I'm Eliza (or Lauren if you're my family or a long time friend) a 21 year old spoonie. I love history, art, anthropology, true crime, forensics, and the paranormal. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome(s), Dysautonomia and POTS, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Chronic hypovoliemia (Caused by the previous 3 illnesses), PCOS, Endometriosis, Interstitial cystitis, Chronic migraines, asthma, severe GERD (which causes me to aspirate because of having so much stumach acid), atypical seizures, and a few other things. I also have APD and I'm blind in one eye because EDS sucks.

At the annual Houston RenFest we’d always get one or two furries that walk around and every time the general reaction from the medieval roleplayers is akin to  “BEASTS? BEASTS THAT WALK LIKE MAN? FOUL!” 

Last time I went a furry volunteered for an impromptu conversion/exorcism and a guy dressed as a monk gathered a bunch of people and using a Gatorade bottle performed an entire catholic christening while reading off the instructions on his Ipad. When the furry was fully “converted” he removed the head of his costume and everyone in the crowd pretended to freak out and say shit like “GlORY BE HE IS SAVED” “CHRIST HAS BROKEN HIS CURSE”

When people are described as “gay icons” it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are themselves gay people who are iconic—it means that something about their cultural role has been widely embraced by a significant part of a gay population, and their own sexuality or gender is irrelevant.

Judy Garland is probably the most classic example. She was such a famous gay icon, despite being a straight woman, that “friend of Dorothy” has been ingroup code for gay since the 1950’s. The same can be said for James Dean and lesbians. So when people refer to, say, Hozier as a “lesbian icon”, they’re not calling Hozier a lesbian, they’re just acknowledging that he is widely recognized as a pop culture symbol amongst many younger lesbians. There are of course many LGBTQ icons people who are themselves LGBTQ!

I have seen a lot of younger LGBTQIA+ folk getting angry that people get called gay icons despite not being gay. I hope this helps clear things up for those folk.

Now what would happen if a homeless quilt was made by someone who actually cared about homeless people?

Meet former ad designer Willie Baronet. 

Baronet is an artist who talks to homeless people and buys their signs from them for $20 a pop, if they’re willing to sell. He uses the signs in art exhibits to educate the privileged and point them to ways they can help, and to humanize homeless people and tell them they matter. 

One sign at a time, Baronet makes a statement to help people with $20 in their hand and a voice that rings across the nation saying “I’m here.” (source)

So not only did they take the small, hand-made signs away from homeless people but instead of just tossing them, they kept them. Not only did they keep them as some kind of homeless trophy, they actually went through the time, energy, and effort (funded by tax dollars) to tape them together, pose for a picture, and post it during the holiday season. 

This is why people say that there are no good cops. Because there aren’t.

Okay so I forgot to post this when I originally saw it but Tumblr just reminded me by being a dick and accidentally adding it to something I reblogged.

We've had the whole thing with plastic straw bans and the environmental impact of asthma inhalers, and now apparently we've moved on to contact lenses, because the ableds just can't leave us alone.

Why is it that people seem to feel the need to point out the environmental impact of things disabled people need, while just ignoring the impact of things they use but don't need.

There are plenty of other things (fireworks, balloons, etc, although now that I think about it some people use balloons for breathing exercises) that aren't necessities that I haven't seen anyone really talk about.

I'm sure many of the people bitching about straws and inhalers are the same people who have Christmas lights up right now unnecessarily using electricity and potentially endangering people with photosensitive conditions (and honestly I don't know how much electricity they use but even if it's a tiny amount, plastic straws only make up a tiny amount of plastic waste in the oceans).

I've even seen ableds complaining about mobility aids being wasteful, because "the hospital wouldn't take them so we had to throw them away" instead of, you know, donating them to charities or even selling them on when they no longer needed them (most of these instances were people who'd had an acute injury and needed to use crutches, or had a disabled family member who'd passed away).

It's as if ableds will do anything to demonise us and avoid taking any responsibility and it's fucking infuriating.
