i am ready to recognize i might just be That put off by the idea ive enjoyed a show pushing an Abusers Are Reedemable narrative (my least fav genre) (<- and lowkey. lowkey what the show did with caine but more on that later or never whatever whateverr) but im also genuinely. a little put off by what we think is or isnt abuse or what abusers can do and what can be done so

abuse: using a variety of tactics to exert control over someone. denies their autonomy. can include physical violence as well as other forms of coercion (emotional, financial, etc etc)

violence: not necessarily abusive

goals of abuse: to exert power over someone. to extract value/labour from someone. to prevent someone from leaving you / denying you whatever you want from them.

why it works so well: it plays with the existing power structure, so the general populace is almost always complicit (ie parents rights, jealousy as romantic, boss is probably right and workers are just lazy, falling for darvo, women lie, black people are aggressive, minorities are playing the victim, etc)

so when it comes to the circus show. if jax is Abusive

- what is she trying to get from gangle?

- what is she successfuly getting from gangle ?

- is gangle able to say no to her requests (yes) & is she punished for doing so (she says she will be but we do not see this happen)

- do other people enable jax (no)

on the other hand

- jax gets tied up + gagged

- jax gets put in a maid outfit against her will & mocked by the cast

- jax gets threatened by actionable punishment the second gangle is assigned mcdonalds shift manager like come onnn

- jax gets sent to a mcdonalds punishment basement ??

- jax is seen and treated by the cast as the aggressor 100% universally

tldr if jax is trying to inflict her own will upon others she Sucks ass at it. she is also unable to prevent others from inflicting their will upon her. almost like the dynamics of abuse work .... against .... her............ almost like theres a rl world dynamic leaving her more vulnerable..... almost as if
