Animal activists have finally won the battle against SeaWorld.

No, they aren’t, and no, we haven’t. 

SeaWorld isn’t really ending the shows. They’re redesigning them; they’re going to move away from the flashy, theatrical shows and move towards a show/presentation supposedly more focused on education and teaching people about whales in their natural environment. It sounds like they’re simply eliminating the flashier tricks that don’t reflect natural orca behavior. Additionally, this only applies to the San Diego park, the other two parks are still doing the normal shows.

Our work won’t be done until breeding stops and the whales are retired and given a better life, whether that be in a sea pens or better tanks.

This move was inevitable in California. With legislation set to hit the State House in the near future, they'd have to revise their business model for this park. And just because they're changing at this one park doesn't mean it'll change elsewhere...or that they won't ship off orca to other parks. The battle rages on. Sea World may not be the worst in the world in terms of captive orca care, but it among the others needs to be stopped. The only way to stop it? Shut off the cash flow to the parks. Across the board, around the world.
