You think del toro abe and comic abe would be buddies if you sent them on a mission together

I think GDT Abe would definetly be buddies with comic Abe (though the bar is in hell for him— pun intended— when it comes to who he’s friends with, considering he doesn’t get out much). I think comic Abe would be a little grumpy were he to know GDT Abe was another version of him; he’d definetly keep going “do I talk like that? Am I really that weird looking?” Ect but I think he’d tolerate his doppelgänger.

The different versions of Hellboy, on the other hand… I think GDT Hellboy and 2019 Hellboy would end up beating the shit out of each other. Comic version might also gang up on GDT version if he found out about the who Liz-being-a-love-interest thing, but otherwise him and Crooked man version would probably be friends.

Okay so this has been sitting in my drafts for a while and actually. I think part of it is because she felt as if Ben was being brought in to replace Hellboy. Sure, Johann had also joined the Bureau since Hellboy had left, but it was clear he wasn’t the one in charge, that was Abe, and he was only in charge because Hellboy wasn’t there. Where Ben was brought in, though, he was immediately given the position of being the field team commander, and even though it was three years since Hellboy left, she was still hoping he’d return; perhaps the fact Ben was brought in to replace him sort of shattered that illusion for her, so to speak :(

Have you ever imagine how other versions of Abe, like GDT's or Animated, would look like if they evolved like Abe did in the comics?

Wait I haven’t….

I’ve always thought of the GDT version of Abe as being the fully evolved version of his species, because he’s much more visually reminiscent of the later comic design than the original. However, the animated version is definitely more similar to Abe’s pre-mutation (maybe not the best word but I can’t think of a better one) design, though i think he would look a little different than the post-mutation design were he to evolve… I definitely think he’d be bluer (obviously), but maybe also more angular and a little less bony (to fit with the art style of the animated films)? Definitely something cool to think about regardless, I like this.

About a year ago I saw this post on Reddit (sorry, yes, I use(d) Reddit), where Doug Jones has signed someone’s art of Abe Sapien with “Love + Fishes”. That stuck in my brain and somehow became “Hugs + Fishes”, because ever since I was little I’ve always signed cards with “Hugs and Kisses XOXOXO”. So, when it came time to make up a username when I (re)joined tumblr earlier this year, that’s what I ended up with.
