summer heat seeps underneath the teflon of mia’s suit, sticking to her skin like melting candy. she pulls her mask off, discarding it to the side of where she sat on the hood of damian’s car. the breeze feels nice, she thinks, hair being pulled and pushed by the wind. it’s growing longer and wilder these days. she’ll have to buy real hair ties soon -- maybe on a quieter day filled with less work, more errands. ...it seems to her that there are no more quiet nights left in gotham, though. a slow breath pushes past parted lips, her gaze fixed on the city before them. everything looks so distant when they’re perched on the manor’s overlook. it’s almost deceivingly peaceful. “do you ever think about leaving?” mia doesn’t turn to look at him when she asks, focused on the twinkling embers of their burning city.

“No, don’t come near me, please.” There was a look of panic on Alice’s face as she stared into the eyes of the passerby. Her nose was bleeding – probably due to the stress of everything going on in Gotham – and she was trying her best to stop it with the sleeve of her jacket. “Could you grab me some napkins from the counter,” she said, nodding her head towards it. “Put them on the table, but whatever you do, don’t get too close.” She knew that she sounded like a lunatic, but she couldn’t risk someone getting infected by the Tetch virus. And it wasn’t like she could torch a coffee shop with people inside it. She wasn’t a brute like most of the Gothamites walking the streets.

okay, so, she's either crazy, or just plain scared to the point of craze. either way, mia knows better than to approach crazy with more crazy. "ummmmmm," she looks right, she looks left, and turns back to the strange woman with a slightly disgruntled smile--like she's only wearing the expression because she isn't sure what else to do. "okay, okay, just.. take a deep breath in." mia does as she's asked, and grabs a handful of napkins, then gently, ever so slowly, slides them across the table to where she sat. there's an awkward shuffle at her feet, unsure of what she should do next. so, without much thought or consideration at all, mia sits down a good distance away from her--the table next to hers, just for good measure. "you okay? i get nosebleeds when the weather changes, too," she beams, comfortable in her slumped posture over the back of the chair. “i’m maps, by the way. what’s your name?”

Gender: fraternal twins - mika identifies female, kido non-binary

General Appearance: tall and hot. kido as an adult is covered in tattoos. mika doesn’t have any at all, and doesn’t plan to get any. why would she when she can already feel it every time kido gets one?

Personality: kido, a reckless and adventurous person with a heart that’s easy to wound. they’re always landing in trouble somehow, and barely scrapes by to get out of it, usually needing assistance from mika. a good kid with a good heart, but struggles to grow up and take responsibility. mika is just as reckless and adventurous, but impossibly smart, so all of her actions are done for a reason. if she jumps off a cliff, everyone else does too, simply because they know that she’s thought it out and done the work enough to know it’s safe and the best option. well, maybe not safe, but definitely the best option. they’re constantly finishing each others sentences, saying things at the same time without meaning to, and always knows what the other wants / is feeling at any given time.

Special Talents: high level magic. unbreakable physic link. they’ve known about this power since in the womb. they thought this was only in terms of telepathy. what they didn’t know, is that physical and spiritual changes are also felt. this was discovered for the first time on two different occasions. the first, when kido broke their arm in the second grade. mika, despite having no evidence of a broken bone, also had to wear a cast. the second, when mika used dark magic, and kido fainted from the exertion.

Who they like better: neither of them have a preference... but one time they were asked this by their grandma zatanna. after stating they have no preference, mika immediately piped up to say, “you just thought that mom is better.” telepathy makes secrets hard.

Who they take after more: both

Personal Head canon: kido moves to japan as an adult and joins a crime syndicate, and mika becomes a famous model. they speak every single day. mika tries not to worry, and lies that she doesn’t. re: ...but telepathy makes secrets hard.

Face Claim: “if you mess with one of us,” “you mess with both of us.” the west twins, age 14. first day of high school. no one ever messed with them again. (bonus: sibling love)

General Appearance: the kind of woman you’d avoid approaching at a bar unless you were already three drinks deep in confidence, hadeya is tall, dark, and gorgeous. often stopped on the street and asked to model. resting bitch face all day. she keeps her hair at right above shoulder length.

Personality: hadeya is, first of all, way too smart for her own good, and full of snarky one liners. it’s hard to get into a full conversation with her, but even in those cases she’s more prone to two word answers, or asking questions instead of being the one questioned. she’s tough, almost always right, and thinks everyone around her works either too slowly or too quickly. highly emotional, but not very sensitive. curious and serious, likes to observe and absorb more than she likes to lead. when she’s malicious, it’s on purpose. in fact, she rarely does anything without purpose.

