On July 6th, Sarah Lee Circle Bear (Lakota) was found dead in her jail cell in Aberdeen, SD. Sarah, who was 24 and jailed due to a bond violation is reported to have been pleading with her jailers that she was in extreme pain (according to numerous witnesses) to which staff replied knock it off,” and “quit faking.” She collapsed and her body was drug to holding cell where she was later found unconscious.

#SayHerName (7/22/15): Another transgender WOC has been found dead. 25-year old India Clark is the 10th trans woman this year (and the 9th TWOC) to be killed in the US, and it was sadly in my hometown. Details are still emerging, but the local media have been horrendous, refusing to call her by her name. The police are also refusing to identify her as trans or treat this as a hate crime.

please help - mentally ill black trans femme kicked out of her house

hi, some of you may know me by now. i’m Jo, a 26 year old black trans femme aspie, jobless for a year and suffering from BPD, anxiety, depression & PTSD. i was recently tossed out of my home because I have been publically railing against my roommates for the egregious violence that they have been committing against me, my black friends (who they claim to respect sooooo much), and against black people in general. I have been ceaseless in trying to bring to public light the ways the white queer community in pittsburgh enables, produces, reproduces, and is a safe harbor for abuse, particularly against trans women of color. 

after ywo years of invalidation, silencing, speaking over me, devaluing my voice, reaping the benefits of my physical mental and emotional labor, i finally decided to say “No.”

I’ve been sleeping on my friends couch for the last two days. my only access to the internet is at the public library. all of my belongings (including my pet rabbit Okra, who is now living in a completely roach-infested home) are at my former apartment. Two of my friends had to go in my lieu to even get my cell phone, which has been dead all week and I am finally charging on the library computer using someone else’s charger as I am currently waiting on a replacement to arrive (which will also be delivered to this apartment and so I will be unable to retrieve with any immediacy or on my own).

Help Cortez Attend Activists Mobilizing for Power in PDX

Greetings All!

My name is Cortez. Some of you may know me personally, and some of you may know me through tumblr. I’m a fat, Southern, Black, Queer, Non Binary, Femme feminist organizer and “meda maven”. Still not quite sure what that last one means. I organize around issues of queer liberation, racial justice, and reproductive justice, to keep it short, under this radical vision that we all have a fundamental right to claim our humanity and do as we damn well please. I’ve had the honor and pleasure of doing liberatory work with a lot of folks in a lot of different ways. Today, I’m asking for your help.

I’m currently fundraising and plotting to attend the Western States Center Activists Mobilizing for Power conference in Portland, Oregon. The Western States Center describes AMP as “a unique three-day training and networking conference for community-based leaders, staff, and volunteers of groups organizing for justice. AMP participants represent a spectrum of experiences and backgrounds. They are diverse with respect to race, geography, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, and skill level. Trainers, drawn from around the region and beyond, are among the most knowledgeable in their areas.”

That’s a lot.

And that shit’s expensive, y'all. Just one day of workshops is $92 and my broke ass is trying to chill in this dancery for three days.

On the bright side, I’ve been awarded a scholarship of $108.3 to cover what comes out to be $914 of expenses, which include registration, lodging, flight, and meals outside the conference. My goal amount is an even $1000. Oh, and I need to sort this by June 26th as that is the registration deadline to receive my scholarship.

And that’s that.

A lot is happening in the world and community resources can often feel and be scarce, but I thank you so much for reading all of this and for any help you can provide in getting me to my goal! Your generosity, even in the form of sharing this page, is much appreciated!
