Valentina turned to walk away from the bar after speaking to a client from work when she came face to face with a stranger's chest. Had her reflexes been slower she would have run smack into them but, she caught herself just in time. She was a bit tipsy by this point and instintively reached forward to rest her hands on this stranger's chest to stready herself from falling. "Oof! Sorry about that, babe. Should have watched where I was going." Val gave the stranger a warm smile as she looked up.

Hotaru hadn’t been paying much attention to where he was going either when they collided, his attention fixated on all the colors and decorations of the event in admiration. But as soon as they were inches apart, he carefully caught her by her upper arm to steady her where she swayed. When she puts her hands on his chest though and the young man gets a better look of her, Hotaru has to take a deep breath to not lose his cool demeanor. As if he ever had any.

“Oh- Oh no, it was my bad...” he says dropping his hands as to not come off as a creep if he let his hands linger for too long, “I wasn’t watching where I was going either,” he chuckled sheepishly, raising a hand to scratch at the back of his neck. A nervous tick that only ever made itself known when he talked with attractive people. It certainly didn’t help that she still had her hands on his chest and Hotaru really hoped that his heart rate was steady to save himself some dignity. 

“Are you alright?” he asks, matching her smile with a warm one of his own, though there’s concern in his eyes, “I doubt that we ran into each other hard enough to cause any damage...” he trails off not sure where he found the audacity to actually hold up a conversation with her, “But it doesn’t hurt to ask.”  At the very least, he was glad that he wasn’t tongue tied. Because then he’d have a lot more to be embarrassed about.

He twisted around, craning his neck, and standing up on his tiptoes in order to search for Yuan over the crowd of people. Considering that she was nearly a full head shorter than he however proved his search to be a bit more difficult. He could have sworn that she was right behind him a second ago... Or had it been thirty minutes ago? He couldn’t remember, honestly. Time was weird when he was distracted, and the Mayan event had his full attention and then some. 

“Did she say that she was going to hang out with other people?” he asked himself, but he couldn’t remember. The thought of her getting into some sort of trouble crosses his mind and his heart drops for a second. But then he remembers that Yuan was much more capable of handling herself on her own than he was handling himself and shrugs his concerns away, “She’ll turn up eventually... I hope she’s having fun,” he reasoned before relaxing. 

The Japanese demigod takes a step back to turn and head the other direction, but before he knows it, he’s bumping shoulders with someone, “Oh- I’m so sorry,” he apologizes, bowing for the stranger without a second thought, “That was definitely my bad, I wasn’t watching where I was going,” he amends as he straightens himself out again.

This is the first major event that’s taken place since his arrival on the island and he’s really excited to go and learn more about the Mayan pantheon. He didn’t want to go alone though, so he asked @mp-xinyuan​ if he could escort drag her since she planned on attending as well. He planned his outfit for an entire day and event went as far as to paint his nails in various colors because why not? Though when he sees Yuan’s attire for the evening and catches a few people passing by, obviously on their way to the even, he can’t help but feel a little under dressed. Welp, there’s always next time!

Cal danced and sang his heart out ringing around the tables with Hotaru on his arm. This was the most fun he could possibly have on the island outside of a bed but there was nothing like a song and a drink to finish off a great week. “Come on Hotaru sing with me!”

Hotaru grins back at the other demigod, taking the microphone from him and laughing loudly as he tries his best to sing along. English isn't his strongest language though, and the song is unfamiliar to him, so he trips over his words more than once. In his head he doesn't think that he sounds half bad, but the sliver of him that's still sober sure hopes that the rest of the people around them are as drunk as he feels. The less of them remembering him as the fool with his voice cracking and shattering sound barriers, the better.

Not to mention, he's pretty glad that Callum had agreed to join him. Karaoke was never much fun with just one person and Hotaru didn't have it in him to go alone just in case things got out of hand. Which was the direction things were headed if he were honest. Despite being only two cocktails in, he was already well past the point of tipsy, and darting dangerously fast toward drunk. Not that he cared at this point. All that mattered was the fun that they were having as they danced around tables singing their hearts out. When the song finishes up, Hotaru whoops and hollers, clapping his hands before dissolving into a fit of giggles. "What should we sing next?"

