Positive Coping Strategies
I have Bipolar Disorder. When I was diagnosed and began treatment with medication, I was also given this list of coping strategies. My doctor said the quality of my mental health going forward would depend on my own initiative in taking care of myself. The medication and professional treatment acted as an aid. This gave me the right perspective and the list bellow was full of ideas on how to get started. Itās not a to-do list so donāt let the length overwhelm. My challenge to myself was to pick a couple of these a day to intentionally do. Over time it became habit, and better habits changed my life.Ā Show yourself some loveĀ today!
Emotional:
Become aware of how you feel. Get in touch with your feelings and own them as your own.
Learn how to express your feelings assertively (open and honestly)
Become comfortable expressing your feelings as problems arise or occur
Talk. Discuss your problems with someone you trust such as a close friend or a family member, or talk them over with the people involved.
Learn to develop a forgiving attitude. Learn to forgive yourself, to forgive others, and to accept forgiveness from others.
Physical:
Eat nutritious well balanced meals. Watch your sugar, salt, fat and caffeine intake.
Get in the habit of eating three balanced meals a day. Donāt skip meals.
Give your body and mind sufficient rest by getting 6-8 hours of sleep each night.
Exercise regularly. This will help you work off steam and work out stress.
Mental:
Become aware of what you want.
Learn to value play. Do something fun at least once a week.
Develop the ability to stay calm so that you can think clearly and see things as they actually are (realistically).
Find a hobby that interests you and that you enjoy doing, that helps you relax & feel good about yourself.
Donāt let the behavior of other people control your life. Recognize your responsibility for the way you look at and respond to life.
When possible, solve problems as they occur. Donāt let unsolved problems hang around and add up.

Cause I'm cute and stuff. I have a stealing problem. This hat does. It belong to me. "M" for mayfield, also referred to as gayfield. Quite accurate.
Hi, I don't need to alter my body to feel my genders. Am I a freak? Little ugly but you can't see this banging haircut.
Editing, weird. Hair is looking good was the point of this photo. I could never model, man.
The mere fact that theyāre referred to commonly as āqueer womenās communitiesā when most lesbians that I know feel at least some measure of antipathy to the term āqueerā being forcefully applied to them, ought to indicate to anyone whoās thought about it for more than two seconds that perhaps lesbians arenāt the big powerferul mean dyke bullies in these groups that these people have imagined us to be.
Whoa
BPD symptoms to stop making fun of and recognise as what they really are:
Needing attention Outbursts of emotion (especially anger) Not getting out of bed Social withdrawal Self-destructive behaviours Being āclingyā Forgetting things Getting upset about everything Bad self-care Promiscuity āWeirdā or āunusualā triggers Needing validation
Needing attention - with out constant stimulation from our relationships, we forget we even mean anything to anyone. Outbursts of emotion (especially anger) - there are 5 intensity levels. at levels 4-5, we become the emotion. it sucks. (source: dialectical behavioral therapy)
Not getting out of bed - with bpd, depression is a reoccurring mood. Social withdrawal - we are champs at perfecting facades. donāt always have the energy for it though. Self-destructive behaviours - sometimes needed to escape those 4-5 intensity emotions.Ā Being āclingyā - fear of abandonment. love addicted. not knowing how else to care about people. Forgetting things - emotional impermanence. we lose perspective of things we did if its associated with something painful (aka all things, all things are painful).Ā Getting upset about everything - impossible to see the good in anything unless someone sucked the cognitive dissonance right out of our heads. in other words, splittingāitās a thing.Ā Bad self-care- see: depression is a revolving and reoccurring mood. Promiscuity Ā - see: needing attention because we donāt feel like ārealā people.Ā āWeirdā or āunusualā triggers - sorry if you hate the word ātriggerā, but thatās exactly what this is. emotional ptsd. how else would you explain,Ā āoh fuck, that song reminds me of when _____. welp. time to dissociate. haha iām not here anymore. haha, i donāt feel anything.ā??? Needing validation - we want attention to feel like people. we need validation to feel like good people.Ā
WISH I FIGURED THIS SHIT OUT A DECADE AGO.Ā
youāre welcome.
Forgetting things:Ā Iām kind of over people having a go at me for forgetting stuff - youāre not the only one getting frustrated at me for it.Ā
Outbursts of emotion:Ā Iām over being vilified for my anger outbursts - I know itās happening, Iām trying to stop it happening, but it keeps happening.Ā
Social Withdrawal:Ā I know my sociability ranges so please donāt think Iām rude for suddenly withdrawing and going on my phone, or leaving, or simply ceasing to talk.
Needing attention: I know Iām annoying but please just reassure me Iām here, that Iām real, and that Iām loved. Otherwise I might fade away.
Needing validation:Ā Please tell me I did a good thing. That I didnāt just do things for nothing, and it didnāt make you happy.
Mg

This is a motivating speech from 8-year-old Jordin Phipps who became the youngest person to be accepted into the university. She will receive a $10,000 scholarship at the University of North Texas when she does attend - 10 years from now.Ā
Congratulations to this marvelous Black girl who was awarded the Presidentās Award for Excellence in Leadership.

I cannot imagine someone actually like loving me??? wanting to be with me?? dating me?? unfathomable & also impossibleĀ
The woman I'm seeing thinks this. She's breathtaking and kind, caring to a degree which doesn't even exist, loving, perhaps to a fault. She deserves better than the hand she got dealt.
Finally something to make me laugh
