I am back? Wow have I been gone a very long time and while I did watch a few more episodes, I need to rewatch and refresh my memory. I am once again busy this next week but I'm hoping I won't be gone as long this time because I really like this show!
11: Adventures in Babysitting
Our beginning of the show victim is another hunter who gets ganged up on by two monsters, unable to overpower them.
Then we quickly jump into the funniest montage I have ever seen of Dean and Sam trying to decipher the numbers that Bobby left behind for them. I think the director told them "look in the distant with sadness. Then, look like you're thinking really hard." And with the guitar music on top of it? Classic.
Dean is really into figuring out these numbers while Sam is thinking about other things like how to tell anyone that knew Bobby about his passing. After Sam picks up Bobby's phone and hears a kid asking for him, Sam gets worried and wants to prioritize helping her.
Honestly, Sam seems (like he almost always does) like the sane one here. He wants to help a little girl in trouble but Dean is knee deep in stopping Leviathans. As I type this, I guess they're both right.
So, the brothers split. Dean goes to deal with Frank and Sam is helping this girl named Krissey. As Sam investigates, he pretty quickly gets kidnapped by these Vetalas. Meanwhile, Dean figures out with Frank that the numbers are coordinates to a spot in a random field. There is surveillance so Frank works on hacking into the camera footage so they can see why this spot is so important. Frank also gives Dean some advice on how he's mourning. He pretty much tells him to deal with it and make it through one week at a time but honestly, in the world they live in, maybe that's the best advice. Not in any other circumstance though, guys don't listen to Frank. Get therapy.
Eventually, Dean finds out Sam is in trouble and gets in touch with Krissey. Soon, they're working to gether to save both her dad and Sam. She is stubborn... No matter how many times Dean says no to her, she insists she wants to help. I feel like they constantly pair Dean up with kids.
Well, maybe it's a good thing she came with him because she ends up saving them, although you could argue if she hadn't crashed the party, they wouldn't have been in danger in the first place. Either way, she got her hero moment and everyone got out alive. I do like that she got to hear about Sam's college time and consider that she could do something other than hunting. Hope she does!
12: Time After Time
Onto another case. To be honest, I didn't think we would get more Leviathan unrelated cases since I've seen the fandom complain so much about this season. I still have halfway to go so that could change any second but just had to say it. Enjoying it so far.
As the two run around town pretending to be FBI, they find the thing they're hunting but Dean runs to tackle it as it's feeding on someone and then poof! He's in 1944. Quickly, he's arrested for waving around his gun but it doesn't take long for someone to come in, question him, and recruit him in hunting the thing he was chasing down. Eliot Ness. Celeb appearance kind of not really.
Sam ends up working with sheriff _____ to get Dean back. In the meantime, Dean is getting a makeover so that he fits in a bit more. He does mention Obama... take me back... But wow Dean should wear a suit more often! I do love that they always point out him saying Awesome.
Let me speed this up. So, they find out it's The God of Time Chronos and this guy is eating people's... time I guess. That's why they shrivel up after he's done feeding on them. Fast forward a bit, Sam realizes that they can get Dean back if they summon Chronos as Dean is touching the god. That would bring them both back. Of course, since this is Supernatural it is going to work.
The funny part is that Chronos has a lover who lives with him who survives to the present day. She remembers what time the summoning is supposed to happen. So bada bing bada boom they know when to summon Chronos although time is tricky so if I think about the logistics too long, my head hurts.
Like always, they're successful and kill the god but before he dies, he tells them their future is covered in thick black ooze. Yeah, we know buddy.
Hi hey sorry I have been gone for so long. I promise I will return, life is just crazy right now (not in a bad way i swear). I have episodes I have watched but just haven't written about so once I have time I will write my thoughts!
I had a feeling the Leviathans would be coming back. But first, we have a case of campers getting munched on in the woods. Dean, Sam, and Bobby are on the case. They go investigating and end up interviewing a ranger who has a coworker that went missing. The man is super laid back and nonchalant about everything the brothers are telling him as he eats a sandwich that looks like the driest thing that has ever been served on a plate. There is a character who is acting the opposite way as him and that would be the waiter who is giving lip to just about anyone that will listen.
Now, I knew there would be something up with the food after they mention the sandwich a second time. It even had its own advertisement and knowing these filming schedules and scripts, no way they are making that and showcasing it without a purpose.
Heading into the forest to investigate, we learn that Bobby was a hunter before becoming a.... well a hunter. Maybe they mentioned it before but I can't remember. Running into trouble, they find the ranger's coworker hanging in a tree, deceased. Calling the man they interviewed earlier, he drives up, sees his coworker, and kind of shrugs it off like it's no big deal. WEIRD! Then, he gets attacked by whatever is in these woods eating people. Not only that but he gets pulled up into the trees and is turned into the next snack. Crazy. Bobby, genius hunter, shoots down the monster and they take it to figure out what this thing is. It gets killed by normal bullets and when they dissected, they find some crazy things in this monster's stomach like a cat head... poor kitty. Otherwise, this monster looks human on the inside.
All while this is happening, Dean, who ate the crazy sandwich is starting to act like the insanely laid back ranger. So, now they dissect the sandwich once realizing anyone who ate it is acting strange. This disgusting grey goo comes out of it (yuck) and thankfully the remedy is Dean doesn't eat anymore of those things.
Ok let's hurry this up. Turns out, the Leviathans have created something that will make humans so docile that they don't even notice what is happening around them. The monster was just one of the experiments gone wrong. A bad reaction. We get to see more of what these things are working on but the hunters find them in time to see the leader of the Leviathans make a lower level one eat itself... does that kill them? I need to know.
Of course, Bobby gets caught spying and Dean and Sam have to save him so we get some fighting scenes. But the end? THE END?! Bobby got shot! NOOOOOO! and he seemed to have seen something important on the head honcho's desk. He BETTER wake up... Also, when does Cas come back? Don't actually tell me but I was wondering.
