guys i have a thought.

anybody watched Band Of Brothers? i found Lt./Cpt. Richard Winters (the character portrayed in the series, not the actual person) to be like the exact same as Simon Riley.

mannerisms, tone. he's deadpan but still has a bit of humor. just a soldier all the way through. great leader. plsplsPLS you guys get what im saying.

the question gives simon whiplash. of fucking course he isn’t. military pays well, he’s got money. “fuckin ‘ell, lass. what’re you on about?”

“sorry, sir. you’ve… worn the same shirt for the last five days,” you manage sheepishly, shrinking away from his sharp gaze under the mask.

“and your first thought was that i was homeless?” he cocks an eyebrow, a furrow deepening between his eyebrows, not that you could see it. “and for the record, sergeant, it ain’t the same shirt. i changed.”

“…you did?” you ask, in mild disbelief.

“mh, course i did. i just have five pairs o’ the same shirt.”

“that sounds… boring,” you manage, trying not to be disrespectful, but it’s quite hard, as he deadpans you.

“it’s efficient.”

“…efficiently boring.”

and you still wonder why you’re still running laps of the base as the sun slips past the trees.

I’ve developed a newfound appreciation for TWDG season 3 after watching RDCWorld’s playthrough of the first episode. I know season 3 isn’t most people’s favorite, but I do get why it exists. Usually, the first criticism I see is that it sidelines Clementine for this new character Javi, but after rewatching the first episode, I don’t think that’s necessarily the case.

Javi, to me, is a Lee 2.0. And what I mean by that is he’s the player character during a period of Clem’s life where she wasn’t in a good headspace to be the main protagonist. When Lee Everett was the lead, Clem was a naive child who had to rely on the adults. When Javier Garcia was the lead, Clem was a closed off loner who let anger consume her at times. 

I’d imagine that playing as Clem during those periods of her life wouldn’t make for interesting gameplay. If you played as Clem during her Lee period, all your options would be that of a sheltered child. If you played as Clem during her Javier period, all your options would be to choose violence and to not trust. You can technically make that work, but there’s not as much flexibility with the gameplay.

Also, still going with the Javier-Lee parallel, it’s nice being that character who helps Clem grow as a person. Instead of being a father figure teaching survival skills, you’re now a cool uncle teaching social skills/helping Clem get out of her shell. While I do have my problems with the season, I do like the set-up and what Javier’s role was in terms of Clem’s character arc.

Your fingers dug into the armrests.

“They told me this was training.” You were chewing on the words, jaw tight and eyes narrowed. Deep down you’d known that this was coming, you’d declined ‘help’ after the initial incident but now there was no hiding the darkness that plagued your mind. Everyone had seen it.
