someone in months and even if he did it didn’t feel like this. It shouldn’t feel like this because he wants to see you as just a friend but clearly that’s never been the case and if he had deprived himself of feeling your pussy tighten around him, he might’ve gone insane. Your legs wrapped around his waist making him go deeper and you were moaning loudly now, “I’m gon—I’m gonna—oh my god.”
It washed over your writhing body like a wave, Jungkook felt it travel through your body and around his cock till he felt your creamy fluid coat his member. He quickly pulled out with a loud groan as he was unable to stop himself from cunning all over your stomach in thick spirits of semen that made his legs give out and his body pressed against yours. You hugged him closely as the two of you tried to come down, his lips on your neck soothing you down from the highs of climax, “Felt so good.”
“Mhm,” you moaned softly as you unwrapped your legs from around him and let them fall limply, “Fuck.”
Your hand slid between your bodies to touch the muddles of cum be covered you in and it made him pull back enough to see the mess, biting his lip as he attempted to apologize, “Sorry, I was gonna—didn’t have time to—yknow.”
You smiled as you moved to sit up more, “Better me than my couch.”
He let you stand up, moving off of you, “Are you good?”
His hand held yours keeping you from moving and he couldn’t help but look down at your body and the mess he made on your stomach. You nodded your head, “Yeah but I need to clean up, asap, it’s sticky.”
You said it jokingly and he laughed with you, both of you still relishing in what just happened. You released a sigh, “I need a shower, want to join me?”
He nodded, not wasting a second to ponder over it, “Let me help clean up and then I’ll go.”
You left with a nod of your head and Jungkook looked at the mess the two of you made in your living room, already seeing a small stain on the couch.
As he searched for his clothes, the doorbell caught him off guard drawing his attention to the door. Deciding to ignore it so he could join you in the shower, he picked up his things to leave when the doorbell chime turned into a fist against the door and that had him curious. He quickly slipped on his sweats already hearing the shower run and went to answer. It was probably just a delivery or a neighbor complaining about the noise. He didn’t bother with a shirt and his hair was a messy but he didn’t care as he opened the door expecting anyone but the person in front of him.
“Jungkook?”
“Taehyung?” Jungkook looked at the guy in front of him with confusion.
He watched him take a step back as if to make sure the address was right for you and looked back at him, “What are you doing here?”
“Um, I live next door,” Jungkook said dumbly as he attempted to ignore the fact that he was shirtless and sweaty and your ex boyfriend was noting that.
Taehyung’s brows furrowed, “Wait, you’re the one who lives next do—why are you at Y/n’s then?”
Jungkook huffed in annoyance, “Taehyung, come on man… does it really matter? Why are you here?”
“Because I’m hereto talk to her about our relationship—“
That made Jungkook’s jaw clenched at Taehyung’s audacity, “What relationship? The two of you aren’t together.”
“Look, it doesn’t really concern you—why aren’t you wearing a shirt? What the fuck is going on here? Y/n?!” Taehyung tried getting through Jungkook to enter your apartment but he didn’t let him. Fuck no. He was not going to let Taehyung come in and ruin everything that has just happened between you. “Taehyung, don’t. You dumped Y/n just get out of here.”
Taehyung scoffed loudly, Oh, I fucking knew something was going on between you two at the party. You didn’t even hide it!”
“You have no idea what you’re even talking abou—“
“Why are you at my ex’s house?” Taehyung asked abruptly as he stood directly in front of Jungkook’s face, both equal in height.
Jungkook scoffed as he glared at his ex friend; “Taehyung, not everything is about you so get over yourself and just go already. Y/n does not want anything to do with you.”
That only seemed to piss Taehyung off more as he scoffed and said, “Oh I get it now, you slept Y/n… Is that what you’re doing here? To sleep with my ex?”
Jungkook was starting to get pissed, rightfully so in his opinion and he wants nothing more than to get this guy out, “I’m not saying it again, Taehyung, just go before Y/n gets out of the shower.”
Unbeknownst to either of them that you had already turned off the water early once you heard the banging on your front door and the muffled voices.
“So you did!?” Taehyung ignored his warning to accuse him further, “Was this your plan all along? You wanted to get back at me by fucking my ex? I didn’t realize you’re still not over what happened with Minsu. Come on Kook, that was years ago, did you really need to go this far? I still care about Y/n.”
That passed Jungkook off and he’s never been in a fight with anyone he considered a friend once before and right now he’s very close to doing it, “I’m not you! This has nothing to do with you or Minsu and stop lying. You don’t care about Y/n! You just found out her and I were close and suddenly you wanted to call dibs on her again? Jeez, you’re still the selfish asshole you’ve always been.”
“Fuck you, Jungkook. You’re just jealous, you’ve always been jealous. Yeah, I slept with the girl you liked but it wasn’t enough to stop being my friend!? Yes, I knew how much you liked her but it’s not my fault she got in my bed! How do you think Y/n is going to feel when she finds out you only slept with her to get back at me?” Taehyung as so cocky when he spoke and Jungkook was seriously beginning to lose his patience.
“That’s not tru—“
“What?”
The two men immediately looked behind Jungkook where you stood in a bathrobe that Taehyung recognized immediately at what had just happened between you and Jungkook.
“Y/n…” the both said and Taehyung took a step inside when Jungkook’s guard was down and a smile threatened to appear on his face when you looked at him.
“Taehyung, what did you just say?” You asked and Jungkook immediately felt his heart drop.
He took a cautious step toward you, wondering how much you heard, “Y/n don’t listen to him, he’s lying and he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
“It’s true, That's probably why the two of you got clo—“ Taehyung tried to say only for your sharp tone to snap them both silent with surprise.
“Get out.”
His brows scrunched together in confusion, “What? No, I’m here to talk about us.”
You just rolled your eyes, “Well I don’t want to talk to you Taehyung, so get out.”
“Y/n—“
“Taehyung! Get out, I don’t know what you were hoping for coming here but I want you to leave,” you said louder now and there was no denying the finality in your tone that had your ex backing down reluctantly. When he looked at Jungkook it was like the final straw to push him over the edge and he stormed back out leaving the two of you alone, silent.
Jungkook was trying to get closer to you but also unsure if it’s what you wanted as he said a soft, “Y/n…”
“You too, Jungkook, just go.”
He knew he should just do as you say but that kind of hurt his feelings considering just a few minutes again he made you cum with his cock and he gathered the strength to say, “No.”
You released a deep sigh, turning to sit on the couch still without a thorough shower, “Jungkook, I want to be alone so please just go.”
You just needed time to yourself to think. You had no plans of getting back with Taehyung and him coming over just surprised the fuck out of you. On top of that you just had sex with someone who’s your friend and who’s helped you get over the break up and although it seems like just a rebound, it didn’t feel that way.
Jungkook stood before you, “No, I’m not leaving because I’m not letting you think for even one second that what he said is true. I didn’t sleep with you to get back at him. I couldn’t care less about Taehyung and the only reason I even thought about that guy again was because of yo—“
“I know.”
Your soft tone surprised him and he found himself stuttering out, “… you do?”
You nodded your head, running a nervous hand over your hair, “I mean, I know you — I think — you’re not the type of guy to do that…”
His heart raced in relief as he moved to sit next to you, “I’m really not, Y/n. You know me, I like staying out of the drama and with him, that’s all you get. I wouldn’t have even bothered to acknowledge him if it weren’t for you.”
“Jungkook…”
He leaned forward so that you were forced to look at him as he said, “Y/n, listen to me, okay? I like you… I know we just… y’know, but It’s not because I wanted to get revenge. That’s petty. I’ve been hanging out with you all the time because I enjoy it. You’re a hot mess and crazy and loud and the complete opposite of what I thought you’d be but… but I’m cool with you, y’know? I put up with all your late night meltdowns and early morning hunger because I wanted to spend time with you—I literally jumped in the pool with you so we can be fools together—why are you laughing?”
It was hard to ignore the way you smiled and fought back a laugh as he talked and it confused the hell out of him that he had to ask. You just sighed, “Because you don’t have to explain yourself, Kook. I mean, you’re right, I’m a hot mess…”
He shook his head, “I didn’t mean it in a bad way, I kinda like it… it’s exciting and you have good intentions and you’re not vindictive and you don’t really care what others think of you and I want you to know that you’re literally always on my mind but I tried to tell myself I just wanted to be friends but… look, I don’t expect you to feel the same even after tonight but I just want you to see that I really do like you, all of you, there’s nothing I want to change.”
You were still smiling as you slouched back on the couch that he just fucked you on, “You know, you’ve gotta be the only person who’s ever said that to me. Do you really mean it?”
He scoffed with a laugh, “No shit, Y/n. You stress me out in the best way possible.”
