BASS
“like go to eat, y’know. a date. i take you to dinner, we get trashed, hook up, then never see each other again. sounds like a perfect scenario. ” he had a big grin on his face as he wiped down the counter. something struck a nerve there. he pushed her to her breaking point, that’s all he wanted. “it’s totally a nude,” he had to stare at his feet and tuck his chin into his chest to keep himself from laughing. “oh no,” he said in response to her closing her notebook, “leaving so soon?”
“y’know, you shouldn’t be out all drunk when you’re working. you’re the boss after all, you should set a good example for your employees. shame.” he was definitely sober and that truth baffled her even more, seeing as he just said the word date, more so when he said hook up. “you’re being way presumptuous right now and i don’t even see my conditional coffee being served, much less prepared. so i’m not going anywhere, baby.” she sat even more lax.
BASS
“you scare me,” he wanted it to sound like a joke, but in some ways it was more than true. he began preforming mundane chores in order to pass the time. bass’s plan was to do whatever it took to bore her enough that she would leave. “only if you go to dinner with me when i’m off,” the words sounded foreign coming from his mouth. he had far more stimulating people he could have called to keep him interested that night, but he still felt compelled to put the offer on the table. it was partly to piss her off, partly because he was hoping she wouldn’t yell at him too much in a public setting. “whatcha drawing?” his voice was in the same tone that an overbearing mother would use on her teenager, but his body language told a different story. “please tell me it’s a nude.”
the lead pencil dove against the paper of her sketchbook harshly when she heard the alien-like proposition fall from his lips. “excuse me?” she replied confused, continuing to draw and avoiding eye contact, despite her the tip of her pencil completely falling off from the friction earlier. “nothing! ugh mind your own business — and whether it is a nude or not is completely classified information.” she promptly closed the sketchbook.
ALECTO
✴︎ — Alecto didn’t know what she would have done for the past four years if it weren’t for Nico. She couldn’t have asked for a better friend, a better person for Kili to look up to, which she knew he did. “ The trick is to get a really big cookie and prop it on your forehead. Kili won’t notice, ” Alecto grinned. She watched as he propped Kili on his shoulders and her son beamed, squealing in excitement. “ I think we’d never get a certain somebody to sleep if we had an ice cream truck. Seriously, we’d lock it up and he’d find a way in. Well I just might have to take you up on that. I swear. Some of the mothers are insane. ”
“see, i’ve tried that method, but i don’t know what the problem is! i’m just assuming these cookies really don’t like my face to sit on. it’s rude and offensive and i’m not having it—and i’ve got an incredible face so they’re missing out on a lot,” he humoured, “you know what? forget cookies, i’m going to use brownies instead—what do you say, ki? brownies instead of cookies? they’re way chocolatier than boring cookies.” in response the boy laughed and chanted brownies repeatedly. “i guess we need to get a brownie truck with that ice cream truck now, huh? and we can definitely hire a security guard to shield the trucks from ki’s monster appetite.” he quirked up when she agreed to his offer. “i won’t disappoint you ma’am. i’ll even volunteer for stuff. i’ll make the other dads look like complete amateurs.”
AMELIA
mia beamed, green eyes alight. of the few people that she had told about her system, none had ever seemed to think positively of it before him. it had either been considered romantic and frivolous or strange. certainly never genius. “that’s- wow, thanks,” she felt a blush color her cheeks as she looked up at him. “i can- and thank goodness, because i think they pretty much gave me the calm i needed to make it through my finals last year.” she was joking, but she also meant it when she said that her soulmate had helped her get through. when her dad had left and she had needed to uproot her whole life, mia had relied on the happiness that they had been feeling. “i sometimes struggle with that, too. i guess the way that i can tell is that, whoever they are, their emotions feel a bit more… controlled than my own? i’ve always wondered if maybe they were a teacher.” suddenly, mia realized that she was talking about her soulmate on their first date- that probably wasn’t in the how-to guides. oops. but then he started to ramble and mia felt a thrill of nerves and excitement running through her. it made her heart beat a bit faster to realize that he was, perhaps, as nervous around her as she felt around him. “that definitely helps. and lizzie liked you, which is a bit rare with her. but then, it’s also rare that we get cute, charming doctors around here who don’t talk to her like she’s a little kid.”
seeing as he was somewhat a busy man, he never really got to put much about it—the whole soulmate ordeal—much less, actually verbalise his thoughts and share them with another person who showed an equal interest in the subject; nevertheless, it was always there in the back of his mind, just waiting to be dug out and explored further. “they could be a psychologist too. who knows, right? they might even be evaluating your emotions now, amelia hart.” he quirked an inquisitive brow at her. “i might need to see an otolaryngologist, because i think i heard you say, not just cute, but also charming.” he teased, nudging her with his elbow softly.
ISAK
“no” he chuckled lightly, feeling the warmth of her hands and the soft kiss she gave. “you’re the sweetest.” he kissed her back gently with a passionate touch, like how he always did. “i feel the same, they really are the best ones we got and are very reliable if you need them. i’m surprised that they turned out to like me, because the past ones didn’t.” he said, remembering the arguments he used to have with the former ones.