10: Death's Door
This is messed up. On so many levels. They pretty much just made a forty minute episode to just serve up Bobby's death on a silver platter. I can't even blame Kripke for this one. I have no notes, only hate. How dare they take away Bobby. How dare they...
I forgot to mention that Dean and Sam split up in the previous episode. Maybe I've just gotten so used to that happening that I didn't feel it was important to mention but it did happen after Sam found out that Dean killed Amy. Now we are caught up.
Lily Dale is crazy. I love the portrayal of a town full of fake psychics who make a living off of conning people. It was cute. Two psychics have been killed when Dean shows up on his own after Sam left. Rolling into town, it was kind of sad seeing him go to the crime scene and there was no one there to listen to his stupid jokes. I'm still mad at him too though.
Well, he's not alone for long because he finds Sam eating at a nearby restaurant in his matching FBI suit, already working on the case. It takes some convincing but Sam agrees to work on it together for the sake of the people in the town.
One of the victims granddaughters, Melanie, is questioned by Sam and Dean and all they discover is more about how a lot of these people are tricking their clients. Still, they get intel on the town and head over to Emporium, the towns psychic supply store where they meet the owner Jimmy. The guy is suspicious from the start!
Eventually, Melanie's friend Camille becomes the next victim after getting a vision of her death from a ghost known for predicting when people would pass on. With the brother's help, they dispose of this spirit but let's be honest. She tells them that she was trying to warn them and that's when it's obvious she is not the culprit. They always burn the wrong ones!
Turns out she has a sister who is being controlled by Jimmy who is jealous that all these con artists are successful psychics and he, who has actual powers, gets no recognition.
This episode was fun though. Like always, Sam and Dean are upset with each other but my only complaint is that Sam forgave Dean so quickly. Sure, Amy was a monster but Dean killed her being his back! I don't know... Especially when Sam says they were friends? Then again, Sam has some questionable friends. Ugh I don't know! Can't they just be normal for once?
8: Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!
Oh, Miss Becky... They're in Vegas and all of a sudden, Sam is getting married to Becky who! I thought was dating Chuck but apparently he dumped her. I wonder why? (joke)
Once again, they keep us in the dark as to what is really going on, Dean being the only one making sense for the first time in a while. In all honesty, this whole situation is giving creepy stalker which is scarier than a demon.
Becky and Sam tie the knot before going to "their" home in Delaware and when I see her at her high school reunion... Everything suddenly makes sense. Then, she gets that potion from Aaron Burr (Hamilton reference?) himself and it REALLY makes sense. This girl is using a potion on our guy!
In the mean time, Dean has found a case in town while he is trying to figure out this situation with Sam. People are getting extremely luck/their wishes are coming true and right after, they end up dead. As he explains this to Sam, he discovers that he and Becky are already investigating the case. I did laugh out loud as Becky lists what they know with the map and victim photos behind her. Also, the scene where she has written his name with hearts and red ink all over her notebook and he finds it? WHO WROTE THIS?!
So, Dean is without Sam. Bobby decides to send another hunter his way as he's missing his partner. That's where I finally get to meet Garth, the scrawniest man I have ever seen walk. He's like a little leprechaun. He is funny though.
They go track down a junior salesman who was just promoted as CEO as he seems to be the next target. Becky and Sam show up as well, the brothers judging each others new partners. Now, turns out it was the wife of this new CEO who made a deal with a cross roads demon. After Dean saves her from her untimely demise, she confesses everything.
Ok ok. When the potion wears off on Sam and Becky ties him up? Girl, you are insane. FREE MY MAN SAM! There is no defending you Becky, this is beyond creepy! And, Aaron Burr seems to be our cross roads demon. Sorry, I'm just going to call him that. He sees Becky as an opportunity to keep Sam at bay and makes her a deal. The only issue is clearly, his deals are being cheated! I was still worried she would agree but she ends up freeing Sam and together with Dean and Garth, they fight off this demon and his side kick who is helping break the deals early. It was quite the brawl until Crowley shows up.
I never know what is going to happen when he shows up but he seems to be a peace keeper in this situation as he disproves of Aaron Burrs tactics. Crowley also explains that demons have left them alone for a while because he wants the brothers to deal with Leviathans. Poor Garth missed the entire ordeal. Can't wait to see him again. Him hugging Dean was too good.
WITCHES! As much as I love a witch, a lot of these episodes are super gross. The first scene with the woman, Wendy, under the hair dryer and it cooking her? That used to scare me as a child so that wasn't fun to watch.
Dean's guilty conscience continues to weigh on him as they go on their hunts and they have a Leviathan on their heels, searching for them so he can take them out. Why do these monsters always have to eat people.
Also, Dean is drinking... a lot. Is he a flat out alcoholic now? Did his leg heal? Are we just going to ignore that? Anyways, he notices a bench with an advertisement for Wendy's business in which the plants around it are all dead. They start smelling witch craft. Also, after that man got attacked by that nail gun in the porta potty? I'm starting to get grossed out.
They discover that all the victims so far are connected to a developer in town named Don Stark. After visiting his home, they find witchy items in his home that they deduce were planted by his wife Maggie.
We get more gross visuals when Maggie tries to take out her husband's assistant who is innocently making cupcakes and finds beating hearts inside the desserts. EW! Sam and Dean save her in time of course but at this point, I was suspicious of the husband as well especially since he had nothing going on with the assistant.
Turns out, both of them are witches and they are simply having a couples feud and the townspeople are becoming victims because of it. It's kind of messed up? Also, they go through this whole thing of going after the two of them, counseling them as the witches throw them around, and then they just LET THEM GO?! SO AMY HAD TO DIE BUT THESE TWO ARE FINE?! Dean... Dean... DEAN! Make it make sense.
Well, they're lucky they let them live because the Leviathan that is tracking them finds them but Don walks in puts a spell on the monster, knocking it out and keeping it at bay for a while. He happened to stop by to retrieve coins his wife had planted in their hotel rooms previously.
