ilya is the kind of person who would get so used to sleeping beside shane every night, holding him in his sleep, feeling shane nuzzle against him throughout the night.

that's why ilya has trouble sleeping whenever shane isn't home. he tosses and turns, the bed suddenly feeling far too big and empty without shane beside him. eventually, he gives in and calls shane, hoping he'll fall asleep to the sound of his voice. it works this time around.

the next time shane is away, ilya steals one of his worn shirts just so he can smell him while he falls asleep. the scent clinging to the fabric makes the distance feel a little less unbearable. it's still not the same as having shane beside him, but it's enough to help ilya fall asleep.
