Little Robert was seven when he saw his first Kaiju. On TV, too close to it to be healthy for his eyes, amazed at the grandiosity of it, at the shapes and colours and how it moved. More than anything, he was amazed at the superheroes fighting against it. The team was efficient, fast and beautiful to watch. His father’s team. The Brave Brigades.
Chase had come home with his father with so many tales, Robert listened and stared eagerly at any information he could have. Robbie had passed by him without a glance, directly into his and Robert’s mother room. She, too, left the room to tend to his father, be his wounds or emotions. She was quite good at it, taking care of the Robertsons.
But little Robert didn’t care for more than the informations Chase would give, and later he would study, be obsessed with it. The Brave Brigades the first heroes to fight a Category II Kaiju, the highest category to have in that time.
Until months later, another Kaiju. In a short period of time, another. And another. One year later, a Category III. Less than a semester later, a Category IV.
Little Robert saw less and less of his father in his house and more on the TV.
As the threat grew, humans created the Jaeger. Big robots controlled by humans to fight the Kaiju. Now there wasn’t many villains and hero fights. Meta human rivalry. It was the human kind against the strange and alien Kaiju.
To little Robert every Jaeger was an extension of Mecha Man suit’s, that now had upgraded to a Jaeger suit too. Bigger, stronger, and no longer an only pilot system, now with his mother and his father piloting the giant. To Little Robert, all this that was happening was another Tuesday, as every other person think in a world of heroes and villains.
Robert was eleven when his mother was killed in front of him in a Kaiju attack in Los Angeles. He didn’t view himself as little anymore. His father didn’t see him as little anymore, too.
Robert was fifteen when his father was killed next to him in the Jaeger suit they were pilots of.
Robert was fifteen when he first pilot the Mecha Man Jaeger alone.
So, I’ve had this ready for some time now but life has a way of… getting in the way. Work, college, my mom almost dying (she’s okay now). Love my life, it does look like a rom com sometimes.
I’m in writers block, have everything sketched in my head but I JUST CANT WRITE IT. So, if anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears.