6: Slash Fiction
That intro was insane. They love leaving the audience in the dark until later on but I kind of like that set up anyway.
Bobby experiments on the Leviathan they caught thanks to the witch in the previous episode and tries to figure out their weakness. Meanwhile, Dean and Sam are trying take care of the Leviathans that have taken their faces and gone around slaughtering people just so the police will be out for them. First, they attempt to erase their identities but eventually they end up dealing with the monsters themselves. I don't know why but I thought this whole stolen identity and the FBI looking for them was going to be a much longer plot. I kind of found it fun when they were running from the law. Still, I guess this one is on a greater scale since the monsters are deliberately trying to get them caught and locked up.
Well, Dean and Sam do end up arrested and while they are locked up, their doubles come to kill them. Thankfully once officers realizes that something crazy is going on and sets them free to fight the doubles off. How do they fight them? Oh yeah! Jody had come over to Bobby's (romance?) and was cleaning his floors when the cleaning solution dripped down to the basement where the Leviathan was being held and it burned him. We found a weakness! Sodium Borate! Thank you Sheriff!
With that, they are able to fight off the monsters. I wonder if they will find a permanent method of dealing with these things because it seems they still need to chop off the top and keep the two pieces separated!
Oh, Crowley does show up and seems to want to make a peace offering with the Leviathans but they turn him down pretty coldly so... Can't wait to see how he helps out later on.
Where do I even begin... Bobby gets Dean and Sam out of the hospital right before the Leviathans can catch them. Dean is hobbling around with the cast on his leg and Sam wakes up eventually but is clearly still having visions and hallucinations.
In this episode, Dean is back to complaining about one thing or another in regards to Sam. Again, I get that he's concerned about his brother but why does he always take it so personally like he doesn't lie about that exact same things? Anyways, while Dean is stuck to the couch, Sam is eager to go on a hunt and does just that. He takes the impala and we begin getting flash backs to when Sam was much younger and met this girl at the library who he seemed to have a little crush on. These scenes are woven in between scenes of the present where he is tracking down a Kitsune who has become active in the area.
Eventually we discover that Sam knows this Kitsune because she was the young girl he met from that library. She saved him from her own mother years ago and begs him to understand why she has to feed. He doesn't trust her until she reveals that she started hunting to save her son. She promises that she usually only eats dead brains from the morgue as she works as a mortician and he believes her.
While this is going on, Dean is tracking down Sam after ripping the cast off of his leg. Are we going to circle back to that or is his leg just magically healed? We shall see. When he finally catches up to Sam, he questions him and asks if Sam took care of the Kitsune. Sam tells Dean the truth in which Dean seems to accept but then... BUT THEN?! DEAN GOES AND FINDS HER AND KILLS HER?! BEHIND SAMS BACK TOO! OOOOOOOOOOO HES PISSING ME OFF! Like- why?! I thought he was going to go for the kid too but thankfully he let him go. Still... Why is Dean being so annoying?!!!! And now look who's lying!
4: Defending Your Life
Back on the hunts! Let's go!!!! We haven't had a haunted car in a while (I miss Cassie) but I guess it really isn't that in the first place. A man on the 10th floor is somehow hit by a car so naturally, the Winchesters are on the case.
Now, this whole episode, guess who's still being annoying. Yeah... Dean. He seems tired and agitated the entire episode and I don't know if it's the guilt eating him alive or the fact that his leg isn't healed but Sam is doing just fine while Dean doesn't even wanna get up. Listen, I know he's helped save the world from the apocalypse and was tortured in hell for 40 years and yada yada but... do your job? In all seriousness though, I've become more of a Sam girl in these last four episodes. Truly.
Speaking of the smarter brother, he, with the help of Bobby, figures out they are dealing with the Egyptian god Osiris who punishes people depending on the guilt they carry in their heart. Of course, then Dean is targeted by this god. He has a trial with Sam acting as his attorney which is funny that they proceed in the style of a modern court hearing. They bring Jo in who defends Dean and gives him nothing to feel guilty about. Then, Sam is the next "witness" who also defends Dean (if only he knew). Dean is the third witness and puts up a good front about not being guilty but the god sees right through him after Dean asks for the last witness not to come forth. We can all guess who that is... AND YOU SHOULD FEEL GUILTY!
Even in the end as Sam saves the day like he always does, Dean still lies to him... the cycle continues.
We are jumping into Season 7, starting right where we left off. Castiel has ultimate power from all the souls he consumed out of purgatory and now he thinks he is the new god. He's so... righteous.
Now, I originally thought season 6 was Leviathans but I now know that it is season 7. Still, we first need to go through Castiel being hit with the hard truth of too much power existing. He's going around killing people who are using his "name" to do evil. I guess right now we could use a guy like him. But in all seriousness, he is off his rockers! Also, the fact he still wanted to work with Crowley was insane.
Like usual, Dean cannot mind his business. He always has to find a way. So, they are trying to copy what Lucifer did and chain up death to go up against Castiel. While that is happening, Castiel is starting to look awful. Like he got blasted by a flame thrower. That one scene where it looks like hands are trying to break free from his stomach. That was so unsettling I never want to see that again!
Anyways, Dean and the gang succeed in trapping Death who is rightfully unhappy but Castiel shows up pretty quickly to the party. I love Death. Honestly, one of my favorite characters. I would be so tired if I were him too. The only problem is that with the snap of a finger, Castiel releases Death from his shackles and he now has free will again. He warns them about Leviathans but doesn't offer much else other than a threat of death if they ever call him again and a handy eclipse so that they can open purgatory once more and return all the souls.
Ok, when Castiel went to that representatives office and killed all of those people after blacking out? Yeah, I knew it was a wrap. He gives into Sam and Dean's demands of returning the souls and together, they save Castiel and the world from his wrath! Or so we thought. Right when he seems ok, we get a glimpse at the first beasts! They were flinging these men all over the place. oh and apparently Castiel is dead. I know that's not true but we are supposed to believe it. Then, they disperse into the water system and we have another bit chaos on our hands.
