Animation is not a genre in Japan like it is here, its a media. Its also a big part of their culture. When you say ‘anime weird’, you inadvertently say ‘Japanese culture weird’, and then you cherry pick trashy schoolgirl anime as the example? That’s like picking riverdale to represent american live action TV. It seems unfair to me. Its not outwardly racist, but a joke like that does alot to ‘other’ Asian cultures like Japan.
