I do not like Hsu x Curtis at all, and while I'm not going to say DNI if you do ship it, I'll just ask to not bring it up on my page thank you 🙂‍↕️

I'm a big NCR fan, and an even bigger fan of Hsu x Moore (see #hsumoore). I'm very fond of both of those characters, and I'm trying to find more hsumoore fans. Please, feed me.

I tend to love most NCR NPCs though, including the unnamed troops that wander about. All NPCs at McCarran are quite special to me. (see #mccarran critters)

I should also probably mention I'm newish to tumblr. So I haven't a clue what I'm doing. Forgive me if I'm a little awkward at times.

As for me, my name is Tadgh (I'm Irish). I like writing, drawing, and thinking about things too hard. I've been hyperfixated on Fallout since 2018 and it's pretty much all I think about, especially nowadays. My favourite game in the series is obviously Fallout New Vegas.

I think a lot of people tend to skip over the fact that by the time we meet Hsu, he has already been suspecting Curtis for some time

Curtis even says that Hsu "looks at him differently", which is enough to make Curtis feel unsecure in his position. I think Hsu is a smart enough man to think "if X doesn't produce results as he previously has, then he may be Y". It was only a matter of time before Hsu looked further into Curtis and found a loose end.

And when you do inform Hsu, he isn't surprised at all, which makes me think that Curtis was right – he did suspect him of being a spy. The initial 'shock' is probably devastation; he had a spy try to rat himself out, as well as crushed hope. Hsu wouldn't have wanted Curtis to be a spy.

It looks terrible for Hsu as a colonel, it's a bad reputation. But it's also a massive breach of trust. In a way you could say no matter what happens to Curtis, he does kinda win. We see above that Hsu is now suspicious of *everyone* at McCarran. He's not able to trust his own troops anymore. That's a little upsetting

I thought of this scene from American Psycho where Kimball is interrogating(?) Bateman over a murder. Iirc the directions given to Willem Dafoe changed every cut or so, where:

1. He knows Bateman killed Paul Allen

2. He doesn't think Bateman killed Allen

3. He isn't sure if Bateman killed Allen

Each of these cuts are spliced together, where Kimball's constant fluctuating demeanor towards Bateman confuses him, and makes him paranoid and nervous.

I bring this up because I think that's how Hsu and Curtis' relationship is. They can't trust one another but don't quite want to let the other know that, in fear of them catching onto their trail. I think this would evolve very quickly into resentment between the pair, as distrust does. Those two fuckers do NOT like each other anymore. The divas are fighting.

I think Captain Curtis and Lieutenant Boyd would probably be pretty good 'friends', I can see them having some sort of older sister & younger brother relationship. Yes Curtis is a higher rank than Boyd, but I get the impression that Boyd is older and overall has her shit together compared to Curtis.

They fight a lot, maybe it's because they're too similar, but they have to stick together because all the other brass are snobs who exclude them, because they're not senior-officers.

Boyd loves to complain about everything and everyone, including her own husband, and Curtis is more than happy to listen – given gossiping is quite handy to a frumentarius.

In return, Boyd helps him out when he's clueless about something the typical Californian citizen should know – but she just assumes he was overly sheltered growing up, or just stupid. She's definitely not above demeaning a Captain if it means putting him in his place. (In fact I think she'd insult Major Dhatri or even Colonel Hsu to their faces if she thinks they deserve it – now that is something Curtis respects)

Being a legionary, of course Curtis is going to have misogynistic views. He's going to try hide them of course because that puts his mission on the line, but I do think being in the NCR would challenge those views. Curtis would have a lot of respect for Boyd, and maybe even views her as his equal. That makes him doubt his beliefs just a little, but at the end of the day, the NCR are all profligates to him, and it's not like Boyd is just going to 'fix' him and undo all the beliefs he has grown up with.

I find it funny that Ranger Anders calls Hsu old. It reminds me of how Irish people will endearingly refer to their fathers as "the auld fella".

It's easy to see Hsu as the "overbearing father" of the NCR, and Anders is bothered by the fact Hsu is concerned for his safety rather than believing in him. Dunno, just thought this was neat

idk how to say this but, your obsession with all things ncr feeds me so much. like every time your post comes onto my feed i can't stop but be fascinated and care even though i'm kinda a legion dickrider. your love for hsu is the type of shit i feel for ulysses. new vegas brain rot is so horrific 😔

Hehe I'm actually so happy to hear that. The NCR is absolutely an overglazed faction but I also feel like nobody actually *cares* about any NCR character (excluding Boone). Which is why I stepped in of course 🙂‍↕️

I like taking characters people wouldn't usually think much about and expanding on them, Hsu and Moore are probably the biggest examples of this, just take a quick look through my blog. I don't like straying far from canon, but those characters are such blank slates that I can fill gaps with pretty much anything I want.

Oh, we get zero background on Hsu, his family, and his life before we encounter him in FNV? Well, that means I can do anything I want as long as we get to the same endpoint. I find it very fun to expand on the details that just aren't relevant at all. Again, a quick look through my hsumoore think-pieces show I like to over think things :P

I want people to care! It's been nearly 16 years since FNV came out and there's very little content about Hsu or Moore, if no one is going to do them justice then I will, I think they're neat.

It's nice to have a little blorbo that you're the number one fan of. If you want to put some content out there of Ulysses, then go ahead, give that character justice! You can make people care 🥹 (it's also just really fun to find other fanatics)