2: Hello, Cruel World
This episode is where we truly get an introduction to Leviathans and I have to say, I can already understand why a lot of the fandom finds them extremely annoying. They are running around with a plan but I was surprised that they were trying to lay low. I wonder who is in charge of them because they keep hinting that there is someone higher up in command.
Sheriff Mills! She is in the hospital after a surgery and she is the first to let Bobby know of the monsters whereabouts after her little roommate is eaten by her doctor. Well, her doctor that is actually a Leviathan. I'm already confused by that because we saw that the little girl was taken over after drinking from the contaminated water fountain but then, when it turns into the doctor, it doesn't take over the doctor's body but morphs into him. So... are they hosts or shapeshifters? Maybe both... that sucks.
Bobby comes to get the Sheriff out of there (so happy she lives) all while Sam is still having problems with seeing Lucifer and Dean can't get over that Sam is lying about being ok. Sam's hallucinations lead him out to a warehouse making him believe that Lucifer pretended to be Dean. Then, actual Dean shows up and we get to see just how harmful this trauma is for Sam as he is close to shooting his own brother. Now, I understand Dean's frustrations but why is such a whiny little baby? All he can do is sit around and grumble Sam this and Sam that. BOY YOU'VE BEEN TO HELL AND LIED ABOUT YOUR TRAUMA. SHUT UP! Ugh he's being so annoying. Not to say Sam isn't but I don't know. The way Dean is expressing himself is ticking me off (more than usual).
When they go back to Bobby's, the house has been burned down (NO!!!) and as they look for him, they run into a Leviathan who breaks Dean's leg and knocks Sam out. One the ambulance arrives, they are taken to the hospital that is running rampant with these monsters! The suspense! Could really use a not crazy Castiel right now.
This whole episode... Lisa and Ben have been kidnapped by Crowley and his demon goons! So the whole episode we have Dean looking for those two, Bobby searching for purgatory or how to open it, and Castiel spying on the hunter crew as his guilty conscience weighs heavily on his shoulders.
A lot happens in this episode so I'll try and keep it short. I feel this is where Dean truly loses faith in Castiel. He has always been a character driven by the loved ones and see them in danger because of Cas's dealings put a huge wrench in their relationship. I was so scared for Lisa when she had been possessed and nearly died!
Bobby makes a great discovery when interviewing someone who in the past seemed to have experienced purgatory. With his investigating, we discover that the professor that helped them with the dragons is actually a monster from purgatory and she knows where it is and how to get there.
Lastly, when Dean had Lisa and Ben's memories erased, that really hurt. I do think it was for the best but god was it sad.
22: The Man Who Knew Too Much
The final episode!! Right away, I was so confused. We barely saw Sam in the last episode and now he has amnesia! What is going on. To cut things short, Castiel unblocked the wall put up by Death on Sam's soul. I did enjoy the confusion though, I always like seeing more scenes with Sam and his ark. He is stuck in his mind trying to survive all of his sides clashing together. He has to fight off his soulless self and the version of him that remembers hell. I knew he would eventually have to face it but damn was I nervous about it!
Dean and Bobby, in the mean time, are going after Castiel and Crowley who are still going through with the purgatory plan. They also found Bobby's professor friend and got answers out of her as to where purgatory is and how to open it. They are running out of time! Castiel also turns on Crowley which I was not surprised would come back.
Let's see, what else! Balthazar being killed by Castiel? HOW DARE HE! CASTIEL PLEASE STOP!
Ok ok I'm trying to keep this on the shorter side. Castiel really tricked Crowley. I didn't see it coming. Crowley teamed up with Raphael to fight Cas but Castiel left them with a decoy jar of blood that was needed to open a portal to purgatory. So, while they were busy trying to gather up the souls, Castiel was elsewhere, doing it with the real ingredients. When he comes back with all that power? Crowley was smart to run. Raphael popped like a balloon!
Honestly, Castiel is off his rockers! When he said that he is the new god and that Bobby, Sam and Bobby should bow at his feet?! WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN OH LORD!!!
Oh! And Sam is surviving his memories of Hell? Yeah, no way... How? Are we going to see more about that in season 7?
Season 6 Thoughts:
I honestly.... I loved this season so much... It might be my third favorite season. So much better than Season 4 and 5 for me. Honestly would rewatch this whole season! Maybe I'll make a longer post about it but seriously I enjoyed it so much. Is Castiel the new villain? I can't wait to seeeeeee!!!!
We've got Phoenix Ash and a lead on Eve. Let's gooooo! The gang (Dean, Sam, Bobby, and Cas) all head to a town after getting a tip from Lenore on Eve's whereabouts. I was really sad to see her die and the fact that Castiel killed her so quickly. His angel behaviors have returned.
In this town, we see Eve wreaking havoc as she spreads her monster making amongst the population. There's a massacre in a bar but we don't really know what's happening until later on.
With the group on the case, they discover that Castiel has no powers in this town. Dean calls him a "baby in a trench coat" which did make me laugh. So, they have no quick fix to figuring out what is going on in town. They have to go old school and actually investigate. In doing so, they find one of the men who was at the bar that night but they end up discovering him at a doctor's house, no longer alive and looking pretty rough! Eventually they find someone that looks just like this man but it is actually his friend who was with him that night. He confirms that Eve is in town but he soon dies from whatever supernatural disease has just spread.
They then find the bar and realize that Eve has been making hybrids as they find someone with vampire and wraith traits. While there, they get arrested by the police which, we discover, that these officers are also monsters.
Now, at the police station, when they find those kids, I knew something was wrong. Why tie up little children in a cell like that with no real purpose? Dean and Sam are too trusting sometimes. Then again, they don't really know what's going on but the fact that Castiel wanted to ditch the kids and continue on their mission... I kind of sided with Castiel which is immoral but here we are. Anyway, they take the kids to family member out of town and as they do that, Castiel finds Eve's location.
