This shouldn’t need explaining yet here we are. If you’re tracing photography for art, you should still have the decency to at least CREDIT the photograph you’re stealing from. It is comparable to tracing any other art medium and is bordering on stealing, especially if you’re selling it for profit. Photographs, screencaps, etc. are still considered intellectual property of someone else and should be acknowledged as such.
It seems that we have a case of in-fandom art theft by @theevoh12. Even though this is only a picture preview, and while they proportions are not exact, it’s plain to see they’ve blatantly taken from a fellow hphm artist for their own personal gain.
Take special note of the lines denoting fabric folds. The proportions are not identical, but the crease lines are identical in the stolen WIP as they are in the original picture. The hands of the characters in the WIP are also identical to the original. The skirt in the WIP is also a complete redraw of the final piece.
While this may not be a perfect 1:1 tracing like the other examples provided, there are still far too many similarities for this to be anything but stolen art. To call this anything but art theft is just being willfully ignorant and unable to admit a wrong.
@cawforbrandon You asked what my issue was, and I think this is proof enough. This person is not only stealing from a recognizable artist (MHA author), but is now stealing from within their own fandom. This is not sucking up fun, it is calling someone out for malpractice, and holding them accountable.

There is a huge diference between using a reference and tracing :/ its obvious that this person is tracing, both drawings are literally the same even the hands are. Also they traced an artist from this fandom i can show you in dms if you want.
There definitely is a difference between the two, and many do not seem to know the difference. If this person genuinely referenced the original sketches, there would be noticeable changes in their line economy, fabric folds, and overall shapes. It seems people just don't want to acknowledge that a talented artist is actually a cheat.

1) The original sketch was used as more than just a reference - it was directly traced. That is the point of the overlay - to compare the lines and how they well, line up. This is most apparent in the shape and folds of the shirt. The folds under the bust, the sleeve, the collar, and the hand shape are all identical in the stolen piece to the original sketch. If this sketch was only referenced, these marks would not be identical and the fabric of the shirt would fall differently.
2) What your saying has already happened. This sketch was redrawn and in the bottom right corner is the signature of the art thief. All markings of the original artist have been removed, and there was no mention to claim that the sketch was the original source.
3) That’s understandable! Learning from others is totally viable. That is why bases exist - so beginner artists have a starting point to grow off of. Bases are great for artists who are just starting out and learning to practice their skills and grow. The stolen sketch is not a base however. If something is not intended to be used as a base, one should not use it as a base. Simple as that.

Oh dear, it looks like there’s someone else tracing art in the Hogwarts Mystery fandom. @theevoh12 it appears has been stealing and tracing sketches from the author of My Hero Academia, Kohei Horikoshi, going so far as to add their own signature (top left) with no acknowledgement of the original artist.

Having just finished blocking a few more randos in the HPHM tag, for fuck's sake stop depicting the students in sexual situations. Every single one of them are minors. I'm talking straight up 18+ stuff when they're still students. Guess what? 17 is still a minor. It should go without saying yet here we are.