“Beats me,” he sighs heavily, chin propped up in his hand. His eyes remain unfocused, staring blankly and burning imaginary holes into the window pane. “Maybe if someone had convinced my mom otherwise, she’d still be around,” he says without thinking. A lingering bitterness, sadness, and anger hidden in the simple sentence. As soon as it comes out and he realizes, he immediately regrets it. He knows it’s unfair to her, and knows that she always did her best for him. But today was one of those days where he couldn’t see past the grief and anger enough to be as forgiving as he usually was. His therapist said that the pain would go away in time, but Hotaru was still waiting. 

“Sorry, you weren’t supposed to hear that,” he apologizes shaking his head and glancing over at Taeyong with an apologetic smile before looking back out the window. This time he raises a brow. When had the sky gone dark? It was only partially cloudy a while ago. Had he done that by accident again? The young man shakes his head again deciding that he needed a pick me up. “Can you pass me the salt, please?” he asked while reaching for his glass of water, “I don’t think I added enough in here.”

"Huh..." he says softly. Voice trailing off and head tilting as he looks at himself in the mirror. "I don't hate it..." he murmurs to himself as he turns to glance at his side profile, lips pursing and eyes judging. "But all this frill and lace isn't for me..." he sighs, noting the way the dress rides up. He frowns a little, but it was to be expected. This was the largest size he could find, but even then, there were still some parts that threatened to burst at the seams if he so much as moved in a particular way.

"Oh, but the stockings are nice I guess," he shrugs, wincing when he hears the slightest stretch of the fabric, deciding that he best get out of the dress now before he ultimately ruins it. 

His hands smooth themselves over the material of the dress one last time. He'd thrown it on out of pure curiosity after all. A curiosity that had been nagging him since childhood, especially when his uncle had explained to him that he had no business wearing skirts or dresses or blouses despite how nice they looked. "Maybe I should buy a skirt after this?" He says thoughtfully with one last look in the mirror before turning around to head back to his locker.

Hotaru freezes in his tracks however. Mind going blank as he turns to find that he was no longer alone in the changing room he was in, Jennie standing right by the doorway. He's not sure how long it is before either of them speaks, but he'd measure it to be about three eternities. The demigod looks back down at himself, at the maid uniform he was wearing, and then back up at his boss. "I can explain...?" he says slowly, but still very unsure of how he would, "Please don't fire me," he squeaks in for good measure.

“In my defense,” he starts off, arms raised in front of him as he backed away. He wasn’t a fan of the idea of being hit, but he did think that if she gave him a black eye, he’d deserve it, “I am a terrible liar and I wasn’t expecting you to believe me,” he explains himself in haste though he knows that he’s just digging himself a deeper grave with his honesty. “Soo, look-” he pleaded hoping that he could fix the situation, “I didn’t want to hurt you- I don’t like hurting people- So I lied to spare your feelings-”

“And I’m so sorry you had to find out like this,” he continues on, voice dripping with a mixture of sincerity and guilt. “And you have every right to be angry with me, hate me, and curse my name for the rest of our lives...” he trailed off, finally halting his movements once they were a good distance away from each other. “But please don’t think that I don’t care about you- I do and I’m so so sorry that I lied to you...”

@mp-xiaolang As soon as he's a good distance away from Sakura and he's sure that no one's following after him, he takes off running for his apartment. The young man doesn't stop for anything or anyone, instead only shouting out careless greetings and goodbyes at any of the friends he comes across. Only offers them half-baked excuses while still sprinting away, his backpack clutched to his chest almost suspiciously. If anyone knew Hotaru well, they'd think he was up to no good, and in a way, he was. But at the same time, he wasn't.

Hotaru liked to believe that he was an upstanding citizen. He wasn't fond of lying, stealing, or cheating, and didn't actively go out of his way to cause trouble. However, there were times where his moral compass skewed itself for the greater good. And did the greater good involve pre-meditated dog napping an obviously neglected and suffering pup from a customer at Sakura? Well, today it did and Jennie could never find out about it.

