I detoxed off all social media for about 8 months.
Here's what I learned. The connections i had with others became more authentic and meaningful. I was less stressed, anxious, and more able to focus on things that were meaningful to me. I was more action oriented, and spent time researching and learning the things that mattered to me, rather than mindlessly scrolling through information that a social media platform had curated for me.
Since going back on Facebook in particular for the last 2 months, I have seen friends, family and strangers engaging in petty arguments, posturing, unsolicited advice giving, judgement, and I have found myself becoming addicted to gaining approval from others. If I am honest, I also fell prey to the act of comparing myself to others and was left wondering if I was enough or worthy.
The irony of me posting this on a social media platform is not lost on me, I can assure you.
Maybe this post will never be read by anyone else, and that's okay too. I have chosen to begin this blog so that i can put my thoughts and discoveries out into the world, and as a tool for self reflection. Maybe they will resonate with you, and maybe not. That's all okay by me.
As of today, I still have my Facebook page active but I am seriously considering deactivating it again, if not permanently deleting it.
I think sharing our thoughts and feelings is definitely a healthy thing to do, and I hope to learn from others using this platform and continue to evolve in ways that benefit all.
Love and light to all.
