Here's a painting I did of my pal Christine Schmidt and Evan Gross's home--their daughter's room, specifically. A lot of handmade creative goodness is on display, like that stick work mobile--only fitting for the creative powerhouse of Yellow Owl Workshop.
Chris has a new book out, Yellow Owl's Little Prints. It's basically like the coolest kindergarten art class ever in book form. Get it! (and you can get our book as well).
It's kind of meta to paint pictures of pictures, but that's what all the art in How to Hang a Picture is about. Like for instance the Margaret Kilgallen hanging in the home of Jordan Provost and Jason Wong.
Jordan and Jason are the creative duo behind the gift company enormouschampion, and Jason is also one of the Friends of Type, both inspiring enterprises worth checking out. They have a real cute little kid as well.
One of the main reasons I wanted to paint Beth Salvini's living room for inclusion in How to Hang a Picture, beyond that big red retro chair, is that it meant I got to paint her Twin Peaks poster (far right, below). Always fun to paint Coop and Truman.
With her sister Amy, Beth is the co-owner of Greenwich Letterpress, one of the most stylish, well-curated, and inspiring stationery shops in New York City. Considering the season, you should check their shop out...
Lisa Congdon was the first person I thought of when I began writing the section in our book about displaying collections and other non traditional art objects--after all, Lisa, a multi-talented artist, is the author of, among other books, A Collection a Day.
Lisa's great advice on creating your own collections: start with odd numbers and some sort of unifying theme of some kind, either color or subject. "Cluster objects fairly close together," Lisa told us, "and use the entire depth of space."

In our chapter on how *not* to hang a picture (that is, shelving, stacking, or otherwise displaying art without putting a nail in your wall), we showcase the home of Youngna Park and Jacob Krupnick, creative powerhouses whose work you probably know from all sorts of places.
Lately, Youngna has been making very lovely ceramics, some of which you can buy over at More and Co. Get into it.
One of the watercolors in How to Hang a Picture that I'm most proud of is based on the home of John and Linda Meyers, AKA the design studio Wary Meyers.

Cat Grishaver, a Portland, Oregon based designer and owner of the letterpress outfit Tampopo Press recently posted a little preview of How to Hang a Picture on her site with lots of great photos. We also showcased her home in our book, as seen in the watercolor below (If I remember correctly, I believe that's a Jason Munn print on her wall…).
Anthology Magazine was a primary source of inspiration during the research and writing of How to Hang a Picture, so we were stoked when Anthology's Editor-in-Chief, Anh-Minh Le agreed to write a foreword for our book.
