I'm currently 33, just starting on a new play of mine, but I'm aware some of y'all were huge fans of my previous plays (Romeo and Juliet, anyone?) so I thought it might be cool to note down some of my thoughts as I'm tidying up my primary WIP.

Especially for any budding playwrights and recreational actors, this blog is totally for you. (Just for my reputation, imagine me winking through the screen at you.)

rosalind from as you like it was insane (affectionate) for all that. she disguises herself as a guy & then upon meeting the guy she is in love with (also in love with her) in the woods decides to pull the greatest gender stunt in the world and convinces him to roleplay wooing the lady he's in love with (her) with her (as a man) pretending to be herself. and incredibly he goes along with calling this handsome young man by his girlfriend's name & wooing her & halfway getting gay married just in time for her (a woman disguised as a man roleplaying a woman) to break out the line "I will be more jealous of thee / than a barbary cock-pigeon over his hen" leaving us with a stunning Four Levels of Gender (1. woman 2. woman disguised as a man 3. woman disguised as a man roleplaying a woman 4. woman disguised as a man roleplaying a woman who (in her persona as a woman) then refers to herself as a 'cock-pigeon' and the man she loves as a 'hen')

Reblog if sometimes you want to say something deep and true but you don’t know where to even start because you have internalised that you specifically are cringe and pretentious for trying to be profound. Maybe because you’ll never have the right words or maybe you’re just wrong and someone with a much better understanding will correct you because unlike you they’re not trying to be deep for the sake of it.

Btw the best version of performative Shakespeare hating that has ever happened to me was when the group sitting next to me at the bookstore saw my copy of Lear and started talking about how Shakespeare "made up 800 words and phrases", which means that he is a bad writer bc he didn't have the vocabulary to write without having to make shit up. Which is the first novel anti-shakespeare argument I've ever heard and I was so genuinely baffled I really had to hand it to them. Incomprehensible of course but at least original !