“That’s because you know me like no other and you aren’t trying to change me, you’re seeing me for me. I’m crazy into you,” you confessed, surprising yourself and him.
“You are?”
“Yeah.”
He gulped in thought, “Y/n, if we can just look past whatever drama just happened and try, but I get it if you don’t want to—I mean, I get it, honestly, you just got out of a relationship and getting with me right away probably won’t look good to others and if you’re not ready I get it but—“
You sighed, “Who cares what other people say?”
You don’t, not anymore. It’s just exhausting to always be thinking about others and right now you rather focus on yourself and who makes you happy and right now that’s Jungkook even if you hadn’t admitted it before.
“Y/n…”
“Jungkook, I don’t know about y’know, dating yet but… but I really do like you and I don’t care what other people say anyway. Can we maybe take things slow?” You asked shyly as his hand fell over yours to hold it.
He nodded, eyes looking down at your lips and watching you bite down on them. He took a deep breath feeling you move closer and he had to move back, “Y/n… we can’t take things slow if you try to kiss me.”
You sat back in surprise, “Why’s that?”
He chuckled softly, “Because I won’t be able to stop.”
“It’s okay, we can just cuddle then—that is, of course, if you don’t put a pillow fort between us again,” you said to him as you leaned into his side.
“Listen, I was being considerate about the fact I had a drunk girl crawl into my bed looking too cute in my shirt,” Jungkook said honestly as he helped you snuggle against him.
“Ah, so you’ve always had a thing for me? You sure you didn’t plot this?” You teased.
Jungkook scoffed as he poked your side, “Shut up, I did not, I just… maybe a little?—I mean you try and involve yourself with someone as crazy and fun as you and try not to fall for them!”
“Gross,” you joked, “I didn’t realize you’ve been obsessed with me this whole time.”
“Oh shut up.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE
Long time no see— it’s P, the romantic at heart! This one’s for the people who play otome games, whose favorite spot on campus is the library, and who are afraid to be loved but want to love as hard as they possibly can.
Enjoy my contribution to the tropey Uni AU genre! Also wtf thank you for 1k followers (If you’re a minor please unfollow me. Idc if that puts me way back under. If you’re not, thank you, and stay tuned bc I will do something to celebrate… once I get through 6 months worth of notifications rip)
“Have you ever gotten the random urge to give someone a blow job?”
You lifted your head from your notes, eyes wide and scrutinizing. Why did your friend have to be so damn loud in the library, of all places?
A scoff barely escaped your mouth before you dived back into your textbook, “There’s not a person with a dick on this university campus that deserves one from me. Why? Have you?”
“All the time, but especially when I’m on my period,” Rin confessed, “Hormones.”
“Oh, I bet.”
I don’t know how Rin finds the time to think about these things…
Your friend pouted while drumming her pencil against the communal library table as if she could hear your judgemental thoughts. There were more important things for you to worry about, clearly.
You sighed as you began to pack up your backpack to catch your most dreaded class of the semester, coding.
It was an elective you immediately regretted taking, but you swore to yourself to see it through to expand your skill set. Unfortunately, it was just a week into the semester, and the horrid feeling that you would fail a class for the first time was way too real.
Rin continued to spew nonsense, “Maybe I should check this dating app—”
You slung your backpack over your shoulder and ruffled Rin’s hair on your way to the elevators, “You are a slut, aren’t you?”
“Please stop acting like you’re not,” Rin rolled her eyes and raised her voice just enough to carry over the bookshelves and be heard by unsuspecting students, “There’s only so many otome games one can play!”
“Shhh!” You hissed at her to shut up, eyes shooting daggers at the snickering girl.
She must’ve been spying on you every time you pulled out your phone to take a break. What did she have against your little games? After your first relationship went up in flames, they were a pretty decent replacement for dating and soon became an addictive hobby.
They were great time-killers, required minimum commitments, and had a plethora of eye candy to choose from. Even if you did screw up, you just needed to wait a few days to replenish your lives. Plus, they all fit in your pocket…
And they could never break your heart like your ex had.
‘I’m gonna kill you’, You mouthed at her over your shoulder while slamming your fist against the elevator button.
Rin tapped her lips with her middle finger and sent you a flying kiss. Deep down, she hoped you’d come across a sweet boy for your own good.
While you stared at the colored lines of code on the monitor in front of you, determined to at least figure out how to embed one damn photo onto your website for tomorrow’s critique, your silent tablemate on your left tapped away at his keyboard with ease.
Everything about the guy screamed overachiever; it was 45 minutes after class had ended, and he was still working away on his project after everyone else had left.
Meanwhile, you were pretending to know what you were doing by typing in some random characters and then immediately deleting them. Being the anxiety-ridden person you were, you managed to work up a nervous sweat, your palms going numb.
Fuck, this is embarrassing. I should just leave and figure it out once I get home.
The student next to you didn’t seem to have any issues, but then again, the course you enrolled in was actually a combined class with different levels, and clearly, this wasn’t his first course in the subject. It was definitely an odd curriculum; you weren’t sure why you hadn’t read the class description more thoroughly.
“Hi! Mind if I sit here?” You asked the student earlier upon seeing the closest open seat available.
The boy didn’t say hello, he merely spared you a glance, adjusted his glasses, then resumed the staring contest with his computer screen.
“Okay…” You said with a touch of annoyance in your tone. His eyes barely shifted to your face in response, and then he was back to typing.
His standoffish attitude from the moment you walked into the class and took the closest open seat next to him irked you more than it should’ve.
It wasn’t until you sat down next to him that you were thrown off by how big the guy actually was, but even more so, the faint scent of sweet lavender wafting off of him. You weren't sure whether it was cologne or detergent, just that it somewhat reminded you of your favorite macaron flavor.
How unexpected. Well, that ruins it, you thought.
Even if the guy smelled pretty damn nice, he was snooty in your book. If he didn’t have such an aloof attitude about him, you might’ve befriended him just to reach out for notes in the class in case you got sick.
Rin often called you a prideful bitch, and you’d brush off her accusations, but deep down, you knew her words had some weight to them. Prideful was a fair adjective; your strong desire to handle your own business kept others at bay, which was great for someone like you who liked to be left to your own devices.
Though pride paired with stubbornness wasn’t necessarily the most beneficial combination when finding oneself in a pinch…
Nearly two hours of the class begrudgingly swept by, and you were still stuck on the initial steps, your brain utterly confused by the jumble of lines and coding rules you had to adhere to. It was a huge struggle to keep up with the pace the professor taught, let alone ensure the material stuck in your brain.
It also didn’t help that the boy next to you had the audacity to pull up a window of manga on the side to read while you were struggling your ass off.
You rolled your eyes and scoffed at him.
Now, the class was well over, and you still managed to convince yourself to stay even though the shit your professor covered in lecture went in through one ear and out the other.
After such a long day of stacked classes, your facade slipped, and you dropped your head into your hands. If you were honest, some of your pride slipped along with it. Since you were so busy, the last meal you had eaten was yesterday’s dinner, and you were starving. There were tons of other class assignments you hadn’t even touched yet.
You bit your lip and watched the boy out of the corner of your eye, debating for a solid minute if you should ask for help. At this point, you were just wasting precious time that could be spent running to the nearest McDonald's for a burger.
In the name of efficiency, you decided to reach out for help from the person you least wanted to ask— but just this once.
“Hey. Could you show me how to add an image to my site? I can’t figure it out even though I tried to follow the directions….”
First, you saw the boy’s brown eyes widen ever so slightly before he looked over you in consideration.
If he says no, I guess I’ll go fuck myself.
“Sure.”
Oh.
Feeling your heart flood with relief, you replied gratefully, “Thank you.”
You were taken aback when you watched him slide off his chair and drop to his knees by your side. He leaned over the edge of the table to take control of your mouse and keyboard, his attention fixed on the debauched code on your screen.
Really, you two could’ve just switched seats, but you decided to let him do his thing while you tucked your hands under your thighs and watched. Your brain was beyond trying to make sense of what he was inputting into your code.
Funnily enough, the silence between you two was even more awkward than it had been before you spoke to each other. Still, you refrained from distracting him, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.
After a minute, you decided to check him out instead.
Your eyes shifted between the computer screen and his calm, concentrated features since you hadn’t really gotten a good look at him before.
His black, wispy bangs hung just over his dark eyes, and his circular, silver-rimmed glasses sort of amplified their roundness. They held a touch of naïveté in them– but when you looked at him from the side, they were sharpened due to focus.
Admittedly, he had the softest-looking set of lips, the kind that anyone would easily be jealous of. The slope of his nose was just as cute, to your annoyance.
Your eyes trailed downwards to the pronounced curve of his throat, but just for a moment before returning your attention to the screen of code.
He was attractive in an unexpected sort of way.