Special Talents: the best goddamn detective you’ve ever met in your life. stealth mode + 10000000000000infinityforever. so good that maps and damian didn’t even prove her vigilante double life until she was twelve. she had already been operating for two years under the name ‘shadow’ at that point. they had suspicions, but damn. girl is good at covering her tracks.

Personal Head canon: she’s the first recruit of the new and improved justice league elite, aka the secret black-ops team of JLA. the only reason why damian and mia even know about this... is because they are the ones who recreated the team in their own image. a better one. hopefully less corruption. similar to the original elites team, no one knows anyone else’s true identity except for the founders. hadeya’s alias under this team is onmitsu.

Face Claim: “see that’s where you fucked up. i’m not a girl to be saved. i’m a girl to be saved from.” hadeya wayne, age 16. dumping her first and last boyfriend. he had a complex. she didn’t have the patience for it. (bonus: mia and babs with grown up hadeya. yes, it is frustrating how mia never ages.)

General Appearance: rowan is somehow taller than both of her parents, and doesn’t let them forget it. she is always impeccably dressed and at the very least has her eyebrows done and her lashes extended. she believes you should always look like you’re about to see your worst enemy. aka better than them.

Personality: large and in charge, rowan is not only the loudest and strongest voice in the room, but she’s also usually the smartest, too. a natural born leader who could honestly go on to become president of the world if she really wanted to. rowan has somehow managed to do it all and maintains it. she was always president or captain of every club or sport she ever did, on top of being top of her class, a hero, and a normal teenage girl. does no harm, but takes no shit. she’s here, she’s queer, and she’s not going anywhere.

Special Talents: please do not fight rowan physically or verbally unless you want to get decimated. venom bonded with her at birth, but does not switch hosts until she leaves for college. it was fun, but also not so fun surprise.

General Appearance: dandy has a tuft of golden hair, and skin with the same pigment. he glows when he’s experiencing positive moods, and sometimes drops fluffy pollen.

Personality: dandy is literally the best boy to have ever come to existence. a filial son who loves and respects women. soft spoken and kind hearted. on the shy side and tends to hide behind his moms if he’s feeling anxious. has never said a mean thing to anyone, has never thought a mean thought about anyone.

Special Talents: being the Best Plant Boy In The World. also low level plant growing powers. he has literally no control over it and it’s all guided by emotion.

Personal Head canon: has a lot of anxieties when it comes to the unknown and the uncontrollable. this can be something as small as driving, to something vast and heavy like death. he’s only ever spoken to rose about this, namely because a large part of his fear is that maps will get hurt in action.

more than anything, mia misses her family. such a simple problem to have as the city falls apart around her -- everyone is missing someone. her knuckles brace the kitchen sink of the tower, skin turning pink, red, white. there is nothing special about this pain, she reminds herself. so why are her eyes welling with tears? her breath huffs, partly out of frustration, the other parts full of worry. it’s better this way; at least mia has the privilege of knowing her family is out of gotham and safe. the sound of footsteps behind her startle mia out of the hole she nearly spiraled into. “hey, kori,” she glances back, then moves her eyes back forward, the back of her hand quickly wiping both eyes clean. when she turns back around it’s with a smile, the small of her back resting against the edge of the counter, her palms still burning red from the too tight grip around it. “you hungry? i was just about to bake some ‘pick-me-up’ cookies for the team.” it sounds much more useless out loud than it did in her head, and mia mentally adds it to a list of shortcomings. she grins, showing all her teeth. “what’s your favorite kind?”

Punchline smiled at the girl’s question. It hadn’t taken all that much convincing for Mia to come and meet her. Despite no doubt, what the people she knew must have been telling her. The horror stories surrounding Punchline. Joker’s right hand woman. There were whispers on the streets of her cruelties so even if Maps didn’t hear of it from her friends, she no doubt heard it from somewhere else. She was tempted to answer her question truthfully. Punchline ran with Joker and Joker had a way of getting his way. Be it by scaring people into submission or just by killing them. Sometimes, all he had to do was ask someone nicely for their house and they’d hand over the keys with trembling hands. Of course they were still on the run. People were clown hunting after all. She glanced over the girl, interested that she’d want to help her. “I’m fine right now but… where would you be offering exactly?”

