It’s finally happened! In a perfect Derek Craven Day celebration, our Trailblazer conversations continue this week with thee Lisa Kleypas, historical romance royalty, who changed the game when she brought working class heroes to historicals. We discuss her four decades of work in romance, from historical to contemporary to magical realism and now into historical fiction, touching on the Kleypas hero, the way she builds series, and the ways that she continues to push herself as a storyteller. And yes, she was kind enough to play a round of Derek Craven Would Never. 👓
Harlequin Discontinuing Its Historical Romance Line
For as long as I can remember, my favourite books were mass-market paperbacks. These books were affordable, they were generally $10-12 in Canada, they were small, designed to fit in a purse, and my favourite genre, historical romance, was published this way. The mass-market paperbacks are being discontinued. This has been obvious for some time, but tonight I found out that Harlequin is discontinuing its historical romance line. It breaks my heart. I've heard that younger readers aren't interested in historical romance. I don't know if that's true. I hope it's not. You can't make people like something. But I so love historical romance, and I know I'm not alone.