Turns out she was at the diner, one of their first spots when they were in town. With their phoenix ash bullets, Sam and Dean enter the diner and confront Eve. She explains that she came back to protect her monster children after Crowley started hunting down her "babies". She says it is for him to collect souls (isn't someone else looking for souls? hmmmmmm). She wants Sam and Dean to work with her in taking down Crowley but Dean adamantly refuses. This is where his plot armor comes in. She bites him (she's never done this btw) and he had the great idea of drinking some of the ash beforehand. So, her drinking his blood ultimately kills her. Then, with her dead, Castiel has his powers back and takes out all of the monsters she had created. We also discover that the children they saved were monsters as well. No surprise there. They go back to check on them but they and their uncle are all dead but sulfur was left behind. Demons?! Castiel is quick to get on the case but Bobby points out that Castiel was the one that killed Crowley before... Maybe Castiel is hiding something.
And wouldn't you know! They are working together! Crowley meets with Castiel back at the diner afterward... CASTIEL WHAT?! Wild. I honestly did not see that coming so that was great surprise.
20: The Man Who Would Be King
This episode was crazy. We get the perspective of Castiel and an explanation for why he is working with Crowley. First of all, he was the one that brought Sam back?! I was gooped and gopped but I also feel that it makes sense. Why would Crowley really get Sam out? Castiel makes so much more sense although it sucks that he made a mistake and left Sam's soul.
Then, Castiel goes back to heaven and while a group of angels are in awe at him and want to listen to him, Rafael wants to break Michael and Lucifer out of the pit and restart Armageddon. To stop Rafael, Crowley has an idea of gathering souls from purgatory to create a weapon.
Now, a lot of this conflict could have been avoided. If Castiel had simply been honest with the Winchesters from the start? I felt so bad that Dean was defending Castiel for so long but then the angel had to let it slip with bringing up Superman and the analogy that Bobby had brought up days before when he was spying on them. Can I also just say... The tension between Dean and Castiel is palpable. Going into this show, I was curious about the whole Destiel shipping and wondered how rooted in the actual show it was. I can say that season 6 is found guilty of dangling this relationship in the viewers faces and the chemistry between Dean and Castiel is... kind of romantic... Sure, I can understand it still being platonic because relationships are complex and you can love and care for someone without it being romantic but! I don't think shipping them together is that out of left field.
Anyways, seeing Dean so disappointed in Castiel felt like a scene out of a Kdrama. I kind of feel bad for Castiel because he's fighting this war with an arch angel and these grown men can't get over that an angel would lie to them. I understand them being upset but let's try and understand what's going on? Dean says that Castiel could've gone to him for help... With what? How to hold a wrench and shoot a gun?! What was Dean going to do? The boys are fighting!
I was so confused this entire episode, I felt like I was stuck in this alternate reality right along with everyone else. They showed Ellen but talked about her like she's always been there and I thought I was being gaslit. I even went back to see if I had missed an episode, I'm not joking.
Maybe this review is short but this episode was okay to me. I guess we are getting deeper into the angel side of things which I'm not sure interests me as much. Sam and Dean chase down fate after Balthazar went back in time to stop the Titanic from sinking. We find out later in the episode that it was so Castiel could have more souls for some kind of plan they have in this angel war. He also then goes ahead and sacrifices 50,000 people to save Sam and Dean... How sweet.
I honestly can't blame Fate. The girl is just trying to do her job and angels are messing with what I have to do. That would be so annoying. Still, did she have to kill all those people in the worst way ever? I feel like there were way easier ways to take care of these extra people. I'm also sad that we couldn't keep Ellen and Jo. I like them a lot and am still salty at their untimely demise.
18: Frontierland
How many famous episodes are there in one season? It's cowboy time! Sam, Dean, and Bobby are working to get rid of this Mother of all monsters but need Phoenix ashes in order to defeat her. Unfortunately, they have no idea where they could find a phoenix except! In Samuel Colt's journal, he writes about defeating one but it was back in the 1800's. Thankfully, Castiel is able to send them back in time with a window of 24 hours to find this phoenix and turn it to dust!
Let's not forget that we also need to beware of the angel war that is going on. We are introduced to one of Castiel's lieutenants which only means something is going to happen including her.
I do love that Dean is so excited about going to the wild west and getting to wear different clothing. I love some humor in these episodes.
Again, I want to keep this one short because I have gotten horrible at writing these! But, Dean becomes sheriff while Sam is getting the colt from Samuel. As he gets into a show down with the Phoenix (a man who was hanged in the town square and is out to get his revenge) Sam comes just in time with the colt as Samuel Colt was not willing to join the fight. All while this is going down, Castiel has lost all of his strength after being attacked by his lieutenant. In order to become strong enough to retrieve Sam and Dean before time runs out, he has to touch Bobby's soul. There is always a caveat... If he touches the soul in the wrong way, Bobby will explode. If I were Bobby, I would've let Sam and Dean have fun in the wild west forever!
As Dean is bending down to scoop up the ashes after getting a shot at the Phoenix, Castiel brings them back and it feels as though it was all for nothing. That is, until a package arrives from Samuel Colt. Now, how did this man drop off this package and get an agreement with the shipping service to wait to ship it until that day? There's no way. I had to look up if tape existed in the 1860s... it did so they're off the hook with that one. But now they have Phoenix ash!! Yay!
Holy crap, I'm back. I watched episode 15 a while ago but it took me forever to watch episode 16 so bear with me as I try to remember the details.
15: The French Mistake
Another famous one! Balthazar arrives at Bobby's (who happens to have some crazy ingredients) and sends Sam and Dean to an alternate universe. Our universe I suppose as there are no monsters and they are Jensen and Jared. They are to protect keys that Balthazar gave them. After being thrown through the window, they are on the set of their own show.
