Tai Pham headcanons?

Why of course!

He’s the youngest lantern earth has ever had.

Likes to do creative activities like drawing, painting, writing, and making music and feels like it helps him get more connected with his powers once he gets his ring.

He is tall for his age in my mind, I don’t necessarily think he is super tall as an adult but he’s the tallest on the team initially when they form.

He gets his ring and then like 2-3 months later joins NYJ on the recommendation of the other lanterns as a way to sorta keep better tabs on him.

He’s overall a very independent kid and both in his hero and regular life he is able to handle his stuff without a lot of help and dislikes people doubting him.

He eventually learns to play guitar and likes to write songs in his free time.

I know him and Irey team up in one of the later books (which I did not read tbh and forgot about entirely before looking it up), so I imagine the two of them get along really well and just have a very easy friendship and work well together on the field as well.

He didn’t know anyone before joining the team and was the only one to not have at least met some of their teammates prior to officially forming.

Tai is one of the oldest on the team (second to Lian who is oldest)

He is close with his siblings and family but doesn’t really talk with them as much about his hero work (I imagine in main continuity his grandmother would not have been a lantern so maybe he had an older relative he descends from who was a lantern). Him and Maps bond over this because her parents don’t “get” it as much either.

He is a good cook and enjoys cooking for the team on the weekends as one of his chores, especially recipes he learned about from his family.

He hadn’t been out to the country/a farm very much until he went to stay at the team base (which is at the Treehouse of Solitude out in Hamilton county and is definitely fully in the country) and he took a while to adjust to life away from the city when they aren’t on patrol or on a mission in a city

I am gonna be honest with you: you work is amazing and a inspiration for me. I even make my own version of the story with Tai instead of Milagro on the team and your notes helped me a lot. I hope you enjoy it and be proud of what you did for so many lifes, not just me.

My team is called The Unwanted because it started as a meta commentary on DC, but now is:Unwanted: Is easy to be feel like there is no place for you in something good. But with a name like Unwanted? Everybody can fit in somehow

Sorry I never responded to this! I think they are called New Young Justice by others initially to distinguish between the older YJ with Tim, Bart, etc. but eventually I think it would be just Young Justice and I think that is their official team name. It would have been the Teen Titans but they are not all teens when the team forms!

Irey x Damian Headcanons

Irey I feel like is sometimes seen as super bubbly and cheerful, which she definitely is, however she’s also super sarcastic and witty and I think that’s what he likes about her the most

They are about a year apart in age, Irey is a year and grade younger. They start dating at the beginning of his senior year when she is a junior when he is 17 and she is 16.

They don’t get along the best as kids because they’re both super stubborn, but I think once they grow past the competitiveness they have with each other they start to see other qualities about the other that they really like.

Damian likes to draw/paint and Irey likes to journal/write. They like to sit and do that together especially at the tower when they have some free time.

Jai is disapproving at first. Not in a super aggressive or bad way he just doesn’t think they will really click initially.

Irey visits him in Gotham after school when she has the chance since it’s pretty easy with her powers to do so, but she prefers when he comes to Keystone.

They are both pretty involved in extracurriculars and stuff outside of school. Damian helps Kathy with the animals on the farm some days during the week and is in the detective club and a few other things. Irey is on the school newspaper and eventually is the editor as well as in some science competitions and clubs that she does with Jai. Because of that the majority of the time they spend together is at the tower on weekends.

Both of them are pretty independent people which makes their relationship super healthy even though they get together in high school. They both have friends and interests outside of each other and are super supportive of that.

Damian loves her super long hair and freckles.

They have nearly identically colored eyes. Both are extremely green, Damian’s because of being put in the Lazarus pit and Irey just due to genetics.

Initially I think Irey is a little self conscious about the financial gap between them, she grew up middle class and they struggled a bit when she was younger and he’s obviously super rich. They definitely work it out eventually but it’s just something that’s hard at first. Most of their dates are not expensive though they love going to vintage stores or movies and they like to cook/bake together.

I think they’d also do “tourist” dates in each other’s cities too.

I get so mad that DC hasn’t expanded on so many of Damian’s relationships in the comics because I think a ton of his development comes from his interactions with a wide range of kids his age who have had entirely different experiences.