the idea of -- god knows what -- joker and his crew getting up to anything feels like a bad idea to mia. her lips press into a thin line, the act of tension the only reason why her frown leaves. what did that mean? how was she fine right now? mia knows better than to ask for clarification, certain she wouldn't like the answer. but how is her idea any better than whatever it was punchline and the clowns were already doing? mia thinks of the empty building where she grew into a hero, and feels the uncertainty pulling in her stomach. but that’s not how people should treat one another. it’s not how a hero should treat someone. “...the academy,” her arms uncross from her chest, fingertips twitching at her side, “it’s empty right now, and it’ll have everything you need.” it’s just an added bonus that mia knows every single in and out of the place and can keep an eye on her. she doesn’t mention that part. “or the groundskeeper’s cottage. he’s missing, so... pretty sure it’s open.” and, mia has never met a lock she can’t pick. she takes a step closer, looking her in the eye when she makes it clear that, “i’m only offering it to you. and.. you can take me up on it whenever, but just. you.”

Now he was in what he thought was an abandoned house, and was way in over his head. He hadn’t eaten in hours so if he used his speed, he could risk draining himself. “LEETS” he said and the wooden bat in his hand morphed into the hard metal. “Stupid …. fucking ….clowns.” he grunted which each swing. He pressed into his watch, which acted as a communicator. “CAN I GET SO BACK UP HERE? THEY JUST KEEP COMING!” he yelled before swinging again. @fallengothamstarters

is it just mia, or has gotham really been knocked down several pegs? she sprints across rooftops on another work filled night, skirting to a stop when wylder's voice comes blaring in through the in ear communicator. “i hear you,” she answers halfheartedly, more focused on locking in his coordinates, “i see you,” louder, this time, before she’s off following a blinking red dot. mia comes swinging in through a window, knocking a clown down in the process when her feet plant firmly on his back. but she’s not thinking about him when she steps off the body and lets her fist collide in the jaw of another. mia’s head turns to grin at wylder, pulling her staff out with a flick of her wrist. in that moment, she decides his level of loud seems fun. “HEY DUDE, YOU CALLED? ALL OF GOTHAM CAN HEAR YOU YELLING.”

mia shifts where she stands, uncomfortable for a long list of reasons that only continues to grow. a frown etches across her lips, worry lines appearing at the corners of her strained expression. this isn’t what she promised she’d do--she’s not supposed to be here with punchline. her loyalties don’t lie here. that alone is enough to make mia unsettled by her own concern over the older woman. “where are you sleeping these days?” she sighs, letting her shoulders finally relax underneath the swinging overhead light. what is it with gotham and over half of the meeting places being some weird warehouse? where are people even getting all these warehouses? “i know a couple places... if you need one.”

This usually tended to be the way that things went with more…domestic things like this. Mia easily taking charge and Damian letting her because he’s always been better at expressing himself through his aggression than in these lighter moments. He let himself be nudged and poked towards the door, glancing back at her for a moment before he nodded and made his way down towards the Titan’s kitchen to do as he had been told, trying not to let his mind spin too much now that he was alone. He came back a few minutes later, a tray in his hands that he sets down as he comes back into the room, nothing about the view before him unusual. She had worn him down to the point that this was normal, comfortable, even, and the thought had a warm feeling spreading throughout his chest as he settled onto the bed beside her, arm brushing against hers as he got comfortable. He preferred to believe that she was always the one to initiate contact between them but the truth was that where words failed him, they seemed to speak the same language when it came to gentle touches, which was probably why they fought more when others were around than when they were alone.

“hi,” her smile spreads like honey across the lips, shifting and adjusting until they could fold comfortably with one another. mia starts the movie with her arm tucked under his head and both hands moving as she talks, the free arm much more wild than the other, “we’re watching summer wars, which is hands down, one of the best anime movies of all time. how’s your japanese?” mia’s aware of his range of languages, but it’s hard to keep track of everything damian can speak outside of english and arabic. “either way--there are subtitles.” mia falls silent when the movie starts to play, sipping at her tea carefully. spilling hot water all over herself and his bed did not sound like a great way to end an already long day. after some time, mia sets the mug back down, and inches closer to his side. with the hand attached to the arm under him, she gently nudges knuckles against his jaw, lips pressed in a tight line. “hey,” she finally says, an eyebrow lifted, “are you being serious about taking it easy? you know i’m scheduled to patrol tomorrow... and, you know, if i’m not out on patrol, i’m just gonna train, so....” so the danger of others is the only real difference, and if that’s all, then does it matter? not to her.
