Inside Job season two definitely rings crazily different to the first one. The first season almost had Reagan's personal life as a motivation, or as a reason for her actions or growth. She hates her team, her team hates each other, and all that is jeopardised by Ultimate Precious Himbo Brett Hand, who brings enough charm and good intentions to fell an elephant. Season two has a little less conspiracy nonsense which I'm sad about but we get to focus on character development. Gigi's dynamic with Reagan, and Andre and Brett defending (?) Her from the illuminati. We see Myc as a bullied kid, a bunch of fun new office dynamics. Reagan most of all, goes from treating her relationships with others as a threat or motivation (e.g: going to the moon to escape her father, being actively scared of trusting and caring for Brett) to actually revelling in them which is... so pure to watch???

I can't imagine old Reagan stressing over asking Ron to be her girlfriend. There's one very sweet scene where she's SO EXCITED that they're at a stage of their relationship where they share useless factoids. She says I love you to her mom and is able to communicate that. There's intense scenes (her sending Brett to a safe timeline so he'll be safe) but also just super sweet ones of casual intimacy (her happily sabotaging Cognito to help Brett sabotage his political campaign without second thought 'welcome to the deepest state, friendship'). She hugs Brett about 3 or 4 times.

I've seen good and bad feelings towards the newest season but I basically feel that majorly season one was all about a quirky work drama where fun personalities ran the free World, and season two is all about Reagan and other characters healing from past trauma, and connecting, nailing that found family dynamic.

I will never be over the Reagan Ridley Brett Hand dynamic. Genius woman vs Gentle himbo is the perfect dynamic on its own, but the show does it So Well. Brett is too charming and gormless to be at all horrible, and he's also, really good at his role, which is to be very sweet and a sort of social lubricant. He's a people pleaser and that's formed him into more than a bit of a doormat. They work so well together, chill out and have fun.

Brett heals Reagan on an emotional level being a) wildly likeable and b) a safe and genuine source of support, while Reagan, after seeing Brett's merit just seems to genuinely like him. In some places she seems like taking a him as a kid who needs protecting on some form, but she also recognises that he has skills she couldn't dream of. Season 1 set them up perfectly, and season 2 has them taking the risk of offending the other to help them (see Brett hurting Reagan's feelings to tell her to go to therapy) and being comfortable insulting them (saying that Reagan was kind of a dick), while stilling loving them totally. But overall, it also sets up that Brett and Reagan, maybe unknown to anyone, even themselves, put each other first. Reagan without thought abandons the mission to sabotage Brett's career, and also seems genuinely interested and a little hurt that he never shared his crafting hobby with her. Brett is the only one who sticks with her, and is the only one who she sends away, for his own safety. She tells him about Ron and the memory, and he chooses to let her leave after seeing that the workplace is toxic, specifically for her.

Them growing from each other has me feeling so happy, I love how good they are for each other.

I hate that I can’t talk abt ORV like a normal person. I tried to explain why ORV is so good to my friend the other day, and I devolved into panting and half-thoughts like, “well first of all the main character is just a normal guy, but also completely insane. he’s extremely funny though, and that’s the most important hook. and the story is like. it’s. it’s about the narrative. it’s a story about stories. and it’s a story that loves stories. but also stories are people, and people are stories. so it’s a story about people, and a story that loves people. does that make sense?”

I have read many, many series where the main character isekai-s into a book somehow and meets the "main character" of that series, but to be perfectly honest the only one of them that I actually respect is Choi Han. He's a nice, polite young (hundred year old) man who only attacked OG!Cale because he was acting like a dick directly in front of him and has NEVER MURDERED ANYONE WHO DIDN'T HAVE IT FUCKING COMING TO THEM.

(the same cannot be said for Yoo Junghyuk, Kim Dojin, and many, many others that I can't name off the top of my head. I do not understand why the mc's read about these guys they're assholes.)

PIDW gets a pass because it was a hate-read and I can respect that.

i don't even care if he has powers because everything else about him is so funny. he has more money than he could ever use and is CEO of a thriving corporation, yet he's driven to madness by a middle class family the next state over. people find him attractive on a grand scale yet he only has eyes for a married woman he knew in college and didn't talk to for 20 years. he's smart enough to evade the law, play two sides down the middle during a ghost invasion and set up an actual cloning lab so he can make people, yet his archnemeses are a village idiot and a C student. he can't charm someone into letting him adopt them even when their parents pose actual mortal danger to them, and the one time he did succeed it brought on the apocalypse. he can't live anywhere without the place getting federal attention and/or destroyed. he can't even raise a cat right. the world would literally, canonically explode if vlad got his way for even five minutes. he is the essence of poor little meow meow