Obviously this episode is very funny and clever and, they always love roasting themselves and their fandom. I could made an entire list of things they say but I think the best part is them realizing they have money, them trying to act in a scene (which they are horrible at), and Misha. Them thinking that they found Castiel only for him to have been running lines with them? Yeah I loved it.
Sam's, or should I say Jensen's, house? And "Ruby" came back for this episode. Amazing. And the package? It's great that he just tells Misha straight up "I bought part of a dead person."
I also found it interesting to have them in a universe with no monsters. That makes their whole lives feel obsolete all of a sudden. Sure, they will go back to their universe but I would be liking the new one with fancy trailers and no demons.
The last notable part? They're over here trying to stop the angel that was sent to get the keys from them and they are stopped and everyone continues to talk about them trying to kill an extra. Thinking about that in reality is actually insane. You look over and your two lead actors are assaulting someone? But that person kills Misha and Eric! Awful! That must have been fun on set though haha.
In the end it was all a distraction for Rafael so they could get time to gather the weapons that Balthazar had gathered.
This whole angel business is a little confusing but it gave us a fun episode.
16: ...And Then There Were None
We are back to the Mother of all monsters. And Rufus is back! Yay! In this episode, they are dealing with some kind of supernatural worm that makes people killers. This Mother of monsters planted it in a mans ear and he took out his whole family.
As they investigate as FBI agents, that's when Bobby runs into Rufus who is also an FBI agent. They are running rampant. Always happy to see Rufus though. Who I'm not happy to see? Samuel! They should've let Dean fulfill his promise. And then Dean kills Gwen! No! She was innocent! But of course, it's because he has the worm!
We then realize why it's called "And Then There Were None" (love that book btw).
Next, Samuel is infected by this thing and confronts Sam. He's already learned that his grandson has his soul back and doesn't remember much of his life when he was without it. Bargaining to fill him in on the holes, Samuel underestimates how willing Sam is to "gank" him even when he has empathy and emotions. I was a bit shocked, I can't lie. Wasn't expecting him to shoot so quickly.
Although Samuel got hit in the head, he somehow comes back to life for one last hurrah. That's when they learn that this supernatural bug hates electricity as it flees Samuel's body after he runs into a live wire. Then, it goes into Bobby who then takes out Rufus! NOOOOOOOOO! I knew it was coming but I'm still upset. I liked that guy.
Fast forward, we get to learn a bit more about this mother of monsters and that this little worm is a new creature with no name yet. It also calls the mother Eve. More bible stuff HELP! And Eve is here to kill everyone and yada yada yada! All the same monster stuff. Still mad about Rufus.

13: Unforgiven
Sam and his soul are in for a ride! We as the audience get to see a bit of a flashback to when Sam was running around with his little bald grand daddy Samuel but, Sam was a little off his rockers as he was, at the time, soulless. Sam was shooting someone or something and then beating a cop until he was knocked out. Did he get the job done? Yes. Was it insane? Also, yes!
Now, we go back to the present where Dean and his now normal brother are going on a hunt after getting coordinates on their phone from a mysterious number. It leads them to Bristol, Rhode Island where three women had gone missing. Sam wants to go and Dean, being a voice of reason, says it's a little weird to go when they don't even know who sent the location. As they roll into town, Sam gets a few memories from his time of being soulless. Going down memory lane.
Now, as this episode unfolds, I found it fun that Sam is getting a glimpse of his life that he had forgotten since getting his soul back. Everyone in town remembers him as Agent Roark and he doesn't remember a thing. Well, until one of the women brings back an nsfw memory. Sam, you dirty dog! Loving the drama. And she's married!
Doesn't stop there. He was going through the town's roster. Not only that, but he and Samuel were working with the sheriff who ended up going missing during the original hunt. Problem is, Sam still doesn't remember everything but the Sheriff's wife comes to talk to him and remind him of the havoc he wreaked while he was in town. Once she realizes he doesn't remember anything, she lets him out of jail (the police officer who he knocked out before? Yeah, he locked him up) so he can help and find her husband. In the meantime, Dean is realizing that all the women that have gone missing had relations with Sam, if you know what I mean. It all seems like a trap set up for Sam.
This episode is feeling like a fun mystery so far. Things really come together once Sam remembers that he used the Sheriff as bait to get the monster they were hunting. He really did just see everyone as tools to hunt better, it's insane. Only problem is, Sam thought he had killed all the victims who had been infected by the Arachne but one survived and it was the Sheriff and he is the one that set up this trap for Sam. I kind of don't blame the guy either. He basically set him up to be the Arachne's dinner and then killed him when he was "too far gone." Even Samuel was looking at Sam like he had lost it. He shot the Sheriff like it was NOTHING!
In the final face off, Sam gets to kill the Sheriff one last time as he is know an Arachne as well. Can't beat that plot armor I guess. The kicker is that at the end of the episode, Sam remembers Hell. He can't catch a break.
14: Mannequin 3: The Reckoning
The blood sprays make me giggle every time. A classic.
Sam wakes up from his memories of Hell in which Dean says he was out for 3 minutes but Sam says it felt like a week. Then we see mister janitor killed by an anatomy dummy. So, Dean and Sam are on it.
The FBI agents are back, Lisa keeps calling Dean but he is ignoring her calls, and they figure they have a ghost on their hands but can't figure out the connection to the victim.
Then, someone else gets got! These mannequins are creepy for sure. But since the killings were all in different spots, they have to find out how the spirit is moving around. And then boom! Lisa is calling again and this time, Sam convinces Dean to pick up. Only it's not Lisa, it's her son Ben saying something is wrong with his mom and that he needs Dean to come and help. So, Sam and Dean split up.