It actually was kind of sweet that he’d be willing to kneel on the questionable floor of the computer lab to help you out. You wondered if he was trying to make up for ignoring you at the beginning of class.
“Is this the photo you want to add?” He hovered the mouse over the recent file in your downloads folder.
“Yeah.”
You must’ve really fucked up your code because the slowest five minutes passed before he clicked save on your program, and most of it you spent trying to act like you hadn’t been staring at him every other second.
The boy finally stood up with the slightest groan, and to your dismay, the sound went straight between your thighs.
Woah there.
“Try refreshing that,” He instructed while rubbing at his kneecaps through his jeans.
With the click of a mouse, you refreshed the program to see a jpg of your favorite Shrek meme pop up on your otherwise bare-bones-looking website.
“Wow— it actually works. Thank you,” You were unable to help yourself from beaming up at him, rather impressed at his efficiency.
He merely nodded, averting his eyes.
Was he older than you or younger? Did he work on the weekends? Have a significant other? A myriad of ridiculous questions bombarded your mind.
“What’s your name?” You asked.
That was a good, normal place to start.
“Heeseung,” he stretched his arms over his head and winced at the slightest crick of his shoulder. All your eyes could focus on were the sharp lines of his waist peeking out under the edge of his sweatshirt.
You introduced yourself as casually as you could, “My name’s ___. This really isn’t my thing, so thank you.”
“Anytime,” He said simply, rubbing at the back of his neck.
In a flash of a second, the shameless part of your mind dared to imagine how that shy expression of his might twist into one of pleasure— how his breathy sighs would fill your ears while he was hunched over, bracing himself on the table. At the same time, you pictured yourself between his long legs, mouthing kisses over his bulge, watching him twitch above you all the while.
‘Who’s the slut now?’ You could already hear Rin’s ridiculous comments; she must’ve poisoned your brain with the thought.
Feeling yourself starting to go slightly demented from the turn of events, you excused yourself and threw your supplies into your backpack to leave as quickly as you could, entirely oblivious to how Heeseung stared after you on your way out.
Heeseung meant it when he said, ‘anytime.’
From that day on, there wasn’t an instance where he didn’t hesitate to help when you asked him for it. Each day, you grew less and less hesitant to ask him for assistance which was… interesting.
What was even more unbelievable was that he never asked for anything in return, and you were so grateful, so smitten by him. The assignments you received were absolutely distressing, yet Heeseung didn’t appear to resent your requests and was always more than willing to lend you a hand. Based on your life experience, that was far from normal.
There was a question that you just had to ask a few weeks into the semester when he was helping you work on one of your projects for the nth time.
“Honestly, do you like doing this?”
Heeseung leaned back in his chair and appeared contemplative while stretching his wrists. “No. Coding is a tedious process, but if you’re referring to helping you,” He looked at you with an earnest gleam in his eyes and gave you a small smile, “Yes, I really like helping you.”
It was the first time you felt your heart skip in a while.
Right then and there, you could’ve dropped to your knees and let him use your mouth however he pleased. Fuck everyone else in the class; you would’ve done it.
On a serious note, it was unfortunate that you had nothing to offer him of value in the class.
Your creative mind worked so differently, and you two didn’t share any other classes you could help him with. So you often tried to make up for it by conversing and attempting to get to know him.
Emphasis on attempt.
The downside to your interactions was that he rarely engaged with you on the occasion, even when you tried to initiate a casual conversation with him.
“What are you always reading during class?” You glanced over at his screen curiously one day.
Heeseung was always quick to minimize the extra window when you caught him. “Nothing much, just manga. Need something?”
“What? I— No, I was just wondering,” You’d quirk a brow at him, and he’d return to his task.
Every time you came into class and took the same seat next to him, you’d greet him, and he’d greet you in return but left it at that. After assisting you with an issue, he’d always quietly turn back to his computer and pick up where he left off. Maybe you’d be able to get in a question or two, but he hardly talked up a storm.
Even when you probed him about his life, Heeseung merely gave short replies or shook off your questions. He was so difficult to get to know and apparently didn’t care to hold a conversation with you outside of coding. Still, you were insistent because you were a relatively private individual yourself. Really, you tried to understand where he was coming from.
“I’m so glad I don’t have classes after this,” a yawn escaped your lips as you covered your mouth with your hand.
Heeseung’s typing never ceased, “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” You stared at his profile, waiting to see if he’d continue the conversation. After a second too long of waiting, you asked, “Do you have any night classes?”
“I don’t. I have work.”
You perked up in your seat. “Oh? Where at?”
“I’m actually about to change jobs, so it really doesn’t matter,” Heeseung responded curtly.
You sank back into your chair. “Oh. Sorry.”
He turned to look at you as if to say something, an apologetic expression nearly taking hold of his features, but he seemingly held himself back and returned to his work.
Still, within the coming weeks, you grew curious about his family as well. One day your curiosity was at its peak, and you rattled off questions about any possible siblings he might have. That was less intrusive than asking about a significant other, right?
“So, are you an only child, or do you have any siblings?” You probed during a particularly long day and difficult class session. When one’s brain was already fried, it didn’t hurt to completely give up on figuring something out, especially if you had Heeseung.
Just for today, you promised yourself as Heeseung was clicking away at your keyboard, helping you out as usual.
“... I have a brother,” Heeseung hesitated, “Stepbrother, actually. He’s a student as well.”
“No way? Same major as you?”
“No…” and he left it at that, making you wonder if they weren’t on the greatest terms... Or if he just didn’t care to share more of his life with you.
Nonetheless, your attempts to converse with him day after day eventually took a toll on you. Clearly, you were bothering him with the questions, but it’s not like you just chose anyone to put effort into getting to know. Why couldn’t he understand that? Most people would’ve loved getting asked about their life and would easily drone on and on about themselves.
Rin would cackle at you now if she only knew of your circumstances. As if you would ever tell her with the shit way things were going.
God, I should just stick to my little otome game apps with automated responses.
After several weeks of your relationship with him going nowhere, your savior became the source of your frustration.
Guys never helped you out without an ulterior motive or expecting something in return, so it was almost inconceivable to think someone like Heeseung existed. His caring personality subverted your initial expectations of him, and you knew his selfless actions came from a sincere place, but still…
This had grown beyond needing his help in class. All you wanted to do was get to know Heeseung because you had taken a genuine interest in him.
Was that asking for a lot?
The day you walked into class and plopped into your seat without saying hello to him, Heeseung knew something was up. The boy had gotten much too used to your greetings every day.
Barely able to contain your irritation with him, you stared straight ahead at your screen and got to work, despite feeling his eyes on you.
Beside you, Heeseung was desperately trying to read your stoic expression. He’d glance at you meekly, and look back at his computer for a few seconds, only to peer over at you again.
This cycle went on for the next few minutes until you heard him greet you first, for once.
“Hey, ___–”
“Hey,” You barely spared him a look and settled back into your workflow just as swiftly.
Stumped by your odd behavior, Heeseung drew his hands into his lap and fell quiet once more.
Just when you thought he’d leave you be, Heeseung pulled up to your side in his rolling chair, that signature lavender scent of his invading your senses. His knee bumped into yours but stayed there.
“Do you need my help with anything?”
“No, thank you,” you replied coldly.
You saw him wilt out of the corner of your eye, and something vengeful in you felt good about making him feel the way you’ve felt for the past months. The other part of you just felt plain guilty.
Feeling suffocated, you abruptly left the class to get some fresh air. You were hoping the open-air foyer filled with wooden benches would grant you a moment of reprieve.
Choosing the farthest bench from the entrance, you sat down and propped up your legs, pulling your knees close to your chin. The evening breeze swept across your flushed cheeks, and you were mortified to realize tears were threatening to spill down them.
It was childish of you to reject Heeseung’s attention once you finally got it, but… you couldn’t help it. You knew the attention wasn’t due to any sort of genuine feelings toward you; it was merely your petty behavior that provoked him.
Was this how it felt to be rejected while trying so hard to befriend someone? Is this how people felt when you made them jump through a hundred hoops to get to know you?
You thought back to when you took the chance to let someone in for the first and last time. Had you just been too much? Or maybe not worth the trouble?
If that were true… maybe that was the reason your first love had cheated on you.
Old feelings bubbled up in your chest, and suddenly everything really felt like shit.
To make things worse, you were sulking. Even though Heeseung could tell something was up and was trying to diagnose the situation, he still infuriated you. If anyone had to deal with an aloof individual for as long as you did, you were sure they’d go crazy too.
Especially if they were as cute as Heeseung was.
Fuck.
There was no way you were about to cry in public over a boy, the most angelic, frustrating boy you’ve ever met.
Not everybody reciprocated people’s feelings equally, and it was simply life to deal with it. Still…
Once you buried your face into your arms, you released your pent-up emotions with a shaky breath, letting the hot tears fall and soak into your jeans. You decided to stay there for a while, long enough until you knew everyone in class would be gone, so you could rest assured no one would see your pathetic tear-stained face.
