Hiii! Long time Black follower here and I just wanna say thank you for all you do! I'm so grateful for it because even as a Black creator there's still a lot I didn't/don't know and I'm happy we can all learn from each other.

I'm not sure if this falls within the scope of the blog but i wanted to recommend some books by Black authors with Black main characters, just because!

My Sister, The Serial Killer - Set in Lagos, Nigeria. Our protagonist navigates life with her sister who just cannot seem to stop killing the men she's romantically involved with. I'm currently reading this and its a lot of fun!

The Prophets - LGBT fiction, set in the Deep South during slavery. One of the most heartrending books I've ever read, but it is incredibly worth the read. Tells the story of two enslaved men who are deeply in love with each other. Warning that it spares no detail when it comes to the torture enslaved ppl endured, but I like that it highlights that Black folks still had lives and we loved and cared and smiled even through unimaginable horror.

Everything Inside - Collection of short stories by a Haitian American author. Her Haitian heritage is woven throughout all the stories as she explores love and loss through eight different perspectives.

I must admit, I do get extremely irritated at how strong people will defend white racists of their actions on here (usually shielding behind other marginalization) and throw out words like "harassment" and "digital lynching" and will try to gaslight users of color into thinking that we just... Didn't see what happened. That we don't understand racism when we experience it.

Especially when I see myself and other more vocal users of color get harassed daily, and have to always be on guard with their social media, and no one cares because everyone prioritizes white voices here and spend no time with the rest of us via an actual, unspoken segregation of this app. But somehow we don't know what racism and harassment looks like.

So when you say "hey, this person's opinion was not an okay thing to say/their actions were not okay due to racism and I am not coddling that", you get hit with a bunch of people who believe that having "More White Voices must mean True and that Your People Did Not Experience what y'all did... Because the white people around me said it went this way! You're just Mean!!!"

Like ofc that's the perspective you heard, those are the only people you're ever around on here, and it doesn't benefit you to understand what racism actually looks like in action. So. Just irritating af.

Bc ain't no way I've experienced the range of directed racism on here, damn near every two days this year on this app, and I gotta sit here and listen to how someone being racist is actually the True Victim. That people who spend all their time la di da happy and unbothered and surrounded by fellow racists and/or complicit yet ignorant bystanders... Experienced having thet racism called out and suddenly THEY are "harassed".

How thin is your skin, that we gotta do this every day and swallow the pain, but you scream in agony the moment someone points out the truth. Okay. To quote my parents, I can give you something to cry about.

and you mean to tell me I have to keep my head up and carry on through a thousand cuts just to be in the same place y'all are, with a limited experience due to safety...

But being told when you're being racist on your public platform, where you were in fact being racist in front of everyone, is akin to social murder. Okay. Well.
