“Whoa, that plant is awesome!” Huey said as he watched the young woman tend to it. “What kind is that?” part of him wished he had at least one field pamphlet on him so he could try and identify himself, but his pockets were already full with his wallet, keys, phone, and those cool rocks he found in the park.
“Baby powder! I’m not kidding you it’s the cure to all sandy things. You are also completely in luck because I have two bottles. To share!” She let out before laughing. “And two straws, would you look at that - it’s practically fate we go and get a drink to share to.” || @hueytheduckup
Huey laughed a bit. “I’ll keep that in mind,” he said, and then she pulled out straws and before he could ask what that had to do with baby powered, she answered his question (which was that it has nothing to do with it at all.) “Oh. Um, yeah, sure, I’m down for that,” he said. “What’re you in the mood for?”
Arista’s life pretty much revolved around playing the drums. Even when she wasn’t playing on her full set she often found herself, like she did now, outside banging her sticks on an old, empty painter’s bucket. She was just riffing an improvised upbeat tune when she noticed someone nearby and stopped. She looked up with a smile, asking, “Got any requests?”
Huey always thought it was cool when people would drum on basically whatever they had. Like this lady who was killing it on a bucket. Man, he wished he could do that. But then she looked up. “Hm, ummmm... I dunno, I didn’t know you could make drum requests. Oh, what about the Hawaii 5-0 intro song. That one’s got some good drums.”
Normally when Nolan would smoke it was usually in the privacy of his own home, much to his brother’s distaste. He usually smoked alone but when he smoked with friends it was a lot more fun. It was better because they could laugh and goof around and playfully judge each other for how much Taco Bell they had consumed. This time Nolan was out in the woods with a boy a few years younger than him. Huey was cool and Nolan had met him while he was still in college. They weren’t close friends or anything but Nolan enjoyed his company. “You sure no park ranger is going to come out here and catch us?” he asked. “Not that I’m scared but I would much rather not deal with that.”
Huey had started smoking when he and one of his fellow scouts were scoping out good camping spots. He found it helped him relax and took away the edge of some of his more nervous attributes. He mostly does it out in the woods because he doesn’t need uncle Donald smelling that. Part of him wonders if Donald would even accuse him first if the whole house just randomly started smelling like weed. But, now that they were ‘adults’ his scout buddy that he used to smoke with had a job that did regular drug tests, so Huey was either left to his own devices or to find someone else to hang out with. And Nolan was pretty nice. He met him in one of his classes a little while back. And it wasn’t like he would say they were the best of friends, but he was good people. Huey shrugged. “Probably not. This isn’t really a hot zone for people causing trouble. Now, if we were a little closer to a path or over by the lake, then definitely we’d have to worry. But we should be good here.” Some of this he’d figured out by seeing where the park rangers normally went, others he figured out by getting caught. But this little patch a bit of a way off the path was usually good.
“The first rule of the library? Don’t shove books back haphazard, thank you very much.” Magdalene stands by the library cart, in the process of checking books back into the stacks and holding one of those old fashioned books for bookkeeping and cataloguing. Her voice isn’t angry, or even upset. Rather, she sounds good-humoured about it. Magda’s used to it by now. Or rather, Mona is. Even though she’s got the name printed on a small name tag, it still might take a time or two for her to answer to it. She holds out her hand, “I’ll take it if you’re done with it. Name of the book, please?”
Huey had been distracted, reading another book that he held in his arm as he put another one back a little less careful than he intended. He hears her voice and looks up. “Oh, right. Sorry, Ms. Gaertner,” he says, picking up the book, brushing off the cover of imaginary dust, then handing it to her. “Um, it’s something about physics. Trying to cram for a test.” Usually, he was more prepared with his note-taking, but this had been incredibly last minute in a class that was harder than he anticipated. The professor talked too fast and never repeated himself and Huey wasn’t a fan of that. “You wouldn’t happen to know the best way to study for an impossibly hard physics test, would you?”
Barrel had stopped on the sidewalk to look at a sign in a store window. It was colorful, so that’s why he was bothering at all, but there was a word that was hanging him up. “Okay….I know what liquid is but what the fuck does that mean? No way it’s just a drink sale.”