It was a good half hour after class ended before you made your way back to collect your belongings and catch the bus to head home. Somehow, you cried for the majority of it as quietly as you could.
It actually helped a bit, as it had back then.
When you pulled open the door, you froze like a deer in headlights.
Heeseung stared up at you with wide eyes from where he was sitting; he was the only one left in the class, which you hadn’t counted on.
He wasn’t waiting for you, was he?
“Um…” You trailed off and slowly turned to leave again, but he was already out of his seat, making his way toward you.
Jesus—
You were hardly ever standing next to each other, so facing him head-on at his tall stature was intimidating, even with his cardigan and those nerdy glasses of his. Perhaps it also had to do with the unfamiliar look in his eyes and the intense concern in them.
“Are you okay?” He reached out to touch your arm, but you stepped back and caught him by the shoulders, holding him back at arm's length.
Unable to look at him directly, you stared down at your shoes next to his, eyes stinging again as if you didn’t just spend half an hour crying.
Just seeing his face and hearing his voice brought on a flood of confusing emotions.
“Yeah? I-I’m fine,” You insisted.
Even though Heeseung couldn’t see your face, he saw your tears fall onto your sneakers and felt your grip curl into his shoulders.
“___, if it’s something I said or did…” Heeseung’s voice went soft, and you nearly jumped when you felt his hands slide over yours, his thumbs stroking comfortingly over your skin, “You can tell me.”
His mere touch slowly brought your anxiety down, one stroke of his thumb after the other— at the same time, it sent shivers along your skin.
It’s what you didn’t say or do.
Fear threatened to cut your voice off completely. You took several deep breaths, trying to sort out your thoughts so that you could properly convey how you were feeling.
Here was your chance to be honest with him from the get-go. It was scary, but you needed to try.
“I consider you as someone who I’m really grateful for, Heeseung. Especially after how much of your time you’ve given me this semester,” You sighed, glancing up at him even though your vision was blurry, “You’re a really talented guy. It’s just impossible to get to know you because you like to keep to yourself. I think I understand why you do. Even I don’t like letting other people in all the time...”
Something seemed to click in his mind at your words; you saw his lips part ever so slightly in realization, his eyes widening a fraction.
“... But it’s still hard to be on the receiving end of that. However, if that’s where you want me,” You pulled your hands out of his, letting them drop to your side, “Then there’s not much I can do about that.”
Quietly, you brushed past him and packed your backpack in a hurry to leave.
Heeseung fell silent behind you, and when you left him, you kept your eyes trained on the floor.
The next day, you remained in a foul mood as you chose to sit on the opposite side of your table to avoid the tension of being next to Heeseung for two hours straight. As you expected, the student who usually sat there confronted you about it.
“Hey, this is my seat. I’ve been sitting here all semester.”
You didn’t care to grant her your full attention and continued typing, “I don’t see your name on it.”
It was definitely a shitty thing to say, but you couldn’t bring yourself to give a damn at that moment.
She was stunned into silence and subsequently stomped over to the next row to take her seat next to Heeseung. There was no doubt that he overheard your confrontation.
Class sped by while you were laser-focused on completing everything you needed to get done for that period— without Heeseung’s help. At least one good thing came out of taking notes and watching Heeseung work these past several weeks; your evolving skill set. You were far from excellent, but you had gotten at least a bit better with the basics.
This time, you didn’t plan on sticking around after class.
It seemed like Heeseung was prepared for you not to because the moment you stood up and bolted to the door, he was already out of his seat, hot on your trail.
Heeseung called out your name.
You ignored him, even as he easily caught up with your pace. His silence yesterday already confirmed all you needed to know about how he felt about you.
He caught your elbow, and you stopped to look him dead in the eye. “What do you think you’re doing? Let go.”
Heeseung immediately released you, “Sorry, I just wanted to talk—“
A menacing force slammed into your back, propelling you straight into Heeseung’s chest. Someone halfway down the hall called out a sarcastic apology, but it barely registered— you were startled by how Heeseung steadied you against his hard body.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” You scowled, already shaking his hands off despite your body aching at the feeling of him so near, “What did you want now?”
Heeseung‘s eyes wavered, but he managed to hold your scrutinizing gaze.
“Do you want to grab dinner?”
He really felt the pressure of an impending ‘no’ when all you did was stare at him.
You frowned, “What?”
Heeseung gulped but continued, “You don’t have any other classes for the day, right? There’s a really good Thai place just on the edge of campus, and their Pad Thai is the best— at least within a 20-mile radius.”
Was he doing this all of a sudden because he pitied you?
“You don’t need to do this.”
Heeseung looked like he was on the verge of panicking, but just as quickly, a sense of determination overcame him.
He took a step forward, “But what if I want to?”
You looked off to the side, “I’m confused. Why all of a sudden?”
“I know it’s like I’m doing this out of the blue,” He sounded in a rush due to nerves, so he slowed down his speech, “I’m not good with words, and it’s true that I’m easily distracted by my classes. But I do care about you, ___.”
Your chest throbbed as he peered down at you from under his lashes with furrowed brows, “I know I’m usually pretty distant, and I can’t make up for everything in a night, but I really would like to talk with you over dinner… only if you want to join me.”
Heeseung’s expression appeared so hopeful, and his gaze held an amount of tenderness that had you shifting your weight under the unusual attention you were receiving.
What was that look he was giving you?
He felt you brush by him, and he hung his head.
Heeseung felt his stomach twist with guilt, he knew you wouldn’t give him a chance after how he’d been treating you—
“… Fine.”
Heeseung straightened up with wide eyes and turned to face you as you set off in the completely wrong direction.
“It’s this way,” He eagerly called after you.
You came to a quick halt, then turned back around, crossing your arms, “Lead the way then.”
He smiled to himself when he heard the unmistakable sound of your stomach grumbling ever so faintly.
Walking across campus with Heeseung was convenient because the majority of people made plenty of room for the two of you, all thanks to the giant by your side. Usually, they’d have no issue bumping shoulders with you or overlooking you.
Must be nice to be able to part seas of people, you thought enviously.
Heeseung remained quiet for the majority of the walk except for mentioning a direction here and there. All the while, you were trying to anticipate what Heeseung might have to say to you once you got to the restaurant.
The sky grew to be a deep orange by the time you entered the quaint Thai restaurant at the front of the campus. A simple aqua blue neon sign that read 01 Thai shone across asphalt above an old, cream colored building. While you considered their signature menu options, you turned Heeseung’s words over in your head.
“I do care about you, ___.”
Do you really?
“And what would you like to order?” The cashier asked you.
“Oh. I guess I’ll try the Pad Thai.”
“Anything to drink?”
“Just water, please,” You absentmindedly dug in your pocket to hand over your card, but Heeseung was already handing over his.
Your brows drew together as you quietly glanced up at him, not wanting to make a scene.
He gave you a nervous smile, “My treat.”
You looked over your shoulder for seating, “I’ll Venmo you later.”
“No need,” He shook his head, guiding you to a corner table.
“I will.”
Even from across the small wooden table, Heeseung sensed your lingering discomfort, understandably. He looked like he wanted to say something, but so did you, so he waited.
After a contemplative moment, you met his eyes and folded your hands on the table. “Heeseung, don’t tell me you're doing all this just because you feel bad.”
“No— I mean, in a way, yes. I know how I can be, and I’m sorry that you had to deal with that. I never meant to hurt you the way I did.”
I really did emotionally throw up on him yesterday, and his silence didn’t make it any better. Even now, I still feel high-strung about the whole ordeal, but he seems sorry about it…
“Listen, I get that you feel guilty, but if you really do just want to be friends, there’s no need for anything crazy. Just talking would be nice to start.”
“Right...” He stared right at you.
Your brows knit together once more at the uncertainty in his voice.
“Right,” Heeseung repeated, almost to himself, “That’s doable. Although guilt plays a significant part in driving me to do what I’m doing… Please know it’s not my only motivator.”
Heeseung startled you when he reached out to take one of your hands in his. You still looked utterly confused, so he exhaled softly before squeezing your hand and running the pad of his thumb along your knuckles, just like he did back in class.
Goosebumps immediately broke out on your skin from the heat of his touch.
Oh.
Behind his glasses, his eyes were intent; you had his full attention. “I’ve been really out of touch with people these days, and I regret it. However, I had some personal things I was working through. It’s not an excuse, but I do care about you, ___. I hope you can eventually find a way to forgive me.”
At his sudden admittance, your heart rate began to pick up. Immediately you hated how vulnerable his words made you feel, but that also meant that they were real. His forwardness rendered you genuinely speechless; even your mind drew a blank.
It seemed like he could sense it.
