i'll also put a summary at the end if you don't wanna hear me ramble
i have no life, so this is going to be... ahem... lengthy. also I tend to overexplain things without explaining it at all, so... *cries*
1. study different writing styles!!!
writing styles are made up of a few key elements: sentence structure, dialogue, figurative language—similes, metaphors, description, etc.—, diction/word choice... you get the point!
these are vital elements to the writing style you want to achieve, and you have to develop them over practice! however you can't JUST practice! you need to expose yourself through different methods: observation and research are my favorites!
1A. observation and media consumption
read other people's writing! PLEASE! PLEASE! you can only write how much you consume! read authors that you look up to and copy their style!
i'm not telling you to analyze the writing—though, I won't stop you! it's how I developed my style!—, but figure out why you like their writing. is it their immersive dialogue? their lengthy sentences interrupted by short ones? their realistic characters and descriptions? the way they incorporate figurative language that makes you pause reading and think? the developed plot and unique storylines? great! you found an aspect you'd like to recreate yourself! even if you don't like the author, you can still learn a lot from the works around you.
mix and match different authors' styles together by taking different aspects of each and putting them in your own! take those varied sentence structures from one author, the description from the other, and add your own spin on it! you learn by observation! it's like copying the masters when painting :D
1B. research
if you hate researching, then this is... probably not for you—
but researching different aspects of writing styles really helped me! I researched different types of sentences, how to use semicolons and em dashes, and searched up different ways to improve my description through figurative language. it's why I write how I write today! I implement em dashes and semicolons constantly when I write now because I researched how to use them properly!
you can also do this while writing! search up how to describe skin to give personality! search up how to use the hyphen, en dash, and em dash properly! USE YOUR RESOURCES!
2. THESAURUS and DICTIONARY
it helps you improve your word choice instead of being stuck and repeating the same word over and over and over again!
using a dictionary/thesaurus helps you a) find better words to fix the mood/tone of your story b) improve your story's quality and c) be comfortable using more nuanced words in context!
you can use this thesaurus and dictionary (they're pretty ad-heavy), but i've heard wordhippo is a good one!
3. DON'T OVERDO ONE OVER THE OTHER
i'm guilty of this, but sometimes I overdo dialogue and don't let the narrator narrate! no matter what POV your story is in, you need to figure out the balance between the dialogue and description to give the context to the reader.
example:
"This is so cool!" he shouted.
"Yeah, it's great," she replied. "Though, the bright lights are... too bright."
"I think the candy store is pretty cool! We should check it out!"
revision:
"This is so cool!" he shouted.
"Yeah, it's great," she replied, her eyes squinting when her gaze spotted the lights hanging over the buildings. "Really bright, though."
"Oh oh oh! Look!" he exclaimed, his finger pointing to the large building with a lollipop logo smacked in the center. "We have to go!"
notice how the first one was dialogue heavy and the other was more balanced with body language and descriptions? it also showed a bit more personality! dialogue and description are tools to improve your writing style, but you need to make sure it's balanced appropriately! don't forget to consider your characters and their behaviors!
4. PRACTICE OR I'LL FIND YOU
these only work if you practice! practice!!! I swear it might not seem like it's working, but you HAVE to write!
i get it, totally, writing sometimes feels more like a chore than a hobby, but that's totally okay! sometimes, just a small drabble works, or you can continue a piece of work over long periods of time!
for example: I have a piece of work that's a bit over 10k now. it started—barely 2k words—a few years ago (so it's not that impressive), but whenever I found myself with time or just couldn't write, I kept adding to it. it wasn't anything serious—it still isn't, and it always helps me get typing!
summary time!
study different writing styles through media consumption (other writers, shows for plot), and research things to implement in your own (sentence structures, metaphors, descriptions, etc.)
use a thesaurus and dictionary to help find better words that fit the scene you're writing. it also helps your writing evolve instead of relying on basic vocabulary
learn to balance out dialogue and description! don't go too heavy with dialogue and don't over describe everything!
practice! you don't have to write stuff that is always dedicated to your big projects. you can also have small works on the side or a pick-me-up work!

"she furrowed her eyebrows"

are not the only types of things people do when they react!
people do so much more than that! using the examples? they totally work! but you need to give it variety instead of relying on them too much! (i'm guilty too, we can do this together!)
this one gives a LOT and is super good but I also really like this one from schoolofplot because that website in general just gives so many tips. schoolofplot in general is really helpful to me because they give SO many resources for free!
Wow your "art" is UGLY! Just like all you niggers. Evil forces cannot create original, new life, but can only twist, distort, or destroy what has already been created by good forces. And this describe you perfectly, can't create anything of actual value, that's why you only blackened actually good characters. Niggers always were and would be ugly thieves, even in art.