Huey stopped as he walked passed the young man and the store, not really paying any attention at first, but then he speaks and he has to stop. “It... It’s not a drink sale,” he said, trying so hard to figure out if the guy was joking or not. It definitely seemed like he wasn’t. “It’s like... It means like, their prices and their assets. They’re liquidating them; selling them.” Though there’s a part of him that feels like he should’ve just messed with him instead. “They might have drinks, though. You could always go check.”
Huey loves being a triplet. He loves having siblings and would do absolutely anything for them.
He doesn’t care that it’s barely any time, Huey takes his role as big brother very seriously. He looks after Dewey and Louie and will no matter what. If there’s someone messing with them, he’s going to talk to them about it.
He’s kind of a disaster, but in the best way. He either thinks things through too much or not enough. He isn’t reckless, but he’s not always as cautious as he should be.
He’s got a bit of his uncle’s temper, but he controls it pretty well. He only ever gets angry when he’s too frustrated.
Huey has OCD, and he’s handling it better than he thought he would be as he gets closer to being a full adult but there are still times when things just get to be too much. He talks to a therapist and has some good strategies to deal. It got really bad after his mom died.
Huey is bisexual, but a little more on the down-low. He knows his family wouldn’t care, but he gets nervous about coming out. He’s never really had more than a couple dates with anyone anyway, and those were early on in high school, so it’s not like he’s really all that active in any sort of way with any sort of people.
He loves being a scout leader. He wants to teach as many kids as he can to be the best scouts they can. It’s like he’s got a bunch of little siblings to look after, and he really likes that. It keeps him on his best behavior because he’s got people looking up to him.
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t still get into trouble. He likes going to parties, occasionally drinking and getting a little high with friends, but he has his limits and tries not to go too far with anything. He doesn’t want to make Donald or his siblings worry--although, there are times Dewey and Louie are right there with him.

Huey is the eldest of three triplets. Huey and his siblings have always been mischievous trouble makers but Huey has always been the ring leader. When things would go too far though Huey was always the first to put an end to things. He may be a trouble maker but deep down he’s a pretty responsible guy. When Huey and his siblings were young their mother died from a work accident and their father ditched their mom the moment he found out she was pregnant. So, they were sent to live with their uncle, Donald. Donald was pretty young at the time the triplets were sent to live with him and it took a lot of adjusting for all of them. Their uncle had quite a bit of a temper and it was natural for the triplets to act out since their mother had just died. He tried to be patient with them but it was difficult at times. Huey was the one that put his foot down with his siblings. He told them that they needed to give their uncle a break. That he was mourning too. It was a mature thing to do considering how young they were. For a while the three of them tamed but it didn’t last long. They got a rush from raising their uncle’s blood pressure.
As the three grew older they began to develop different interests. Huey had joined the Junior Woodchucks at a young age and his love for being a scout only grew with age. He took it seriously and now that in college he took on the role as an assistant scout leader! He loves it too. It’s the first big responsibility he’s ever had he takes it seriously. He likes that there are kids that look up to him the way he used to look up to his scout leaders. He gained a sense of pride with it. Growing up Huey always had to do things different. If there was a way to tie a certain knot he found an easier way to do it. He shares this knowledge with the younger scouts but also encourages them to learn the proper way as well. Just because something is easy doesn’t mean it’s right!
Huey is in second year of college but still hasn’t declared a major quite yet. There are so many options it’s hard to choose. And for the first time in his life he doesn’t have to do the same thing as his siblings. They were always in the same class and were each other’s best friends. Now that he has his own freedom to choose what he wants to do he’s unsure what to do with it. He’s thought of maybe majoring in something outdoorsy because he’s always been a scout but he also thinks maybe trying something new would be fun too. For now he’s taking an assortment of classes until he can figure out what he is going to do.
🌹Opinions on Magic:
Huey believed in it when he was a kid but as he grew older he kind of forgot about it. Now he’s hearing whispers about it being real and isn’t sure what to believe.