“I-I see,” You stared at your daintier hand in his own, then looked back up at Heeseung’s keen gaze.
His brows drew together, and his lips curled upwards ever so slightly, “Am I making you nervous?” He sounded like he was making a discovery.
Heat immediately flooded your face once more, and you took your hand back out of embarrassment.
He gnawed on his lip, his eyelids lowering a fraction, “Sorry.”
A waitress pulled up to your table with a tray of steaming bowls, and Heeseung thanked the waitress as she left while you reached for a pair of chopsticks.
“What kind of question is that?” You mumbled while you picked at your noodles. Your brain was failing to make sense of Heeseung’s feelings towards you.
He didn’t let up.
“You make me really nervous, ___,” Heeseung dared to reveal in a low voice.
As he expected, his declaration drew your attention back to him. Your eyes narrowed at Heeseung, who wore a small yet knowing smile, clearly trying to get a rise out of you.
Is this really the same guy who chased me down to grab dinner with him?
Little did you know the boy sitting across from you was attuned to your every movement— from the quickened pace of your breath to the twitch of your leg when his knee brushed against yours underneath the table.
Naturally, he would be after spending so much time at your side for the past couple of months, taking note of your little habits and mannerisms.
He also knew you’d be skeptical for a while after this, that it would take time to prove his sincerity once more. Heeseung was willing to overcome that by any means.
When Heeseung realized he had stunned you into silence, he finally looked down at his own plate. “I’m sorry, I’ll stop teasing. Let’s eat before it gets cold.”
“Agreed,” You were grateful for the change of subject because you just barely survived his sudden undivided attention. Also, you were beyond famished.
All the while, your mouth was watering at the sight of the food, so you took a bite of the Pad Thai and savored the flavorful spices on your tongue. It was pretty damn good, Heeseung had taste. One bite of noodles, and suddenly, you felt as though you were gaining back your senses.
He’s kind of flirty, isn’t he?
After several more bites and a nice gulp of cold water, you felt ready to hold a proper conversation.
“Don’t bullshit me anymore, Heeseung,” You commented, propping your chin up on your palm.
He chuckled softly, and you squinted his way.
“I’ll try my best, ___.”
Over dinner, Heeseung allowed you to delve into his mind, which was certainly a treat.
Not without difficulty, of course.
His answers remained vague unless you pressed further; it was like pulling teeth, but you could tell he was trying. With enough persistence, he divulged you.
“Do you just really like to keep a low profile?” You asked, referencing his deflection of your attempts at conversing with him during class, “I mean, I figured you just found me annoying.”
Heeseung slowly began, “I wasn’t in the best headspace this semester. Things at my old job weren’t going well at all, and those issues combined with the stress of my classes resulted in me feeling very closed off from my surroundings.”
You scratched your cheek. “I see. How does that usually affect you?”
“I tend to isolate myself under pressure, and it becomes difficult for me to connect with… well, those around me,” Heeseung explained, running his fingers back and forth over the grain of the tabletop.
“Hm, that’s tough. Honestly, you always seem like you have your shit together.”
Heeseung shook his head, “It’s… a facade of sorts.”
“Well, a lot of people have one,” Your eyes wandered down to your plate, it had been scraped clean for a while.
The shop was empty save for you two, it must’ve been growing closer to closing time, what with the moonlight shining through the windows.
“Yeah? What’s yours?”
Ah, now it’s his turn to take a shot at me.
Being vulnerable was difficult, especially with all of Heeseung’s attention on you. Silence fell over you two, but he waited, even when it felt like you weren’t going to speak.
“Probably enjoying being alone. Not that I don’t, but it depends on how I’m feeling that day. I see independence and loneliness as two sides of the same coin.”
It was the truth, to an extent. You enjoyed the benefits of being independent, but there was a fine line between that and being lonely.
“It’s a normal human thing to go through,” You shrugged.
It’s how I’ve always been, and it usually keeps me safe. But I can’t believe I just admitted that to another person, let alone Heeseung. Though that’s the whole point of this conversation, isn’t it?
“Um, anyways…“
“I’m sorry if I ever made you feel lonely.”
Your eyes flitted to Heeseung’s expression; he seemed cautious yet sincere.
“Don’t be. It’s not your responsibility to make me feel otherwise.”
It was a difficult realization to come to, and as such, you gave a detached response. In due time you’d have to see if he meant everything that he said.
With an inward sigh, you felt disappointment replace the anger that had been slowly filtering out of your system for the past hour. Heeseung was willing to try to be friends, which was more than you could’ve asked for, so deep down, you fought your desire for him. You were being given the chance to take things day by day and come to terms with the reality of your situation.
“Besides, being lonely is a good skill to have. It’s weird to say out loud, but I really think it is,” You stated, glancing out the window into the dimly lit streets, “It’s useful and easier than most people think.”
When Heeseung said nothing in response, you turned to look at him once more, wanting to hear his voice.
Something from him, anything.
Instead, you met those dark brown eyes behind his glasses; they contained a mix of something you couldn’t place and a tinge of sadness, but most surprisingly– knowing.
You fidgeted with the hairband on your wrist. “What? What’s wrong?”
Heeseung spoke, “Nothing… What do you mean?”
His question seemed hollow as if he feigned confusion; his eyes told you everything yet nothing, all at once– like he could see right through you.
You shook your head, voice coming out as a whisper, “I don’t know… You’re making me nervous again.”
“Sorry,” Heeseung blinked and shifted his eyes elsewhere, and suddenly you felt like you could breathe, but just barely.
He distractedly removed his glasses to pinch at his nose bridge, and that’s when your breath caught in your chest.
A slight smile tugged at your lips, “Hey, you look different without your glasses.” You were apt to change the subject.
“Oh, really?” Heeseung moved to adjust them back in place quickly.
“Wait,” you leaned over the table and placed your hand on his to stop him, wanting a better look, “You look really handsome. Not that you don’t with them on, but….”
Heeseung noted how intrigued you looked, the fascination brightening your features. It was certainly a contrast to the way you regarded him just a moment before. “I’ve worn glasses my whole life. I don’t look odd without them?”
“No, but I think you’re cute either way—“ You curiously brushed a strand of hair out of his eyes, and his brows rose in surprise.
Upon realizing what you had done, you promptly sat back in your seat and stuffed your hands in your pockets.
“I— You just look different,” You tried to cover up your embarrassment with a smile.
You hadn’t intended on getting touchy, but you just couldn't help it. Then again, he comfortably initiated way more physical contact with you today than he had all semester.
Heeseung quietly glanced off to the side, and then his eyes were back on you without a moment’s notice, observing.
Ah, there’s that churning sensation in my stomach again.
Even though you could see his eyes clear as day, you couldn’t read him as easily this time.
“Thanks,” His eyes flitted away as he fixed his glasses back in place.
Uh-oh. Did I mess up? Did I turn him off by touching his hair? Or with my comments on his appearance?
“We better go, I think they’re closing,” You rubbed your cheek while throwing your backpack over your shoulder, “Thank you for dinner.”
“Sure. Thanks for hearing me out… and for sharing,” Heeseung led you to the door and held it open for you.
His voice sounded odd, almost tight.
“Yeah...”
It had been a rollercoaster of a day so far; you weren’t sure what kind of note you were going to end it on.
The brisk night air hit your skin and made you shudder. You turned towards the bus stop across the street, anticipating an arrival soon, “I’m headed over here. I guess I’ll see you in class?”
When you glanced back over your shoulder, Heeseung was looking after you in such a way that caused you to freeze. His demeanor had shifted from the start of dinner to now like there was a barely tamed intensity about him. He felt unpredictable— he even seemed on edge.
What was going on? Maybe you really stepped on his toes earlier with your comment about his glasses. It certainly wasn’t your intention; you meant it as a compliment.
He could’ve been self-conscious about it, you idiot!
Heeseung gave you a curt nod, “Get home safely, okay?”
You frowned.
“Okay…” You paused before giving him a quick hug.
Next to free food and a bit of communication, hugs diffused most escalating situations, right?
But even to you, it felt like a blur; you barely gave him enough time to return it, and then you were slipping out of his grasp just as quickly as you had drawn close.
“Bye,” You whispered.
Taken aback, Heeseung dropped his arms to his sides as he watched you jog across the street to board the bus that arrived a moment before and nearly took off without you.
He inhaled deeply.
Now, his whole body ached.
Oh, he hated you even more for that.
The cold suddenly seeped into his skin. It hadn’t affected him until you left his side.
Your bus took off just as his phone faintly vibrated in his pocket. He lost count of how many times it had gone off during his dinner with you, but he hardly paid it any attention. He ignored it for the past two months but couldn’t bring himself to block the number.
Finally, he decided to answer it.