As soon as he gets into his apartment, he slams the door shut behind him, makes sure it's locked, and leans back against it, gulping down as much air as he can manage. Once he's got his wits together, he makes a beeline for his bedroom and shuts the door behind him once more, getting to his knees and carefully setting his bag down. "I'm so so sorry about that..." he apologizes gently as he unzips his backpack to reveal a whimpering puppy. "No, no, don't be scared- I'm a friend!" He chirps as he fishes another dog treat out of his pocket and holds it out as an offering to the pup with a hopeful smile.

He watches carefully as the puppy sniffs at his hand tentatively and grins when it goes for the treat, happily yipping at him once it's gone. "You're such a good boy!" The demigod all but coos as he pets the pup gently, not wanting to startle it again. In the process, he grabs his phone out of his back pocket and carefully dials a number without looking away from the animal. As soon as he hears a greeting on the other end of the line, he speaks again. "Hey Xiao!" He greets brightly, as if he hadn't just committed a crime. "I need some advice... Legal advice to be exact."

“Probably a couple more times and then I’m sure it’ll sink in,” he says cheekily, eyes crinkling to hide the sadness in them. He tries to joke and prays that his words break the tension between them, but all they do is give him away. His voice strains to keep itself even and he can’t meet her gaze when he talks. He knows that he’s never been good at hiding how he feels, especially when he’s upset. Still, he wears a smile on his face even though it doesn’t reach his eyes. “Look...” he trails off looking up toward the ceiling.

“If I could control the way that I feel, life would be a million times easier,” he starts again, still not meeting her gaze. “But you know me-” he shakes his head, laughing despite how much his heart hurts. “I take after my mother... Falling for people that can’t return the favor,” he closes his eyes again willing himself not to tear up. “But I don’t care, I’ll get over it, Addy...” he pauses sucking in a deep breath and willing himself to open his eyes and look at her. “Before anything else, I am your friend and nothing will change that,” he says softly, sincerely.

“My feelings aren’t your responsibility, so don’t feel bad about it...” he pauses again offering a forced grin. “And I mean, look on the bright side,” he swallows heavily. “It just makes this little scheme of ours a lot more believable, don’t you think?”

He sits by one of the windows overlooking the koi pond, gingerly sipping at his tea. There’s a glimmer of a smile on his face and it doesn’t quite reach his eyes, but he’s a little too lost in thought to care. The homesickness had settled in hard this morning and he had yet to shake it off, but no matter. Visiting the tea garden always helped and he couldn’t help the small smile that lit up his face as he remembered how he came about finding it.

It had only been a week after his arrival before he was calling up his aunt and tearfully whining to her about how much he missed home and it wasn’t very long before he was sniffling over the video call, wiping away his tears with the sleeve of his sweater. To which the elderly woman smiled back at her nephew, shook her head at his antics, and reminded him of all the reasons why he'd left home in the first place. "Of course things are different, it's a different country," she had started off with a scoff. "And you just got there," she continued to scold him. "Have you even explored yet? Have you even talked to people?" The young man's sheepish glance away answered that.

The call ended with Hotaru feeling a little miffed if he was honest, and that was only because his aunt was right. While he appreciated her wisdom at the end of the day, he absolutely did not like being called out even if it was for his own good.  He was a little stubborn like that. And in his stubbornness, the young man decided to leave his apartment and explore, only for the sake of going back and telling his aunt that he had a terrible time.

But of course, things never seem to go Hotaru's way. On his little outing, he stumbles across a tea garden owned and operated by a fellow pantheon demigod. The grin on his aunt's face when he tells her about it and the potential friend he'd made along the way is more than enough for him to limit his calls home to every two weeks. But three months later, he frequents the garden more and more. Whether it be to admire the scenery with a nice cup of tea or chat with Ryo if he's available. It keeps the homesickness away when he really needs it. Kind of like today.