I kind of enjoyed seeing Sam on his own, figuring out the hunt. Even with his soul, he is good at his job. He discovers a man named Johnny who worked at the factory that Rose, the woman they suspect is the spirit, worked at. He was suspicious in his interview as Sam questioned all the employees and so he deduces that Johnny is the next victim. Which, he's right! At the factory, Johnny begins to be hunted but Sam intervenes and tries to protect him. There, he gets the full story of how Johnny and his two friends bullied Rose, tricked her into thinking she had a secret admirer. They lured her to an apartment where they dressed up a mannequin as her date and when she went to leave, one of them accidentally caused her to stumble and hit her head, causing her to die. Then, they buried her body and hid the entire thing and to this day, Rose is still considered missing. Wanting to finish the hunt, Sam goes to burn Rose's bones but after Johnny goes home to his mannequin girlfriend (wtf), he too falls victim to Rose's vengeful spirit. Just don't bully guys, and you will be safe.
Turns out, Rose's sister Isabel had one of her kidney's and that's how Rose had moved around to take out her revenge. I was upset that Isabel had to die in the end for all of it to stop. It was actually really sad! She was innocent!
Now, to go back to Dean and his encounter with Lisa. She is actually totally fine and Ben lied so that Dean would come back. I do like that they show how much of a bond Dean and Ben actually had. It wasn't like one shove was going to ruin their relationship forever but also understand that Lisa and Dean's relationship is nearly impossible to keep alive.
Over beers (obviously), Dean and Sam talk about how they feel bad about Isabel and how Dean's situation with Lisa and Ben has been difficult. Just brothers hashing it out like usual.
Dean will do just about anything to get Sam's soul back and that includes dying just so he can talk to Death and his reaper friend Tessa. He assumes that Death can go into the pit and retrieve Sam's soul and he assumes correctly. The only thing is he gets the same warning that he got from Castiel. Sam's soul has most likely been tortured by Lucifer and Michael meaning if his body and soul return to one another, he may not survive from the trauma. Death does offer to put a wall up, suppressing the memories so that Sam can live as comfortably as possible. Only issue is that this wall can come down if Sam wills it enough. You know what Dean thinks? That it's a pretty good deal. Then again, everything ends up working out for these two brothers so I can't blame him for expecting only the best case scenario to roll out.
Now! Death has a condition. Dean must do his job for one day. Putting on Death's ring will give him the abilities of Death and he must collect souls from those who's time it is to pass. If he takes the ring off at any time, he loses and Sam's soul remains in the pit.
The first few souls are easy for Dean. One is of a man who was robbing a store and the store owner shot him. Dean figured the guy deserved it so no biggie! The second was a man who got a heart attack from eating poorly for years. For Dean, that's not too bad. The issue comes when he needs to collect the soul of a young cancer patient. Her being a child and the only family her father has left makes it nearly impossible for Dean to collect her soul. He refuses and in doing so, one of the nurse's schedule in the little girl's surgery goes home early and dies in a car accident. It's the consequences of the little girl remaining alive and Dean is ridden with guilt. I'm surprised he didn't think there would be consequences. He has seen far too much to not know that things like life and death demand a balance. Then again, he has escaped death countless times so perhaps he figured an innocent little girl deserved the same grace. The consequences continue when the nurse's husband begins to spiral and drives while intoxicated, about to kill himself. With the ring on, no one can hear or see Dean so he removes it to save the man's life. Therefore, Dean loses.
All while this is happening, Sam is determined to not get his soul back. He meets with Balthazar to ask if there is a way to avoid the joining. The angel tells him if the vessel is not in the proper condition, the soul will not want to join the body. In doing that he needs the sacrifice the blood of his father. Seeing as John is dead, the loop hole is a father figure: Bobby. So, Sam pretty much hunts Bobby as Dean is doing what he can to retrieve his soul. If Sam was hunting me? I would actually die from fear. He's like 7 feet tall and has no emotions. No way I'm surviving.
Death still grants Dean's wish as he feels Dean learned a lesson regardless. Against Sam's will, his soul is returned to his body and Death warns him not to mess with the wall.
12: Like a Virgin
With Sam's soul back, the boys are back on the hunts! The first scene with the couple in the plane was crazy. Again, I would have died of fear if I was in a tiny plane, the pilot got ripped out from his seat, and the plane began to plummet.
Anyways, back to Sam's soul. When Castiel touches it, he says it was as if it had been skinned alive. I fear for Sam's well being more than Dean does, I'll tell you that! But, Castiel also says he doubts he'll wake up but he does! Unfortunately, he doesn't remember anything since sacrificing himself and throwing himself into the cage with Lucifer and Michael. I have to point out, Sam says he's starving and they cut to him eating the tiniest little piece of bread I have ever seen. Get that man some real food. Dean decides not to tell Sam any details. I figure he's afraid to worry Sam seeing as he just came back and is in a fragile state. That doesn't stop from everyone acting weird around Sam and of course, he notices.
They go on this hunt to find they are dealing with multiple missing girls. It's interesting to see Sam be kind to witnesses and family members again and I know Dean is happy to have him back to "normal". After Dean steals the victim's diary, he figures that the connection to all the missing girls is that they're all virgins. That is confirmed when another girl is taken but quickly returned because her purity ring was a LIE! The shame....
1, 2, skip a few, we are dealing with dragons! Once again, hunters who go after monsters and demons are skeptical at the existence of dragons. Be so for real.
As they do their research, Sam is getting more and more convinced that Dean isn't telling him a few things about the time he's been gone. While Dean is off to talk to a professor that Bobby suggested he visit, Sam tricks Castiel into telling him everything that Dean won't.
Dean's visit with Dr. Visyak is definitely funny especially when he thought he would be able to pull the sword out of the rock it was trapped in. He figured since he's a vessel he's the chosen one too? Anyways, they learn about how to kill a dragon which is by using a blade forged with dragon's blood. Dean breaks it as he tried getting it out of the rock it's in (way to go). Thankfully it will still work.
Sam and Dean find the lair of the dragons and go to rescue the girls and of course, Sam did not admit to dean that he knows everything. They kill one dragon but one gets away. At least they saved those girls, right?