I think for example you look at his dynamic with Jon who basically spent the first 9 or so years of his life living a completely “normal” childhood and not even knowing his dad was Superman and see how even as a hero himself, Jon is still a super normal kid. His hero work does not change the fact that he is still ten years old when he becomes Superboy and his youth and optimism are actually Jon’s strengths in his hero work. A lot of their adventures together as the supersons are fun and I think in part Jon shows Damian that being a hero and being a kid can be fun even when they are doing the right thing or helping others.

Maya is a character that I think is so similar to Damian in her upbringing and shows that you can break away from your past. My favorite line in Robin: Son of Batman is when Maya talks about the R on Damian’s suit standing for redemption. Maya and Damian are two characters who I think both get their redemption and get a chance to do the right thing even though it goes against what they were trained for from birth.

When it comes to Damian and Jai and Irey, I think it’s interesting that they were raised almost entirely opposite. Irey and Jai grew up knowing all about the hero lifestyle and while I don’t think it was something they were forced into, they were pretty much always going to be heroes. I think they can show how different the hero life is for each person and it isn’t always something you “choose” unlike Damian who consciously decides to be a hero even with his dad being one.

I also think with someone like Maps it’s really cool to see Damian interact with “normal” people that share the same passion for uncovering what is going on in Gotham and helping their community. Maps shows Damian that being a hero isn’t the only path to making a difference in your community.

Colin is another example of someone who helps him see what he is actually fighting for by being a hero. Colin is a victim of a lot of the corruption and problems facing Gotham both through him being experimented on and by being in the foster system and suffering in the corrupt systems in Gotham. Colin doesn’t have the resources or opportunities to become a hero that Damian does but he still chooses to help.

In Superman, Kathy does nearly kill him and I don’t think they directly interact in a way that really helps him grow haha, but I do imagine them to have a lot in common due to a shared interest in animals and I think Damian would enjoy visiting her farm and helping with all of the animal related chores. Also same for Lian, I don’t think her and Damian have directly interacted at all but I think, despite being a hero and having tons of interests in things that have nothing to do with fighting or weaponry or anything like that (which people love to forget), I think him and Lian would have a good time throwing knives and stuff like that which Lian is probably obsessed with.

But yeah… I wish they would let him be with his friends DC I beg. That’s why I made my own team for him and I love to explore the differences between all of their upbringings despite them all ending up in the same place and becoming heroes.

FAQs

Hi everyone! I am always so bad about being on here, but I wanted to make a list of FAQs about my Young Justice team! Always feel free to ask anything or send in any requests!

Who is on Young Justice?

The team roster is Damian Wayne (Robin), Jon Kent (Superboy), Kathy Branden (Beacon), Maya Ducard (Nobody), Colin Wilkes (Abuse), Tai Pham (Green Lantern), Irey West (Thunderheart), Jai West (Surge) and then reserve/non-initial members Maps Mizogushi and Suren Darga (Brightburn)

Maps does not initially go into the field and does mission support/detective work. She is later trained in martial arts! All of them have their powers/abilities from the comics.

Where did the idea come from?

When Patrick Gleason was writing for DC, he initially wanted to have a Teen Titans team with Damian, Kathy, and Maya. There was also a comic with Irey west being on a team with Damian that was scraped, so my idea comes from that and just adding some other characters that Jon and Damian interacted with either in their comics or in supersons.

What changes are there from canon?

So I think in terms of powers and general backstories I am keeping everything the same (however there are like 1000 different “canons” in comics and I do not claim to be in expert in the lore of every single one so please give me a little bit of grace here)

Kathy is adopted by the Kents after they move to Metropolis so she is Jon’s adoptive sister.

Another key change is a lot of characters erased by a reboot or from a different alternate timeline are included (ex Chris Kent, Mar’i Grayson, the Tornado Twins are all in the current timeline and are in my universe despite them not being in current DC canon)

Also just for things to make sense, Irey and Jai aged rapidly from ages 2 to 8 or so. Wally and Linda got married young in my mind but I think they were married when they had the twins which would make sense as Roy was very young when Lian was born (19-20ish) and Roy is similarly aged to Wally, so that is canon just so that everyone’s ages line up.