“Heeseung! Do you know how many times I’ve called you today? And the day before? Over the past eight fucking weeks? We were supposed to meet–”
“I was at dinner—” Heeseung immediately kicked himself for even sparing an excuse. There was no need to anymore. “Please stop calling me.”
His thumb hovered over the button to hang up and block her number; he should’ve done it earlier.
“Don’t do this to me, love.”
Anger slithered up his veins, “How else do you expect me to act after all that you’ve done?”
“What you saw wasn’t what it looked like—“
Beep—
That’s what she’d said in the hundreds of voicemails she left, or so he guessed. Listening to one was sufficient.
From that day on, Heeseung dialed back on the forwardness he displayed in terms of physical contact with you, and you couldn’t figure out why for the life of you. However, your conversations in class were plentiful and on friendlier terms, save for the interesting underlying tension that persisted through his frequent teasing comments and lasting stares.
That’s not to say there was a complete absence of flirtatious touching, he simply wasn’t as outright with it. But you noted each subtle instance with amusement whether it was a tap on the shoulder, a bump to the knee or an accidental brush of hands when he’d reach for your mouse.
He seemed somewhat back to normal compared to how you left him that one night, but something definitely changed between you two.
On the other hand, you soon discovered the breadth of his sense of humor. The off-handed, dry comments he’d whisper about some odd gesture or explanation the professor would make had you snorting in your seat— turns out you weren’t the only one who occasionally got annoyed with the way your professor taught.
Even so, together, you both managed.
Thai food after class became a routine for you both, a couple of times a week. Ever since Heeseung made an effort to open up, sometimes you’d talk up until the last bus was available for you to catch if he didn’t have work, and other times, you’d work on assignments together.
For every question you asked him, it tickled you that he had one for you of equal measure. These brief moments with Heeseung stood out from your otherwise mundane campus life. Unfortunately, things didn’t always go according to plan.
One evening, a meeting with your advisor concerning your schedule for next semester ran over time significantly and you were 30 minutes late to your dinner at 01 Thai with Heeseung.
The frigid air lashed across your face the moment you stepped outside the administration building causing you to wince. It was an evening filled with storm clouds, and the sun had long set; it was starting to get darker earlier in the day. You reached into your pocket to update Heeseung on your whereabouts but let out a frustrated grunt when you realized your phone had died on you.
Fuck.
The restaurant was on the complete other side of campus so you decided to cut through a back way that was a bit more obscure but quicker than usual. The first droplets of rain hit your skin before it turned into an outright downpour by the time you were half way across campus.
Just my luck.
There weren’t a whole lot of shaded areas along the buildings in the back route you took so you braced yourself through the chill until the droplets began to feel like ice pellets. It was too much so you chose to take shelter when you came upon the first shaded area that came into view near the back exit of a building.
Something on the floor caught your eye as you quickly approached. A dog with soaked fur was curled up on its stomach and appeared to be breathing irregularly. On instinct, you kneeled down to run your hand over its fur, and it let out a thin whine.
“Oh, you poor thing. Where’s your owner?”
You felt along its furry chin for a tag and found purchase in a sleek, black collar. However, there was no tag with an owner's contact to be found.
Maybe it’s a high-tech tracking collar?
With your back against the wall, you slid down to sit for a moment, enduring the mist that the wind blew against you both, cradling the dog close. “I don’t think the rain will let up any time soon… You don’t wanna come with? You just wanna stay here and wait for your owner, huh?”
The dog merely blinked up at you.
“Alright, then you need this more than I do. Hopefully they’re just around the corner…”
You shrugged off your jacket and used it to dry off the pup a bit before swaddling it in the fabric. After you finished and went to scratch its chin, it licked your palm non-stop.
“You’re welcome,” You stood up with a giggle and readjusted your backpack. Although it was storming, if you let Heeseung wait any longer it would give him the wrong idea.
You received stares from other students the moment you stepped through the restaurant doors since the single layer of your T-shirt was soaked through. Immediately you crossed your arms over your chest but made a beeline towards Heeseung who sat in the corner.
He looked you over with concern.
You couldn’t help but stutter from the cold, “S-sorry. My meeting ran late with my advisor and my phone died—“
“It’s okay, I figured. Weren’t you wearing a jacket in class earlier?”
“I—I may have given it away…”
“To who?”
“To a dog I saw on the way here…?”
You realized how ridiculous it sounded once you said it out loud, but the soft spot you had towards canines made you do silly things from time to time.
Heeseung raised a brow at that, “Did you just lose it?”
“Sure, I lost it on this awfully cold day, ” You rolled your eyes.
Heeseung shook his head with a snort, and tugged his hoodie over his head, “Well, why don’t you change out of that?”
A chill racked through your body but you brushed it off, until you glanced down to see your shirt plastered to your body and around the prominent outline of your black bra.
“Um….”
“Here,” Heeseung deposited his hoodie into your arms before you could refuse, “I’ll ask them for a plastic bag to hold your clothing. Your food just came out, so go change.”
“Thanks.”
As you ignored the stares from others occupying the restaurant and clicked the restroom door shut, you gave yourself a once over in the mirror.
There really wasn’t a spot on you that wasn’t damp. You stripped out of your top and bra then proceeded to squeeze them out over the sink before tossing them into a plastic bag. You dried down as much as you could with a wad of paper towels then tugged Heeseung’s hoodie over your head.
Immediately, you were enveloped by his scent; a light sweetness with new undertones of soft musk you hadn’t detected before. The fabric was still warm against your skin with his body heat which made you feel odd.
You slowly tugged the collar up to your nose then dropped the fabric abruptly.
Let’s not make this weird. It certainly beats being cold and wet.
Heeseung eyed you once you remerged. “I ate already and was about to go looking for you to drop off your food.”
You plopped down across from him. “Yeah, sorry. Do you have to go soon?”
He glanced at his phone screen. “In about 10 minutes, for work. I’ll hang out for a while, though.”
“You don’t wanna work on an assignment while I eat?”
Heeseung pressed his cheek against his palm and leaned onto his elbow, his languid eyes on you, “Mm-mm.”
You stared at him before proceeding to shovel the tasty noodles into your mouth, “Okay.”
Heeseung chuckled, “How’d your meeting go?”
“Fine, I guess. My advisor thought he screwed up and almost made me think I had to take an extra two classes, but we straightened that out. I’m on track, and I’ll have a decent load to finish off next semester since it’s my last.”
Heeseung looked like he was in thought as you shared your schedule with him.
“None of those classes ring a bell.”
That fact bummed you out, more than you’d ever show. “Oh, really? What’s your semester looking like next year?”
“Hm, since it’s my last semester too, I’m thinking of going for an internship, it’s about time.”
You dabbed at your lips with a napkin, “That’s actually really good. I need to do that…”
“It’ll help when you apply for jobs, for sure.”
The impending doom of your future weighed heavily on your shoulders, and Heeseung seemed to notice you suddenly felt burdened.
“So, you like dogs?”
You glanced up mid-chew, “I do!”
“Did you really give a dog your jacket?” Heeseung squinted.
“Would you believe me if I said yes?”
“Maybe the second time around,” He was amused at how you pouted, “What breeds do you like?”
“I like all breeds. The funniest dogs are ones that are like humans. During last thanksgiving there was this one dog at my aunt’s that wouldn’t let me pet him at first. So, I let him be and sat in the living room alone, but every so often he would saunter in and get closer to me every time,” You laughed at the memory, “Then eventually he got so close, I just stuck my hand out and he pressed up against me for pets. Finicky but adorable…”
Heeseung cleared his throat, and wore a sheepish expression, “Sounds like it… You don’t own any dogs?”
“Not yet. I’m saving up and waiting ‘till I’m done with school. I want to be able to give it the attention it deserves.”
“I think that’s smart.”
You sighed, “Yeah… I wish I had one.”
As you finished your food, Heeseung finally said what was truly on his mind.
“You should be more careful about walking around campus without a working phone. It gets dark faster these days,” He began.
His scolding caught you off guard.
“I am cautious, I’m not dumb,” You interrupted, “And I didn’t mean to. I would’ve charged it in the library or something but I didn’t want to keep you waiting—“
“It would’ve been fine if you left me waiting a little longer to do that. It’s such a big campus where anything could happen when you least expect it, so you should always have your phone on,” Heeseung motioned for you to hand over your phone, “And I know you know that.”
You pouted but dropped it into his hand, and he connected it to a portable charger he took out of his backpack, “Alright, mother.”
Heeseung sighed but gave you a small smile anyways.
“Are you still at your old job or did you start your new one already?” You asked since Heeseung felt at liberty to say what he wanted.
Heeseung’s eyes turned troubled. “Still there. Just for a little while longer.”
You pressed, “Where do you work?”
Heeseung’s lips parted to answer but he seemed to think better of it.
