My second contribution to the @tolkienrsb Reverse Summer Bang! Beorn, who was a lot of fun to draw. :D
My first contribution to the @tolkienrsb Reverse Summer Bang! :D The Blue Wizards, traveling the East.
My 100th Silmarillion character biography! Thanks for noticing that this was number 100, @dawnfelagund. It’s been a pleasure writing these, hope I will have the chance to do many more.
Oshun’s bios -
This month’s bio is of Tar-Vanimeldë – the third and last of the Ruling Queens of Númenor. The mention of her in Unfinished Tales contains hints of nefarious machinations behind the throne. Read it and try to unravel her untold story.
I do not have enough praise for all the work @heartofoshun puts into these bios, which are my lifeline whenever I need to look anything up! So well researched and thought out, and always with lots of references so it is easy to pick up and find the sources. Thank you!!!!!!
I am so impressed with your beautiful tolkien illustrations!!! Keep up the good work!
Thank you. What a lovely message to receive! ❤️
Haleth holding her twin brother Haldar:
“But at last Haldad was slain in a sortie against the Orcs; and Haldar, who rushed out to save his father’s body from their butchery, was hewn down beside him.” The Silmarillion
This is an entry for both @legendariumladiesapril and for this month’s challenge on @silmarillionwritersguild: Sirens and Songstresses, where I got the prompt: “Skyfall” by Adele. This piece is inspired by the first verse:
“This is the end Hold your breath and count to ten Feel the earth move and then Hear my heart burst again“
Finduilas Faelivrin for @legendariumladiesapril . Thank you to Hhimring for the inspiration!!
Finduilas meta (extract)
This is an extract from a stalled WIP, a bio of Finduilas of Nargothrond. I decided to post it for @legendariumladiesapril
I hope to finish the bio eventually and submit it to SWG, but it doesn’t look as if it’s about to happen soon. The extract compares later takes on Finduilas in the Legendarium with the original concept in the Book of Lost Tales.
Oh I love these extra facts!! I have been pondering doing a Finduilas painting for the LLA too, but I have had a hard time finding some angle that wasn’t about Turin, lolol. I think I will delve into these origins of her!
Third entry for the @legendariumladiesapril
A good friend suggested Amarië, and I immediately thought of the fantastic Republic of Tirion series by @dawnfelagund (can be found here: http://www.silmarillionwritersguild.org/archive/home/viewseries.php?seriesid=151) which contains an Amarië that I could not resist! She writes beat poetry and gives dramatic readings, wearing all black. This drawing is an illustration of the following paragraph (from the story Museum for the Forgotten)
“Amarië now refused patronage or compensation for her work and cared not whether people liked it and expected to not be understood. Amarië now was consumed with The Truth. "I don't think anyone will get it, except maybe Arafinwë and a few others who have read deep into the theory but that hardly matters, Findaráto; it is the truth and so I must speak it. It's going to sound so ugly! I know it!" she told me as she rolled black silken tights onto her slender pale legs. "People will hate it, but it's true, so it must be said. People will evolve. They didn't understand your father's ideas at first either and look at all he has done. The truth is ugly sometimes, it is!"
Queen Beruthiel, the original Tolkien cat lady, for @legendariumladiesapril I have so many ideas for how she got to be called the angry queen, and why there were so many strange tales about her, and I hope I will get to make a story about that some day, but for now I took this opportunity to do this painting of her and her cats. (Which I do not believe she tortured, that is not an effective way of getting cats to behave at all).
I’m so excited for the @legendariumladiesapril challenge running this month, that I made sure I had something I could post on this first day. I’ve started a list of ladies I would like to paint, and now I only hope I can keep some momentum going.
For the first day, I have chosen Melian:
“Melian was the name of a Maia who served both Vána and Estë; she dwelt long in Lórien, tending the trees that flower in the gardens of Irmo, ere she came to Middle-earth. Nightingales sang about her wherever she went.” The Silmarillion.
The painting style is new for me and heavily inspired by the incomparable Carne Griffiths. Check out his website and prepare to be stunned: https://www.carnegriffiths.com/
A watercolor study - first in a portrait series. I'm hoping to keep up with this!
Caranthir, Amrod and Amras in a quiet moment. “... but Caranthir fled and joined the remnant of his people to the scattered folk of the hunters, Amrod and Amras, and they retreated and passed Ramdal in the south.” From Of the ruin of Beleriand, the Silmarillion.
A quick Caranthir to loosen up a little! This was a fun technique and did not go at all as I had planned which was exactly to plan
