On the theme of Season 6: āHow scared should we be? Homeland doesnāt want to contribute to that fear.ā
On Homeland wanting to mirror the conversations that happen in the halls of power: āWe hear so much during those four days [meeting with the CIA], weāre just mirroring what theyāre saying. We get slammed by the right for being apologists, we get slammed by the left for being Islamophobists, but we donāt take side, we try to have our characters voice what we heard during those four days and really have those conversations in the episodes.ā
On storytellersā responsibility to tell both sides: āI was quite upset when I saw Zero Dark Thirty because they clearly heard their Ā consultants say quite definitely that enhanced interrogation techniques led to the capture of Osama bin Laden. Well, you can listen to two sides of that questions - you HAVE TO listen to two sides of that question - if youāre presenting that to the American people as a true story. Were telling a fiction and weāre super careful about it; thatās a story thatās trying to tell a real-life event and they came down so heavily on that one side of the issue when Iāve heard such disparate opinions about it. I just felt it was irresponsibleā
About Carrieās normal life: āThat ws the theme for S5. She had been disabused by her mother of the idea that she couldnāt have a relationship because of her bipolar, so she embarked, like Carrie does with both feet, into a relationship. So the question was ācould she have an intimate romance with a civilian? would he understand what sheād been through? who she was? And the answer was a resounding ānoā"
About Dar Adal - āThis whole black ops that he heads exists, thatās whatās interesting. Iām not going to say anything else about him except that I have a great deal of respect for him and love for him, but as to his back story, thatās my business. About Carrie being the savior of humanity (OK Mandy): "Carrie is like the Vitamix, Saul is smart, but not smarter than Carrie. He has good ideas, but he canāt bring them to fruition. But if he puts them in the Vitamix, they will come out and make you a stronger person. Iām looking at Carrie Mathison, Iām seeing a Vitamixā
About Carrieās relationships with women: āI particularly love the relationship with Astrid because they recognize each other. Thereās a level of competition, but they share a common interest, a common love. So they understand each other on a fairly intuitive level.ā
About Carrieās normal life: āEmotionally speaking, I think it was interesting to see her feel entitled to a life for the first time. She saw that her bipolar condition was not going to prevent her from cultivating a rich, grounded, intimate relationship, she thought that was the obstructive force, and it turns out itās not her bipolarity, but just the fact that sheās generally exceptional and probably a little outsized for a conventional civilian life. I think she isnāt quite sure how to focus her energy, sheās experimenting with that.ā

Moderator: āI recognize this question. I just want you to know, whoever you are who wrote this question, Twitter works, and so Iām definitely going to ask this question. Claire, Carrie felt guilty for not taking care of Quinn last season, how will she redeem herself for that this season?ā
Claire: āBy annoying the crap out of him. So sheās in New York largely because Quinn is receiving therapy here, on multiple levels [*audience applause*]ā