@qoldcn
instinctively making herself comfortable straddling his lap, fingers stroking “i can do this all day.” she sighed, pertaining to both their argument on who was the sweetest and the soft, yet heated kisses. “but alas, i have to finish this painting. let’s save it for later, yes?” she got up and left to sit back in front of her easel. “okay, now you definitely have to sit still.” she chuckled, flicking gentle strokes on the canvas.
REINA
“ huh… stupid laws. i almost forgot. ” her thoughtful expression snapped back into one of careless bliss (with a dash of idiocy). she refused to move from her seat, instead focusing her attention on her nearly finished moscow mule. “ just let me finish this… and then we can go to the liquor store. ”
one thing she liked about being sober? was watching the liquored ones blurt out and do crazy stupid fun stuff that they would never or rarely do sober. “well, the law is the law. maybe if you run for senator one day, you can change that, huh?” she joked, before her smile turned to one of concern. “mhm, no liquor store for you missy. you’ve had one to many drinks already. jeez, seriously, how do you even have a liver at this point?”
ALECTO
✴︎ — “ Seriously. You’d think it’d be the city mums, ” Alecto chuckled. “ And you’ve had to deal with me panicking over stubbed toes at three in the morning when I’m too tired to realise how trivial things are. So you can do anything, ” she grinned. “ I’m a novelist. I am not prepared for crazy parents. I am only prepared for Kili and like, three other mothers in his preschool class. And only because they’re the parents of Kili’s friends who he sees more frequently. Everyone else is terrifying, ” Alecto paused. “ …I’m just really antisocial… ” she finished. “ Pffft, you’ve done so much for us. The least I can do is give you a place to live, ” she smiled. She nudged Kili towards Nico, smiling as her son nodded.
he could not wrap his brain around why would his best friend leave alecto and kilian. they were perfect, everything a person could ever hope for, it just didn’t make sense. “i can do anything except balance a cookie on my nose. believe me i tried, mostly for ki’s entertainment, but i have failed you.” he laughed lightly, before propping up kili on his shoulders, earning him a squeal of excitement from the little one. “you enjoying a giant’s view from up there, bud?” he looked up at the child with a smile, before giving his attention back to alecto. “you can expect your ice cream truck tomorrow and if you ever need anyone to be your substitute for pta meetings, sign me up. i don’t mind talking to fiesty mothers. it’ll be like working in the clinic,” he offers. “but of course, that’s all up to you. i don’t want to overstep on anything.”
BASS
“but you are the one who decided to show up at my business and harass my employee, so i’d like to point out who’s really in the wrong here.” he was hoping he could get her fired up enough she’d leave or at least make her out as a big enough ass everyone would feel sorry for him in the end. “hm, what a surprise.” he rolled his eyes as he watched her make herself comfortable. “ d’ya at least want a coffee or something for the wait?”
“i did not harass your employee.” she retorted from her seat ( which wasn’t that far from the counter ) , then gave martine a pointed look, so sharp it could be considered lethal “—martine did i harass you?” her former school mate only shook his head in a frightened response. once she thought the conversation was over, she opened her kanken and pulled out her sketchbook, that would keep her company for a few hours. “is it on the house?” she bothered not to look up at him, much concentrated on the drawing she was working on.
AMELIA
nicolas’ words caught mia’s attention and she forced her head out of the clouds, looking down to realize what she was doing. writing the date was something that she had gotten so accustomed to over the years that she rarely even consciously considered doing it. a blush rose to her cheeks as she bit her lip. “don’t laugh, okay?” she asked. “so i sort of keep this notebook, and i like to… well, record the dates that my soulmate feels things really strongly. that way, when i meet them one day, i can ask about them.” she knew that some people would think it was silly, but it meant a lot to mia. “i guess it makes me feel like i’m, you know, connected to them. if that makes sense. and i can feel their happiness really strongly right now, so,” she indicated the writing on her palm with a shy grin. “i know it’s kind of goofy. i just want to get to know them.” she listened to his story intently, impressed that he seemed to be the kind of person that would put a child that wasn’t his above his own needs. “wow, that must have been a heck of an adjustment. but i’m sure the mom was glad to have you there. i would have killed to have someone helping with lizzie.” at the admission of the name, a smile lit mia’s face. “oh, kili! that little boy is an absolute darling. he and his mom come into the bookstore all the time; he burns through books as fast as i can recommend them. what a small world, blanchard, nicolas blanchard.”
“it’s not silly at all,” he started, taking a breath. “it’s honestly admirable—genius even. i’m kind of jealous i haven’t thought of it first.” he too was fascinated with his soulmate. just the thought of having someone out there who was meant for you. no matter that it sounded like some fantasy romantic comedy, it was a wonder. “oh? you can feel your soulmate too? that’s cool. i can feel mine too. though, sometimes i find it difficult to actually differentiate my feelings from theirs. it does certainly help that my soulmate is always happy.” whoever his soulmate was, he appreciated their presence, their happiness made him feel happy especially during the dark phase in his life. they were the ones who truly patched him up. “well, if it’s any help i’m here now—you know? like her pediatrician, so uhm? i’ll be here to help i guess.” he rambled awkwardly, before managing to calm down and regain his composure. “definitely a small world.”