“It’s not the greatest place,” Heeseung checked his phone and stood up, “Sorry, I’ve gotta go. See you.”
You bit your tongue. “Won’t you get all wet if you’re walking to work?”
“Uber,” was all he said with a tight smile, “Don’t worry about it. Get home safe.”
Heeseung left you his charger as he stepped outside into the rain, the deep slope of his shoulders inciting a sense of regret in you. Perhaps you shouldn’t have pushed him on the topic when it was clearly sensitive for him. He didn’t deserve your snappy attitude after he expressed his worry for you either… but you knew he wouldn’t hold you to it because that’s the kind of person he was.
When you weren’t grabbing dinner with Heeseung, there were evenings when you would pour over your studies and meet Rin in the library, like you always had.
“So, how are your otome games going? On to the next one?” She questioned.
Oh shit. You’ve been neglecting your pixel husbands basically since the start of the semester—
“I actually haven’t touched any games in a while.”
“Really now?” Rin seemed unsurprised at such a revelation as she continued, “How about that coding class? These days you seem less stressed about it….”
“Yeah, I finally picked up a thing or two. There’s actually this guy who’s been—“
Rin jumped out of her seat and pointed at you accusingly, the screech of her chair drawing annoyed looks from other students.
“I’ve been fucking waiting for you to bring him up!”
Your eyes widened, “Wait, how do you—”
“Shhhh!” Someone hushed.
You both put your heads together and dropped your voices to a whisper.
“How do you know Heeseung?”
Rin explained everything in detail, perhaps too much detail. Figuring out Heeseung consulted her the day you cried in front of him made your face burn.
Apparently, he hung out enough in the library to recognize Rin as your friend, although you certainly had never seen him while studying.
“Truthfully, at first, I was mad at the guy for upsetting you; the dude was too honest for his own good and actually told me he was in deep shit with you. I nearly caused a scene in here, but he seemed really apologetic and genuine about wanting to make things right with you.
So, I told him food was the way to your heart, but I warned him you’d be a little stuck up about paying for yourself. Seriously, you have the weirdest eating schedule just to achieve ‘optimal efficiency’ and avoid ‘brain fog’ or whatever,” Rin grinned.
Well, she wasn’t wrong. Free food definitely helped on top of everything else Heeseung managed to pull off since then.
“I appreciate that, but I can’t believe you knew about everything the entire time,” You felt a tad guilty for not looping her in on the situation, having thought she would’ve teased you about it, “And that he actually went out of his way to ask you about me….”
You couldn’t help but look at him a little differently now. He was serious.
“Well, I only knew what happened up until that day, but you seemed better these past several weeks, so it looks like my advice worked.”
You slid further into your seat and stared up at the ceiling, “Yeah, I suppose it did.”
“I didn’t want to ruin anything, so I stayed quiet. He’s very cute,” She grinned at you.
You paused, “We’re just friends.”
“What? All that drama for a friendship?”
“Hm…”
Rin rose an impeccably plucked brow at you.
“Yes,” You sighed, patting her head.
Your friend pouted, “I would’ve guessed otherwise, girl. There’s still time, though.”
Was there?
Soon enough, another month had flown by— finals were around the corner, and both you and Heeseung were typing up code for your class project when you ran into your first distressing issue in a while.
You called to him without taking your eyes off the screen, “Hey, something’s off, and I can’t figure out what. I swear if it’s just an extra period somewhere, I’m gonna—“
Heeseung was at your side in a heartbeat, “Let me see.”
You scooted your chair over to make room for his, but he got comfortable on the floor. “Stop kneeling. You know you’re gonna permanently fuck up your kneecaps, right?”
“I’m used to it,” He said simply before he froze up as if he had said something wrong.
Assuming that he was poking at you, you scoffed, “I don’t ask you for help that often anymore, Hee.”
Heeseung cleared his throat and got to work on your code, “No, I know.”
While you waited for him to finish diagnosing the issue, you secretly inhaled his familiar, comforting scent of sweet lavender out of habit.
You saw him smirk out of the corner of your eye.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Seriously, what?”
He shrugged, “You’re doing that thing you do every time I get close.”
Fuck. When did he even– Fuck—
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The tapping of keys halted.
A mischievous lilt made its way into his voice as he faced you, “We’re gonna go that route?”
“Yes. Yes, we are because you are not going to out me here,” You hissed under your breath.
“Ha, so you admit that you do take a whiff—“
You took hold of his jaw and forced him to face your computer screen, “Focus.”
Heeseung eyes darkened, but he let out a chuckle.
You were pressing two fingers to your temple and looking anywhere but at him, so you failed to notice. For the moment, you put aside your pride and stayed quiet until he figured out what the hell was wrong with your project.
God, how embarrassing.
A few keyboard and mouse clicks later, and Heeseung was settling back into his seat. “It was an extra period on line 976.”
“Of course it was,” You rolled your eyes and heard him laugh even harder. He was quick to figure out how often he could test your patience…
“Why do you always smell like pastries?” Your sudden question came out as an accusation.
At this point in your friendship, you found yourself blurting out random things that were on your mind when with Heeseung, and he managed to learn how to go with the flow.
“I bake in my spare time,” He said, clearly amused.
You gawked at the new discovery, “I—I guess that explains it….”
“I’ve always baked, it’s sort of just a hobby I never thought to share.”
You swore there was always something to learn about the guy, even at the quick rate that you’d gotten to know him.
“Well, what do you do with all the stuff you make? Keep them all for yourself?” You jabbed at Heeseung.
“No, I just…” His voice quietly tapered off, so you were unable to catch his last words.
“You what?”
“I’ll just give it away to the homeless on the street if I deem it edible,” He muttered.
“Huh,” You turned to Heeseung, “That’s actually really sweet.”
“It’s nothing,” He pressed his lips together and continued, “By the way, I just started my new job, and my shift is in the evening, so… we’re going to have to postpone Thai nights.”
“Oh. You started your new job finally?” Your heart and stomach dropped; you were so looking forward to it before you’d have to really buckle down for finals, “I guess we’ll have to postpone them. The timing, though….”
Postpone them until when? The two of you had completely different tracks from here on out. Would he even want to hang out with you next semester when there was nothing else to bind your schedules together?
Heeseung leaned over to rest his elbows on his knees, appearing contemplative while watching you cycle through the endless thoughts in your mind.
“I work at this new cafe about ten minutes away from campus. Do you want to drop by and check it out after class? If you want, you could study there until I get off, and then we can have dinner at my place.”
Dinner at his place?
He saw the way your eyes blew up, and he couldn’t tell if it was in shock or excitement.
“Don’t feel pressured, it was just a thought,” Heeseung brushed off a piece of lint on your knee, his touch lingering, “I get off at around 10:00, so it’d be a later-than-usual dinner.”
“S-sure,” Your voice pitched unusually high, and you nearly threw up in your mouth.
Geez, calm down!
Heeseung looked pleased as he stood up from his desk and slung his backpack over his shoulder, “Shall we?”
The moment you stepped foot in the new cafe, your body appreciated the drastic change in temperature inside, the weather was extremely chilly these days. Didn’t change the fact that you’d order something iced, though.
“Take a look at the menu, I need to get changed, and I’ll be right out to make you something to drink,” Heeseung ushered you further into the store, his hand at your lower back.
“No problem,” You held Heeseung’s warm gaze and forgot to breathe.
As Heeseung set off to the back, you exhaled and took in the bright, cozy interior of the cafe along with its high ceilings. Evening light filtered through the tall windows, casting the whole place in warmth.
What a nice cafe to work at. I could study here more often too.
The aroma of ground coffee beans and sweet pastries filled your nose, causing your brain to perk up at the thought of caffeine even though it was evening. The people that occupied the space were relatively quiet– the seats were mainly filled with a few students and young professionals.
An empty table was waiting for you in the corner, so you set down your belongings there and pulled out your wallet. Curious about their menu, you returned to the counter to consider the items.
A handsome, light-haired young man eagerly approached from behind the bar upon seeing you, “Hi there! What can I get for you?”
Your brain raced for an answer even though you were supposed to wait for Heeseung. “Um, I’ll try the iced matcha latte….”
“Perfect,” He gave you a thousand-watt smile, “Anything else I can get you? We have macarons that we bake daily.”
“Sure,” You considered the colorful rows of macarons behind the glass counter, “I’ll try a lavender one and a vanilla bean.”
As the boy picked out your macarons, you imagined how Heeseung might look like working his shift here, from his mannerisms to his barista skills and if he dealt with customers easily or not. It was something you’d never thought of previously since you had no clue about his work.
“I threw in a couple of other popular flavors on the house,” the boy gave you a wink, making you blush unexpectedly.
“Oh, thank you so much!”