How old are they?

At team formation, Damian, Colin, Maps, and Tai are 13, Maya, Suren, and Lian are 12, Irey and Jai are almost 12, and then Kathy and Jon are 11. Colin is the oldest and Jon is the youngest and they have a 2ish year and 2 grade age gap. Damian, Colin, Maps, and Tai are in 8th grade, Maya, Suren, Lian, Irey, and Jai are in 7th grade, and Kathy and Jon are in 6th grade.

Who dates each other?

Some current ships I have (I have changed these up a bit from what I have said earlier) are Irey and Damian, Kathy and Maya, Suren and Mara Al Ghul, Tai Pham and Sin Lance, and Jon and Mar’i Grayson. They all get together in later high school and all these ships have no more than a 1 grade level aged difference bc anything else at that age is super weird imo. I am a multi shipper though and will not bash any ship so long as they are appropriate. I also think a lot of them have crushes on other people/each other growing up as that’s natural and normal at that age. Kathy is bisexual and Maya is a lesbian. Jon is bisexual like in canon. Irey and Jai are straight. The rest, I don’t know🤷‍♀️. I am happy to talk about any relationship/friendship dynamic on the team.

Who is the team leader?

They could not agree on one and let’s be honest, no one is listening to 13 year old Damian. Jon and Damian found the team, but each of them take on a leadership role for what they are best at. Space mission? Kathy is in charge. Undercover work? Probably Maya. Something related to a Flash villain would probably have Irey and Jai in charge. They each have different tasks at their base as well that they each are responsible for.

Where is their base?

It is Maya and Kathy’s canon base the tree house of solitude in Hamilton county out a little bit from where Kathy’s farm is. Maya lives there full time pretty much and Suren will live there sometimes too, but everyone else will just come for weekends and a majority of the time in the summers.

Where do they live/family relationships?

Maya and Suren are the outliers here because they jump around from place to place, but all of the team has “adopted” them and they are welcome to stay with anyone on YJ.

Kathy and Jon live in Metropolis with Clark, Lois, Chris, and Kon

Irey and Jai live in Keystone city with Wally and Linda.

Damian lives in Gotham with his siblings and Bruce and Alfred

Colin lives in a foster home/orphanage in Gotham City

Maps lives with her brother and parents in Gotham

Tai lives in Coast city with his sisters and parents and grandmother

Lian lives in Star City with her dad

Are there other young hero teams?

Yes! In my canon, all young heroes have to either join a team or “apprentice” another hero to be an official/regulated vigilante. This is mostly for safety reasons in the League as they don’t want these super young heroes to be out on their own. Mar’i Grayson has a team as well with Rani Carter, Lyta Milton, Nell Little, Arthur Curry Jr., Jeffery Holt (Mr. Terrifics Kid), and Sin Lance.

Stephanie also has a team with Don and Dawn Allen, Virgil Hawkins, Chris Kent, Kara Zor-El, and Connor Hawke.

The original Young Justice and Teen Titan Teams also still exist. OG Young Justice is similar in age to Steph’s team and NYJ and Mari’s team (superfriends unofficially) are also close in age

hmm good question, i’m not too sure. I think especially when they are younger a lot of them get little crushes on each other to be honest. Definitely not Kathy though since she gets adopted by the Kents in my universe

1. I think it would be typically small things, but Lian and Irey live to annoy him. I don’t think these would be pranks to normal people, but they would rearrange his training equipment, Irey would use her speed to take him to different parts of the tower. Lian would fill his locker with random things and definitely dressed up bat cow at some point

2. Kathy can read minds, and while typically she doesn’t pry, I think she will definitely poke fun at Jon for anything crazy he thinks about or start singing songs in his head to bother him. In terms of actual pranks, they definitely have decorated his room crazy and I think Kathy would get a baby cows or other animals from the farm and label them 1 and 3 haha

3. I don’t know if they have a full on prank war, I think Maya, Kathy, Irey, and Lian are the biggest prankers to be honest, but I definitely think they mess around and tease each other quite a bit
