writing for your self ship can be hard if you're struggling with writing itself. so, today, i want to help people by sharing some tips that i use for myself!
this is an easy question, you know your f/o a lot, you love them! break down their personality into small little bits. are they "shy," are they "prideful," or are they "stern?" the more simple words you break it down into the easier it is for you to write their core traits. remember too, everyone has something that makes them unique! so keep that in mind as well.
dialogue tip: it helps with dialogue as well. if they're quick to snap, you can write how they might curse and if your f/o doesn't curse at all. you can actually eliminate common phrases that people use!
what does your f/o want? what do they need?
there's a difference between a want or need! sometimes they might need a hug or sometimes they just want to be alone. wants are based off desire and needs are mandatory. think of what you think your f/o would want vs what they would need. it could help break it down for how you want to continue with your writing/story!
now this can be tricky, but the best way to do it when you're stumped! inspiration! there are many prompt generators out there that don't use AI. one example being atsuzaki-playground. you give it two names and generates a plot randomly.
another way you can do it is by reading books or watching movies that you enjoy. or you can listen to a song or watch a music video and take inspiration from that.
for example, let's take the song "pump up the volume" by plave. the group is out on a trip, they are listening to the radio, and they're singing together. based off that, i can do a fic of an f/o and the s/i at a fire camp, listening to the radio, while they sing badly together!
you can also take a piece of the lyrics and really drive home a story based off that too!
if you're nervous about using google drive. ellipsus is quick, easy, and free! it comes with multiple visual themes, a chat feature, and even a way to collab with others. it's just like google drive but without the whole "generate the text" feature. please remember, the most important part about self ship writing? its for you! don't worry about being perfect. write that dialogue as messy as you need. write it as "lazy" as you want. its for you to write out your feelings and share how much you love your f/o!
