at this point I'm kind of wondering what it says about me that a significant number of the Youtube creators whose content I chose to follow have turned out to trans their gender well after I got interested in them. I don't have a problem with it obviously, there's just a lot more of them than the 1-3% estimated to be trans in the general population and that seems like relevant data on... something, but fuck me if I know what

I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished

So like. Does anyone possess any context whatsoever for Tom Scott stopping him newsletter randomly or what? The Tom Scott who always publicly announces all community changes on YouTube and pinned comment and everywhere? The newsletter that continued through the year-long hiatus and god knows what else? I'm extremely confused, like, he just writes it as though it is completely expected and business as ordinary that the newsletter is ending. It's not??? There was no context at all???? Every fiber of my intuition is certain I just missed some announcement or explanation or something, it's so unlike him, I just... idk.

I suppose this might be a case of "there's a private reason and it's better to keep things quiet and it's Very Unwise to ponder further", but like. at least a word? that the reason is secret but it's gonna be okay? please?
