▖ ❝ Yup, it does make sleeping way easier. I tried sleeping upside down once but surprisingly I woke up all dizzy. ❞ Perhaps lack of habit but her body although weird didn’t seem initially designed to do that. Pretty weird. Maybe although she could transform into a bat she didn’t share instincts and all that stuff? Well, she was human at the end of the day.
❝ It is a cute name… Can you turn into a duck? That could be a reason. ❞ A rather innocent question and, honestly, not that crazy for her standards. I mean, literally every single person she could meet while walking downtown back home had some kind of superpower, it was normal to expect. ❝ … Or perhaps you have bright yellow hair, like a duck’s feathers… That’s a pretty weird thing to say, sorry. What color is your hair? ❞ The hair reasoning seemed more likely and, honestly, she would have loved to confirm that herself but, well… you can’t sense colors through echolocation, no sound involved in colors.
❝ Thanks, by the way. I love my name despite its simplicity. ❞
“Oh, I see...guess that makes sense. It’s never fun wakin’ up all weird.” She’d always been prone to falling out of her old bed at the academy— she’s a little thankful that her bed here at least has less of a dropping distance to the floor. She’s always shrugged it off as some weird instinct thing since she’d never had that problem in water ( then again, maybe it was just a sign that child was a restless one even when sleeping ).
“H-Huh?!” Had she done something to give away her true nature— maybe her lie hadn’t been so good? No, she’s just jumping to assumptions, Koko’s following comments reassure her of that much. Haha. Ahiru should be glad that she can’t see her visible freak-out, even if the emotional pitch of her voice might’ve given her away anyways. “No, I don’t think...they’d know something like tha’ right away, right? That’d be weird, I think...‘ts just a cute name.” Maybe pretty normal in a town full of humanoid-like animals, but she’s pretty sure that would be weird to a lot of people! That’s ( partially ) why you gotta keep her mouth shut, after all. “Oh, my hair? Red— well, orange-ish. Like a duck’s beak, if we’re goin’ with that line of logic, I guess.” It’s honestly a mystery to her how most of her...person was designed, really, but even if she’d ask that voice, she doubts she’d get a truthful answer. No point lingering on it.
“Ehehe, well, it’s true! It’s a real pretty name, even ‘f it’s simple.”