ERIC
“i said no, if you think whinin’ is going to change my mind, you have another thing comin’ missy.” he explains to the little girl with ease, and whilst it was generally difficult to not give into even her wildest wants, he had to stand his ground. she’d rule the roost, if not. it’s then that she actually starts her temper tantrum, and he’s frowning at her, before choosing to copy her. was it embarrassing? oh, awfully – but the reaction he received from hope made it worth it. she looked confused, and despite being only five – mortified. it made her stop her own, cocking her head to the side a little bit. eric stopped his own then, realised that somebody had seen it all unfold. “uh – a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do?” he chuckles lightly, awkwardly, grimacing just a little.
the scene in front of her was quite entertaining, if not incredibly endearing. if only she had a little sibling to share moments like that, but she wasn’t fortunate enough to have one. considering she was just an accident herself and the only reason her were forced to get married in the first place. “well, i think it was totally adorable.” she commented with a kind smile. “what was she asking for anyway?”
ELIANA
it was a slow, typical morning for the young woman and she wasn’t in the mood to play piano or write because she was lacking her inspiration and she was still tired even though all she did at home last week when she got back was relax and catch up with people. she felt good to back home with her parents, but was missing the time she spent in Italy as she went out with friends and met new people. the brunette was at the local barnes and noble, sitting at one of the wooden tables in the young adult genre section. she had her earphones on and was listening to une barque sur l’ocean, but the volume was on high and can be heard by the people sitting around her, however she was ignorant of this and was trying to block the lingering thoughts she had until she felt someone from behind tapped her shoulder. “huh?” she turned around. “oh hey!” she said, greeting them with a polite smile.
“hey, uh, sorry for disturbing you, but i just couldn’t help but hear that tune you’re playing—maurice ravel, right?” she tilted her head to the side, holding the art book to her chest. “i just rarely see people listening to it, so i just wanted to? i don’t know come by? is anybody sitting here?” she tipped her head to the empty spot next to the woman.
SETH
breathing in the familiar air of sex and booze, seth felt a sort of comfort as he entered his own establishment, which was strangely the first time the whole week that he had made an appearance. he had always made it a habit to check up on his bar a few times throughout the week to keep up with his title of owner/boss, though the blonde usually found himself jumping from others in the area in an effort to meet new people and get out from his own place. feeling a sudden need for spontaneity, the blonde brought himself over to the bar and sat next to an unsuspecting stranger, turning to them with an amused smile before he laid out his joke that could go either way. “god, this place is lame. isn’t it?”
now, kaia wasn’t one to hope on the bar scene ( she was more of a stay at home chillin’ kind of person ) but she was hoping to find someone particular in this establishment. when she ordered a glass of orange juice the bartender just looked at her like she was in the wrong place, and she couldn’t blame them for doing so, she felt so out of place. however she did get the orange juice and sipped on it as she waited for him to enter her field of vision. not long she heard the voice of the man she was searching for. “honestly? it looks a little drab,” she teased. “i told you to get those nice neon purple wallpaper, didn’t i?”
WINSTON
puff, puff. winston took two puffs from his newly-lit cigar before answering the question, if he liked miami or captiva more - as he mentioned how he lived in miami prior to this. “captiva. the beauty of miami without the noise.” he spoke decisively, ashing the cigar. he leaned further back into the metal chair, eyeing the view of the shore. winston brought the other here, to the part of the beach his luxury resort offered. the two sat at a table on the deck, umbrella keeping them cool from the warm florida temperatures. curious to know about the locals who’ve been living in captiva, he sat up slightly straighter. “now. you. what’s there to know?” he smirked slightly, if only out of curiousity.
how she managed to snag a place beside him was still such a mystery to kaia. though, who was she to deny such a generous offer? she was laying on her stomach listening to him talk, a towel draped over her, getting some rest from soaking up the sun earlier. at his question, she turned her head to face him. “now, i didn’t think our arrangement included any personal questions.” even though her eyes were concealed with her sunglasses, the intrigue in her eyes were apparent. “how about a few more mimosas before you get me talking, huh?”

BASS
“yeah and I pay him. case closed.” his mood was slowly transforming into some twisted sort of agitation. he wanted to tell her off right then and there, but he had a reputation to uphold. “you’re gonna be here a long time then, i don’t get off until 8.” he still didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of devoting his entire attention to her so he found himself avoiding eye contact and doing whatever he could to remain busy. “of course i did. i was being facetious. i was hoping you’d get the picture and leave me alone.”
“leave you alone? excuse me? i’m not the one sending a million cakes here.” internally, she knew she was starting to lose this battle, but she had not come to terms with that. santillians are stubborn as fuck, that was what her mother said about her dad and she was right. “fine.” she closed the cardboard flop of the box and grabbed it from the counter. “i can wait here until eight. i’ve got nothing better to do, anyway.” she shrugged her shoulders and headed for an empty seat.
