Hi! Question - I noticed some celebrities can still be funny and joke around and stay active on social media yet still be labeled "introvert". How can you distinguish them from extroverts?
MBTI and Introversion
Introversion in MBTI hasnothing to do with how active you are on the Internet or social media. It meansthat your go-to cognitive process - the one you’re most comfortable with, theone that comes most naturally, the one that energizes you - is introverted.
Introverted functions arecognitive processes that involve a personalizedframe of reference. They take stimuli in the external world and interpretmeaning, truth, and consistency through that individual’s unique, subjective perspective. Basically, you’re taking information that technically everyone can access (objectiveinformation), and running it through your unique personal filter. This is in directcontrast to extroverted functions, which involve an external, objective frame of reference that is free from personal bias.
Lets use Se (Extroverted Sensing) vs. Si (Introverted Sensing) as anexample of this contrast. While Se scans the tangible reality for a plethora of sensations, observations, details, and experiences, Si focuses on your personalized, internalized perception of sensory stimuli. While technically two people coulduse Se to perceive the same thing, Si takes this objective information and adds personal bias to it.
For example, imagine twoexplorers trekking through the rainforest together. All the stimuli they seearound them - the plants, the animals, the sunlight shining through the canopyto the forest floor - is technically visible to both of them. Though one mightnotice a particular rare animal first, once the animal is pointed out the otherperson will be able to perceive the exact same sensory stimulus. This sensorydata is objective, so therefore mutually accessible using Se.
However, the frame ofreference through which each explorer perceives the animal is unique. Oneexplorer might see the animal and immediately be able to classify it as acertain species due to visual and other sensory cues that fit in with thatperson’s prior knowledge and understanding. The other explorer may have neverseen the animal before, but be reminded of the shape or coloring of a childhoodpet. No two people have identical experiences, so no two people will approachobjective stimuli through identical perspectives. Each individual brings a unique context to their perception, and these perceptions are originally only accessible to the individual within which they are created. Therefore, they can only be accessed through Si.
You can apply this samereasoning to the other functions. While Ne, Fe, and Te deal with objective intuitive, humanistic, and logical data, Ni, Fi, and Ti make subjective interpretations of that data unique to each user’s frame of reference. Therefore, these introverted functions inherently add bias and subjectivity to perception or judgment.
So why is interaction withother people draining rather than energizing for individuals with introverteddominant functions?
The more you focus yourenergy inward on processing and interpreting external stimuli, the more taxingit becomes to continue engaging with the outside world (particularly with otherpeople) for long periods of time. More stimuli means more information that mustbe dissected and interpreted. This is why introverts require a good amount ofalone time to recharge - they withdraw to synthesize andevaluate, and then when they’re ready, re-engage with the external world tofind more external stimuli to dissect.
So how do you know if someoneis an introvert? Look at how they recharge their batteries. Does too muchinteraction with other people ultimately drain their energy, causing them tocrave alone time? You’ve got an introvert on their hands. Or does too muchalone time become draining for that individual, causing them to crave thecompany and stimulation of other people, experiences, or other stimulus in order to feel alive? Then you’ve gotan extrovert.
So yeah, to provide an extremely long-winded answer to your question, introversion/extroversion cannot be predicted by behavior on social media.
Well, since I unfollowed a lot of people I need some new blogs to follow. So if you blog about;
- LGBT stuff, whatever it is - Feminism/Social issues - MBTI/Psychology - Animals (puppies, wolves, horses, etc) - Photography/nature - Video games/pokemon - Funny stuff - Did I said gay stuff? - FTWD/Lexark/Clexa/Elyza Lex - Art/aesthetic stuff
Then please like and/or reblog this post so I can check your Tumblr :)
ISFJ: Have you finished your essay?
INTP: I got an extension. I haven’t started it yet. But I can still tell you my idea so it looks like I participated in peer review.
INFP: We need to read our essays aloud, right?
INTP: Yeah.
INFP: *starts reading essay aloud in weird voice*
INTP: *starts rambling about her essay idea*
ISFJ: Oh my god. Guys. You need to stop talking at the same time. I can’t hear anything. Guys. I cannot handle this
I’m upset because I want to change the world but the world is too big and people are too mean
INFP!!!!
The 16 Types as Environments
A variation of the type aesthetics.
-ISFP: A glowing forest, full of beautiful flowers and glowing mushrooms. You can always hear the beautiful songbirds. There are also a lot of fireflies. All of the plants are edible.
-ESFP: A dessert desert. It is very hot, but only to keep the dessert warm. There are lots of Cookieti (cookie cacti) and Caketi (cake cacti), and an ice cream oasis. The ice cream is always very cold, and has many flavors. Marshmallow peep birds and rabbits can be found near the oasis.