The barista took a step to his right without taking his eyes off you and bumped right into Heeseung, who suddenly appeared. You noticed he looked especially cute in his work uniform, somehow fitting your exact image of how a barista would look in his white button-down and his chestnut-colored apron. A smile made its way onto your face; his glasses completed the coffee connoisseur look.
“Sorry, man—“
“Hey, no worries. I’ll ring her up,” Your eyes widened at the slight insistence in Heeseung’s voice that left no room for argument, “Jake, meet ___.”
“Hey,” Jake gave you a little wave, despite looking a bit confused at why Heeseung intercepted.
“___, this is my friend Jake. He also goes to our University,” He mentioned while tinkering with the cash register.
You took out your card and gave Jake a shy smile, “Oh, nice. Great to meet you.”
He winked at you, “Likewise.”
Apparently, only hot people work here, you surmised.
You thought you saw Heeseung pout at the exchange between you and Jake, but whether or not he actually did, he ignored your card and handed over your bag of macarons, swiftly stepping away to prepare your drink.
“Wait, I need to pay—“
“I’ve got you. It’ll just be a few minutes,” he called over his shoulder and got to work.
Your cheeks grew warm.
Why did he have to act so sweet sometimes?
“I mean, I knew you had a girlfriend, but you should’ve told me she was dropping by,” Jake chuckled as he pulled up by Heeseung’s side.
“She’s not my girlfriend.”
“She’s not?” Jake questioned.
“But I’m interested in her,” Heeseung clarified while frothing your matcha latte a bit too aggressively.
“Aw,” Jake moped, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed, “That’s too bad, she’s kinda….”
When it went silent, Jake playfully glanced over at Heeseung, who was staring him down. He slapped him on the back, “Only messing with you, dude.”
“Right.”
Just as you finished unpacking and settling in at the corner table, Heeseung approached with your matcha latte in hand and set it down in front of you.
“That was quick,” You felt giddy getting the special treatment.
“Give it a try, and let me know if it needs anything.”
You stirred the pretty green liquid with the straw and took a sip, glancing up at Heeseung as you did so. Heeseung bit his lip and tilted his head expectantly.
“It’s perfect.”
“Good, just let me know if you need anything,” He smiled, but before he could leave, you caught his sleeve.
“Wait, have a macaron before you go. Jake gave me a lot,” You randomly chose the dusty pink one that smelled like roses and held it up for him to take.
Instead, he drew close, placing his hand on the back of your chair to steady himself, parted his lips, and waited. You glanced up at him to check if he was joking, but the glimmer in his eye said otherwise.
Woah—
Brain on autopilot, you fed it to him, and he took a bite out of the fresh macaron.
He licked at his lips and smirked at you, “Thanks.”
After he disappeared behind the counter, you dropped your forehead into your hand, flabbergasted. You just knew your face was so red.
This crazy ass—
What, did he expect you to finish the remainder of the macaron?
This was too much for you to handle– Heeseung was too much for you to handle today.
And, of course, you finished it.
Two hours flew by at your table while you were jamming to some nostalgic tunes in your own little world while studying for your upcoming finals.
Feeling the urge to stretch, you took off your headphones and extended your stiff limbs with a wince.
Condensation ran down your empty glass of matcha, and you had finished nibbling on your macarons earlier. Besides the lavender and vanilla flavors you had chosen, the rose one was pretty aromatic, and the other strawberries and cream flavor Jake picked out for you was delicious. The snacks certainly whet your appetite, and now you were more than looking forward to having dinner with Heeseung… at his place.
You peered at Heeseung over the top of your laptop as he kept busy behind the espresso bar; Jake was a very charismatic cashier, as you experienced first-hand, while Heeseung was rather efficient at serving up beverages and hopping in to take orders when needed. They seemed to handle themselves well as a team, as far as you could tell from the past couple of hours.
Girls and guys often wandered in to gawk at the two, and you completely understood why. Nonetheless, it didn’t help the surge of discomfort you felt when you caught two girls checking Heeseung out from behind. There was nothing you could do but seethe in your seat.
Relax. They’re not the ones headed home with him tonight.
Ah, that reminder helped, sort of.
Now you were feeling antsy about the fact that Heeseung had invited you over in the first place. There was no way you prepared in any way, shape or form with how little heads up he gave you, but you couldn’t have easily passed up the opportunity to get a look at his place and spend more time with him.
And if he baked, he had to be a good cook, no?
The chatty girls ended up being the last customers to leave the cafe, except for you in the corner, partially anxious but mostly content because you were alone, and so was Heeseung.
After a quiet period, you were drawn from your studies when a woman who stood out from the average patron strolled into the cafe. She was dressed well enough to convince you that she was a model or at least an influencer of sorts, especially by the confident way she held herself.
Jake welcomed her warmly, and you were about to slip your headphones back on when you heard her speak, “Hello. Does Heeseung work here?”
“Yeah! Do you want me to get him for you? He’s prepping food in the back.”
“Please.”
Who is she? A friend?
Jake made his way to the back kitchens. “Hey, Heeseung! Someone’s here to see you!”
“One sec,” You heard Heeseung call.
The woman stood calmly and patiently at the counter; she appeared to be in her mid-twenties and looked sharp in all-black fashion with a set of alluring, shadowy eyes. An uneasy feeling passed through your stomach at the way she suddenly rolled her shoulders and neck— you couldn’t put a finger on it, but if it involved Heeseung, you didn’t like it.
Heeseung emerged from the kitchen doors, and you became deeply concerned at how his face went stoic upon seeing the mysterious woman. Jake sensed something was off as well and looked back and forth between the two.
“Hi. I hope I caught you at a good time. As you know, I’ve been wanting to chat,” Her tone was overtly sweet.
Heeseung rounded the counter and approached her, dropping his voice to an inaudible murmur.
Whispers were exchanged between them; you focused on trying to read their lips, but it was difficult. They were familiar with each other, that much you could tell. However, they couldn’t have looked like more complete opposites.
Feeling that you were being nosy, you stopped staring and returned to your project at hand, not wanting to overstep any further.
A sharp slap followed by a harsh clatter resounded in the empty cafe, alerting you.
Shocked, your head whipped towards the source of the noise, only to see Heeseung, whose face was angled away from you. Your sights landed on his glasses on the tile floor.
The woman standing in front of him took an easy breath, but the way she flicked her wrist gave away her rage.
Somehow, you were already standing from your seat, crossing the floor, “Excuse me. Did you just–”
The woman kept her eyes trained on Heeseung, “Mind your own business, love.”
Jake jumped in front of you, waving his hands, “Jesus— Easy, easy. I’ll handle this.”
Red filled your vision once your brain registered what had happened, but you had enough sense to stand your ground a safe distance away— for that woman’s sake.
“Get her out of here before I do it myself,” you gritted out.
Jake nodded and was quick to address the woman, “Miss, I’m not sure what’s going on, but you can’t just assault our staff. I’m going to have to ask you to leave immediately due to store policy.”
She eyed you, and her sharp expression slowly morphed into a feigned smile, startling you.
“Just one more thing,” She inclined her chin towards Heeseung, “Then we’ll chat back at my place after you wrap up here, alright, love?”
Heeseung’s gaze flickered at the woman, but he said nothing.
She sauntered up to him, much too close for anyone’s comfort, and reached out to take hold of his chin, her sharp nails gauging into his skin. Stunned, you watched him shut his eyes tightly, how his brows drew together— and then he caught her wrist before she could get any closer.
Heeseung spoke in an extremely deliberate tone, “No. This is the last time I’ll be saying this to you. We’re finished. We’ve been finished. Do you understand?”
As the woman’s fingers curled into a fist, so did yours.
“Leave. If I see you bothering any customers or staff who occupy this space, I’ll let the authorities deal with you,” He warned.
“I’ve taken care of you since we were children, Heeseung.”
The statement took you by surprise.
“We’re done talking,” Heeseung tugged her past you and Jake towards the cafe entrance. She pulled back on his grip, but he remained unfazed.
The two of you watched him take her outside and proceed to lock up the front of the store. Jake quickly followed and began to pull down the blinds as the woman pressed up against the windows. Her eyes slowly dragged over your form in the most demeaning manner.
“Talk about a crazy ex,” Jake murmured to no one in particular, pressing his back against the covered window. You exhaled heavily, speechless at the turn of events.
When you bent over to pick up Heeseung’s glasses and inspect them, you noticed a lens had cracked. One could only imagine how much the slap must’ve stung.
Heeseung touched the small of your back, “I’m really sorry you had to see that.”
Feeling left in the dark, you turned around and gave him a look of confusion, “Exactly how long has it been since you broke up with your ex?”
“Since the start of the semester,” Heeseung answered right away, “This is the first time I’ve seen her since. I don’t know how she found out about my new job.”
“And she still can’t take a hint?” Jake asked while cleaning up behind the register.
