Rei’s facial features soften at the question. To stay with him until he fell asleep. For most people, Rei would decline. He’d say that he was ‘too busy’, and head back to his lab so he could resume his research.

But this. This was different. Rei wasn’t sure how he could put this feeling. It felt desperate ; clingy, almost. This was new. He could look into this later

Those golden hues of his fixate on the serpent yōkai’s face in this moment. “But of course, my dear, Yakumo.” He responded in a soft, hushed tone. Rei could feel his body slide next to the other man’s, a gloved hand reaching up to caress the man’s cheek.

Yakumo's eyes widened at the sudden response, his lips parted as he let out softer breaths. Oh. Rei... liked him. But... was it the same liking they shared for Mister Eiden? Somewhere, in his heart, he wished it to be true.

"Y — You're so... I like you, too, Mister Rei... You're so kind to me.." There was a bit of hesitation, and a deep breath. "I — I don't know if I deserve it at all, but... I like it.."

He felt ashamed admitting to such a simple, common feeling. Of course he would like it. Wouldn't anyone enjoy kindness? Still, his cheeks burned at the admission.

Yakumo's hands twist around the handle nervously, his gaze averted from Edmond's. He appears... nervous. No — shy would be the proper term to use.

Yakumo hesitates at first, mouth opening to splutter something along the lines of 'Are you sure? I don't want to intrude, or take up your time, or —' ; But he firmly stops himself, taking a deep breath. Edmond wouldn't invite him to stay if he didn't truly want him to.

Yakumo smiles softly, moving to take a seat next to Edmond. He holds the basket out, a light blue cloth covering the pastries hidden inside.

The Vice-Captain’s heartbeats begin to increase at the acceptance of his invitation. He often appreciated Yakumo’s company — It was comforting. Peaceful. Gravitating. And here they were once more! Under the night sky, the basket of pastries now being transferred into Edmond’s hands.

I hope that making these wasn’t much of a hassle for you. Or a mess, either.

He says as he lifts up the blue cloth up to peek inside the basket. His gaze was fixated on the various brownies and muffins that were neatly packed inside the basket. Danishes and tarts, too. All of them looked delicious.

Yakumo feels his own heart rate accelerate as their gloved hands brush upon transfer. He averts his gaze quickly, cheeks burning a bright red.

His cheeks only burn brighter at the praise, his head ducking until his hair covered his face.

Ah.. Do you really think so? A.. A bakery..

The idea was... pleasant. Nervewracking, of course. But pleasant.

Yakumo smiled a bit, reaching for a chocolate chip muffin. He much preferred watching others enjoy his sweets, over tasting them himself. Edmond was right, though — as he often was. It was only fair for Yakumo to enjoy one as well.

He bit into it with a gentle sigh, the chocolate chips melting into his tongue. It held just the right amount of sweetness, and he found himself closing his eyes to truly enjoy the flavors on his tongue.

Just as Yakumo took a bite of his muffin, Edmond had followed suit. There was a small ‘nom’ coming from the vice-captain’s lips as he bit into the soft muffin. So soft, so warm. The right amount of flavour, too. The corners of his mouth tipped upwards as he savoured the baked sweet.

Ah, as delicious as always. Your recipes never fail to amaze me.

As he complimented the baker, his icy blue hues travelled to the other man — where he saw that he wasn’t looking at him. A confused knit of his brows took place on his forehead.

Yakumo, did I say too much? You’re not under the weather, are you?