-ISTP: A colossal mountain, that seems to pierce the sky. Many have attempted to climb it, few have survived.
-ESTP: A massive canyon, with steep slopes; the tops of the slopes are cliffs that are crumbling. The canyon is in a desert, and no one can be seen for miles.
-ISTJ: A perfectly symmetrical petrified forest. There is a colossal tree in the center. This forest is mysterious because even the animals move symmetrically. All of the trees are evenly spaced from each other. Some say this forest is haunted because if you are in one half of the forest, you can also be seen in the opposite half of the forest at the same time.
-ESTJ: The ruins of an ancient civilization. Its palace is intact and has perfectly preserved artifacts. No one lives here and none of the artifacts may be removed, because they are believed to be protected by ancient spirits.
-ISFJ: A beautiful coniferous forest, surrounding a lake. There are lots of animals here. People live here in log cabins. There are also lots of maple syrup trees. The color of the syrup changes with the seasons.
-ESFJ: A vast meadow of tall grass. It is full of wildlife, and it is very easy to get lost, because it all looks the same. There is plenty of food here so you can easily thrive here. Many people have chosen this place as their home.
-INFP: A miniature planet inside a valley. The planet is connected to the ground by a miniature mountain. It is possible to walk up the mountain and go onto the planet. The planet is alien and filled with strange and wonderful creatures.
-INFJ: A massive cave full of wonders and mysteries. It is said that whoever can reach the very bottom of the cave will receive wonderful gifts. However, skill alone will not help you, nor will luck. There are spirits in this cave, and they decide who may reach the bottom. Only the purest of character survive the journey, and many corrupt individuals have perished in the journey.
-ENFP: A crystalline forest that glitters in every color of the rainbow. There are many mythical creatures here.
-ENFJ: A strange forest filled with magical creatures. Those who enter but are not worthy of its secrets are trapped forever.
-INTJ: A mysterious gulf, that drops straight down into the depths of the ocean. Strange fish can be seen swimming at the surface, and it is said that the very bottom has sunken treasures, guarded by sea monsters.
-ENTP: A strange and ominous tropical rainforest filled with bizarre and nightmarish wildlife. No one knows what is in the center of the forest, but many are lured there, seeking adventure.
-INTP: A mobile, futuristic village, with mechanical buildings and flying cars. This village travels around the world, seeking intellectuals to join it.
-ENTJ: An ancient medieval palace, the floors covered with treasure. The palace is filled with traps and monsters. No human has ever successfully claimed any of the treasure.
GAHHH PROCRASTINATING
Someone help me i am severely procrastinating over this one essay that’s due tomorrow
It’s like i’m physically unable to mAKE MYSELF FRIGGEN DO IT GAHHH COME ON ME JUST DO IT
It’s like I know that if I procrastinate it just extends the work, but I’m just so lost and paralysed with fear of not doing a good job and not have enough time to finish.
MY MIND HAS BEEN SCREAMING SINCE YESTERDAY MORNING. I FEEL LIKE I’M NOT GONNA PASS OH MY GOD. I REALLY WISH I DIDN’T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR’S CLASS.
DOES ANYBODY KNOW ANY LINKS ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A HUMAN ANIMAL PLEASE DO TELL ME
I CANNOT BULLSHIT THIS ONE LIKE I HAVE BEFORE
I’ve been there. The best thing to do is to get someone to help you do it. You need someone to basically inspire ideas about your essay and make it interesting enough to motivate you to write it.
Thank you for your advice! I’ve actually had that thought, but problem is, I don’t want to rely on other people to motivate or inspire me. People are very busy, and hence can be unreliable and distracted. They also can be distracting, and can be pretty bad at inspiring me. Like, people are often hate essays, how can they make me interested in mine? It’s like we’re asking too much from them. I can’t ask them to spark that inspiration within me, I gotta try myself. They also may not understand what I need to do, what my teachers want, my ideas, etc. I need to learn how to motivate myself so I won’t be completely stumped when I can’t talk to someone.
But I get what you mean. Talking to people can definitely help sometimes. I just don’t think I should need it to motivate/inspire myself to make an essay. It could be an occasional thing, but not something that should be part of my essay routine. I’ve tried it before and it sucked, being desperate for someone to help me.
Anyway, turns out I needed panic and a broken down to-do list to push me to do it, 8 hours before it was due. I did an all-nighter, and ended up late to class. I’m still worried that I did the shittiest job on the essay but whatever, I have the exam.
Again thanks @tails225!
