Black Panther deserves to win the Oscar for best costume design based solely on the fact that it’s the only movie whose costumes haven’t been done and done and redone again. like i understand we all love the big poofy colorful fancy dresses of the 18th century but my god they’ve been done. Black Panther went above and beyond to incorporate various African tribes. Ms. Ruth E. Carter took her time envisioning designs based on a world untoucjed by colonizers, and the results are

and aid in the movie’s storytelling in a way the costume design of the other nominated movies simply does not.

Not to be dramatic but femininity is literally a trap.

A few months ago I decided to stop shaving, just to try it out. All my previous attempts had failed because it’s just so physically uncomfortable. I actually had no idea what my post-pubescent body naturally looked like. I was 12 the first time I shaved my armpits. I noticed a few hairs after looking in the mirror while shaving my legs (something I for some reason already felt the need to do at 12), became extremely ashamed that I hadn’t noticed them earlier and shaved them off. And then I just kept doing that for years without ever stopping. I got so used to associating not shaving (for even a few days) with the constant discomfort of being poked with sharp stubble that I forgot that hair that just naturally grows doesn’t hurt.

And it’s not just that shaving makes not shaving uncomfortable. Most women’s clothes essentially mandate hairlessness by design. Tights and leggings pull on your leg hair when you put them on. Bikini bottoms require a wax so hair that men can just have doesn’t show. 

Heels can literally shorten your muscles and make it incredibly painful (if not impossible) to walk in normal shoes. 

Makeup damages your skin, requiring you to buy skincare products to compensate. It skews your perception of what your face should look like, turning your natural face into a list of flaws to be fixed.

Defaulting to shaving every time you take a shower and putting on makeup every morning means you only don’t do those things when you haven’t showered or were running late. It means hairy women are unhygienic and women who don’t wear makeup are lazy and bad at time management.

Girls learn to perform femininity when they’re literal children and too young to think critically about it, and for most women that upholds itself their entire lives. You don’t just stop doing something when you haven’t known anything else since childhood. You can’t just drop one thing from this entire system of everything that’s expected of women, something that so carefully fits together. 

So many women are essentially just trapped in doing something they started without ever thinking about it and there’s no way to not be dramatic about that.

The purple stripe on the bi flag is meant to represent attraction to nb genders and the bisexual manifesto published in Anything That Moves includes the lines “Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or duogamous in nature … In fact, don’t assume that there are only two genders.” That was published in 1990. It’s older than a lot of people here, including me, and older than terms like “pansexual” and “polysexual” by at least a decade. Bi history is important.

i’m always so happy about seeing mlm feeling comfortable about publicly crushing on tom holland, bc he and the rest of the mcu spidey cast/crew have made sure they feel safe in the fanbase. like seeing tom at photo ops doing cute romantic poses with guys the same way he would with the girls, that’s so refreshing. seeing guys show up to the spidey set wearing “mentally dating tom holland” shirts and the cast takes pics of his shirt and give him thumbs up for it?? good ass shit there. it might not seem like a big deal to everyone, but it really is.
