“Everybody was listening to T. S. Eliot then. He said that poetry wasn’t personality, but the escape from personality. They ignored the next sentence, which said that you have to have a personality in the first place to want to escape from. Nobody wanted to hear that.”
— W.D. Snodgrass, from an interview, featured in The Art Of Poetry No. 68 (via writemeanna)
“No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be; Am an attendant lord, one that will do To swell a progress, start a scene or two, Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool, Deferential, glad to be of use, Politic, cautious, and meticulous; Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse; At times, indeed, almost ridiculous— Almost, at times, the Fool.”

my life has gotten exponentially better since I abandoned the “I was once a kid in AP programs and now I’m a subpar to average adult like the rest of the rabble, boohoo, woe is me” mindset and wholeheartedly adopted the fact that I’m a big loud dumbass and I’m going to make it everyone’s problem
Me: this Starbucks drink is nasty
Me: *remembers I paid $6 for it*
Me: My... I've never tasted such an exquisite creation.....