Of course Brothergrimm hasn’t said anything about being an art thief. If he were to acknowledge the clear proof provided, he would have to actually have the balls to admit he did something wrong. It shows me exactly who he is as a person. He’s not into art for the fun of drawing, he’s in it for the attention. Tracing art and screencaps, is a quick way to produce content, which he can gain that attention from.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t see response, or any of my other posts truthfully. He likely has this blog blocked, as anything that is shows him (or his friends - ren) remotely negative is an automatic block.
How dare we hold these people accountable for their actions, right? (that’s sarcasm btw).
I'll be honest... I used to be one of Ren supporters but now... idk what to believe, I think is a normal reaction to believe someone that has been nice to you and you had know for a while than a random blog. But now with all this proof.. I know you'll say neutrality is not an option but I decided to stay neutral for my own mental health, all this has messed up with my mind and I'm sure many others may feel the same.
You know what I have to say, but you don’t seem to understand why. Because that’s the important part, here. I’m not here to demonize people for being conflicted. No one wants to believe someone they care about is a predator. I think it’s important to realize that very few, if any, people are here because they enjoy doing this to Ren.
You guys might not want to believe this, but I have to reassure Jill that it wasn’t her fault and that this was inevitable because Ren doesn’t want to change and feels no remorse for the years he took away from her. I don’t gain pleasure from doing this and I wish Ren could or wanted to change, because then it wouldn’t be necessary to warn people about the kind of person he is.
You do know what to believe. All of you do. Right now, you’re riding the fence of what’s right and what’s wrong, and what’s right is a whole lot steeper and a whole lot more painful than the green pastures you’re used to. Your mental health isn’t an excuse to enable a criminal who harmed (and from the words of people who interacted with him in the server, is still actively harming) children.
Those are children. Their safety will always be more important than your comfort.
Something that always bothered me alot on this is how people are so creepy with the mcs and the hphm characters, like people who say stuff like " my mc is sexy." "Damn Barnaby is so hot" and other sexual stuff about the characters, do they realize all of those characters are CHILDREN? Hell some of them even sexualize them to the point of drawing literal porn and them in very sexual outfits, and the fact that these people who do it are all adults it scares me.
I would say sorry for taking so long to answer to this, but I’m not. There’s only so much thinking I can do on these Ren-adjacent topics before I step back and check my mental health.
That aside, you’re right in that there’s this weird sexualization of both mc’s and mc’s friends within some parts of the fandom. It’s not one I see very often, as I don’t interact with everyone in this fandom, but I know it’s there. We all know it’s there. It need to leave. Or be kept in drafts or priv if people insist on being disgusting. But I’m with you anon, it bothers me too.
I wonder if part of the over-sexualization is adult players projecting themselves on to their mc. Mc really is a blank canvas, much like Bella Swan from Twilight, so it’s easy for players to live vicariously through mc. Ethren was a vessel for Ren to live through, it’s possible others view their mc in the same light. That doesn’t excuse the sexualization though. Nor am I ever going to understand how why people insist on viewing them in such a light. There’s nothing sexy about these pixels in game! They permanently look 11!
I’m guessing the second half of this message about drawing cp is in reference to Kyril? If so I absolutely agree. I don’t care how nasty people want to be and sexualize their mc, just stop drawing and sharing it in a public space. Kyril deserved his callout, and like the others turn an hid like a coward.
It doesn’t matter though. At the end of the day, mc & friends are minors throughout HPHM. By 7th year they might be considered of age in the Wizarding World (when you can earn an apparition lisence at 17) but it’s still the age of a minor. Just because some teens are sexually active, does not mean it’s ok for adults to be overt about it in public fandom spaces. We don’t need people sexualizing minors. We don’t need people like Brothergrimm talking about how his mc knocks up Merula in 7th year. Adults should not be using teens to explore sex and sexuality.
I’ll finish off by saying, if you see something, call it out. If you don’t want to do it personally, my inbox is always open.

That is a good point and thank you for pointing it out to me. Not everyone featured on that blog is a supporter, and it isn’t fair for me to cast blame where there is none.
Many featured on that blog are supporters but not all, so I will say to anyone who might use it as a sort of block list, be careful and conscious who you might follow and who you might block. Anything older than 6 months is hit or miss likely.

I can confirm the blocking part. When Ren's exposed happend, along with someone's else exposed, i supported the accounts who were exposing and telling the truth(but i never said anything on my blog, i just liked a few of their posts) and guess what? I was blocked by some people of this fandom and one of them is a very big and talented artist, which kinda makes me sad seeing that someone so talented who seemed to kind supports people like Ren.
I’m sorry you were blocked anon, it’s always a weird feeling realizing someone has you blocked. Unfortunately Ren and his pack have something of a hive mine going: you either support him, or you’re out. There is no room for discussion or shades of grey. If you show any sort of support against him (even something like liking a post condemning him) Ren and his enablers will assume you’re against him and you’re done to them.
It might suck but all I can suggest is blocking this person in turn. The unfortunate fact is if this person supports Ren now, they likely always will. Sometimes you just have to cut off all contact with even the enablers. There’s no shame in blocking people who continue to support Ren and try to cover up his shitty past, no matter how good an artist this person may be.

Oh yes, Kyril absolutely traces and uses bases.
Now using bases isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Some bases even don’t require credit to use them. It’s still good etiquette to credit a base that you’re using though, since it isn’t your original work. Kyril likes to play sly with them. He only admits to using a base or tracing a screencap when confronted about it, and even then it’s a half assed response.
Using bases with credit is a-ok. Using bases and not crediting and claiming everything as 100% yours isn’t. There’s nothing wrong with a little base help for artists, it’s only shitty when you try to pretend you don’t use a base but you do.