We have a brotherly moment of Sam admitting to Dean that he now knows everything that happened and Sam apologizes. Cute.
Remember how they saved all the girls? Yeah, they didn't. There was another dragon running around, DAMMIT! And he had a ton of virgins! These dragons are summoning something from purgatory. Mother of all.
Just one thing. Why are the virgins always women? Like... male virgins exist right? RIGHT?!
Welp! Welcome Mother of all! Can't wait to find out what that means!
Another episode I have been waiting on. The fandom seems to love this one and I found out why. I'm starting to enjoy the case episodes with soulless Sam. He's so productive yet the worse person to have as a partner in hunts. His duality impresses me.
At first, we are lured to believe that we are dealing with Aliens when Patrick is out with his girlfriend in the corn field. Already. why on Earth would you ever do that? In the middle of the night to top it all off? If they had stayed home like they should have, then maybe Patrick would still be skipping around town.
The opening being switched with one like the opening of X-files? These writers are having way too much fun but I am not mad. Let them have their silly episodes.
Sam and Dean do the usual round of interviews and the moment the blond woman talked about fairies, I knew what episode I had on my hands. It always baffles me that Sam and Dean are so quick to ignore what other people say when it comes to lore that they aren't familiar with. You hunt ghosts and demons for a living my brother. What do you mean by "Look, if you want to add glitter that flue you're sniffing that's fine." Oh yeah, these writers are cracking their knuckles and giggling with pure joy when it came to this dialogue.
Dean wants to teach Sam about empathy which is funny because Sam is acting like men in real life without his soul. Clock it.
Now, the clock shop they find Mr. Brennan at (Patrick's Father) is adorable. Something straight out of Ella Enchanted (love that movie). Supernatural really does need some whimsy in it sometimes because the more I hear about angels and demons, the more I feel as though I am being indoctrinated by the Holy Bible and it's little stories. Too far? Anyways, the brothers are posing as journalists which is really refreshing from their FBI get up. Patrick's father does. not. give. a. GAF! He's dead set on his boy being gone and that's about it. The man knows something, that is clear.
I'm gonna skip ahead on this a bit and the scene of Dean being practically chased by fairies as he screams "UFO" is absolutely hilarious. Sam on the phone? Just like Patrick's father. Does not care. He is more concerned about getting a refill on his drink as dean runs for his life. At least he had the sense to search for him... for about two hours. When he gathers with the people searching for UFO's in the sky and says he's had enough time to get over his brother's disappearance and the woman asks if it happened when they were kids and he says it happened an hour ago? Again, I did in fact laugh out loud. Maybe Sam doesn't need his soul back! Additionally, the man at the site who claims to know all about UFOs? I clocked him so fast, I think I'm getting good at this.
Dean gets back on his own in true American fashion. Bang bang! He comes home to Sam in bed with the woman from the UFO site. He is... amusing. If I were Dean, I would have gone with my instincts. Dean's is to beat up Sam so he should let loose with that wonderful technique. Oh gosh there is too much to say about this episode. Maybe when Sam brought up probing for the tenth time Dean could have swung a bit. Then again, Sam is acting a little bit of Dean.
Fast forward to the fairy coming back for Dean? She was so sparkly but no clothes? C'mon girl! Have some decorum. And Dean calling her a b**ch?! Ok, maybe she deserved that but getting blown up in the microwave sounds like a horrible way to die. The cherry on top is Sam being unable to see any remnants of this fairy. They haven't come to terms with the existence of these magical creatures but they're about to have to in order to fight these things off even though Dean's first guess was smurfs... Nice job.
They meet with the glitter glue sniffing lady in her humble abode and learn all about the realm that these fairies come from. Only people who have been to their realm and have returned can see the fairies, they only take first born sons (they can take some more if they want), and she figures they are taken to service Oberon, King of the fairies. Dean's reaction is giving that she has guessed correctly. They also learn that fairies love cream, hate iron and silver, and spilling sugar or salt distracts them as they have to count every single grain.
Skipping to the end, they discover that Mr. Brennan made a deal with the fairies, unknowingly sacrificing his son. A leprechaun was at the center of the deal and he even offers Sam's soul back in which Sam seems to hesitate on taking his deal seriously. In the end, he spills salt for the leprechaun to count and uses part of the spell he was given by Brennan to rid Earth of the fairies. He came in clutch at the end.
10: Caged Heat
Ugh, back to the search for purgatory with Crowley. Serious stuff, no more fun time. He's been kidnapping, torturing and questioning monsters that may have intel and somehow, he's making me feel bad for them. Demons suuuuuuck!
Sam and Dean are still doing Crowley's dirty work of collecting these monsters but not for long. Winchester's always have a plan OUT! Let's go, boys.
Oh wait! Meg is back! Another character that deserves getting called b**ch. Hot take.... I prefer the performances of Meg's actresses over Ruby. There! I said it! They have convinced me of her wickedness every time. Flawless. I'll admit, that was a pointless opinion but there you have it.
Meg needs help from the brothers as she is running scared from Crowley after being a Lucifer loyalist. She wants to kill Crowley and Sam has the bright idea of working together with her to get into Crowley's lair. This oughta be fun.
For the rest of this episode, I kind of just want to cover the overall things we learn here. Samuel has a goal to get his daughter back as Crowley promised him he could do that. He is foolish enough to trust a demon but so are Dean and Sam. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He even ends up betraying them which is crazy and gets his own grandsons locked up to be killed by these demons.
We learn that Sam doesn't want his soul back after hearing Castiel talk about the fact that his soul is probably tarnished and has been tortured by Lucifer and Michael. Sam might not even survive getting it back but Dean is hell bent on returning it. I don't blame Sam for being against it because he would want to endure that?
Castiel burns Crowley's bones. Is he really dead? I doubt it because that felt way too easy. Castiel also kissed Meg? Just why? That was crazy. Lastly, he is dealing with a war upstairs that he is losing. The poor guy looks STRESSED.
