i like to think that the reason janity keeps shooting murderbot weird looks is bc she is VERY familiar with leonide's endless tirades about wanting to THROTTLE some fuck-ass secunit that is absolutely the WORST person she's ever met, and she's not convinced it even IS a secunit; it doesn't LOOK like one and all the humans that are supposed to be "controlling" it love it to PIECES and also seem to follow its ORDERS (??) rather than simply take its assessments under advisement, and what she wouldn't give to hire security that mindbogglingly competent for herself and the whole family but not like. specifically THAT "'"secunit""' bc it's an ASSHOLe and she HATES it and also it saved her life in an absolutely impossible situation and that makes her want to STRANGLE it with her bare hands. her techs STILL can't understand how the hell it had hacked its way into controlling HER ENTIRE FUCKING SUPPLY TRANSPORT and also she still can't figure out how it had managed to STOP DEAD that one secunit that was about to break the whole door down or *drags hands down face* where the FUCK did the university or preservation or whoever GET THAT THANG

so janity is looking at this thing and thinking. this looks. a lot. like mom's description of the fuck-ass secunit

which is both bewildering, bc it's?? here?? somehow?? why?? but also, going off memories of her mom's stories about its STAGGERING quantities of competence... it showing up is the single most reassuring thing that could POSSIBLY have happened in their situation

So Leonide’s family is obviously a bit of a shit show in Platform Decay right?

Janity (someone please correct my spelling—I listened to this book on Audio) tells her Second Dad about BE killing her Uncle and a couple other people. But doesn’t list any of those other dead adults as her other moms or dad

Leonide didn’t attempt to get her other marital partners out when asking for MB and the Preservation crew for help escaping

Leonide doesn’t tell Janity’s second dad about the two safe houses - he learns about those from Janity herself, and it seems to me that he was intentionally digging for the information from her/knew that Leonide was keeping secrets from him

Second dad didn’t care about Tula because she’s not HIS child

Tula and Janity have family outside of the Torus that can help them but once again, Second Dad isn’t involved with that part of the plan

Second dad calls Farai and MB agents that Janity’s moms are using to kill her

I know the book keeps saying that Leonide’s fall from favor is cuz of BE losing rights to the alien remnants and that entire population of that colony, but looking at this context…

It sounds like the actual background conflict in Platform Decay is actually a messy divorce and custody battle

LeoIde where Leona keeps falling asleep on Idia, and he is having the time of his life. This is the equivalent of an overgrown cat falling asleep in your lap, the difference is that the cat is not a cat but a lion and could actually kill you.

Idia is confused because it's Not a one time thing. It keeps happening, and he does NOT know how to deal with his feelings. Leona is using his whole "actions speak louder than words" thing but honestly if he doesn't start talking with Idia that man is going to make up the craziest theories about everything. He is an assuming boy and will probably just think the worst of everything.
